"Oh, nothing. I was just caught off guard." She said to Alex. Then she looked at the girl again. "I've never seen you around here before. Do you live here? What's your name, by the way?"

Katalina, blissfully unaware of Joshua's internal judgement of her, floated upright amid a school of brightly coloured fish. They darted happily around her, one or two taking refuge in her hair before swimming out again.
She spread her fingers apart so that the fish could swim around them, giggling as they did so.
They're so friendly today, she thought brightly.

"No I live quite a bit aways,and I'm Himheco.." She said nodding and looked to alex with a wave.

Joshua smiled, watching Katalina play with the fish. He swam a little closer, hoping to not startle the fish. It was fascinating to watch their interactions with the mermaid. Letting the current gentle pull him towards the them, Joshua tried to stay still. Maybe if he didn't make any sudden moves, the fish would stay. He devoutly hoped so. This particular species was common to the reefs, but they had always stayed away from any humans. He knew it wasn't just him because before he left home, others had told him the same thing.

Katalina glanced up when she heard a little swish of water out of place. She waved as Joshua approached them, then curled herself into a ball so that the fish gathered near her face. She burbled at them for a few minutes, then pointed to Joshua, still burbling.
Although most of the fish continued darting and swimming around her, a few of the more adventurous ones made their cautious way towards Joshua, keeping a goodly distance just in case.

"Why thank you...I would show you my home but its too far and you probably want to stay here,so...you two a couple I suppose?" She said looking at the two of them and how they were alone.

Himheco laughs and smiled,"I swear I'm watching a human chick flick just looking at y'all..." She joked.

Joshua stared in wonder as some of the fish ventured near him. Slowly, not wanting to startle them, he stretched out one hand. His fingertips just brushed the side of one. The fish jumped back, but didn't swim away. A smile lit Joshua's face. This was the first time he'd gotten so close to them. The other fish, reassured that the one he'd touched wasn't hurt, came even closer. Soon he had a small handful of the bright fish darting around his own body.

Giggling, Katalina drifted closer. The more timid fish followed her, until at last the two parts of the school were rejoined, darting around and between herself and Joshua. "Aren't they pretty?" she asked Joshua, following the flashes of colour with her eyes. "I like them. What do humans call them?"
