I know Ring around the Rosie is about the Plague. I used to be told it was "husha husha we all fall down" but then I was told that it was "ashes ashes". I suppose there was nothing better to than play games where you died. Everyone else was doing it. *Shrugs*

God-Raped-Me That's true, but you would think they would sing about happier things then. Mayhaps it was a way to take the scare factor out of it. GRM just remember it is much easier to find inspiration among that which your are familiar with. It is much harder to create something of which you nothing about. Death was all around so death became a common subject ... it's no different today.

Wikipedia article of Ring Around the Rosie.
Helps explain why you knew it as "husha husha" a bit, GRM.
Associating the rhyme with the plague didn't become established until the 1950's. So there's a pretty good chance it really isn't about the plague at all... sweatdrop

That's really interesting! I always thought it was about the plague (when i was older. Just thought it was a silly game when I was small.)

I always wondered about that. There's a lot of weird myths out there. Have you seen mythbusters the show?? It's awesome. They do some really cool stuff.

I'm sure a spider would crawl in your mouth if you were dead and not breathing.

True but I wouldn't care, because I would be dead.
Also, Mythbusters is kick a**! I love all of them!

Kals is questing again!I actually saw a spider crawl out of my friend's ear once though...
I always just figured that if ring around the rosy was about the plague, it must have been to help people remember what the plague entailed. A lot of creepy children's songs actually originated as cautionary tales and/or history lessons. Check sig for details!
