What would have been a minor hit usually, felt like an awful lot of Thread as it got harder to see. Cordrath lept Between to safety, but he still hurt for it.

Cordrath had been lucky to be a large dragon taking that hit. A smaller one may not have been so lucky. They'd been faring well, considering.

How do you keep going through so much Firestone? M'nr teased his dragon, reaching to give him more....just to find they were out.

The final hour of Threadfall had begun. G'rey knew that guilt still weighed heavily on Karhath after their most recent mistake, but they were so close to the end of Threadfall. He nudged his dragon onwards as the wings changed, taking their place back in the low altitudes where they began the fall. And with the wing change, it was a good time to make sure Karhath was stocked up on firestone. He reached into his bag to feed his brown, wincing when Karhath bit his tongue yet again.

His poor brown didn't even yelp. Just whimpered pathetically.

Trying valiantly to catch some thread, your dragon flames a bit sooner than you would have preferred. Surprisingly enough, the flame is long, hot, and sustained longer than usual. Your dragon manages to flame the clump and return to their position in their wing. [+1 Flame Length]

The fight continued, despite Karhath's sore tongue. Thread still fell, although at this altitude they had to begin chasing it down once again rather than flaming the great sheets of the higher altitudes. And to complicate it further, the lack of light made even spotting the silvery strands more difficult. Perhaps that was why, when they finally spotted on, Karhath flamed too soon in his chase. They could not risk losing sight of the strand and allowing it to go much lower.

Thankfully, he still managed to catch the strand before it fell. But G'rey could tell the length of time he sustained his flame had only exacerbated his sore tongue.

G'rey knew conditions were worsening. Truthfully they had started off less than ideal, but each minute saw the wind intensifying and sunset making visibility worse and worse. There was little to do for it except to push through - no dragon of High Reaches in their right mind would abandon their duty, after all. But knowing that fighting Thread was their duty didn't make the fight any easier, especially not with the heavy losses their wings had taken today. A pair dead, more than a few fallen from the skies, too many injuries...

Karhath bugled in alarm when a gust of wind abruptly buffeted him from the thermal he'd been riding, and G'rey had little time to react. It was just bad luck. The pair of them were pushed back into Thread, and this time rather than Karhath it was G'rey who took the hit. His flying leathers - already weakened from the Thread that had hit Karhath's back earlier, couldn't fully stand up to the second assault. And for all the smaller the sliver of Thread was, it was enough to make him cry out as Karhath hopped between to kill it.

He would need to have his flying leathers repaired... Or replaced, if the damage was bad enough.

[+1 Stamina] If a green or blue, you're thrown completely off course, and your wing hits a tangle of thread. [Minor Damage -3 HP ]

The pain of Threadscore was nothing to take lightly, but fighting through such pain was part of being a dragonrider. At the very least, Karhath's concern for him seemed to have snapped his dragon out of the funk he'd been in, and G'rey could only reassure him that he would be fine. The Thread had been killed, and he could be seen by the healers when this fall was over. They were so close to the end of it, and he couldn't just abandon his position this close to seeing the entire Threadfall through. They'd already returned to the Weyr once, and he was loathe to do it again unless it was absolutely necessary.

For Karhath, perhaps. But he would endure.

The heavy winds continued, and as Karhath held his position, a sudden thermal pressed up beneath them. For a moment, G'rey was concerned they would be blown out of position once more. But small as he was for a brown, Karhath managed to bear down on the thermal and hold his position in the wing.

Your dragon flames a small strand of thread, but unfortunately, a gust of wind blows the ash back into you. At the very least, it seemed they had recovered fairly well after a poor start to the final hour. G'rey was fairly certain Karhath was pulled out of his funk and over the sore tongue from earlier, although he imagined he'd have to make sure his dragon hadn't sliced himself too deeply after how many times he'd bitten it this fall when they returned to the Weyr. Visibility was still poor, and the winds remained high.

But for now, they could only flame what Thread was in front of their face. There was a small strand they spotted and easily took care of - but the wind picked up and blew the hot ash back against them. Karhath had just enough time to turn his head from it, hissing in pain as it caught his cheek this time.

Though Slidrianth was fighting valiantly, both he and D'zrak were exhausted and in pain. Still, there was no calling it quits yet, even if this was likely to be the most dangerous hour thus far. D'zrak squinted into the darkness, disliking that glows and dragon flame were his only real source of light. Far be it for Thread to be convenient.

Thread slipped through the ranks, and both rider and dragon spotted it headed right for A'zota and Eriath. It might have been more impressive if it was V'mel they were saving, but eh. It would still be worth it. Slidrianth zipped in close and flamed, protecting the assistant Weyrlingmaster and his green before falling back into position.

Their flaming aim will go down, and they might be slower to dodge out of Thread's way. [Tongue Bitten Effect! Your dragon is distracted by pain. No XP will be earned for the next 3 rolls. Any successes will be nullified. Should you roll a prompt with the possibility of damage, take the max damage allotted for your size/color automatically but it will also end the Tongue Bitten Effect immediately.]

Slidrianth barked with surprise and pain as he chomped down hard on his own tongue. Ow. Bad enough he was already hurting, but to inflict it upon himself??? Life was so unfair!

Quote:
Your dragon spots a few clumps of thread being blown about in front of them. If white, green, or blue, they manage to catch a pocket of air and surge forward, flaming down two of the three clumps, before dropping hard and getting the third. No thread's slipping through on your watch! [+3 Target Accuracy!] If brown or bronze, they don't need as much speed, and instead belch a long flame, catching all three with ease. +1 Target Accuracy, +2 Flame Length!]

Slidrianth flamed neatly, managing to sear several clumps of Thread that were falling straight in front of him. His tongue was still throbbing, so he was less impressed with himself than he could have been.

You check in on your dragon to ensure they're doing all right. Thankfully, your dragon responds that they're feeling fine. All that training and practicing is coming full circle, as your dragon isn't feeling particularly fatigued. If they are suffering from a Fatigue Effect, they get a burst of renewed energy and the status is removed. [+1 Stamina] If your dragon isn't suffering, you are allowed to quote a fellow wingmate (must be in your same wing) who is suffering the effect! Your dragon trumpets at them encouragingly, making them feel better, and giving them a renewed burst of energy and effort. Remove Fatigue Effect from one wingmate!

D'zrak didn't bother to ask how Slidrianth was feeling: his dragon was tired, in pain, and extremely grumpy. No one here looks half as good as you do. He offered. Holleth does. Came the terse reply. He didn't want to be complimented, he wanted his Weyr and to sleep!

[If your dragon is suffering the Tongue Bitten effect, consider this an automatic 4 and take damage. -8 HP]

Before either dragon or rider could react, Thread hit the side of Slidrianth's neck, tangling around D'zrak's leg. The leathers weren't enough to stop the parasitic strands from doing damage, and both rider and dragon roared before popping Between.

That... had definitely hurt.

Just one more hour. Once they pushed through that, they would be finished, free to return home, lick their wounds, and prepare themselves for next Fall. He checked in with Eriath, put she was still flying strongly. Her size helped offer her a bit more stamina than her fellow greens.
