As loteth emerged from Between from the last clump, he emerged right into another, bigger sheet. He yelped as it came towards him, fast.
(leaving it open for a save but putting in an rp reply now)

Blasted all! As you jump Between to avoid a clump of Thread, the winds change, and when you appear from the icey depths, it's right into a major sheet of Thread! Heavy Damage: -8 HP! They also now suffer a Painful status for the next 3 turns. This will negate any XP gained, and cause double damage if the prompt includes damage (or has you roll for damage).

Feeling a little better, the pair spotted a wingmate in trouble. They pulled off a quick turn (for a massive bronze) and managed to flame the Thread about to score their partners. Turoth sent out a quick mental presence to Loteth to let him know he had his winngmate’s back before flying back to position.
Before he could react to the Thread heading right for him, it was flamed out of the sky by their wingmate Turoth. He sent a quick bugle of thanks before turning back to the task at hand. Nyssa made a mental note to go back and thank the pair properly once Thread was over, that clump could have been terrible for Loteth and herself.
((Saved by Turoth 2 posts up, damage save also negated painful status))
The wind was just awful it seemed, as they flamed a patch of Thread and again, the hot ash blew back at them, again, pushing through the sting to continue flying, and flaming. A little ash was nothing compared to threadscore or being burned by their wingmates by accident.
Quote:
Ouch! You had successfully flamed Thread but the gust push the ash back into you as you fly! The hot ash cloud burns as you fly through it, but you're made of tougher stuff than that! The focus is Thread, not pain! [+2 Pain Resilience]

Exhaustion was crawling through his body as the wind continued to push and pull them in every direction imaginable. The thread was endless and being in the higher altitude meant there was little to no chance in getting a break in between the flames. With Cortun grounded for the most part E’nd was yelling out formations but hadn’t prepared for gust wind, not only sending the whole wing into danger but sent them all off course.
E’nd cursed himself under his breath knowing he would need to apologize afterwards.

Thread was everywhere, and with the formation falling out E’nd and Fadeth found themselves tangled in a mess that they could hardly escape. Thread burned along his tail and claws as the rest found itself climbing E’nd’s arm.

The flame that he blew fell short as E’nd still held his arm from the stinging from the thread, he would have managed an embarrassed look if it wasn’t full of pain.

It was too much, with the pain and the exhaustion slowly catching up to them, they jumped in between to try to avoid more damage. Appearing from the icy depths they found themselves surrounded as the thread burned everything into blackness.

Rhea was half sure the queen was looking more for falling riders than Thread and gently nudged at Eirinth’s conscience. You’ve done so well, she said. But our eyes need to be open to everything, not just the fighters.
< Yes... > Eirinth reluctantly faced forward, checking on nearby queens. And then another small cry went out above, and she jerked her head back up eagerly. This wasn’t to say Eirinth wanted anyone to fall, of course, but being able to cart dragons and riders back to help was the most she felt she could do, seeing as Rhea handled the firepower. That, and it was the closest thing to a social hour she’d get on the job, and she so very much craved the mental and physical contact.
Even if was a bit Threadscored and panicked.
< On our way! > The queen trumpeted her approach and caught the little bronze, tilting as she had before to compensate for the sudden weight as Fadeth shifted this way and that on landing. It took them a moment to realize this was a wingsecond, and Rhea shot a glance up as they descended. What a day...She didn’t envy those stuck at the high altitude.
Eirinth tittered praise in her gentlest tones even if neither rider nor dragon could hear, landing with a soft wheeze to deposit her precious cargo. She felt good about the work, but it was definitely starting to wear on her. After Rhea checked to make sure none of the Thread had made it to them along the journey, it was back to the queen’s wing.

Up you go! You're not going to let this dragon fall -- not on your watch! Though they land awkwardly, and start to slide, your queen is able to quickly better position herself beneath the dragon. All that practice has paid off, and she knows exactly what to do. Bravo! Now back to the Weyr so you can get back to your Wing!

Jumping Between, the pair found themselves right in the thick of the Thread they were trying to flame. Roaring in agony, Turoth didn't think twice. He jumped Between and sent them right back to the weyr, the pain not making him question his actions.

Returning to formation, Ar'ad and Turoth both felt good after the trip to the healers. They would be shifting down soon and it seemed their final few minutes among the higher reaches of Thread would end on a high note.

Altitude Change! Hour 4, Round 1 Beings!
High Altitude Wing: Flame's Fury Mid Altitude Wing: Star Flame Low Altitude Wing: Fire Storm
Hour: 1300
Location: West-Southwest of Western Hold. By this point, the plains have turned into thicker foliage. Any thread that falls through will almost be guaranteed to do extensive damage. The amount of lush forests found in this area mean there is ample fodder for Thread to chew through. Ancient trees, wildlife, and anyone out within these jungles are at risk as Thread might eat them from the top down.
Conditions Humidity has increased, and cloud coverage has thickened. While there's a threat of rain, all the clouds seem to do is hinder visibility. The wind has lessened some, the farther south-west the wing travels.

It was time for the last altitude change of the afternoon. R'mor knew from Junenth that Western Weyr had taken a solid beating. With ever updated, R'mor knew that they were well in trouble; Wingleaders had been knocked out of the sky, the Queen's had reported terrible damage, and every Wing had been affected. Coverage was thinning out the longer they fought--he could only hope they didn't need to call on one of the other Flight to assist. This was the last of it, though. All they had to do was finish this last hour and the deed would be done.
We are almost through, this day! Keep fighting, bronze and brown, blue and green, white and gold. The end is in sight, but don't get complacent! You may be weary and hurting; you may be weakened and fatigued; but keep on fighting! Our Enemy has not yet given up, and neither shall we! The Holds and Halls need us. Pern needs us. Flame and fight on, friends, for this is the last of it!
And with that, R'mor gave the signal for wings to change their altitudes.

The last stretch was here, but as R'mor cautioned, complacency would be deadly. Through the damp clouds, J'hcre caught glimpses of forests below, teaming with life. Thread would change that in an instant, and he shuddered to think of what even one clump would do. Paciseth beat her wings strongly, coldly evaluating their situation. Though she never complained, her tiny frame was beginning to work against her, and J'hcre could feel her sides billowing as she sucked down air.
As she pulled up and out of one dive, the wind buffeted her, pushing her right into the path of falling Thread. With a scream of both pain and fury, she darted Between.

Wheeling, flaming, catching thermals, fighting wind.... Threadfall is nothing if not exhausting. Greens, and blues find themselves panting with exhaustion. This is more tiring than they thought. Trying to come up from a dive, they struggle on wing and wind up getting blown right into some thread. Ouch! [+1 Stamina, Moderate Damage -4 HP ] Browns and bronzes aren't having quite as bad a time, their stamina having always been programmed to be a bit more hearty. [+3 Stamina]

Ambrin and brown Beylith Wave 2, Day 3 (1/5)
Quote:
4. You're so focused on flaming Thread that you miss a clump of thread blows up on the wind -- beneath you! If a brown or bronze, your heavier size does cause your tail to get caught! [+1 Between Accuracy & Minor Damage - 2 HP!]
[-1 HP from Wingsecond chance]
Blast, some strands that seemed to be safely past got blown back up at them! Beylith blinked between, but not before he felt the sting of Thread on his tail. Still, the pair's jump was precise, and they were able to catch that nasty wayward clump in its figurative arse.

Undeterred by a little thing like scoring, Paciseth belched forth flame, folding her wings to dive after it. Her satisfaction was palpable as she burned up the clump.

A patch falls down ahead. You dive down, flaming as you go, and both rider and dragon are pleased to watch it turn into harmless ash. This is how it gets done!
