Arcadin

Interesting...He hadn't seen an Impression before, and now with multiple dragon shaving found theirs, he was starting to get a small idea as to what that meant. It would have been preferable to less cavorting, though, as he turned his dark thoughts over like cooked meat. That gold had been ambling about so meek and concerned--it revolted him. Perhaps it was an act, a means of false modesty to win sympathy. Or maybe it all really was that sappy--and that was the sort of creature who got to hold a high position over him here? One could only hope that stolid looking woman could at least salvage the pair.

It was then, as Arc watched on in silence still, that he heard a most innocuous suggestions from someone nearby. All 6'7" and more turned briefly to face the other candidate to stare her down with a wordless challenge: Make him move.

Then, dismissing her entirely, he turned his head back to the eggs, arms crossed.

"We might indeed Impress!" Willim grinned at Shanley. She was even more adorable now than she had been before -- something about her feisty fierceness appealed to him. He felt certain that Shanley would Impress an equally fierce dragon, someone strong and brave and worthy of her. For himself, he didn't hope to Impress, at least he didn't hope too hard, so he wouldn't be disappointed if it didn't happen after all.

He watched the whippy brown dragonet Impress a boy, and nodded. Another one down. Returning his attention to the others and to the eggs that had yet to hatch, he gave Shanley's hand a small squeeze and began to concentrate once more on happy, welcoming thoughts, even toward those dragons who seemed a bit more malevolent than the others.

Taibbi

In truth, it was kind of fortunate that Taibbi had not decided she should just start grabbing other candidates and dragging them into position. That sort of behavior was not completely beyond her, and if she hadn't been a self-conscious fifteen year old girl who was sweating profusely, and in the midst of a hatching where misbehaving too badly might lose her the privilege of standing again, she might have actually done it. It definitely crossed her mind when an excessively tall young man leveled a challenging stare at her.

She squinted a glare at him and lifted her chin unapologetically. Her idea was perfectly reasonable. Sure, to someone who wasn't inside her head it might seem as though she planned to take advantage of being on the shorter side of average to place herself nearer the dragons, but she could do that anyway if she so chose. There were no sneaky machinations below her plans, she just felt she had a good idea.

"You could be helpful," she pretended to mutter at him, while not actually lowering her voice at all. "Instead of standing around looking forbidding."

Don't be sorry! Taibbi is undaunted.

Wiggle wiggle wiggle!

Try as they might, it seemed all Firebolt had managed for all their wiggling and wobbling was to push a small piece of their cracked eggshell out of the way, one orange eye peering out with a Hwonk of frustration.

It was with a loud HONK that the shell of Gryffindor split in to pieces, like the hatchling inside had knocked its body as hard as it could against the shell. It was covered in goop, and seemed to be a bit stunned as it rolled in to Expelliarmus, blinking up at his brother as he shook off his hide and honked loudly in greeting. Yeah, that was right world! BROWN GRYFFINDOR WAS HERE! Wasn't he awesome? Just look at him. Stretching like a cat, the Brown couldn't help but prancing in place, eyes whirling blue, oblivious to his angry siblings....for now at least.

Siv

So much-- GHRYFFINDOR WAS OUT HE WAS AS AWESOME AS HE SAID LOTS OF THINGS WERE. Siv couldn't help the dance, foot to foot, grinning ear to ear. What a HANDSOME brown boy! So majestic! So regal and cheerful! It was good to see him out, and hopefully NOT exhausted from hatching. Still, she managed to NOT loudly cheer for the brown.

Barely.

She probably shouldn't be showing favoritism right now. Oops.

Faranie // Watching from the wings

Turn after Turn she had come to the Sands, sometimes as a candidate, filled with the rush of hope and anticipation, even as she aged. But more it seemed as a watcher, as others went on to make Impressions and find their Ones. And as the Turns passed, her hope had dwindled down to next to nothing, though she would never not turn up to one of these momentous occasions. She just had to accept the fact that despite her lineage, her training and her dreams, being a Rider wasn't meant for her.

And to watch as a hatchling was rebuffed, it hurt her. Even if it was just a green, at this moment in time, even a green would be better than nothing at all. But this hatchling had an option that she never had. If they couldn't find Theirs, they could always go Between. Not that she would have ever taken that option even if it had been available to her, but the choice would have been... nice, to have.

Still, her heart was saddened for the poor baby, it reminded her in a way too much of herself. So she would do something she hadn't done since she was first Searched as a candidate. She felt like leaving then. Suiting action to intention, she stood from her place along the outer edge of the sands, making her way closer to the edge and the candidates and hatchlings, though whether it was actually to leave or just some perverse need to be closer to the action and potential heartache, she didn't know.

Roana of Green Ulendoth
Impression Post

Roana had suddenly become rather focused on the troublesome curse dragons roaming the sands, almost cursing aloud when one of the sweeter greens became visibly upset causing her sibling to step in as protector. Idiots looked like they were trying to make things go south. Focus, clear mind, warm and welcoming. It's your first day on pern babies! And everyone is thrilled to see you! In fact she was so drawn to the drama of the sands center stage she barely noticed the head strong green barreling through the female candidates towards them till a spray of sand and a clatter of claws arrived with a flurry and flair at her feet.

It was almost the exact opposite of the steady, purposeful yet guarded approach the gold had preformed on her journey to the group moments earlier.
Roana tried to shield her face as best she could but laughing at the greens antics also meant she was left spluttering sand after. It was an entrance that spoke miles to the bombastic green's personality. It should have given the game away that she was meant for Roana even before the swirl of rainbow colour that confirmed it.

There you are, Roana. Your Ulendoth was looking for you. The Green was careful not to push her claws in as she stretched up to try to tug Roana down to her, eyes whirling a beautiful rainbow of Impression as she spoke, Let's get out of here and go for adventures, for we're the best the weyr could ever have. You and me, we're destined to see all of Pern together.

Roana was stunned to silence and then she fell to her knees before the green helpless, while love for this perfect creature infused her entire being like new blood. A new life force to herald the start of her new life as a rider. At the same moment she recognized the feel of the green's mind. It had been hard to track what dragons had sprung from which eggs after a while but now Roana knew that Ulendoth had hatched from the same green egg that had connected with her during the touching. She had the same unmistakable aura and energy.
Of course, I'll take you everywhere because It's you! You are the one that wanted all my stories.

Now Ulendoth had Roana at her level she rubbed up against her new rider, pushing her head up under the red heads chin and along her jaw like a feline scenting and claiming it's new prize.
And you promised to tell me all of them if I found you when I hatched! And I did, so now you have to tell me all the stories about the sea I want. The green declared with a self satisfied swish of her tail and smug flick of her beautiful head.

Of course I will. You're right. I did promise. How could she ever refuse this beauty anything? Bathed in the afterglow of impression she would have agreed to almost anything the green had asked.
The subservience to her dragon would fade quickly but Ulendoth would enjoy it while it lasted.

Good! Let's go! There was always more to see.

Oh right. Now she had impressed they had to move off the sands. Coming back to reality in small increments Roana parted from the hatchling and stood up. Still dazed, she smiled at the Iathe and Zyamel. "I'll see you both soon okay?" There was no grantee that either of them would impress but they always had the feast.
Sadly Roana wasn't able to linger because Ulendoth was already off! Gotta go, don't stop. The world could pass you by like that.

Naturally a dragon like Ulendoth couldn't head straight for the feeding grounds like most dragon instead she zoomed over to say hi to Mum and dad!

Oh Hi! Look at my new rider. Isn't she great? Are you hiding anything back here? She babbled happily at her parents as she scoped out the small amount of sand that had been blocked by their bodies up till now.

It left Roana playing catch up and casting apologetic looks to the grown gold and blue pair. Ulendoth, I don't think there is much back there. Shall we go an get you something to eat instead? Roana was still completely indulgent of her new bond, gently coaxing her. The green didn't answer right away as she made her final checks for anything interesting in the area before acknowledging the growl of her stomach.

Okay, lets go and find meat and the others. She meant her clutch sibs.
As Ulendoth trundled back to her side Roana cast a glance up to the stands and observation dragon ledges for Die and Nicara. once she spotted them she let a huge grin spread over her face nodding at Ulendoth. Look at her, all mine? Isn't she just flawless?

FISHER

Impressions, dragonets being sad, more Impressions, more shells cracking open. The ~group~ hadn't really made any movements, much like Kinye had tried to tell her, and Fisher was loathe to admit maybe, just maybe, the little teen was correct. Or maybe they were just waiting for the right moment to strike, to sink their teeth into the unwary and just make it rain blood and whatever other horror stories she'd heard on the wings about hatchings. So far the only injury was the pride of a few people and that one green getting bitten which more or less was acceptable. Fisher didn't exactly have much to compare to, this being her first time standing after all.

"This is kinda...tame, ain't it? No complaints." Just the sleepy feeling creeping back in as her adrenaline started to wind down, the whole fear of the rampaging group pushing towards the back of her mind. Glancing around showed her that no one else looked ready to punch a dragonet in the face for survival so perhaps she was just...overreacting? Fisher liked to believe her survival instincts didn't fire errors too often and her imagination was on the right track.

She did think the noises the baby dragons made were unique, if not a little cute. With the newest arrival of a very happy, very honking loud brown, she raised an eyebrow. The clutch from...Rhianth (she tried to remember the name) were cracking open like....well, eggs, while the other clutch had very few. Was it something to do with how apart they'd been laid or something? Trying to have logical thought wasn't beneficial to the teen and so she stopped the train just as quickly as it started. "Look, another brown. That clutch sure is poppin' some mighty bigguns." She was still chatting at Kinye even if the smaller girl wasn't listening.

SOUI

Her heart still ached for the sad green, but what exactly could she do for her other than offer comforting thoughts? Soui wasn't certain how a person could properly comfort a dragonet at all, especially one not Impressed to anyone. A cold fear made her hope that someone on the sands didn't act poorly enough to Between the baby and that hopefully, somehow, the sweet green would find her love quickly. They were generally safe once they Impressed, right? She'd read enough about it she need not doubt her knowledge but having an answer from another person never hurt. Slowly opening her mouth to ask Dehka, or Orri, she snapped it shut at the loud HWONK from one of the eggs, as well as the sudden arrival of yet another brown on the sands.

At this rate they were going to be filled to the brim with unimpressed babies and the little teen hoped that nothing bad happened. Dragonets, she supposed, were no different from people in terms of personalities and egos and she certainly didn't want to see too many of them clashing in such a limited space. Ichor was bad enough that she didn't want to see human blood added to the mix. "What....do you think they're all waiting for? I know they have to be hungry." Her brain was trying to recall so many things about dragonets and thus her whisper was directed to both boys.

Niika - EGG BETTING TRACKING

How dare they. How dare they. Niika held a snarl in her chest on behalf of little Amortentia, knowing fully well one of those idiots - those ungrateful candidates who didn't know what opportunity they had standing in front of them. What would she have done to still be down there with that kind of opportunity? To get to be closer than a green who was one mind away (but still so wonderful in every way)? If they didn't want her, she would have taken the dear in a heartbeat - in less than that.

And here they were, making bets that these babies would die, or that they themself would die or......

She frowned into her bets, focusing on them to try and pull her sour mood back inside. Positive thoughts, positive thoughts......but Faranth were they hard.

Akaris
"Not especially," Akaris admitted after several moments for thought. When she had first been Searched - even before that - she had absolutely been one of those girls who thought she deserved something 'special' like a gold or a white, although a pretty little green or blue would have been acceptable. Browns were, well...brown, not nearly as flashy as the rest, surely not a match for her! She didn't harbor such thoughts anymore about what she should or would Impress or why, however; in her heart of hearts, she didn't truly believe that she ever would. There were moments, here and there, where she wanted to believe, encouraged by Junenth and Zinath and Vimiath, but... The doubt was too deeply-seeded to be uprooted.

"Fi'o's was always nice, though. Ivanhoth. We used to get him all sorts of fancy oils and things, she always complained that we were spoiling him, and no one would take him seriously if we kept putting scarves and jewelry on him." She smiled fondly at the memory of the pudgy little mercenary dragon who'd been nothing but sweetness under his scars. Not the brightest or the toughest, but she supposed he had Fi'o for that. But she'd adored that dragon, or at least adored fussing over him, before she'd learned to be afraid.

Cedarian
Cedarian was pleased that the girl next to her had as fine taste and good judgment as he did. A perfectly respectable sort of Hatching companion, if company was warranted at all. A much better fit than the talkative thing that had blabbered at him on the beach of Southern Boll, at any rate. Tossing back some of his hair--the heat was not doing it any favors, tch--the strawberry blond continue to let his gaze look over the babies.

Each one was unique, beautiful. "Each is a gem," he mused aloud. "While I understand certain colors seem to be more or less well regarded, any color dragon is better than none at all." It wasn't just being a Candidate of Western; it was the fact that Cedarian had grown up as the youngest, the spoiled baby, but also the forgotten spare. He was a Holder's son, and not expected to account for much; a disappointment in some ways; an afterthought in others. Eve his older brother, C'rian, whose brown was the clutchsire, had outdone him in every respect; he was married to a goldrider, was wealthy beyond measure, and had even taken his chosen honorific.

Huff.

But he'd show them all...one way or another. One thing C'rian did not have was an affiliation to any Weyr. And now, with Thread back, a dragon of any color meant he could maybe get to do something truly meaningful and unique. He could outshine his family in ways none of them had or could or would; he could fight Thread, and prove that he was certainly no coward or useless boy.

But that was neither here nor there. "I wouldn't mind seeing more greens myself," he mused, turning to admire the lovely (and rater fierce) ones that were among the Sands.

Tsunake

Lusialu
With all the movement and activity, she didn't quite catch her friend's eye trailing after the gold. It was difficult to want to say anything else, and with greens making up so much of the spectrum, there was a good chance a green was who you would bond with. "But all colors are good colors, really. My brother Impressed to a blue, and he's very kind, and very sweet." She explained to Nyara and Vaali, just in case neither knew; but also, because talking about something nice was better than trying to not worry about the hissing and trumpeting baby dragons out there.

"I hope you both get the color you want," she mused quietly, but ever sincerely. "I hope we all Impress." If not now then someday. One day. Though she knew there was no shame not Impressing, she... She couldn't help but want what her sister and brother had.

She still held onto Vaali, and was glad the older Nayaranau was there. When Zenobiath's voice touched her mind, she almost held her breath. The voice was familiar, in a way, but different. It was Zenobiath, and she ducked her head almost bashfully. Was she... Maybe.... Maybe she needed to be stronger, like her sister, like her brother. She let her arm fall away from Vaali, suddenly unsure.

Did she look foolish from a distance? Standing a bit taller, she brushed back some hair out of her face and thought quietly, You must be right. It will be okay. I'm okay. I hope I can do everyone proud today. And she would, one way or another.

Wouldn't she?

Kiri
The girl almost regretted bringing it up. She gave Farin a sharp glance, inwardly grimacing. Besides which, such thoughts, such memories, probably did not bode well in the middle of a Hatching. A foolish thought, really, but it couldn't be helped. That would was just under a Turn old, and not quite healed. Witnessing that... well. "We'll hope this doesn't turn into that," she stated firmly. "So far...so good?" She offered the other a cheeky grin, deciding it was time to lighten the mood. "Seems like all the big colors want to play. I would like to see some more greens and blues." That was a happier topic, wasn't it?

It was then that an unfamiliar voice suddenly "spoke" to her. For a moment she thought it was C'ryn, but it... it wasn't quite the same. In fact, it was entirely different, especially given that she didn't actually hear it at all. At least not with her ears.

She'd never actually had a dragon speak to her before, so she couldn't help but smile broadly in pleasure. Green eyes brightened with mirth and she stole a glance away from the dragonets to look up at the heights. There were dragons of all sizes and colors watching the spectacle, but she hoped she might catch sight of a particular bronze.

Would the bronze hear her if she thought back? Possibly! Thanks to you both! We'll see if I can charm a dragon yet. She couldn't hide her desire for it, even in her thoughts. She was practical though, and knew that some people wound up riders, and others spent their whole lives waiting. But she had time yet, and many Turns. If Hers wasn't in one of these eggs, maybe they would be in the next one, or the one after that, or the one after that... She wasn't usually a patient woman, but in this case, she would bide her time. With her usual good cheer, she did add with a splash of amusement But if not, I at least demand a proper visit with you and Yours at the feast, before I'm whisked away.

Shinnikan
The boy watched as Kellan moved away from him. He almost went to follow, opening his mouth to ask where he was going when.... He noticed it. Where the boy was staring, the rainbow regard of the brown, and... "Kellan?" He stopped, suddenly suspicious. Sure enough, though it happened seemingly with little fanfare, and without much commentary from the other, his boyfriend Impressed to the brown.

Just like that. A matter of seconds.

He wanted to congratulate him. Wanted to say something, anything really, and yet he suddenly found he had no words. So he stayed back, alone, happy for Kellan and strangely jealous all the same. Though the two of them were always a bit at odds, he never had expected someone, or something, to come between them. And now... Well. That made things a bit trickier, didn't it? He'd congratulate him when the affair was over.

Turning back towards the hatchlings, the young man continued to watch. He didn't like the look of some of the babies.... but he a few others looked like darlings.
Mr Cheri

S'del
The man was pleased at A'ye's response. He settled down, and turned to look at the eggs below, not wanting to keep the greenriders attention off the action or have him miss a moment. "Well, their loss is my gain then," he mused aloud, deciding to try to be a bit bolder. "Guess that means you can't make excuses of being too busy when I ask you out again." This time he did turn to him and offer him a grin; so his flirting wasn't exactly great, but he'd never had time to brush up his game. His relationships in the past had been a lot less words and a lot more just falling into things.

"Really though, I am glad you're here. We're here. Together." He stated, forcing himself to look back at the hatching below. Maybe now wasn't the best time for all this but... well... It was technically supposed to be a date. A real one. A first. Not just awkward flight stuff, not just friends being friends.

At his comment about his Wingleader, the man gave a little snort and another grin. "It's actually taught to us. Bronzeriders, and even some brown riders, get told on how they're meant to keep up appearances. Some Wingleaders like their riders to look the part, I guess," he shrugged nonchalantly. It still felt weird to him to weird such nice clothes, and have so many marks. He gave much of what he made away, but.... there were certain things he was required to have. "Any pairs down there you've favored so far?"

Olliah
The woman watched the on-goings intently. She had chosen a position closer to the front, wanting to be near in case Fianth needed her. She had never liked to sit high above, even though it often gave the best view. No, she was here to support Fianth, who was watching the happenings anxiously.

There, there, my love. They're all doing fine. She periodically sent waves of love and tenderness through their link as each egg hatched. The gold wanted nothing more than to fuss over each and every baby that creeled or cried out, but the gold knew to refrain; this was their moment, and unless one of the babies needed her, she would not get involved.

Still, her eyes kept firmly on Rhianth's more...exuberant brood. Easy now, Olliah assured, trying to send calm to the queen. They'll find Theirs soon enough. Or so Olliah hoped. Faranth, but the fact both clutches chose to hatch together was both exciting and overwhelming. There were a lot of moving pieces to keep tabs on.

She almost regretted not inviting someone to sit with her. Having a few more pairs of eyes would certainly have helped.

She gave him a little squeeze of reassurance before letting go, it wasn't as if she couldn't understand the fear of never impressing. There was no guarantee that any of them would ever walk away with a dragon, there were some even at the weyr who hadn't been so fortunate.

”Well there has been cases that riders are picked from the stands so there is always a chance even if you are a little older.” It wasn't much help and Andrestia was well aware of that, D’mos had been far more than frank to her that if she didn't impress there was the likelihood that her father would rarely speak to her again. He was barely impressed when she made it as a candidate nevermind if she spent the next few years being emptied handed.

”Bronzes are lovely my father and both my brothers are bronze riders, that's the only downside in being female is that I can't follow the family and get a bronze. My brother told me to aim for a gold but I doubt I will be that lucky.” She looked back at the dragonets that were still lingering around the unhatched eggs, if anything he had better odds than she did. One gold had already impressed and there was no promises in another.

The greenish bronze remained eyeing the candidates carefully as another more darker bronze gave its approval to its brown and green siblings as they moved to awake other. Something was going to happen, it was slowly starting to form as the others hatched with their own various explosions and cracking. A few greens and a rather elegant looking blue made their way through the candidates slowly impressing their chosen riders. Even the brown that had been particularly rude as an egg had slithered his way through the crowd finally impressing a male candidate. So far, no apparent luck but Cabhan kept his green eyes focused on the eggs and the greenish bronze.

"If I see you later, I'll tell you if you still want to know," Helaku told Saekagi in a hushed voice. He wasn't going to dredge up bloody memories when they were all supposed to be trying their best to think good thoughts and send pleasant vibes.

It looked like the Amortentia green was starting to consider looking them over again, though Crucio looked wary. He was becoming strangely proud of how fierce a protector Crucio was being, though he still hoped she would keep protecting her sister without spilling blood. That slender, lanky brown Impressed with little fuss, while the Gryffindor egg was starting to rock even more intently.

When the Colors green and Be Our Guest brown started showing each other off, he couldn't help but to smile too. They were such good siblings to each other! "Definitely cute," he affirmed. There were a few he could think of here from Western that they might want, but he didn't know enough about the High Reaches Candidates. Could his new friend be one of them? He knew hope was starting to thread its way more intensely through his heart, though he tried hard to keep it from blinding him. A lot of kids mistook a dragon for theirs and ended up punished for it. He would...he would keep that hope inside, unaware that it very much showed in his eyes as he looked from hatchling to hatchling.

A couple of dragonet honks caught his attention, and he grinned a bit wider as the Gryffindor brown greeted the world. "Looks like he's ready to go! A real happy one."
