Sumika was once again interrupted mid work by the precocious young one dragging one of Sumiko's arms off a workbench and holding up a piece of paper. "No talkin, huh?" She asked rhetorically, a finger manipulating the damaged component to tap Yui on the arm and then point to the workbench as if suggesting she put it down. "Ehhh, I guess you could help. The workbench over there is Rollbert," she said, pointing to a rather charred pile of parts. "He's a little pangolin puppet. I'd put him back together normally, but all these parts need to be cleaned first, and he also carries around a bunch of chakra batteries that didn't, uh, really agree with having the strongest raiton technique in the known world just sorta... forced through them. There's a brush hanging on the side of the bench."
The older puppeteer took a moment to see how the girl reacted. It was rare that her reputation didn't color the reactions she got from other shinobi in the village. She knew she was regularly a primary example of how not to behave, she'd even had to sit through a stupid Chunin's "life lesson" for their students while she was trying to enjoy a meal; a farcical showing that involved a rather bullshitty account of Trouble's as yet unresolved run-in with Sadayo in the office, replete with claims that Sumika was attempting to do a coup, had committed treason, and was lucky they hadn't publicly executed her. There wasn't even a good moral to the story, it was just 'here's a second serving of BBQ'd boot, kiddos'. Beyond that none currently matched her broad skill with Ninjutsu, and was easily one of the most experienced with actual combat in the whole of the village, and yet as far as anyone else was concerned she tinkered here in her shop most hours of the day and lived in a somewhat ruddy ground floor apartment. To be fair, Sumika hadn't exactly shied away from the characterizations, but that just made this scenario all the more strange.

Yui was taken by surprised as the arm that she had once taken from the bench would curl upwards and tap her on the arm. Her head craned in every which way trying to figure out what had caused it until her auburn eyes had worked their down down to the object in her hand. Yet instead of a surprised yelp, the girl might as well had fireworks in her eyes with how fascinated she was with such a development. Did this puppet have strings on it as well despite being so misshapen? How neat! The genin reached forward and gently placed the arm back upon the workshop desk before working on another quick scribble of a response while the woman would motion towards a charred pile of puppet limbs, eyes and who knows what else? He was even a cute puppet too! Oh, Yui just wanted to squeeze this poor thing until her wooden innards would just sort of go kablooey everywhere!
"Sounds fun! I'll make them shine!"
She said and would immediately leap over to investigate the charred pile of puppet gore. While she fetched a brush and got to work, she gave the woman a smile and got to work. Of course, Yui wasn't stupid when it came to knowing who this woman was. Her face had been just about everywhere after what she had pulled at the Hokage's office so long ago. Sumika, here of all places. The woman who had been the talk of the town for her little stunt she pulled at the office that fateful day. A woman who had allegedly attempted a coup alongside some other charges, here in the same village as she had "attacked". It was by some miracle that she was still able to breathe, a most fortunate discovery for the girl. Which meant that she definitely knew some pretty powerful stuff to be taking on the freaking Hokage! Of course, she wasn't going to outright say that in front of her. Just smile and look cute. the two things she did best.
Eventually after a few minutes of quietly brushing the puppet parts up, she'd whistle and hold up another note for Sumika to read. "My name's Yui, by the way. Sorry for not talking, not able. What're you doing with all these parts in your workshop? Building another puppet?"

Sumika regarded the child with suspicion as she gladly accepted the work asked of her. What kid liked work this much and wasn't a narc? The puppeteer fished a bag of chips out of Cobalt's pack and began munching away as Yui worked diligently. She was curious what the girl hoped to gain from showing up and then immediately agreeing to do work for free in the workshop of a widely propagandized malcontent that got regular "visits" from the spookier side of the village's authoritarian perch. She wrapped up her bag at roughly the same time as Yui's note scribbling began again.
"Why the hell would I care if you can't talk?" She asked, clearly amused, as she stepped past the child and reassembled Rollbert with a flick of her wrist, her hand sweeping in front of the puppet and then catching and manipulating it without any noticeable strings or use of another technique. "Hey, not bad. Rollbert's still mostly intact. Slow though." Sumika added, wandering over to position herself on the opposite side of the workbenches from the rolling door. Her hands again began to manipulate the puppet pieces, until with a deep breath she released fuuton from her mouth, blasting a disturbingly thick cloud of soot out of the open workshop where it promptly engulfed a rather posh, and rather lost looking woman - something Sumika clearly found quite entertaining. "Sometimes it pays to work smart and not hard. And no, no new puppets today. Just putting mine back together. That gaggle of idiots that made a mess of the village did a number on them with their Limelight nonsense."
Not that Sumika would discuss her more... sensitive creations openly given her relationship with Konoha's Premier Puppeteer. A bit of manipulation and the large owl puppet Vogel summoned back a large portion of its jiton feathers as its wings stretched to envelop the most of the workshop. Its beak clicked a few times, and Sumika pulled over a step stool so she could fiddle with a mechanism around its massive eyes, but aside from not having enough material to reform its outer surface, the creature seemed totally functional. The other puppet had clearly fared the worst. It bore a striking resemblance to Sumika herself, though the platinum hair on its head was singed - on the half of its exterior that still remained. Missing was its cloak of jiton and an attempt to make it stand revealed that most of the left side of the puppet couldn't support its own weight. Work to do, but not of the variety that the woman found taxing.
"Let's see, well, Yui, I've gone by a bunch of names. Sumika of the Iron Sand, The Rat Queen of the Burrowed Grounds, The White Witch of Whirlpools, The First and Only Sumikage, Konoha's Gregarious Genin. Some call me Trouble, most just call me Sumika." The veracity of at least two of the titles was obviously highly questionable, but Sumika delivered them with the type of casual conviction that meant she was rarely challenged. And even if she was, most attempts at making a show out of proving their falsehood failed miserably when stacked up against her unique ability to zag when everyone else was zigging. The nigh unparalleled skill with ninjutsu never hurt either.

Well that was certainly easy. People had always asked that Yui had a sheet prepared in advance with the answer that this would be a nice change of pace. So when Sumika would go and not really care about it one way, it hit differently than it typically would have with Yui. More chances to talk about more interesting things than her! After some brushing and more than enough elbow grease, Rollbert would be up and running like normal although what fascinated and confused the girl was that she didn't appear to have any sort of threads attaching it to his master. She had wanted to ask but saw that Sumika was far too busy pestering the village people to really pay any mind to it. So she would look down and appreciate Rollbert by taking his head into her hands. "He's great. Did you make him yourself? I've been trying to make my first puppet but no idea how. I wanna make it big and scary, but I can barely use the ones in the shops they sell..." Yui gave a pouted to illustrated her point before she received an official statement from the Sumikage, an introduction. She listed title after title, whether earned or self appointed was up for speculation. Still, the genin looked pleased at the older girl's introduction that she offered a playful little bow.
"It's an honor to meet you, Sumikage. I'm Yui, one of the puppeteers of Konoha like you and the Hokage. I wanted to ask if you could teach me about how to be a good puppet user, so I could defend the village better than I did at the Falls."

The woman ran a finger over Yui's first note as she read it, nodding as she did so. "You bet. Took me a while to get the hang of this puppet thing too, though. Rollbert is meant for loading chakra batteries into my other puppets, he charges them while he moves." Her hand produced one of the batteries from under her cloak and slid it into an opening in the puppet's underside. She read the next letter with a surprisingly thoughtful expression. Not many people bothered asking Sumika, well, anything. Most simply assumed they knew enough to know she'd respond negatively before engaging with her, and thus did things that normally elicited that response; however, while the puppeteer liked to prank and goof off, she was not inherently curmudgeonly towards people who did not earn it, although she had come to regard especially more experienced shinobi as more consistent vectors of harassment. Basically, they all had sticks up their asses. She had, unfortunately, encountered few scenarios where letting her guard down around anyone except the newbies had a good outcome since this funhouse Konoha was constructed out of a misplaced sense of nostalgia.
"Hmm, a good puppet user. That's a tough one." She said as she hopped up on the bench next to Sumiko. "It sorta relies on the person, ya know? Like, mine are designed to help me move better, trick better, and do more jutsu. It'd be dumb for my puppets to be made for taijutsu 'cause I'm bad at that." She said, pointing to Vogel, Sumiko, and Rollbert in turn as she mentioned what her puppets did. "They all use my jutsu, and make my jutsu better. My jiton lets me move them without strings, but it also allows me to protect them. Each of them then gives me more ways to approach problems. And then I have ninjutsu that works with my puppets too." She wasn't sure that was very helpful, but hopefully it would inspire something in Yui. "Soooo, like, what do you want to do better? Heck, what do you already do better? What would make it easier for you to defend people? How many people do you want to defend? What seems like the best way to you? I guess that's the thing there, yeah? Find the questions, and keep asking until you've found a problem your puppets can solve. You already know one. What do you want to do? Defend the village. Cool, what does that mean ya know? Like, to you."

Yui was ecstatic of seeing Rollbert brought back to his former glory. Sumika gave pause to give her notes some attention while the child would be busy showering the non living toy with lots of attention. He wasn't was cool as any of those yokai but she was still quite enthralled with how adorable it looked. Once Sumika had began talking about how to become a great puppeteer, Yui gave the woman next to her puppet double her full undivided attention. Her thick head of black hair shuffled around while she would think about what the woman had tried to encourage her to think. She did say that there was a challenge that needed overcoming, although Yui wasn't too ken on what she meant by that. Rubbing her chin in thought, the aspiring genin would pace around.
"I'm good at iyrojutsu and making links, but everything else I rely on puppets for. I'm kind of bad with most jutsu so I figured this would be a good place to focus on. I just don't know a problem or anything. This is kinda hard."
She crossed her arms in a silent huff, her lips locked into a frustrated pout. Sumika could probably tell from the gears running in her head the troubles of a novice puppet user. The open field of ideas but the lack of refining what she wished for her puppet to do. Yui sat next to Sumika for a bit, dangling her legs off of the table as she would furiously scribble down her response. "I guess maybe puppets could heal and support people, but nobody's ever done it before. I thought they're only good for ninjutsu and things. How can you learn from something nobody's ever done before?"

Sumika gestured at the pangolin puppet as she read Yui's response. "Rollbert doesn't do anything offensive. He has my jiton armor, but aside from that he just rolls around and charges batteries." She had to admit though, that healing was a bit tougher challenge. Combat interactions were second nature to Sumika, because that's what she was good at. Still, there were potential vectors worth exploring. "Who said you needed to learn from something other than trying stuff? Sometimes you don't realize how cool something is until you try it. When I think of medics they normally need to not be messed with and can only focus on one person, yeah? That's not always possible, so what if your puppet allowed you to heal multiple people at once? Like maybe it could shoot some things out and then you could heal people through those connections? I think the important thing is to not do what people expect. You're not good at things that puppets would normally do? Whatever, do the other stuff, lean into it. Do weird shi- stuff. Weird stuff is cool." And thus Sumika hit at the part of puppets that she found most important, something she tried to embody. Always have something in your pocket that allowed you to completely shift the nature of a fight. Controlling one element of the battlefield became pointless if you could shift the focus from the area that the enemy was dominant in. "There's offensive medical techniques, right? What if you put those into your mechanisms too? Use them to mess with people. You could get really good at poisons, too. Puppets are perfect for that, shiiiiiiort of stuff. Sort of stuff."

Yui definitely was pretty excited to see that Sumika was a good sport in offering some advice and the like. Her inexperience with most things related to the shinobi way was as glaring as her silence in a group assignment. She sat next to the older girl while wrapping her pretty little head around the idea of somehow breaking the mold and becoming the best puppeteer of Konoha. Well, maybe not that last part, but it was still something she wished to get better at over time. Her little train of thought was of particular interest to Yui, as she mulled it over in her head. There was a good point for creating something that could help her heal a wide group of people in just a few seconds compared to most other medics with her abilities. Her eyes lit up with a fiery drive as the young Genin would lean forward and scribble down her thoughts. "That's a good point! Puppets could totally help with healing people, even through my bonds. But I dunno what it even might look like. It's gotta be big and strong and scary!" She wore a focused expression on her face while trying to imagine what such a puppet would look like that. Yui crossed her arms, rocking back and forth for a moment, then a minute. After around two minutes, she jumped back up to life and would go over to any kind of scrap piece of paper that was free and fetch a pen before quickly drawing down what had come to in her mind. At times the girl scratched out a vague idea that hadn't panned out the way she thought it would be but would eventually reaching a finished draft after five minutes or so.
"How's it look?"
The end result was a tad...terrifying for somebody as naive looking as Yui. The product itself almost looked inhuman in a way, consisting of a torso, head, and enough arms to carry just about anything that might need lifting in Sumika's workshop area. There were vague scribbles of fierce looking fangs, horns, and other little notes here and there, but Yui at least had a start, albeit a terrifying one.
"I gave it a lot of hands to touch people and cast a bunch of jutsu at once. Do you think this might work?"

Sumika smirked as Yui jumped into action, using the time to craft a new faceplate for Sumiko from mokuton. She'd barely finished fitting it before the girl had her creation sketched out. She plucked the paper away turning it side to side and squinting at it, occasionally turning her attention to Yui, including holding the paper at arm's length so she could get a side by side view. She seemed extremely invested in the sketch, routinely seeming to do some considerations and nodding her head in the process. After a few minutes, she handed the paper back to the younger puppeteer.
"Yeah, I like it. S-Ranked zag. The muddy sticks hate it when you zag. What's it made out of? Gotta have mechs and mats." She said, on to the finer details of crafting the puppet. Sumika couldn't say it was what she expected, but then Sumika had also learned better than to set rigid expectations of people she didn't know. In her experience that tended to generate more disappointment than anything else, and she'd felt the weight of someone else doing it to her for more years now than she cared to count. If the kid wanted a big creepy puppet, the kid could have a big creepy puppet. Who was Sumika to tell her she couldn't, or shouldn't? There was too much cookie cutter crap around the village anyways.
Sumika busied herself digging around through storage in the shop as she let Yui ponder the remaining elements of the puppet. A few boxes of hardware, some structural components, a decently sized chakra battery. The older puppeteer was laying out supplies, an activity that ended with her patting the top of the workbench and looking at Yui. "Workbench is yours, whenever you need it." She said casually. It seemed, perhaps, more generous than it actually was. Sumika was not hard for cash by any means, and the workshop was made for people to work on puppets closer to where the supplies, and more exotic components, came in than the official building. And also because Sumika in official buildings generally was not allowed to work freely. She'd always planned on having more people here, but Sadayo and the lurking JUEI meant there had been little in the way of takers. Most, which was to say all prior to Yui, sought to avoid to shinobi with a standing beef against the Hokage, and it didn't help that someone had started rumors that said beef was the result of jealousy towards Sadayo's expert puppet craftsmanship.

The young puppeteer looked proud of herself at Sumika's approval of her rough design for her first puppet ever. If the Sumikage was willing to give her the greenlight for her project here then it was totally ready for immediate approval! She gave her a thumbs up while taking her idea paper with her towards the workbench offered to her and quickly got to work. With all of her little tools by her, Yui would raise her...thing to the sky...What even was this thing? The child gave it a blank stare for a moment while observing all of its intricacies. And would soon come to the decision that this tool was used to hammer stuff in because of the flat head!
"Ah, how do I...build puppets? Do I need to go get wood? Or maybe go mine for ore?" Yui asked, looking absolutely and hopelessly lost. "This is tougher than it looks..."

"HA! Haha! Nah. I put my workshop in the bazaar so you didn't have to run off and find crap. Got sick of that nonsense in the village's workshop. I make my puppets out of Mokuton and Jiton mostly, but they got plenty of stuff kicking around out there to build you a puppet." Sumika said, clearly amused by the prospect of busting a** to build a puppet when they were in the middle of Konoha's trade center. "Don't worry, I'll spot you. Hey Cobalt." The puppeteer let out a little chirp of a whistle that immediately grabbed the attention of the big panda. "Help Yui, would ya? Just let 'em know you're with me, they all know Cobalt, they'll let me pay them later. Big guy will lug the stuff, keep you from hurting yourself" She said, turning her attention back to the girl as she gestured in the bear's direction. Of course, Sumika was leaving out all the bits where they'd let her pay later because she smuggled stuff in and out of the village for basically everyone here, but what Yui didn't know wouldn't hurt her. Probably. Actually, that was just demonstrably false, but unless Jashinists showed up again it was highly unlikely the kid would manage to get injured wandering around the bazaar unless she decided she needed to pick up every sharp thing on display.

Fluid Movement: Techniques used for a blocking, countering or evasive action have their cost reduced by 5 stamina per rank of the technique.
Whirlpool Walking: In the Deflecting Stance, the user can deflect a technique of their body rank or lower once every three posts for no activation, still requiring the stamina/chakra cost paid.
Move As Water: Techniques that target multiple opponents may now have additional reserves paid in order to strengthen the effectiveness of the individual attack to the next highest rank.These can be paid individually, not requiring chakra or stamina to be paid for every split technique.
Riptide: In the Weak Stance, the user may perform 4 activations in a given post. In the Strong Stance, the user may perform an additional offensive activation each post. Each additional technique costs an extra 20 Chakra to perform and must be either basic combat or come from this Style.

After half an hour, Hiroshi found himself in the bazaar of Konoha. Therein, oddly enough, he found Soyoka approaching him. “You again?” Hiroshi grunted. “Ain't too pleased to see you my damn self, boy,” Soyoka sighed. “Anyway, yer final task is ta clean up all the trash around 5 different stalls. Ya better hurry, 'cause ya ain't got too long,” Soyoka showed a timer that had shown 15 minutes and 10 seconds. “Are you crazy? That's not enough time for these stalls!” Hiroshi exclaimed at what he thought was a ridiculous request. “Ya just wasted 5 seconds complaining rather than actually doing it. I guess you don't wanna be a shinobi after all,” he shrugged his shoulders and sat on a nearby stool and grinned at Hiroshi. The young boy angrily grabbed a broom and a trash can from the first stall he found and began going to work.
He began sweeping the peeled fruit into the trash can hurriedly as he made sure to not miss a mark. He looked at his trash can and realized that if he bent it over as he did to sweep the fruit in, it would simply spill out. He then threw the broom down and began to use his hands to pick up wrappers and worn out sheaths made of leather. He did this until the trash can was full, completing the cleaning of 6 stalls rather than 5 due to him losing count and only wanting to finish the job. “There, I'm done,” he said as he looked back at Soyoka, but saw he was no longer there. He did, however, see the watch one the very place he was sitting and saw that there had been 10 seconds left. “Where did Cowboy-sensei go?” Hiroshi continued to look at the watch as he watched it countdown to 0.

Sumika kicked her feet up on a block of iron sand created from what was normally her cloak as she leaned back slightly in a chair just outside of the door of her workshop. She sipped on some kind of juice box looking thing, with far too aggressive branding to actually be marketed at children, and turned a little geared mechanism over in her free hand. "Never shoulda made this thing, everyone and their mother - and their mother's mother - wants one for their toys. It's supposed to at least be in a puppet." She grumbled to herself before dropping it in the breast pocket of her bomber jacket.

The Poisoner walked through Konoha with blind rage. He was unseeing as he moved through the place he'd lived in his entire life, only aware of the distant cawing of crows he couldn't see. His mind was filled with Yatagarasu's prophecy, and the only thoughts he could drudge up were monosyllabic or simply images of the faces of his teammates. He couldn't put a name to any of their faces, but like Taurin, all of his loved ones would be claimed by the flames of fate. And his bond with Yatagarasu made him the hand of fate. His certainty of this truth allowed him to channel nature chakra, giving him the advanced skills of a sage.
He had already dealt with one member of his past. He had many more to feed to the flame, and his newly strengthened bond with the crows made it easier for him to move through the village for this purpose. Before long, he wandered upon the light-haired woman that filled much of his mind before he met Yatagarasu. He pulled his windmill shuriken out, coating the blades with his custom poison [ Fiercest Blades ]. He would force her to meet the flames of fate quickly, as she was destined to do. He was silent as he threw the blade with an uneven chakra coating to make it move unpredictably [ Pinball Toss | Rank S+ | Complex ].

3. ▰ Pinball Toss | Rank S+ | Complex Throwing the shuriken after unevenly applying chakra to it, the user enables the shuriken to change direction as pre-determined by the time they toss it. The shuriken moves unpredictably (by the opponent's perspective) and negates the enemy's agility stat as such. This technique can be extended by two more posts by paying two ranks below its cost for upkeep [the windmill shuriken can still be attacked/disrupted directly which stops its movement].
