Himheco petted the girl's head,her hand cold but almost went through her. "I didn't rad your thoughts,just memories and what happened. I never do that without letting them go through my mind first." She said and smiled a bit.

Katalina's face brightened. "Good," she said briskly. "If we're going to be ghosts, we have to be careful, though. Humans aren't very scared of other humans, and mermaids aren't...really scary."
But the light behind her eyes didn't fade. "Okay. I'll start watching for boats. And I'll be careful."
She let go of the side of the boat to sink slowly, up to her chin in the water.
"They won't catch me," she assured him cheerfully.

'I hope not. If she's caught there will be BIIIIIIG trouble. So I'll just have to make sure that she isn't. Though, she avoided me for so long that I don't think I have anything to worry about.' Joshua thought to himself. Suddenly, he remembered why he'd come out today. With all that had happened, he hadn't had a chance to check on the coral yet. "I need to look at the coral. Want to come?" While waiting for an answer, Joshua began gathering up all his scuba gear.

Aries closed her eyes and wrinkled her nose. She felt like she was being treated like a pet. "Why did you do that, though? I didn't even understand what I saw."

Rosalina walked along the shore her soft skirt swishing against her ankles. She gazed out at the water, her eyes holding a look of wonder and wishing. She stopped letting the water lick at her bare feet. The breeze played with her brown locks.

Himheco lied down there in the water and just shrugged. "Only your inner soul decides what you see if someone is in your mind....really I just saw old memories to see if I could trust you. If you've been through what I went through,you would to..." She said her voice still having that echo,really she felt silly petting people but she always would mess around with them when she did.

Katalina swished her tail in the water, amusing herself by making it frothy. "Yeah, okay," she said agreeably. Glancing at Marie, she asked, "Did she ever have a problem with the propellers of your boat? Why do you have to look at the coral, anyway?"
Random to some, perhaps, but the progression from point A to point B made perfect sense in Katalina's mind.

Joshua paused in the progress of settling his tank on his back. He looked at Katalina, wondering at the randomness of her questions. "No, Marie's smart enough to not get caught. There've been times when I was worried that she might get caught but she never has. I think she enjoys messing with me." He smiled at the dolphin, frolicking in the frothy waves from Katalina's tail.
"And I'm looking at the coral because I want to understand it. It confuses me." A confused look overcame Joshua's face as he explained. "It's alive, yet it isn't. It acts like a rock as well as a plant all at the same time." He shook his head, then placed the mask over his face. Sitting on the side of the small boat, Joshua flipped over the edge and into the water.

Katalina flopped over to loll in the waves, floating on her back, which evoked rather disturbing images of dead fish. Comfortably, she said, "She's smarter than me, then. I've been caught in propellers a couple of times." She added thoughtfully as she followed him under, "It really hurt."
She swam circles around Joshua as she spoke, keeping one eye out for the glint of glass. It was just a habit by now, to inspect the ground everywhere she went in the hopes of finding a nice piece of storm glass - she was still looking for purple, and red was proving similarly elusive.
"So why do you want to understand it?" she asked. "As long as it understands what it's doing, that's what matters, right?"

Joshua shrugged. When he spoke, his voice came through the mini-speakers on his mask. "I guess I'm just curious. I want to know how and why things work." 'When they're alive that is.' He thought to himself. Kicking, he made his way over to the reefs just ahead of them. With a small smile, Joshua poked at the reef. Pulling out a measuring tape from his belt, Joshua proceeded to make note of how much the reefs had grown since last time.

Katalina watched what he was doing, still looking a little bemused. Gently petting a bit of purplish coral, she tried to understand exactly what was driving him. She was curious about things too, sure, but they were always living things. Things she could interact with. Coral was just...something pretty that grew. It had fish in it that she could swim with.
Quickly growing bored with watching Joshua, she floated off to look for fish.

Joshua glanced up as Katalina drifted away. 'She's like a small child at times.' He thought. Still, he had work to do. Giving a kick, Joshua moved to a different part of the coral and began again. This process was repeated at several points around the reef. Finished, he tucked the tape measure away. Joshua looked around for Katalina, wondering how far she'd gotten. Seeing a small school of fish, he thought, 'I wonder if she can talk to fish....'
