With that bit of drama behind them, Kalkiath and Ahlalei settled into the formation and found...no Thread to flame. It was odd, disconcerting, and neither were going to look the gift in the mouth. Ahlalei took the time to check straps, and breath. Kalikath kept vigilant watch.

Round 1 roll 10: Nothing to flame quite yet, which is almost a miracle in this sort of Threadfall. Still, you're able to relax a moment, look around, and take note of your airspace. All's well... for now.

They just had to hold on just a little longer and soon they would be able to shift to a lower altitude in which D’mos hoped the wind and onslaught of thread would be easier to deal with. Looking up the bronzerider noticed a large grouping of silvery mass making their way closer to them.

”Phaeth above us.” The bronze shifted against the wind before blowing out a river of flames.

Wounded as they were at least they were better off than some of their wingmates that they'd seen disappearing from the formation, something that was currently stressing out Alythrae as she thought about her husband and kids in the air on all levels. Hopefully they were faring a bit better than the pair were so far but at least Tarmath had rallied once again and was doing well. Thread was coming from all sides but the ferocious green was burning it before it could so much as get within a foot of them, her wings and the muscles in her broad back adjusting and twisting to keep them airborne and in formation.

It was in that state that she saw a little blue dragon about to head towards a heavy patch of thread just before them all and a shiver ran down her spine. Something was dangerous, it was far too much and there was a threat, so the big green roared as loud as she could, throwing her thoughts so that he knew what he was about to fly into. Luckily he heard her, or rather listened to her warning if nothing else, and flew out of the way before it could eat him alive. Slowly the knot in her stomach eased as the wave was flamed down behind her by another wingmate who wouldn't run the risk of dying. Aly's eyes showed their horror but there was far too much to do and there was far too much pain for her to consider anything other than what was directly around her.

Thank goodness she had Tarmath...

A sigh passed from him as numbweed was spread over his back for the wounds, it felt much better than it had before, but he had a job to do and there were members of his wing that were in trouble. Nodding to A'dras as he went to leave, D'ast pulled himself up from the table and pulled on his gear stiffly and slowly. It was going to be a long battle with this much damage right at the beginning but he had suffered far worse things in the past and would suffer through it to keep his family as safe as he could. His daughter was still up there...

Sliding back into the straps on his dragon, the rider slid a hand over Zetigeth's shoulder and braced himself for the brown to shift upwards and move to where he could take off, eyes blue again for the time being. Together? the brown sent to him.

Chuckling gently he ran his hand up his shoulder once more, worried about the pulled muscle still even though the thread damage had been eased. "Together."

Instantly they leaped and beat a path up high enough to pop Between into the cold, relishing the feeling for a few breaths as the lack of any sound or sight eased them before they erupted into a gust of wind that blew them straight into a cloud of Thread. A scream pulled from the brown as it bit into his side and the popped between once more to crack it off, dejected for the instant failure despite themselves. Hopping back to a clear spot that was close to their formation, Zetigeth flamed the spot in as round a circle as he could, throwing his head and flame around in every direction as he moved back to where he should be, narrowly avoiding flame from one of their wingmates in the process.

Having only just managed to help a wingmate avoid they were tossed by the winds off course and tried to Between back into it, only to appear in a cloud. The Thread tore into them both and Aly only just protected her face by throwing her hands and arms in front of them in an attempt to make her jacket do some work. Luckily it kept the searing from her face and eyes but she felt buffeting her and digging into her jacket. With an image tossed to Tarmath they Betweened once more, blood and ichor running everywhere from wounds burned into them all over and when they came back out the big green struggled to keep them aloft, three hearts beating in pain as breath came roughly.

"Tarmath! We have to..." Wind blew them off course once more towards another thread cloud and her words were lost as they popped between once more.

Having just flamed everything around them there was a break in the blowing Threads for a moment as D'ast and Zetigeth found themselves back in formation and ready once more. It gave them a chance to take a breath, a chance to survey everything around them. They were taking damage, lots of it, but their wing had trained well and were holding together, it filled him with pride.

Popping back from Between the pair heaved in pain but flame shot from the red eyed green instantly, hoping to keep thread from hitting them again as the pain she felt herself was intensified by the burning pain she felt coming from her rider as well. Aly was just barely holding on, her breath coming in heaving gasps that shook her thin frame and left her hanging onto her dragon without the opportunity to do much else. Tarmath had to keep her safe and the thought to return to the Weyr didn't even pass through her mind, not that her rider to ease it in there either in her state of excruciating pain. She had tried, was still trying to articulate it though, but the green wasn't listening. All that she could think to do was burn a hole in the thread around them in an attempt to give them the space they needed to take a breath.

Spinning and twisting through the air, Zetigeth was able to avoid the sheets of thread that were falling towards him, avoiding any damage even if he missed flaming it. Turning back to glance at the wingmate behind them in the formation D'ast heaved a sigh of relief that they managed to get it before any damage could be done to them as well. Despite the winds there was some rhythm there at least, it was coming back.

Pain shot through her legs as thread caught her once more even despite Tarmath's attempts to clear them a path. Tears started to roll down Aly's face and she bit back a scream of pain as they whirled and flamed all the same. They had to keep going, had to keep fighting, Tarmath's will pushed over her own pain and she wiped the tears from her eyes with her jacket and grit her teeth together roughly.

Twirling through an empty spot, Zetigeth flamed thread to both sides of him and aimed for a thread clump heading towards...

Ashlyn!! Zetigeth roared and flamed the clump headed square for her, shifting his bulk so that he could flame everything that threatened to hit Gyafrith and his rider. To the little brown he was just as important as his rider, who he viewed as his own daughter in a way thanks to his rider. D'ast cast a look at his daughter, worry plastered over his face in the process. We've got you, keep fighting!

Twisting back into formation once more, the dragon and his rider heaved a sigh of relief that the girl and her dragon were saved, that could have been much worse than it was. Still it worried him to no end that she was up there with him and likely always would, it was always the high altitude wings where he felt the most stress for his family. Though he and Zetigeth often disagreed on the level of damage the dragon was willing to take, they were both in agreement that they would rather die than lose Ashlyn or her dragon.

Ashlyn and Gyafrith will be flying first wave

Ashlyn knew Gyafrith was tired and trying to stay up with their Wing. She sent what encouraging thoughts she could to him, wishing there was more she could do to help him. It seemed like they were not the only ones having issues, as she saw a few members of their Wing having to pop between and head towards the Weyr. One of those, much to her horror, was her own father and that worried her. Thankfully, A'dras and their father was soon back in the fight.

See, everything will be alright, Mine,Gyafrith assured. Unfortunately, the blue spoke too soon as they both saw a huge piece of thread headed their way. Gyafrith was tired, but he was not going to let harm come to his rider. It seemed as the wind shifted it into their direction, he wasn't the only one with this thought. A familiar brown came into view and blasted the thread into ash, before it could hurt either of them.

Please tell Papa and Zetigeth thank you, dear one. Also, make sure they are fine,Ashlyn thought to her dragon.

AshlynMine and I would like to thank both of you. Also, see how you both are doing after that injury,Gyafrith thought to Zetigeth.

1) 15. Your dragon is blown completely out of formation, and is too tired to stop it. Fellow wingriders notice, and trumpet warning, but your dragon is just too tired to care. The wind is too much! Moderate Damage -5HP Your dragon also now suffers Fatigue Effect For the next 3 rolled turns your dragon will suffer from Fatigue Effect. Any XP earned during those turns is negated. On the plus side, any negative status effect (i.e. additional Fatigue Effect, Guilt, Bitten Tongue, etc.) is also negated, since your dragon is too tired to care. The only exception is if you get a status that cures Fatigue or your Wingleader/Wingsecond rolls a status cancelling roll.)

Shaking in her straps, Aly looked up and saw a cloud of thread coming towards them just as wind caught Tarmath's wings and tossed them towards it. Casting an image of a clear spot to her dragon they hopped Between to avoid it but once more appeared in a cloud of thread thanks to the shifting winds. It was too late, it was too much, they were too wounded... Pain flashing through her, thread eating at her jacket and her dragon and everything it could reach, Alythrae felt her dragon's strength finally leave as her mind went blank, there was no longer a connection there.

Thanks to the wind they stayed in place for a moment or two, but before she knew it Tarmath was falling, thread eating at them both still thanks to being unable to hop between, burrows digging into the dragon and eating through her jacket to her arms and torso. Wind whipped past her, ripping at the straps as she held to her fearless dragon, tears of pain and grief running down her face for the big beast's stubborness that had kept them in the air far longer than they should have been. There was little hope in her mind that a queen would catch them before the Threads ate them alive, but she could still wish, still cling onto that one last shred of hope that their wonderful golds might catch them. Might save them so she could say goodbye to her children.

"Please..." The wind ripped her words away from her and it was useless, "Please help!" Aly screamed nonetheless, burying her face in Tarmath's neck as they picked up speed from their fall.

Was this really the end?

The green's cheerful gratitude for the new bag of firestone had done wonders for sothing over the sting over being hit by Thread, and he had hummed and sent back a wordless acknowledgement of it, full of eagerness and happy-to-help. And then someone else needed firestone! How convenient that he was already up here! Menankith winged away to the next rider in need so that his could toss up a bag, and then dove down to return to formation.

Uh-oh! On the way back down from their firestone run, they spotted a stray clump of Thread and he twisted to flame it, a maneuver that threw Nadry against the straps. Which had...maybe possibly come a little loose. She made a quick adjustment, grateful that it had happened where maybe, probably, no one had seen that.
