Zae nodded, curious at the change of expression that crossed Bion's features. This was a different perspective entirely. Normally it was rainbow eyes filled with adoration- but this was incredulity. Eagerness. Happiness. Bionden had finally succeeded.

Zae was happy for her. She was. But she also felt slightly faint. Klah, and maybe a sweetroll or some other food... She didn't feel the needle dig into her thigh, but she was glad when the healer stepped aside. It was nice to watch Bionden walk away with her partner. It was good to watch the new partners bond, even if she couldn't be amongst them...

"Can I stand?" Zae murmured to the healer, who returned her steady gaze with furrowed brows.

"I wouldn't risk it. You need to come to the infirmary afterwards. There's muscle damage."

Muscle damage. No.

"It didn't feel bad..." Zae started, but she tried to think back to the event.

Well... It was best to try and stay positive.

Ara | Western | she/her

After the flurry of Impressions it seemed that the hatching was winding down, and Ara looked around at the other candidates still on the sands. Some had gathered together in clusters, others stood alone. Ara was one of the latter. She was not a short woman, and furthermore not inclined to put herself forward, so she generally preferred to place herself toward the rear, where she would neither obstruct anyone's view nor call undue attention to herself. Should a dragon want to find her, she was told that it would not matter where she was, and so she stood out of the way, surveying the events and doing her best to set all of the details in her memory while shifting from foot to toasted foot. There wouldn't be too much more to see, she supposed, with only the one green to keep track of for the moment.

Easily distracted as ever, she had managed to forget about the sulking bronze while watching the blues, greens, and even white find their bonds. It wasn't anything personal: he was hugely handsome and probably much smarter than Ara herself, but she knew he was not for her, and she had the feeling that whatever young man Impressed him would not be someone she ever interacted with again, if she had ever done so before. She did not fail to notice, however, that the majority of candidates to Impress were young men and women who had been in candidate lessons with her at Western. She did not follow that thought through, and try to guess how the High Reaches candidates might feel about that. She was just happy for them. It was exciting to be able to say that she had known so many dragonriders, even though her family wouldn't want to hear about it and none of her friends at the Weyr would be all that interested, since they were in the same position.

Elibrie - she/her

"So comfortable," she echoed her sister, basking in the sight of their friend from the Touching, and in the waves of relaxation her shared with them even now. He was so bright, and beautiful, and perfect... But those thoughts - thoughts she shouldn't have been allowing herself anyway - were interrupted by an egg asking for help. Rule-abiding as she was, there wasn't a chance she'd go over, though a part of her did feel bad for that. If it truly needed help the parents would be able to provide it.

"No arguments here." If Juhvek had gone, she might have been a tiny bit tempted, bit even then...no. Really, no. She did watch with bated breath as some Candidates rolled the egg - she flinched at that - before Khamaith helped to open the shell for the tiny white who then emerged. By the time she turned her attention back to the cozy blue, he had turned rainbow eyes to...someone.

Oh. Of course. She couldn't honestly say she was surprised, and as she fretted at her lower lip, she squashed down the tendrils of jealousy and disappointment that sought to wrap around her heart. There was no world in which he had ever been for her, and she knew it, had well known better than to even think it. If her heart hurt now, it was no one's fault but her own.

Silly, stupid girl.

Kadosse

There had been a whole hub-bub as one of the long-still eggs finally moved...and nothing more. Rather, there was no cracking, no breaking, nothing but a call for some assistance that came from both candidates and Khamaith. She'd seen the whites, she'd known they often struggled to hatch, but....

Kadosse had still not expected the little one to come from that egg would be a white on his own right. Even as a hatchling he was so....small and she couldn't help but awe over that a little bit. And even as he went on to impress, so had many other baby dragons.

There were very few now. Was this when most people would have felt desperate?

-----

Papys

He'd definitely been helping with baby Black and Rainbow Swirl shenanigans and not been late to it. Except as with all things related to Papys, he'd ultimately not exactly been the most helpful.

But the white from inside the egg had been rather insistent on his next course of action. "Well isn't that grand!" he beamed, obviously pleased for everything that had come to pass.

Rykin

So many impressions! Rykin watched in growing delight as dragon after dragon found theirs, the last being a tiny white who emerged from a comparatively huge egg. But there were still some babies who hadn't chosen, and even one or two who hadn't hatched at all. Still so much to see.

Brenley

"He seems to be," Bren affirmed, following the new white and rider with his eyes. He hadn't been present at the hatching with the punching, but this egg liberation appeared much more civil than the spectacle he'd imagined in his head. "I wish them well."

Turning back to the sands, he did a quick count of the remaining hatchlings and eggs. Five potential pairings to go. Stealth, shy, two unknowns, and that bronze. The little metallic must have been starving by now.

"I never did pry, but were candidates beating that High Reaches egg because other dragons ignore whites there? Khamaith took care of things just fine, and no one had to raise a fist."

Oranie

She watched as Khamaith finally used her claws to gently scour the tough eggshell, allowing the smallest dragon she'd ever seen to pop free... and promptly scuttle after a girl who had stepped forth to aid him at his request. That was enough to bring a smile to her face before her eyes wandered back to the blue, and....

Oranie couldn't help her own feelings of disappointment that suddenly welled up, and she let them go with a slow, soft exhalation. A glance at Elibrie confirmed everything she'd thought, and she offered a very quiet squeeze.

It was okay. She was feeling the same way.

R'thell & green Triesteth
The plump little green made short work of the food offered her, though R'thell certainly tried to make her chew, as well as slow down. He could feel how voracious her appetite was, and could hardly blame her for inhaling the food. "I promise there will be more, even if you finish this bucket fully!" He assured, his smile so broad, so wide, he was certain his face would split in two.

She was perfection and he could hardly tear his eyes off her. Even though he worried about her wing--having it bandaged like so against her side, held in place so tight she would be unable to move it--the little green had all but forgotten about her current state thanks to the copious numbweed they'd slathered upon her. And everything else about her was absolutely fine. Her pale green hide blended perfectly into darker and even paler colors; there was a beautiful pattern upon her wing, and faint striping along her neck and legs. Everything about her was wonderful, and he could hardly stop staring.

After all this time... she was here. Finally here.

Ah, but there were others at the tables, and a few captured Triesteth's attention, along with his own. Tearing his eyes away from her, he looked up to Zh'gan and gave a small nod. "I think she'll be all right, with time. The healers want to look at it again first thing tomorrow though for a better evaluation. Looks worse than it is, I suspect." He didn't really know just how bad off it was--but the fact it needed to be secured so against her wasn't exactly reassuring. Surely, they would be able to patch it up--wouldn't they? There was a small tinge of renewed worry but Triesteth paused in her gobbling down of the meat, to nuzzle Hers reassuringly.

Please don't worry so I... I'll be all right. It doesn't feel poorly at all, Mine. The little green tried desperately to assure Hers. Nevermind that the only reason it didn't hurt was because she couldn't feel anything on that side.

R'thell found his fears evaporating quickly, even if logic gave him pause. It was easy to feel more than okay now that another being was sharing her own thoughts so easily and so fully.

Triesteth, for her part, did pause as Manahahtath spoke to her, to croon softly at him as well. How gracious he was to have remembered--and to offer, especially when it was all her own fault. No wonder her sister had wanted his attention to herself. He was quite the gentleman and certainly deserved great things. And who was greater among them than their own illustrious golden sister? It made complete sense to Tiresteth on why everything came to pass and she held no ill will.

Oh! You are too generous and too good, thank you! I am certain I will be well, truly. I'm glad you were able to find Yours, and so perfect a match. Oh, the little green was truly, genuinely thrilled for each of their clutchmates. Kahveth's was certainly a handsome boy... and Alenciath had found the most perfect girl! Oh, she so badly wished to fawn over all of them. ... but there was food to eat, and room to make for the others on their way.

Look! Even more have found Theirs, too. She exclaimed in simple pleasure--as if this was not the expected outcome.

Ilaorunth's kindnesses were returned tenfold by the little sweet green. Had she known the trouble she was causing, she would have well been devastated--but thankfully, she was completely unaware. You are far too kind to me. Do think nothing more about it.

Nashwa's nod was returned with a smile and nod from R'thell. While he recognized some of the faces--Fahn was one he didn't know at all, though her Candidate knots easily pegged her as one from High Reaches--he was more than happy to make friends. They would all be getting to know one another extra well while their dragons grew. "I'm R'thell now," he confessed, testing the name on his tongue. He could have gone with a few choices, but this one felt most true. A new name, for a new rider. "It's going to take some getting used to though," he admitted.

In a graceful, deliberate move that read like dancing, the Purple and Teal Swirl tapped on her egg, freeing herself from it in one fell swoop. The slinky green preened egg goop from her body, turning to glance at the assembled Candidates. Hello world! she crooned, spreading her wings to display their beauty. She was well aware that the crowd was watching.

Fahn and Alenciath

Swish swish. Swish swish. Alenciath's tail was like a whip, cracking back and forth across the ground as piece after piece of food was offered into that eagerly waiting mouth with another always ready to come when she asked for the next. Fahn had been careful in her preparation, after all, and it wasn't as though the pieces in each bucket had been particularly big to start with. Not like having to break down a full herdbeast.

And each morsel just made her dragon - Shards, her dragon - happier and happier. The ceiling for joy was impossibly high and the foundation didn't seem to go any lower. Fahn had known joy. Whatever she felt with Alenciath? There was no word she knew. Nothing strong enough, right enough. Nothing could encompass what she was.

Hungry! Alenciath suggested and Fahn howled with laughter. "That's not the kind of word I was looking for," she answered, but it had been said so frankly and was still true enough that it tickled her right in her core. Fahn, despite her wet, meaty hands, cupped Alenciath's cheeks to kiss her forehead again. It wasn't like either of them were particularly clean to start with.

"Mmm, tastes like egg-goop," Fahn commented out loud. She'd wash that off here in a few minutes, but first there was more food to come.

And it seemed the young man who had impressed the injured green had made his way to the table with her at last. "How's she doing?" Fahn asked, leaning over to peer at Triesteth.

It's been a party since even before, it just got better because you showed up! Alenciath corrected Ilaorunth with sweet, unjudging words, You brought the party to the next level! because hadn't she deserved to enjoy an existing party rather than have to make it one?

As for Manahahtath's statement to her speed... We can race after food! she suggested delightedly. "You're getting a bath after food," Fahn corrected. Alenciath considered this. After the bath, then! Fahn wouldn't correct that there were still yet more plans right after the bath as well.

Juhvek

He could hear the disappointment in their voices - and he felt dumb for not having noticed how hopeful Oranie and Elibrie had been about the Blue from the Sunset egg. But he couldn't change what had happened just as they couldn't have just magically changed who the dragon was so he could have been theirs.

It was practical, but Juhvek had always let practical dictate his life. It wasn't helpful - not always.

"There are still more dragons," Juhvek tried to redirect, and even as he spoke another egg hatched into another, beautiful green. "She's lovely too," not that it comforted disappointment.

Finnisa—High Reaches—She/Her
Things were winding down now, but there were still a few hatchlings on the sands, and one or two eggs left to—crack! Alright, so there was one less egg now. Finn looked on as the newly hatched green began to preen and primp herself. That seemed fair enough, all the egg goop would probably make sand stick to her otherwise, and that'd most likely end up itchy for the fresh-skinned babies. And it was her big day after all, no reason not to take the time to look her best.

She paused to look around at the others still roaming, the other green, the brown, even the bronze was afforded a regarding look-over. That one especially had been waiting an awfully long time... hopefully he'd pick soon. The poor thing must be hungry. She was looking forward to the feast herself, and found her mind straying to thoughts of roast fish and steamed vegetables, and all sorts of tasty things. Her stomach rumbled, and she moved a hand to cover and muffle it, wincing as the wound across the back tugged slightly. Okay, so she'd get that cared for first, before eating. Unless, of course, one of the hatchlings still here was for her... then she'd tend them first, her hand second, and then the feast.

Josen

"Looks like that ended well!" Josen watched as the little white went scrambling after one of the girls that had helped with his egg, entreating her with rainbow eyes. One more impression made amongst them all. But Josen didn't actually feel any desperation of being left behind in any of it. Sure, he was being left out of something wonderful, but...

it didn't sting, exactly.

And another egg hatched soon enough to sweep away such a feeling if it had been there anyways. "Another green! She's lovely!"

Serrekhar

"Phew." He grunted... and internally died a little at the small white that popped forth. That was the teeniest dragon he'd ever seen! "Oh geez." He muttered, his eyes glued as he scampered across the sands after... Yeah, that was definitely the girl he wanted. Maybe. Serrekhar thought he was getting better at recognizing that, but who knew.

"She's real cute!" Serrekhar agreed, pausing to admire the green that spread her wings as though waiting for her audience's admiration.

Loctius - [He/Him] - Western Weyr
There was something so achingly sweet about watching the little white dragon impress - no less to someone who helped him from his shell. There was no more need to worry when he had someone carrying him off the sands with a gaze so full of love.

Oh this was one of the eggs who had him dancing when he touched her shell! Loctius was more than a bit delighted to see the elegant, musical display. A true charmer it seemed!
