Zarike

"I'm not scared!" He straightened back up while still managing to look embarassed all over again. He coughed and shook his hair back from his face. "Sounds like you have enough of that to go around. I wouldn't want to distract her from you." He winked.

Aly'on

Aly'on looked out to where the shore meet the sea and Ihiaansith laid, sunning and watching. "Ihiaansith isn't to big on fighting thread either..."And he understood the displeasure of being stuck doing something so out of character for ones self. Aly'on had too many younger siblings to care for. P'rell had himself and Venaith and without help going alone could be a death sentence.

Valineaux

"Whuh? Wait what the fu—" Valineaux caught herself, wide-eyed, and stared at the green behemoth that broke the conversation in half. Her arm hadn't yet left her companion's shoulders before the dragonet barged straight into her brain. Into her thoughts, no less. Like she belonged there or something.

Like she belonged —

It struck her then — first a chilling numbness, peeling away all frustration and feeling for the crowded beach hatching. All thought fell away, as if poured straight onto the sands. And in its place, in a slow but surefooted growth, she felt an indescribable murmur. A thread of hope, twined with happiness, twined with love, twined with excitement, twined with pride, twined with daring, twined with that ephemeral glow on nights where she felt most alive. Where she felt like herself — from every tip of her body.

But what she felt then was an incomplete account, for she felt beyond what occurred within her own body. She felt the gentle swell of skin, the great breath taken, the need and the hunger and the excitement and the exasperation and the thirst and the heat, all explosive and yet abstracted from herself. And she knew, then, that she'd be saddled with this damned loudmouthed dragon for the rest of her life.

And they were going to light High Reaches up! Soon a smile wormed its way onto Valineaux's face, then it blossomed into a full, daring, arrogant grin. "How 'bout that?" She looked from the dragonet, to the stranger, to Dorame, still grinning like her face threatened to break. "All I had to do was stand here chatting with you tunnelsnakes and I impress without even trying! Not a bad deal, eh?"

Akaris

Akaris looked on with a mixture of relief and disappointment as the pale bronze with lovely wings Impressed. On one hand, it was a pity that he wasn't Rylyrr's...nor had the bright one been, but that one had seemed a bit rough, so perhaps that was for the best. And the pale one had been a bit timid. And the brown...awfully showy and intent on soliciting attention. So perhaps that was all for the best; none of them had been quite good enough, she decided in retrospect.

There were plenty of eggs left still! Maybe one of those would have his perfect bronze or brown inside. And the blue was still about, too. She..wasn't sure about that. She wasn't acquainted with any blues, so she didn't know what to think. The number of dragons she knew well and was comfortable with amounted to exactly one green, one brown (which she hadn't seen in ages), and one bronze.

Lauthisen - Western

Calm and collected, as always. Lauthisen snorted quietly to himself before he flicked his gaze back to the hatchlings. Sure enough, she'd Impressed. "No kidding." He said, watching the dark green barrel her way through candidates until she'd found her person. Good enough for him. That left the blue, and the shy gold. At least, of those currently hatched.

"You never know how long you'll be standing," He said to her, as an aside. "Could be Turns. Or you might get lucky out of nowhere." A shrug. Dragons always knew, or so they said. It wasn't up to people to question how they knew which person was supposed to be Theirs.

Riders
Vosin and Gold Killakeeth- W
The pair watched the parade of young dragons emerge onto the sands. It was a flat out docile one compared to their last hatching. Not that she was complaining. Well until one of the young bronzes took a dislike to one of the male candidates. Opps, maybe she thought too soon.

Ah one of those twins impressed to a handsome blue! Vosin gave a cheer, undoubtedly unheard among the din. Ah, a brown Vosin. He is quite large too. The young bronze put the kid in his place and let everyone hear it. “Ouch, scathing, but probably what he deserves.” It looked like one of the bronzes had picked his rider, and it wasn’t Mari.

Killakeeth crooned a welcome to the new gold. “Well well.”

Ly’bur and Brown Hinburath- HR
Hinburath tilted his head as a bronze hatchling postured aggressively toward one of the boys. Was bloodshed about to happen? Nope, not yet. Ly’bur did take a pleased note of the large brown that emerged from Peach Polka Dot. There was a handsome fellow! Ooooo the bronze was speaking to everyone, judging by some reactions. That’d make for a great story!

Even better was when one egg hatched and revealed its golden content. Which weyr would claim the gold?

High Reaches Candidates
Makimton
Held his place as he turned his head slowly; trying to keep track of each baby dragon as it moved was hard. He was glad when the bronze snarled, it wasn’t at him. Ah look at that big brown! The trumpeting brown was a pleasing sight. He was sexy and he knew it. At least he didn’t look angry. He froze as a voice entered his mind. It took him a moment to realize it wasn’t his, and wasn’t actually directed at him.

Family was important. He automatically thought of his parents and his sister. Sounds of scrabbling and cracking brought his attention back to the eggs. Blue, and bronze, and wiggling eggs. The other bronze was much more mild and gentle. He smiled at the polite request and shuffled into a line. He was mildly surprised by the entrance of a gold.

Nalacko
Nala smiled at the shy blue. She hoped he would find his rider soon. Perhaps when he bucked up the courage? She was sure he could do it. And so it seemed, when the blue called a candidate out from among his peers. And a brown was strutting his stuff for all his admirers.

She winced as a voice, not her own, sounded in her head. Who had that come from? She shifted slowly from foot to foot still among the group of candidates around Rizdax. “Oh!” She squeaked as the other bronze spoke. Quickly she moved out of the way. What if he wanted her friend?!

Nala sighed softly as the bronze picked his rider. In the shuffle she’d lost the group she’d been standing with. Now she felt awkward and lonely. She thought longingly of her friend back home.

Western Candidates
Rinis
The woman didn’t try to push forward among the candidates. She’d arrived late and didn’t mind hanging around the back. A bright trumpet brought her to her toes to admire the handsome brown that had hatched. What a lovely clutch this was shaping up to be! Despite that, she mainly had eyes for the greens and blues.

Given that lecture, it sounded like someone had gotten too big for his britches. Nothing like a minutes old hatchling to put you in your place eh? Her eyes scanned over the greens and blues still on the sands. None of them appeared to be heading toward the back yet. She chuckled softly as a request for a line reached her. They were all kind of jumbled together weren’t they?

With the kids lined up, it was much easier for her to see the dragonets around them. The spacing between the kids also allowed her to see the eggs as they hatched. Rinis barely noticed the gold as she made her shy entry. She did sigh as another green picked her rider from the crowd.

Omurntas
He watched with interest as some babies roamed, and some remained close to where they hatched. His eyes were drawn to the movement by the peach polka dot. Larges claws were slowly coming out. He watched, waiting patiently. Eventually he was rewarded as a brown made his dramatic appearance, and Omurn gave a nod.

His eye widened lightly as he recognized another dragon’s voice in his mind. The only one he’d heard before was that large gold. Then a bronze tackled a boy. Were they a match? Omurn guessed by the red eyed look given to a nearby boy. A…. line? Like the rows of an orchard? He thought about walking through a forest and walking through an orchard. Yes the orchard was easier because it was ordered neatly.

Omurn moved on toward the end of one line, sort of part of it and sort of not. It didn’t last long as the bronze found his rider quickly.

P'rell

P'rell didn't really have anything more to say on that note. He shared a sympathetic look with the brownrider. Seemed like they had some things in common after all. The conversation reminded him of why they were here today in the first place. "I wonder how Fort is faring with their Fall..."

[ green oyath ]

Oyath was BORED, so very bored and it was hot. Why couldn't this hatching go any faster, why were the dragonets so slow in everything they were doing?

This clutch was awful, 3/10 would not watch again.

Sylfie

This was just...every flavor of awkward, wasn't it? She still felt like a fool for almost plowing into the poor, sweet Harper, and she honestly couldn't tell if she felt worse about it than she would have if he'd been annoyed or rude. But however she felt, she could say with confidence that she was nowhere near as uncomfortable as she had been when confronted with a wingleader. Not that she wasn't an out-of-sorts mess regardless.

"I'm from, um, High Reaches," she answered, a bit more promptly this time, although with a hesitance in her tone. Sylfie didn't feel properly from High Reaches, but that was where they lived now, so. That was the answer. As to the bronzes, she blinked and looked over fleetingly. "O-oh, they did?"

She had really not been paying nearly as much attention to the clutch as she should have been, all wrapped up in one awkward interaction after another. When she looked back to Oseathiol, she did notice that he was looking rather pink, and she was...feeling rather pink herself. "I was going to, ah, go back. To Hesperith, I mean. Get a better view...or just some shade. W-would you like to..?"

That would be a good apology for almost running into him, right?

Rio

Rio was really quite relieved that, when he took his leave to get in line as bidden, the brown didn't get upset with him. Or if he did, it was a complaint only his rider heard. But the line was ultimately affected, the bronze found his, the picky green finally found someone worth plucking from the group, and they were left with the blue looking calmly for His. And then one of the larger eggs split, and there was an absolutely precious gold! Poor baby didn't seem quite ready for the spotlight, however, so much as he would have liked to coo over it, he respectfully kept his focus on his companions, though he did quietly wish her the best.

"This is turning out to be quite the shiny affair, isn't it?" he chuckled, noting this strictly as a conversational observation. He wasn't truly concerned one way or the other with how many metallics were or weren't in a clutch, it was purely a point of curiosity. It could be all greens and he would marvel over it jsut as brightly...probably moreso, really.

Talis

"I doubt it'll be today, unless I'm the most absurdly lucky person on Pern," Talis snorted out with a laugh. "Candidate for a whole week, on an island in the middle of nowhere, Impressing from a clutch that wasn't even supposed to be ours." If there really was such a thing as luck, she was fairly certain she'd exhausted her supply of it for awhile when she'd been Searched. She shrugged again. "Turns are fine, I've got no complaints."

"At least I got to see the ocean," she added. And sun. Way, way more sun than she was used to.

Midais - Western Candidate

The little duck egg luckily was saved by its mother and soon hatched into an adorable bronze who didn't take long to impress with a candidate. He gave an apologetic look to Elyk, there were till others. “I think you are suppose to wait, wait until they speak to you or come and find you. Apparently they know who they want.”

It was almost like chaos now on the beach as dragonets hatched and made the way across the sands to find their partners. A few voices echoed into his head, but known of them were meant for him. Still he held on hope that maybe the candidate next to him stood a chance, it wasnt that he didn't want a dragon just, he was new and there was still lots to learn. Most of all it was important for him to already prepare himself to the inevitable disappointment, there were others there who had waited much longer than him, he had time. Besides that was the whole point of the after party, for him to drown away his own self disappointment and have fun with everyone else who were to remain as candidates till next time.

Rylyrr

It hurt slightly to be passed over again but then the quiet ping of rejection had been building over the turns and not so simple now as it had the first half dozen to recover. Back when the excitement kept building and he had more friends among the candidates and shared in their excitement.

Rylyrr pushed a dread behind an ear and collected himself enough to focus on the here and now instead of past regrets. Move on and there was always something else. This wouldn't be the end even if impression didn't happen.

"She is a cute gold," He said instead, focusing on Akaris and the golden dragonet. "Do you think she could be yours?"

Akaris

Akaris flashed Rylyrr a bright, encouraging smile and rocked back on her feet, once again swinging his hand a little.  When he asked her if the gold might be hers, though, she stilled and thought about it, gaze shifting from the shimmering hatchling to her unhatched siblings and then back to her friend. "I don't know," she said honestly, uncharacteristically pensive.  Whether or not a dragon of any color would ever be hers was something she thought about sometimes (she was a candidate, after all!), but after all that had happened they had become uncertain thoughts she didn't share...well, except with Junenth, but he was easier to talk to about that sort of thing than most people.  Rylyrr wasn't most people either, though. "I don't know if a dragon will want me.  I used to think so."

And had been quite certain that she would be perfect for a gold's discerning taste, at that, not that she had been one to turn her nose up at all the pretty greens, handsome blues, and striking whites. "But it's alright if they don't," she decided with a nod; maybe it was something to do with their idyllic surroundings, but she felt more at peace with this revelation than she had previously, enough to finally speak it aloud. "I'm happy."

She scanned the edges for A'ral and R'mor, although with the line beginning to break up, the view wasn't clear. Their dragons, however, were always easy to pick out, and she smiled and offered a little wave. Yes, she was...very happy, actually. Unexpectedly so.
