Fahn hadn't cried out for her green in time and the damage was done. But Alenciath was already moving in to smooth it over - after all, it hadn't been that bad, right? They weren't going to the healer, right?

5/5 As your dragon weaves to catch Thread, you're thrown hard against your riding straps. They stop you from falling of your dragon, and you're grateful that V'mel Liat had you spend all that time making them! Unfortunately, once your dragon straightens out, you realize they might be a little loose. Whoops. Better tighten those up!
Fahn had no worries about falling from her dragon, her straps holding her securely as Alenciath dove after her mark. But she couldn't help but frown when she had to tighten them up - again. Maybe she'd make them just a liiiitttle tighter this time.

Another routine firestone toss went well, and both Rossoth and Ke'res glowed with unspoken pride. They were doing well- even the other rider thought so...

The pride faded quickly as Rossoth unleashed flame on a wingmate. He hissed, apologising in a manner most gracious and gentlemanly. It's okay- you didn't mean to.

As they Betweened to reposition themselves, they found themselves practically hugging Thread. Rossoth veered at the very last second, catching a fortunate thermal. That was closer than he cared to admit, but Ke'res was impressed by his quick reactions.

Rossoth contemplated graduated life for a moment, then seared a chunk of Thread that had escaped the fiery breaths of dragons above them. No matter where or with whom they were flying, he would always do his duty to Weyr and world. Ke'res laughed a little at the thought of such a noble, duty-driven dragon, but then remembered he had, for some reason, picked her, and he expected her to do the exact same. Oh. She wouldn't have anyone else, of course... but surely there would be a moment or two of peace they could enjoy without the weight of duty upon their shoulders?

The fight continued. Rossoth was relentless, for which Ke'res was grateful. She remembered being much weaker before embarking on the adventure that was weyrlinghood- he lifted her up, and encouraged her to reach greater heights. Her concentration and focus were much sharper than they had once been, for all of her information-gathering ways. Somehow they were not so different, no so separate, for all of the barriers he erected between his hearts and the outside world.

They were the picture of focus, dodging and flaming like they'd already graduated, but Demodeth still noticed when they took a hard turn and R'in shifted farther than he should have.

Yes. I've for it. R'in reached for the strap crossing Demodeth's mind and pulled it taut. We should go back to the bowl if this happens again.

Normally Demodeth's aim was one of his strengths, but this bit of Thread was particularly sneaky. He was certain he had burned it all away right up until the moment a strand or two dug into his wing and he blinked Between.

They appeared moments later a few feet from where they had been, but unfortunately, the Thread had shifted there too. Demodeth let out a squeak of pain and popped back where he had been, hoping the Thread would get the hint this time.

After Ke'res' mortification wore off slightly, Rossoth was able to help her focus on the task at hand. A distracted rider was never good- and as it turned out, he needed her eyes to spot a last moment chunk of Thread that was making its way towards them at fast pace. With a quick skip Between, danger was safely avoided.

It seemed that Rossoth was not quite so quick on the second attempt. After spotting another tangle of Thread himself, he veered, but grunted, and Ke'res noted that he tried to hide some pain from her. What's wrong?
Just... nothing... a pulled wing muscle, perhaps. He tried to smother the ache so she wouldn't worry more, but the concern was there. He sighed.

There was a call for more firestone, and the pair flew up to the low-altitude wing. This time Ke'res breathed through her worries, trying to put her last failure out of her head. With precision she didn't think she had, she tossed it to them, and received a thanks in signal. Rossoth returned them to their wing, glad things had gone better and that his rider's confidence was restored slightly.
