I dooooo have a backstory and storyline and stuff for my mare... but it's not in any way related to the CYOA stuff. XD;;

I had actually been watching this thread and thinking about having Thiel join before my win. I'm thinking she would be one of the soq who help make sure everyone stays safe. Along the lines of doing spotting for acrobats, gear maintenance for jousters, water runs to keep performers from getting dehydrated, etc.

Thiel's personality is a bit dragon, in that she wants a hoard. But for her nothing is more precious than friends, family, and other living beings. Each is unique and special. A herd to belong to and take care of is perfect for her. And this one, where everyone is welcom and encouraged to shine just makes sense. She's not controling, possessive, or restrictive; believing that what makes people special is being who they are. But she will do her best to keep everyone safe, reduce risk of injuries, and basically care for the herd. This would include paying attention and comforting broken hearts, giving special treats on birthdays, helping plan celibrations, and even a bit of matchmaking.

As for my lapsang pony . . . I won't know until I have him. I'm going to let him tell me who he is after I see him. But he will probably be part of the herd.

Even if its unrelated to the CYOA stuff, I'd still love to hear it! This way people who won something from it can see what happened to the character. biggrin

The Reenactment fair herd would love to have her! And she'd certainly be treated like family/one of the group, and having someone who's one of the 'behind the scenes' people would be a lot of fun and allow for a bunch of interactions with herd members.

I REALLY need to make a reenactment fair official Herd Interest thread (and Herd thread... Though I'm not sure if they count as an official herd since they're not really the types to have a lead alpha or protector, but rather a circle of higher ranked NPC characters that brainstorm ideas and collect the information gathered by others, figure out the most reasonable, then put it up to vote. They're a very tightly knit (yet still welcoming) group of individuals and even family units working together for a joint cause.

Chocolat's first priority is always the expectant mares in her care, she looks to be a source of comfort in what can be a confusing and scary time, (first time mothers particularly) yet she has an air of confidence & certainty that tells any mother she midwives for that she knows what she is doing and can handle any birthing curve balls.

She's basically a matronly midwife. She doesn't take any crap though, and if you become a nuisance she will tell you, especially if it is negatively affecting one of her mothers. Which means if you're a clingy/overbearing father you will be told to back off, although conversely she has no time for absentee fathers (she's quite traditional in her values).

She will welcome a helping hoof, though she would want the relationship to be very professional around expectant mothers so that they are always assured that both know what they are doing
She sounds great! Would I be wrong in holding her accountable as an expert in her own kind (kiri-suti type mix)?

Sadly no hooves here, only paws and claws in this case but it's nice to be welcomed all the same. x'D
My mare progresses from an unprofessional state to being professional, at the second point in her timeline where she would come across these soquili she would be professional.

I know she'd be unsure but my mare would not be obtrusive in the slightest, she would only do things if she thought they were needed and not without communication to those who she may be working with or around. I think she will most likely also treat others outside the herd which means at times she will have to depart from the herd as they move on or travel forward. This means that it is very important to have other colleagues on hand in the Lapsang troupe. My mare keeps in contact others including her dad with her familiars so she could probably find out the next point to meet up the the herd again.

Multiple midwives would most definitely be welcome, just as a bunch of healers in general would be welcome biggrin Like some of the other herds/groups/cultures I've made or had some sort of major influence on, the Faire is a lot bigger than just those who actively own characters that are a part of it, and they would need medical booths in several locations for first aide and emergencies as well as a clinic area on the side for longer term issues that can be put to the side for it, such as accidents happening during shows, tournaments, the battle recreation or even the LARP days where people are encouraged to make up characters and join the battle with padded play-weapons or fabric bags full of little beans for 'magic spells'.

Having multiple master midwives join in or at least active would also be immensely useful, and would allow them both to get days off, as well as allowing those who specialize a bit more in one thing vs the other (Such as Yumi's girl who, with claws, could weave her own baskets or help place the foals into them with greater ease, while Citrus's girl might have other talents like being more skilled in remedies that come from the Lapsang Kingdom Valley that arent as commonly known in Greater Kawani.) as there would be visiting mothers coming from all around when they hear there are midwives there they could talk to, or even just coming to visit the faire and discover them there, OR members OF The herd who are pregnant and need of a midwife. The mares would be swamped if it was just one as this is a herd thats large and advertises greatly to get LOTS of visitors daily during the open periods.

They'd jump on the chance of having additional midwives.
I was thinking that too, it would be so much with lots of soquili (NPC soquili matter too haha) to deal with and considering my mare likes to help soquili inside and also outside of the herd, I think it would be best that there was another more specialised midwife on hand. *nods*

Also great job on Yilmaz. biggrin
I noticed that ponies seem to be very therapeutic to do when there is stress.

Of course they count as a herd. They are a group that stay together, protect each other, care for each other, and generally work towards a common goal for the common good. Just like you don't have to have a king to be a country, you don't have to have an alpha to be a herd. I'm personally loving this group/concept/herd. It is open and welcoming, doesn't opress anyone, and isn't centered on violence or requiring someone to be/act a particular way. It's pretty awesome.

Alright so this is kinda what I have planned for my boyo...would definitely like to be a part of the troupe 8D

History:

Monarche is descended from a long line of Glass Masters that worked under the old king before he passed away. Once he was gone, Monarche's forefathers followed Souchong and worked for him until they had risen to the level of "the King's Glass Masters." When the two lines of Souchong and Lapsang reunited Monarche's line prevailed against the competition and kept the title. They were the most revered Glass Masters in the kingdom, and gained a reputation for their wares.

In present time, Monarche's father is still in the old valley kingdom, ever working on making new creations and teaching his eldest son, Tonquin, to follow in his footsteps. Meanwhile he has sent his second son, Monarche, to sell his work and travel the lands. He expects Monarche to bring back new ideas and knowledge to help improve the family business.

Future Plots:

I'd like Monarche to travel with the troupe for a period of time as the Glass Master. He'd have a booth and peddle porcelains / ceramics (including both masks and armor) / glasswares / kettles etc. to the visitors and audience while also providing the acts (King / Queen / etc.) with the necessary supplies they need for their acts. I'd love for him to be a bit of a multi-tasker, spending his morning at his booth, then in the afternoon and evening coordinating which tea-set ends up at which event. I'm pondering getting him a familiar (crow / raven) to help keep him carry his book of important events / times xD.

When Sultan, a stallion who had wandered away from his mini herd to go "adventuring" stumbles across Monarche's booth looking worse for wear (after an encounter with a purewalker), Monarche takes it upon himself to help the other stallion regain his health. They become fast friends, as they are both a bit refined / proper. When Sultan decides it is time to leave, Monarche decides to join him in his travels.

From then on he'd travel with Sultan between the mini herd, the Underland herd, (perhaps the Tea Traders), the valley kingdom, and the troupe peddling his products.

Personality:

Monarche was raised in a very proper, respectable environment and travelling has not changed him one bit. He's a bit posh, a bit uppity and sometimes a downright pain in the a**. If you know tea's, he will not look down on you, and if you know anything worth knowing about glassware / pottery / porcelain you may even gain a bit of his respect. Any sign of sophistication gains you a bit of worth in his eyes as well. He does, however, enjoy teaching others about his trade and awing others with his father's work. So if one asks him to explain a certain type of porcelain, he could spend hours telling them all the properties, uses, etc. about that product. Strength-wise Monarche is fit, but rarely does he see the use in physical confrontations, instead he tries to think of ways around difficult situations. Thinking ahead is one of his assets so it is very rare to see him rushing around, as he coordinates his daily activities.

I thought you'd be amused by this: for a few too many seconds there I thought Monarche worked for the king and was around for the war and was getting REALLY confused about how he could be centuries old. *laughs* Not running on all four cylinders tonight!

Glass making: Would require the help of a familiar with hands as an assistant, BUT It is possible for a stallion with hooves like his (Though chances are he might have ancestry with paws/claws that first got into it and then it was passed on and adapted for family members with hooves, or at least apprenticed under one if not descended from them) since they're drawn with split toes capable of spreading a little for like.. Holding a leg out and holding a long pipe with a lump of glass in while blowing into it and pushing it back into the kiln with ones mouth (With a specially designed rotating semi-loose mouthpiece one can hold onto without the spinning gritting against the teeth) While a raccoon familiar rests on the leg to help spin it. Or can have someone else do the spinning and man the fires while grippers designed for using ones teeth hold the glass rods out for decoration. And of course, slumping and pouring liquid glass into premade molds (once more with designed tools for use with teeth)

And as a master glass maker, he would likely have a bunch of assistants and apprentices (NPC and Real) that would assist or also make merchandise/run the shop/take undesired by him custom orders/do a lot of the preprep etc and allow him such freedoms to work on what he WISHES.

All of it WOULD be easier for a pawed or clawed soquili or a familiar, but that'd also make his artwork even more priceless since training in it from childhood would make for an impressive demonstration and bring an air of magic to it.

Here's some info that you can thus take into mind if you want to keep things open:

Once he leaves, his job in the fair could be taken up by one his apprentices and their assistants, and he could always return to it at times as a workplace for his more complex works, so still be 'part' of the fair if you wanted once he left, but only when the fair is actively taking customers or to check up on his OWN shop/apprentices (since chances are, soquili and familiars would come to learn from him/teach their methods to him to share ideas since thats part of what his dad sent him off for). Or they can send a messenger and his father could get someone else to take over his spot while he's traveling independently from the fair.

If not, any other glassmakers making there or merchants selling premade glass objects (NPC or Player owned) made at a more permanent studio would likely be glad for the reduced competition lol!

Haha no worries! I was like that earlier this week (I thought I posted Monarche's info to Ryuu's thread early in the week, but I didn't, so I had to post again. I have no idea where I may have posted it the first time o.o) so I know how it is. 8D

Monarche, himself wouldn't be making the wares (glass / ceramics or otherwise), only selling / placing orders / coordinating their use. I imagine him as a slash between a merchant and a curator for his father (and brother's) work.

His father has a large workshop back in the old kingdom and has a bevy of apprentices and helpers to get things done. I was imagining Raccoons, Ravens, and Otters as the main crafters / hands, with Tonquin and Scinde (Monarche's father. Decided to name him xD) being the main directors / artistic Masters. I could definitely see both of them helping out in things like the glass blowing since that sounds like something they'd both be capable of. Also, although Monarche is fog based, in my head Scinde is smoke based & Tonquin is fire based, which reflects their personalities (calm & exciteable respectively xD).

Anywho, back to Monarche... he's a bit more like Scinde's representative in the outside world. He will keep the title of Glass Master because he is a direct descendant of the family and partaking in the trade, just not the successor who is crafting the items. And since he was raised in the ceramics environment he has a good eye for detail and value so he can help customers figure out what they need / judge the worth of competitors pieces. At his booth he would have works created by Scinde and Tonquin and sell them to general public in the morning. This would also include taking orders for special made products, in which he would send out a raven to the old kingdom to get custom items created for customers. In the afternoon he would curate the use of the far more unique, classy, etc. items (masks / armor / cups / etc.) to the other entertainers in the troupe for their use. A bit like an art curator, he would choose the pieces depending on the atmosphere needed that day.

Hmmmm... now that I'm thinking of it I will quest to get him a couple companions to pull off this endeavor. 2 Lapsangish ravens. One to act as a courier to his father for special orders, and one to stay with him to help coordinate his daily tasks....

and I think I'll also quest a Lapsangish wind mare....
She can be the "transporter". I'll have to ponder up a bit more backstory for her, but I'm thinking she will be a cousin who has no artistic talent, per say, but wants to stay working with the family. She could pick up and deliver the weekly shipments to the troupe and special orders. That way, when Monarche decides to go off, she can hold down the booth as well (though she won't be as experienced) . With Monarche's guidance she will be able to handle the curating of items as well...haha oh geez, so many ideas now @_@

Well, in that case... biggrin

So! Pelagia used to love hanging around on oceanic rocks singing, basking, the works! Once she was doing this when a small boat of humans noticed her and changed course to admire her and listen to her song. Their ship got destroyed by rocks due to their change in course, and Pelagia couldn't save all of them.

Ever since, she's taken responsibility for sailors in dangerous waters. She watches over places she knows to be ship breakers and does her best to guide the ships through, and perform any rescues needed if things go wrong.

However! Sailors have noticed this strange mare hanging around dangerous places where people tend to die. Sailors have started to consider her an ill omen due to this. Some just fear her, but others try to deliberately avoid her or even run her off. This makes her mission to guide and rescue people a lot more difficult, so she's pretty sad and troubled about it all. She does her best and tries to help as many people as she can, but she's aware that she is feared and hated, and it's a pretty big psychological drain.

Hehe! It might also help to have a Raccoon or river otter on 'staff' to help wrap and pack purchases and help people put the heavier things on that require someone able to tie/clasp things with both paws, but you could actually let someone elses free floating familiars be hired by the shop or even open up a sub-herd opening. Plus, with someone else able to stay there, the shop could stay open longer once he's gone on to the curator part of the job.

Quote:

I love the journal! I was already inclined to make him a storyteller. The journal just makes it sure. I'm actually thinking the journal is sort of a story seed. Some pages have pressed flowers, others have art. A few he put in, special things he wanted to remember, but since the process is slow (with teeth probably), he doesn't do that often. Most of his journal is made up of pieces from artist he's met. Well . . . Not always artists, sometimes just those who want to create on a page. Then, when he goes to tell his stories, he invites a few audience members up, usually foals, to pick a picture each (no more than four). He then tells a story that encompases elements from all the pictures chosen.

Eathos loves being at the fair. Spending time telling stories to foals, making them smile, lightens his heavy heart.

He had a love, when he was young. The filly and he had grown up not far from each other. Maybe it had been simple infatuation, a childhood crush. But he would never know. A wildfire sparked in the field between their families and the winds blew the flames into a roaring monster eating all life in its path.

Eathos was heartbroken. It took him years to recover, to learn to love again. But the mare he settled down with, who carried his unborn children, died of a wasting sickness while her body was already taxed with pregnancy.

Eathos knew he would never love again. He was careful, so careful, when it came to mares. He wouldn't allow himself fall for anyone so delicate again. But still he needed companionship, a sop to his wounded heart.

He joined the guards, trained to fight, to protect. Maybe he would never love again, but he could help keep safe those who did. It was a subtle thing, falling in love again. The stallion he fought beside, trained with. The one who heard his tears and cared for his heart's wounds. Eathos wasn't ever sure when the feelings became more than companionship. But the other stallion only laughed, happy Eathos finally saw the love being offered.

He let himself love, thinking nothing could overcome this warrior. But he was wrong again. When skinwalkers attacked his love was struck a fatal blow defending the herd's foals. But he didn't die right away. He made Eathos promise not to lock his heart away again. A bitter promise, but as a matter of honor, his word he would keep.

But he could love without loving. Eathos resolved that it was the foals his lover had died to protect that would hold his heart, the little bit he still allowed the world to touch him.

So he started watching over them, playing with them, and letting them give him some measure of joy. It was their clamouring for stories that set his life's path. He found that he loved to paint picture with words, so see their reactions to drama, and make them laugh.

As they grew older, Eathos no longer fit in their lives, but he knew his calling. His friend, Lolkoi, convinced him to travel, to see the world. For a time it was only the two of them, occasionally stopping to brighten someone's day with a story, but mostly just Eathos finding a new peace.

Lolkoi made Eathos a journal, something to keep his memories, his joy, so he would not forget the happy times if ever tragedy struck again. Eathos found it hard to put his own thoughts in the book, though he pressed a flower that was the favorit of his childhood sweetheart, painstakingly drew the view of a sunset the mare would have loved, and added the tea he knew his warrior would have loved to the cord of the book. Lolkoi chivvied him into adding a few more things, the otter even added a few himself.

Then came the day a foal asked about the book, about some of the things in it. It was too personal, too painful, to give the truths to such a young mind. So Eathos wove a story. The foal's mother thought it was beautiful, but could see the sadness behind Eathos' eyes and asked if she could add to his journal. She was an artist and painted a picture of the bright joy on her foal's face, wanting to put something happy in the stranger's book. So a new tradition was born. Eathos would get pictures for his book from those he passed in return for telling stories from its pages.

For some time he traveled like this until Lolkoi heard of the Lapsang Fair. Lolkoi, not having had such tragedies, was quite the lady's otter and two of his 'special friends' were going to be traveling with the troop/herd. It took some time to convince Eathos, who was still afraid to spend enough time with anyone who might win his heart. But it was the promise of foals to tell his stories to, to win smiles from, that convinced him.

So Eathos has been traveling with the fair long enough he is comfortable and has relaxed enough to form friendships. But he is still aloof and skittish around anyone flirty or too outgoing. However, he has found a new contentment, his own quiet joy. It may not be the family and love he thought he would have when he was younger, but Eathos realized that here he did have a kind of family. And for him, a quiet happiness.

Sorry, didn't see this, didn't seem to get the quote notification ^_^;

Possibly? I'm sure she'd like think that she knows enough, but all new experiences are learning ones. Claws/paws would be helpful, as up until that point she will be relying on her otter familiar for any delicate work, and although that's been very helpful, obviously the otter can only pick/carry things to a certain weight. XD

It sounds like they could have a good working relationship when your mare isn't travelling 3nodding
