Ash'il was glad to finally be back on track, feeding his dragon the firestone he was brought. He noticed a small clump of thread, which he pointed out to his bronze dragon.

I am on it, Mine. Just watch,Iptoneth replied back. Unfortunately, just as he headed over to it, the wind switched direction. As it comes in their direction, he betweened as quickly as he could to avoid it. He managed to get away, but wasn't quick enough to not take some damage. He winced in pain, but once they popped back into, he assured his rider he would be fine. Just a few light Thread burns, he could handle it.

Round 1 (first five rolls)
1) 4. You're low on firestone! If you've already replenished recently (within the last 5 posts) you may choose to skip this roll and just do a general post for no XP. The two had buckled back down, Aniela ignoring the pain in her leg as they twisted and twined about. They had quite a bit to do. Thread was everywhere up this high, and she stuck close to her wingmates. Xaph belched flame left and right, but ah. She needed to clear a path. The dragon blew forth a large gust, clearing a wide path.

The two flashed from Between, only for Brieteth to let out a startled cheep. The mostly clear area was no longer such, and there was thread being blown about everywhere!

E'mel, with a clear head, popped the two away again, only to end up near a completely different clump. It barely grazed his blue's side before the two of them hopped again, back towards safety!

I'm sorry! Are you okay?

I'm sorry too.....I should have been more careful..

"No," Dr'stan said aloud, "He is not ready to fight again, not yet. I want him here under observation until the next wave. He needs tending, and I need to make sure those stitches will hold." The healer's expression was concerned, and he changed his focus from dragon to rider. "Your responsibility will be to ensure that he doesn't break those stitches. This is very important. If he does, he'll need this done again."

He'd noted the exchange between riders, and he didn't have time to be anything but brusque, leaving the reassurance to A'ye. "The numbweed will need to be applied again in about an hour, just to ensure he isn't distracted by pain. As for the eye... it should heal up fine. He only scratched it. You just need to make sure that it's healing, and for that... come to me. I've dealt with such injuries before." Back when he'd been a failed Candidate and a fulltime dragonhealer.

Your rider must be so clever, to do so much with so little training, Cynosuth told the Bronze. Oh! I don't need a herdbeast, but maybe... maybe a little caprine? she asked, peering up at him. Wow! What a genuinely nice dragon! I'm only a very small Green, after all. He wanted to fight, but Hers had said no. She hoped he wouldn't mind too much.

You're really doing quite well with that, Cordrath, M'nr praised as his bronze continued to navigate about the clumps of thread. Perhaps not as dexterous as the blues and greens of their wing, but a little dexterity for a bronze was nothing to be disappointed in.

The less his lifemate got hit, the better! Cordrath rumbled in agreement.

As Mharlith flamed Nim was still trying to keep an eye on the rest of her wing and her wing leader should he try and signal her for any reason. It pained her when she saw any of them taking a score but she also had to focus on not ending up in a fresh clump of thread herself.

Nearby Thella popped back from between, rejoining the wing. Nimueh would not admit it but she did have a soft spot for the women, being a fellow female brown rider made them part of select club. As she looked over the lovely Lireloth she noted the brown was shaking his tail and the burn attached to it. Not the worst injury but with a gentle touch Mharlith reached out to his brown brother.

A mind healer knew that ones own thoughts were a powerful thing, able to effect the body more than most realized and Mharlith knew how to calm the mind. With subtle waves of soothing connection.
Don't be distracted now brother, you are doing the wing proud. Your pain is just proof of your fight, don't try and block it out, accept it and move on.

Mharlith suggested, easier said than done, his own face still stung in sympathy for Nim's ash burns. But putting focus into trying to block the pain just made you more aware of it.

Mharlith turned his head to flame again but as he did a great gale knocked them side ways into a falling rain of thread which burned stright through his fine wing membrane. Both rider and dragon winced and flashed between.

2/5: Trying valiantly to catch some thread, your dragon flames a bit sooner than you would have preferred. Surprisingly enough, the flame is long, hot, and sustained longer than usual. Your dragon manages to flame the clump and return to their position in their wing. [+1 Flame Length]
3/5:Your dragon flames a small strand of thread, but unfortunately, a gust of wind blows the ash back into you. Tarmath needs help!

The cry went out loudly, and both Eveleth and Fianth looked up.

Fianth, catch her! We will assist! Eveleth commanded her daughter, as both queen's left formation.
Be on the ready, ladies! Tarmath's coming down hard and fast! The senior queen spoke to all the golds in their Wing. Catching a dragon wasn't always easy, and it it could require the aid of all in the wing depending on how hard they hit, or if they rolled.

With luck, between the two of them, they would not need the net of queen's beneath them.

Fianth, for her part, was only focused on the flying form. She flew high and fast, stretching her wings, and blowing right past the Weyrlings. "Easy, Fianth! You gotta stay low!" Olliah reminded her queen, feeling the gold's anxiety, fear, and worry. If they went any higher, they could well fly into a patch of Threadfall, and be fast in trouble.

Still, the queen continued to fly up, steadying herself beneath Tarmath's fall. Do not fear.... She spoke to the rider and dragon, trying to spread calm. We are here. We will catch you. Now, to fly under the dragon, to catch them without them hurting themselves, or sliding off....

Thankfully, Eveleth was close behind, and unneeded.

Though Tarmath was coming down hard and fast -- and was still getting chewed up by Thread! -- Fianath did her duty with ease. She was able to successfully line up beneath the injured, slipping beneath them, and cradling them well on her shoulders and back. They cam down hard, but she had made the catch as smoothe as could have been hoped.

Given the queen could feel the Thread writhing, she wasted no time. Even as the Threads began to eat into her back, and shoulders, as soon as she was certain the dragon would not fall off, within a breath, she was gone.

One...

Two...

Three...

She appeared low in the Bowl, perhaps lower than she should have, but time was of the essence. That dragon needed off!. "Can you get out of your straps? Are you injured!? We can fix this, we can save Tarmath," Olliah had removed her own straps, crawling back towards Aly to aid. As soon as the rider was clear of her straps, Fianth could get the dragon off, without injuring their rider.

All will be well. You will be well. Do not fear. We are here. We will help you. She spoke gently, quietly, lovingly to the dragon, and a bit more softly, to their rider -- whether he could hear -- sending out as much calm and care as she could muster.

Quote:
Your gold makes the catch successfully! It goes relatively smoothly, and you're only too happy to deliver them back to the Weyr. Unfortunately, somewhere during the trip, the dragon's claws wind up cutting into your queen's back. Ouch! Minor Damage -2

Staying in formation and flaming Thread everywhere they looked, Gareth was suddenly buffeted hard by the wind. It was hard enough for the large bronze to dodge any of the clumps and swaths if they got to heavy, having to focus on flaming them only.

Gareth! A'dras voice rang out through their bond and the bronze moved to dodge a piece of Thread, getting caught by the wind just right under his wingsail. Gareth strained and fought the wind to stay in formation, a frustrated hiss escaping although that turned to a quick hiss of pain. A'dras mirrored the sound his dragon made, his right hand moving up to his left shoulder, the same one that had been hit with Thread. While the numbweed had worked on that particular injury he could feel the shared pain that was coming from deep in their muscle.

The large wedge head was shaken as they straightened out, Gareth pushing on and eventually the sore died down to a low ache.

With the pain in their shoulder to a dull ache, Gareth focused back on the fight at hand. A'dras threw a piece of Firestone to him, the dragon catching it easily and chewing before his head whipped back around, maw opened wide, fire belching forth. The bronze had such determination, it was harder to fight the wind up in the higher altitudes but they were doing great, there was so much of the enemy to destroy up here.

Confidence and pride filled his hearts as he let out a bellow of rage at the enemy as it turned to crackdust before him. This was how they fought Thread! This was why dragons were needed and they found their bonded to destroy the enemy!

Watch it!

Gareth was quick on the uptake as the warning came to him. His flame had just died down and he was loudly chewing a new piece of firestone when A'drs noted a piece of Thread before them. It was a larger clump that was being blow right at them. The man was sure they would end up getting hit. There was no way his large bronze would be able to get away from all of that.

The man was happily surprised when Gareth suddenly turned to his side, one wing tucked into his body while the other was pointed straight down. A'dras held on tightly as everything turned on it's side and then, once the danger had passed, they were straightened out again. He had to give a hearty slap onto the bronze's hide, laughter ringing through their bond.

Round 1
Rolls 1-5
[1]The wind picks up, and you fight to keep in formation. Your wings strain, but you're able to keep your place! Though your muscles ache, you're not going to give up so easily. Pern depends on you! +2 Stamina
[2] You take a direct hit from Thread! The question is, where!? Roll a D4. D4: Thread hits your leg and side, as well as your dragon's back and shoulders. Though you immediately jump between, some of the Thread is partially protected by your riding gear. As you return from its cold, and continue on the fight, it takes a moment to realize the wriggling Thread has eaten through your clothes, and is starting to burrow into you!!! GET BACK BETWEEN AND BACK TO THE WEYR TO BE DUCKED! Major Damage: -12 HP Your next post must be with the healers so you can get ducked into the pools, in hopes of drowning the borrowing Thread. Death is also an option
[3]The healer looks at your wound and gives a shake of their head. The prognosis doesn't look good, but they're determined to patch you up as best they can! Return Request Denied! Regain +5 HP but re-roll from the Healers Grid! You still haven't been given clearance to return
[4]The healer looks at your wound and starts trying to patch you up. They're not being particularly gentle on you, but you can tell they're quite invested in making sure your wound (or your dragons) heals right! Unfortunately, that's going to take some time. Return Request Denied! Regain +5 HP but re-roll from the Healers Grid! You still haven't been given clearance to return!
[5]5-7. The healer looks at your wound and starts trying to patch you up. Wingleader Chance Rolls
[1]5-7. If a Wingleader, you were so focused on chewing out one of your wingriders who pulled a stupid move, that you actually miss catching a large clump of Thread that's falling right past you. A nearby wingmate winds up taking the hit -- as they were busy flaming a different clump of Thread and hadn't time to notice. Quote a Single Wingmate and have them lose -5 HP!
    [2]

Rolls 6-10
[6]This is such a mess! Thread is everywhere. The High Altitude Wing is always in the thick of it, and today is no exception.
If you are a bronze, brown, or blue 30' or larger you find yourself getting hit by the wildly blown Thread! Moderate Damage: -6 HP!

[7]As you fight against a strong gust of wind, you feel something pull! Uh-oh. There's a pain in your wing muscle that hadn't been there before. This isn't good, especially this high up! Still, your dragon fights on
[8]The air is thick with Thread. It's at its heaviest up here, and you are literally surrounded by silver tendrils. You roar defiance before spitting forth a great flame, scorching the deadly threads before you with ease. Flame Length +1
[9]You mange to pull off a quick save with some fancy wing-work! Instead of getting hit by some stray strands, you're able to roll out of harm's way! While you weren't able to catch it, you're certain one of your wingmates will.

Once more attention was focused on all the Thread around them. With the firestone chewed Gareth easily belched out another flame, turning his head this way and that, easily destroying all that was before him.
