Siv
What was everybody freaking out about?
Siv was watching... Well, the eggs and not the distress or Amortentia, but honestly, it was early, and there was still plenty to observe and sort out and.... No really, what happened now?
She didn't really pay attentiuon, and the teen blinked, looking around at the other candidates before ciocking her head.
Was a dragonet growling? Oooohhh. Someone was probably about to be mauled. A sigh, and Siv resumed contemplating, watching the eggs and Colors of the Wind. Best keep her ears peeled.
Amila
Amila watched Amortentia's reaction and was absolutely horrified seeing a baby so distressed. Ohhh no. Who had upsety-- oh... OH NO SHE CRIED and Amila buried her face in Ianil, starting to cry again herself.
"Oh no, that poor baby! Someone must have really upset the poor thing!"
IT WAS HORRIBLE SHE WANTED TO KICK THE PERSON WHO MADE A BABY CRY THEY SHOULD FEEL AWFUL FOR UPSETTING A BABY aaand she was upset for the dragonet and trying not to sob all over. She couldn't help it though-- the poor baby did nothing wrong and deserved to be LOVED AND ADORED AND SOMEONE WAS DESERVING A GOOD SOLID KICKIN.

Dehka
Soui... seemed to be feeling a lot better, and that was enough to instantly relieve the boy. "Mmhm!" He nodded, giving her hand a small squeeze. "I don't mind..." She'd grabbed his hand at the Touching, so he'd assumed it was a comforting feeling for her. Honestly, it was the only thing he could think to do when she looked as though she was going to wander off.... Dehka paused as the little queen paused near Orri and his friend... and before long, a green tentatively approached the pair. His breath caught for a moment--and sure enough, though the boy stumbled back initially, he soon embraced the little green with tears. It was enough to make tears start welling in his eyes...
Orri's excitement about being so close to the queen was infectious though, and he managed a wobbly, joyful smile. After he paid his respects to them both, his friend came closer, and Dehka choked on a laugh. "It's amazing," He managed to say, grinning. "Oh! Um, Orri, this is Soui. Soui, this is Orri." And more and more dragons were starting to hatch... Dehka couldn't say why, but he was starting to get a strangely ominous feeling. Well. Nothing bad had happened yet, so he would keep his thoughts light.
Said thoughts immediately rushed from his brain as a paw burst from Go The Distance, and Dehka found himself almost gaping. "Oh," he breathed, watching as the bronze burst onto the sands and immediately went to the side of his sister. "Oh..." The color of his hide didn't matter one bit, but the bronze was every bit of the strong, stalwart defender that Dehka knew he could be. He bit his lip, overwhelmed with a surge of both awe and... pride. Whoever this dragon's partner was truly was lucky... one of the luckiest people on Pern!
Tears definitely did start to trickle down his cheeks now, and Dehka raised his other hand to his mouth to hide a smile. Even after his sister was safe, the bronze deliberately began to circle the candidates, his eyes locked onto the hatchlings of Rhianth's clutch. Was he going to protect them?
I'll protect people too. He vowed. Whatever candidates he could--he'd make sure to keep them safe!

Zelaya Zelaya flinched back—not from the babies, not from Crucio's growl or Amortentia's creel. Rhianth's rumble was what'd startled them, but they quickly got themselves back together, hands clenching at their sides, and with a long breath and sigh, they tried to put forth even more that same unwavering calm of acceptance and welcome and unwavering love and pride. Undoubtedly more lessons would be forthcoming for those who did not impress...they would try to be a better role model next time, if that included them.
Finnisa The big mama gold growled, her tiny green daughter joining in the complaint, and Finnisa took a small step back. Yikes! Alright, something'd gotten them on the wrong foot, though she couldn't see any threat to the babies. "Easy now," she caught herself muttering under her breath, hands twitching to lift just a fraction—as she would have done to ward off or comfort a startled herdbeast. She quickly dropped the hand again, not wanting the babies to be mistaken in that she thought of them as animals. They were all lovely, wonderful, intelligent beings, not animals! And their riders would think so even more. Why they weren't keen to meet their matches and get some food was beyond her.
Meztli Meztli flashed a smile back at Rykin and Ruunan—everyone seemed to be calming down. Of course, a moment later twin growls issued from one of the greens and one of the gold mothers. Ohhh boy. Okay, okay. What'd they been told about this sort of situation? "Just gotta stay calm, stay relaxed. If you were thinking afraid-things, try not to? It'll make them scared, and that'll make us more scared and..." They shook their head, running a hand through the tangled russet mess.
"To be honest, mostly when I'm upset I just think about dessert, but...I don't think they'd like that." Their eyes coasted back to the now-cowering Amortentia, unable to quite look away from the little green. That egg hadn't been one of the ones to ask him about desserts, but they'd very much enjoyed its company. Distantly they wondered if the eventual rider for it might alow them to come say hello.
Theo Though Theo's eyes never left the babies (and this high in the stands he couldn't hear most of the creels and croons and growls of those little darlings), his ears hung on Sylfie's every word. "I suppose it only seems too many because, well, there's are so very many eggs!" His hands flew over the pages on his desk, sketching half-formed orbs of eggs and the arc of a dragonet's neck as it stared into the crowd. Notes were scrawled in the corner, his script gone slack and rapid in his excitement, still full of delicate loops, but so slanted as to be nigh-illegible.
His hand kept right on moving, eyes on the eggs as she spoke of impressing. "Perhaps they could...but you're the one I would like to hear about it from..." A dusting of pink sprinkled his cheeks and over his nose, but then another egg toppled, and his distraction chased the embarrassment away. "I'm sure that's how I would have felt as well—this can't be right, they can't mean me. I mean, it's an honor, yes? A partner! One all your own! But they're so special, and...well, how can I be special enough to be worth that in return...right?"

((A post for Princess_Feylin because Gaia is being a jerk!))
Reya
“Excuse me,” a tall young man said to Reya. His knee had brushed her elbow as he folded himself nearly in half in an effort to minimize the amount of contact he made with her as he seated himself.
“It’s fine,” she replied, turning her dark eyes briefly in his direction. He had close-cropped dark hair and a very self-contained manner. She approved of both traits in general, but had little interest in anything that wasn’t to do with hatching dragons at the moment. Nevertheless, she could sense his regard for another few moments, even after she’d turned her attention back to the sands.
“This is your first hatching, isn’t it?” he asked. He somehow managed to speak softly and yet make himself heard over the noise of the crowd. Reya decided to ignore him. There were dragons to watch, and she wanted to see if she could figure out a pattern in how they hatched.
Her brother would have laughed at her attempt to impose order on such a large group of newborn sentient beings if she’d told him what she was doing, but that didn’t stop her from doing it. Reya was good at finding patterns, and good with numbers. If there was one to be found below, she was determined to find it, and then test her theory by correctly predicting a hatching or an Impression. Of course, there were a great many variables involved, but she had a mind made for keeping track of details like that.
“I only mention it,” the stranger went on as if she’d answered, “because your fingers are turning white. You’re cutting off circulation, and if you keep it up you’ll have permanent damage.”
Reya frowned and glanced down at her hands, clasped tightly in her lap. He was correct. When she relaxed her grip the sensation of blood returning to the tips of her fingers was a sharp pain that had her biting the inside of her bottom lip as tears pricked the backs of her eyes.
“Move your fingers slowly and flex your hands gently,” he advised in a tone that seemed oddly...rote?
Reya stole another glance at him and noticed for the first time that he wore a searchrider’s knots. She guessed someone who spent so much time in the cold of between would know all about restoring feeling to extremities. She also noticed that his eyes were fixed on the sands below, as if their conversation had ended. Which, she supposed, it had. She followed his example and his advice and returned her attention to the hatching dragons and the candidates.

Rahmi | He/Him | HR
Rahmi had been taken aback by the draconic laugh. That wasn’t something you hear every day. There was so much activity. A few impressions too! The way the dragonets banded together might be an indication of how well they’d work together as weyrlings and rider pairs. Sure, there seemed to be some tension, but the could be chalked up to different personalities. Under his hand, the teen became aware the trembling of his younger friend. “Tizzy, hey,” He uttered softly. Deeply furrowing his brow, he pulled her to his side and tightened a hug about her. “It’ll be okay. We’re here with you. Anything I can do to help?”
Peering around over the top of Tizenia’s head, what Rahmi saw drew a deep concerned frown across his face. Little Amortentia seemed deeply distressed. Crucio and their mother definitely were reacting to it too, as was the Colors of the Wind green. ’Little one, noooo. I don’t know what’s the matter, but you’re perfect. Yours is waiting somewhere out here. Please don’t let someone bring you down.’ Be Our Guest seemed to be having some trouble and Gryffindor appeared to be working at their shell. You can do it!

Akaris She could do this. She would do this. She repeated not the words, but the feeling behind them, to herself, over and over. Watching the dark, delicate blue and his stately progress was helpfully calming, but then he stopped. Impressed. Something like jealousy snaked into life, just a little whisper of why her?, but it was quickly dismissed. Akaris knew very well the answer to why not me, so there was little point in wondering the details of why someone else appealed to any particular hatchling.
"They are," she agreed with some hesitation. Lovely indeed, but but also frightening, especially in such numbers. "Is there one that you like?"
It was something to talk about, something positive to hold onto, as she turned her gaze back to Dream Is A Wish and her shining brother. In the egg, the green had wanted to know all about her wishes and daydreams - did it remember her and her friend? She knew her own wish was impossible, but maybe there was a dragon here, somewhere, for Rylyrr. That she wished for, more than anything.
