Name: Iolseger Age: 37 Nameday: 3539.09.19 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: ??? Craft: Baker Rank: Journeyman Location: Western Weyr Physical Description: An imposing, well-muscled 6'5", Iolseger has green eyes and thick, wavy red hair. The Western sun hasn't been kind to his fair skin, leaving him quite freckled and sun-damaged, but he doesn't mind.
Personality: Though he is as amiable a man as one might find, Iolseger is not precisely outgoing: not a bundle of obvious, oblivious cheer like a certain blonde brother of his. While not shy, he is calm, quiet, and soft-spoken, and always mindful of everyone around him, whether of their physical space or emotional state. He knows full well how large he is, and that some people may find that intimidating, so he has long since learned to mitigate that - not that there was much of learning curve, as his natural inclination has always been to be gentle and careful. It only became more exaggerated as he grew into his size and, to some extent, became a bit self-conscious of it. He doesn't want to take up more than his fair share of space, and he definitely doesn't want to intimidate anyone, or be thought a blockhead or a bruiser. For all that he's practically built to crack skulls, that is the very last thing he would ever want to do, and is reluctant to even engage in so much as a play-fight. However, if someone were threatened, he wouldn't hesitate to step in, no matter how much he hates being imposing, let alone actually fighting...but he does know that his size gives him an advantage, and it would be wrong not to help someone just because it would put him in an uncomfortable position. Still, he much prefers when he can help by reaching a tall shelf or lugging something heavy.
He is ever-helpful, and enjoys acts of kindness without expecting anything in return. Though he appreciates gratitude - it is nice to have a bit of validation - he doesn't expect it, and he certainly doesn't keep track or try to collect favors owed. If the people he cares about are safe and happy, then Iolseger is happy. This makes it easy for him to get lost in what others need and neglect himself, as he can't say no. He will run himself ragged doing everything he can and then some for others, and not even resent or regret it, just keep pushing and pushing until he physically can't anymore, or is made to stop. And even then, he will feel absolutely terrible that he can't do more, and be weighed down by the guilt of it.
Iolseger can easily be run roughshod over, especially in relationships. He will almost always acquiesce to what the other party wants, and if their happiness costs his, it won't even occur to him to complain.
Positive Trait List gentle, mindful, selfless Negative Trait List self-conscious, overworker, easily exploited
History: The second oldest child of a Baker and a former mercenary, Iolseger grew up in a minor Hold quite far north in the Northern Continent. With one older sibling and seven younger, it was quite the busy family, and as one of the oldest, he was often tasked with wrangling the younger ones. He enjoyed a good, carefree youth in a family full of love for one another, and ultimately decided to follow in his father's footsteps and take up baking. He went off to Cooking Hall at 16, and became a Journeyman at 21. He drifted a bit for awhile, looking for somewhere to settle permanently but never finding quite the right fit, before he was Searched to Western.
He didn't really expect much to come of it - though one of his younger brothers had Impressed some Turns before at High Reaches - and so he was quite surprised when at his very first Hatching a heavyset brown hatchling who'd been nosing through the Candidates, checking in on several from the Touching, introduced himself and asked to please be fed if it wouldn't be too much trouble. He also handed off the piece of shell he'd been carrying in his mouth for safekeeping.
The pair were easy students and classmates to have, and made it through their Weyrling training with only minor incidents, like some impressively botched landings while learning to fly. After graduation, they decided to stay - Hamath was happiest around other dragons, after all, and Iolseger figured Western was as good a place to settle as any. Since Thread's return, they've both earned their fair share of scars, and while they may never enjoy fighting, they'll never back down from defense of their home.
