Halvor

Halvor watched as the green and blue dragon impressed with their's. While he had heard of what it was like to witness, and experience an impression, he still couldn't quite get his head around it. From the outside, it looked. . . interesting? One moment you're standing there and the next a dragonet is looking at you with rainbow swirling eyes. He knew there was much more going on in the gaze they shared--but he had no way of knowing what that felt like.

His gaze shifted back to the emerging dragonets on the sands. A green emerged from the Amortentia's shell and seemed to be looking around. If he had to guess it looked like she wanted the attention of others. To be fair, that assessment had come from watching the other green's on the sands. Was this a trait unique to greens? It was something to find out later. Had he have been in the weyr longer he might have immediately known the answer. Where he came from though. . . knowing about the habits of dragons was just a small blip on the radar. In fact, the chances of impressing there were slim to none. Not for someone like him. Halvor quickly stopped that line of thinking. They'd been told to keep their thoughts more positive and if he continued his previous thoughts he knew it'd turn dark.

Drawing his eyes to the brown Be Prepared, he could immediately tell the dragonet seemed to show no interest in the candidates. Did the dragonets want to spend a few moments experiencing life outside of their shell before they went to their's? He could understand wanting to be your own person--or dragon--even for a moment. Keeping their's waiting would be a small chunk of time in comparison, but it'd allow the dragonets time to know what life was like as an independent being. So far he hadn't witnessed a dragonet burst from their egg and immediately go to their bonded. Or maybe they wanted to have a little fun first? Maybe they needed time to see if their's was worth it? Halvor had so many ideas floating through his mind.

Once more his eye was drawn away to the Death Eater egg as it began to shake almost violently. It seemed that it wanted out. Halvor couldn't help but think it was lucky for everyone that the eggs were so hard considering the dragonets seemed to be excited to be free of their shells. A quick glance of the eggs the non-moving eggs showed that maybe not all the dragonets were ready to be free. Were they waiting for something?

Then there was the bronze moving in a circle in front of them. Halvor shifted into a crouch ever so slightly, just enough to keep his knees bent. If the bronze was prepared for something, he'd take the subtle cue to do the same. Whatever that was. "I see you." He barely whispered.

((Posted for Hatts because Gaia is broken))

While reminding himself over and over that they were just baby dragons and things could get much worse but weren’t there yet, Rizdax was once again reminded simply that he wanted to keep his friends safe. Especially with Nalacko right at his back peeking around his skinny body, it brought back warm memories of how his youngest brother used to be and of course that brought soul crushing thoughts of how he’d likely have been just a couple turns shy of Nala in age. Stamping those thoughts down as they ripped through him and threatened to bring tears, Riz simply tilted his head back a bit, eyes still on the red eyed group of dragons that were beginning to look for their riders and whispered, “It’s okay, you’re safe as long as you stay right nearby. I promise.” Riz would let a baby dragon rip him to shreds before he saw another person die, another friend that felt like family.

Swallowing against the lump of pain in his throat, the redhead squared up beside Shar as a barrier. They were just baby dragons looking for their own bonded, however they went about it wasn’t their fault, it was their personality, and every single baby out there deserved to be washed in feelings of safety and love, no matter how violent they got. They were Pern’s future after all, Gr’del had taught him that much the first few days Riz had been in lessons and he’d never forgotten it. If a baby was subject to thoughts that might alarm it then it could hop between and Riz would never forgive himself if he was the cause. You’re all strong babies, please just focus on finding yours so they can love you, he thought almost desperately as the man tried to melt the piece of ice that stabbed into his heart earlier.

Think safety and love, think of friends, think of anything but your own failures, he reminded himself. There was time enough to crumple later when it was just himself and his fire lizards. It certainly helped to see two of the calmer babies Impress, brought a smile to his face at least, both a blue and a green. Surely there were some good things to come then! Maybe some of his friends would get to meet theirs as yet more eggs began to hatch.

There was a lot of activity to keep track of: particularly the budding creep-fest and conflict over in Rhianth's clutch, the group of eggs from which she'd felt similarities to a few. Not that that meant anything, of course, there were surely other candidates who felt that way, and it would be the hatchlings who ultimately knew what was best for them. But there was activity in Fianth's clutch as well, from Be Prepared who had turned its back on her at the Touching, to the green sweeping enthusiastically through the candidates' ranks, to the bronze looking out for his green sibling.

To the small, dark blue making his rounds at a measured pace, that in time brought him closer and closer to her and Lauthisen. She noticed him, of course, she knew well to stay aware of her surroundings regardless of where the primary drama seemed to be, but she simply assumed that he must want someone in the general vicinity...maybe even Lauthisen. For while she wanted a dragon, without a doubt, she had not allowed herself to yearn for one the way that so many did. So to see one coming close didn't cause hope to swell in her chest; there was only patient interest to see what it did.

And what he did was sit right before her and reach out a paw, which she reflexively turned her hand palm-up to catch like she would a canine offering such a gesture (not that there was any comparison, oh no!). And still she just stared, wondering in those seconds what in the world he was doing there, and what exactly she was supposed to do.

Until he spoke, and he was Hers, and she still didn't know what to do. Not with any of it. Not with his questions, not with the creeling, not with his rainbow eyes, not with the love - how long since she had felt a warmth anywhere even akin to that? How long since she had not just been alone? For she had accepted only the tiniest handful of others, and only safely at arm's-length, including the young man beside her. Acceptable, agreeable, worth spending time with...but.

Bonds did not come easily for Talis.

The rainbows were slowly edged from the blue eyes with yellow, and he leaned more of his weight into her hand with a questioning look. Would even she not accept him? MyTalis?

Supporting the delicate weight he leaned on her with one hand, she brought the other up to cup his muzzle, brushing her thumb over the dark hide. That's not why I was looking at him, she finally answered. And he would know it to be the truth, because she let him in to see, as she bent to press the lightest of kisses against his forehead. A blue saved me once before. I would rather have a blue than anything. You're everything I could want, and more.

Relief permeated the dragonet, blue and purple flooding his eyes, and he breathed out all his tension in a sigh. Her stayed that way with her for a few moments longer before dropping all four feet back down into the sand, and fixed Lauthisen with an inscrutable look as His paused to offer, "Try not to get chewed on, no one'll want those robes secondhand."

Phryana

"The lord of the sands," She agreed, watching the lounging bronze with an appreciative eye. Though she knew little of dragons, the spirit of Crucio had her nodding silently in thoughtful approval. But to see her hard work in freeing her siblings be rewarded with violence--it brought back a flash of memory, of men who saw the women they bought as property for their amusement. Her lips compressed briefly before Phryana dismissed the thought. She had no time to dwell on the past.

More and more dragons began to hatch, aided by their siblings, and only the ignorant would fail to see the lines being drawn in the sands. Other dragons ignored the mounting tension, investigating candidates and claiming them for their own. Imperio's sweet gaze was enough to make her smile. That one had been a doll, even in the egg... and then another began to hatch that had rewarded Phryana with quite the experience.

Amortentia didn't seem to receive the welcome she expected, and the tall woman clicked her tongue softly to herself. Bad manners and poor taste from the robed watchers. "If they can pine over glittering hides, they can at least show the same courtesy to the rest," She spoke so only the boy beside her could hear. Not to worry, pretty thing. Phryana knew what a clever mind you had. She watched the green almost fondly.

Ruunan [HR] - 16 - he/him/his - App Woodcrafter

Ruunan wanted to believe Metzli so desperately- he tried to rein in his fear, and tell himself that these dragons just wanted love. They weren’t going to hurt him. They were just upset and tired from having hatched, and hungry. These candidates were right. Nothing bad was going to happen. He’d worked himself up into a state of fear because of his own problems- and then he’d placed that fear onto the dragons.

They weren’t so bad. They were just… hanging out. Like siblings do.

His smile grew a little more earnest. He still felt somewhat shy and awkward around his human companions- especially as they had both accidentally bumped into him (was he standing in the wrong place?)- but was now less meek. “Oh. That’s good to hear.” He nodded, dark eyes on Metzli’s back as they moved in front of him. “Yes, she really is beautiful…” He answered, his voice soft as he found himself lost in admiring the lovely green. He’d forgotten, in all of his anxious worrying and overthinking, just how pretty newborn dragonets could be.

He looked around and saw the two Disney siblings- one circling protectively aroun the other- and was reminded of his sister. “They’re sweet, too…” That iron grip on his heart- Fear Monster’s control of him- loosened a little at the sight. “Thanks… both of you, really. I was getting really nervous.” He gave a tiny, shaky laugh and shook his head once more.

The Creel for attention brought Saekagi's attention back around smartly, blinking at the little green who's eyes whirled pretty purple and blue as she got the attention she was after. Guess it must seem unfair, as many eyes as were probably on those Bronzes still making rounds of the sands... and those who were still warily watching Crucio with her dangerous eyes.

He tried to give Amortentia an encouraging look, though he also glanced toward Dream is a Wish and Go the Distance.

Quite the mix of personalities, but nothing had gone quite as sour as he'd honestly anticipated it would. Maybe he was wrong to be quite so worried?

Zelaya
The process of assisting siblings continued across both clutches, and Zelaya couldn't help but feel a warm pulse of affection for the hatchlings on the sands. All of them. A wing had to rely upon all members, even those that were different or didn't get along personally. A Weyr had to rely upon all its wings to fight thread and do what was needed. Pern herself had to trust in and rely upon her Weyrs. These babies, even more than they felt their fellow candidates were, were showing themselves as bright examples of such processes.

They looked on with quiet, gentle pleasure as another green found her feet on the sands, the loving creels she made proving she just wanted attention. They'd always imagined themselves upon a green—when they managed to imagine impressing at all—a dedicated, solemn one, or a gentle, ladylike one to match what they were (supposed to be). A kind and helpful green, one that understood how they fit into the weave of life. It was so hard to tell at a glance though, and so they offered up the same open warm welcome to all the dragonets upon the sands, any color of eyes or hide. Some they had been fond of in the shell—Imperio had been kind, and Expelliarmus too—and though they could never be 'hers', they loved them all for who they were and what they would go on to do for Pern.

Finnisa
More and more and more hatchlings! It was like foaling season back on the farm all over again, life bursting forth all around! Finnisa shifted her weight, hips swaying a bit to one side, arms crossing casually as she eyed the newest green addition to the growing herd on the one side. "Pretty little thing, isn't she?" She asked of no one in particular. Looked a bit keep for eyes on her too, given her reactions. But a good herder could keep an eye on multiple critters at once, and her gaze rolled onward, over the curse trio as they moved and nudged eggs. Over the sprawling, reclining Slytherin. Back to Go The Distance, on guard and ready, and even the disinterested Be Prepared. Were any for her this time?

Theo
More and more and more! He'd never seen so many hatchlings in place at once before! As the green and blue both found theirs, his claps joined the roars of the crowd in joyful applause. Yes! It never failed to leave his heart trembling in awe and terrible wonder, that sight of the bond freshly made. To be joined, in mind and heart and soul, to a dragon...oh, he'd longed for such a thing ever since he'd seen his first dragon long ago. But it had come for Herg'r, and not him, and he had also long since come to terms with that. His brother would soar, but he would leave his mark on dragonkind too—leave behind all the stories and songs and works he could to glorify them for the future of Pern.

"What was it like...?" He caught himself half-whispering to Sylfie. "When you impressed Hes? I imagine it was...was just wonderful..." Like those impressions down there too. Each one, a miracle. His eyes danced from hatchling to hatchling. Which next? He ached to see that joy come over them again!

Helaku found himself unaccountably heartened by the surge of protective power that broke over him like a wave. It seemed to infuriate an ichor-stained Crucio green as she turned to shriek angrily at one of the eggs. Was that the source of that power? It had the Avada Kedavra bronze's attention, too, if for a moment. He began to worry for the inhabitant of that egg. Avada Kedavra had already shown himself quite willing to lash out at his siblings, and hatchling brawls on the Sands definitely had the potential to get ugly. Please be careful, he thought towards the Expelliarmus egg.

Then there was not just one but two more greens on the Sands, and one was making a very fast beeline towards the Candidates, sending some of them scattering.

Oh! One of the rocking eggs broke open to reveal another dragonet that was unmistakably bronze, even through all the egg goop and sand. Helaku couldn't help but feel a swell of approval as Go The Distance bronze sought out a sibling to protect and place himself between the little green and those others. Even right out of the shell, this one showed a good heart. He hoped it would be enough should things turn bloody...the Crucio green still put his nerves on edge.

...Wait, what was that? Another bronze! Helaku marveled at how many bronzes this clutch had spawned already, and the steadiness of this one as he stared Crucio down. This Expelliarmus bronze had guts, exuding such defiance before he had even hatched.

He wasn't sure how to feel about the demeanor of the brown that had hatched from the Be Prepared egg. He was so long, so slender, and so very difficult to tell the mood of. He seemed safe enough...for now, at least.

Faranth, but there were a lot of hatchlings on the Sands now! He wasn't sure that he'd expected both clutches to hatch at once, and it was proving incredibly difficult to look out for everyone. He was yanked back to his immediate surroundings by a painful lash to his legs from a tail as the How Far I'll Go green wound her way through the boys. He stifled a yelp, lifting one foot and then the other to rub at his legs a bit. Nothing really harmed, even if it did sting. He dimly noted Let It Go's inspection, and perked up slightly as Imperio creeled at the Candidates. "What do you want, little one?" he said to himself in a low voice.

To an outside observer, this could have been aimed at any one of the several hatchlings wandering about. Even with one or two Impressing, there were still many to watch. Helaku could only hope he wasn't completely missing when any of them broke shell. Go The Distance was now pacing in front of the Candidates, and Helaku could swear the little bronze was...protecting them? "He looks like he's ready to jump in the middle if those ones come at us..."

He cast a look at a nearby Candidate. Not anyone he knew, but Helaku wasn't going to just ignore the High Reaches Candidates just because they weren't people he saw every day. Not on purpose, anyway. "A lot of hatchlings out there. How are you holding up?"

[b[Siv

Really? Really? Really.

Siv glanced back to Amortentia again, expression most unimpressed. Yes, she was beautiful, but did she need to snatch attention from others? Even Siv didn't do that. Rude.

And Siv sighed, rolling her eyes. She didn't mean to come off as mean, but... This was... Kind of a drama queen green.

Amila

Amila WAS however much more sympathetic to poor Amortentia than Siv. She still clung to Ielin's hand -- sure 19turn olds didn't normally, but the man was safe and she appreciated the kindness. But THIS was a crying, unhappy newborn creature, and Amila knew what to do. Softly, the girl crooned to Amortentia fondly, still clinging-- but all too happy to praise the lovely green. It was such a treat seeing them all but she really did deserve focus for being newly hatched. Hatching was hard! And Amortentia looked so sweet, so precious and lovely and Amila wanted her to know she was! And dote she did, cooing from her spot.

{rism Shine

Sorry fore multiple quotes Amila was also reacting to CRYING BABY and clinging.

Rykin

There. That was more like it. When things were quieter and he had time to think, Rykin was better at comfort, but here, faced with three or four dragonets that looked like they were scheming, he wasn't much help at all.

He nodded a somewhat cheery hello at Meztli, recognizing the other Candidate from Western Weyr, then focused back on the hatching dragons. The reality of two queens clutching at the same time was far more hectic than he could have imagined, and he found himself paralyzed by choice as to where to look.

Saekagi blinked in faint surprise as he was addressed again, and then flashed another of those slightly thin, smiles to Helaku, as he added, clearly trying to be joking:

"...Not dead yet." And laughed quietly at the grim joke. "I mean... better than it could be. You?"

There were so many hatchlings wandering around and so many more that hadn't decided to hatch yet. He was trying not to think about it, because the more he looked at the numbers the more incredibly overwhelming it seemed. Incredible, to think about really. "...Think you'll impress?" He asked, which seemed like a foolish question. Probably more of them thought so than not, and the odds were good.

"Not dead is good, means there's still a chance." The smile that Helaku gave the other young man was warm as he chuckled along softly because hey, why not get a bit of a laugh out of the risk inherent in standing here? His face sobered slightly at the question, expression more thoughtful even as his eyes kept moving from hatchling to hatchling to Candidate to hatchling. "I...don't know. Some of the eggs seemed nice at the Touching, but they could be nice to everyone. But if I didn't think I could Impress, then what would I be doing here?"

Helaku didn't think he wouldn't Impress eventually, but today? He wasn't sure he wanted to tempt fate by being overconfident. It was possible, and that was as much as he would let himself assume.

The grin returned after a moment, a bit crooked but still warm as ever. "Though there are a lot of hatchlings today. I'm having trouble keeping track of them all!"

WHUMP!!

Be Our Guest toppled over suddenly, almost as though whoever was inside had tried to burst from their shell all at once...and not quite managed it.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 30, 2018 11:19 am
"...I wish I were that sure...." Saekagi sighed quietly, and winced sympathetically as Be Our Guest tipped over with a thump. Oof. He hoped that didn't hurt...it didn't seem to have hurt most of the other dragons though, to thump and rattle and flop over. It just... looked uncomfortable from a human standpoint.

"...Keeping track of them isn't helping my nerves, I admit. I keep waiting for one of them to take a bite out of someone, or claw someone... but most of them so far have been nice enough, give or take a welt..."

He was probably hurting their feelings but he just... well he was trying. That was all he could do.

Korbet

Minutes passed. He didn't remember Theo's words like he'd told himself he would, but to be fair he hadn't actually been trying. Something about gentle perfection, lost now to the action below. Despite his initial disinterest, Korbet had hunched forward with time, paying special attention to Crucio, even though he didn't want to. She made him nervous. He'd seen too many maimings at the claws of spirited hatchlings to be comfortable with the little red-eyed cackler.

Aah appeared from Between, tapping the flask at his belt with her tail.

    Korbet looked down. "What? No."

    Tap tap tap.

He stared. He sighed. He glanced at Theo and Sylfie out of the corner of wide eyes, then muttered, "Fine." One sip wouldn't kill anyone. It wasn't like he was a Candidate anymore.
