Daesilena fixed the belt round her waist and glanced at some of the other candidates who in their hurried excitement seemed to have forgotten they needed to look at least somewhat decent before the candidate master. Didn’t they know they needed to be calm on the sands? Daesilena had gone over every single little detail and thing she could remember from her lessons to help her with her very first hatching. One of the main things was to stay calm and not anger the mother watching over her eggs. If people were this excited something bad might happen. Still right now, she needed to worry about herself and so she headed to the designated meeting area.
Bow to those present. Daesilena made the mental note quickly and got in line behind some of the girls. She didn’t want to be first, she wanted to watch the others first and then make sure she did things correctly. She listened to the quick flow of instructions from the candidate master, noting each one down and committing it to her memory. Obviously some of these were a given, but seeing how excited some of the candidates were, she understood why he might feel the need to repeat what had already been drilled t them thousands of times before.
Then it was go time and Daesilena moved her feet even s her mind repeated the instructions. She was not ready though for how warm the place was, this was her first time setting foot on the sands and she was already sweating. She glanced around towards the eggs and then right back to Uridith because she couldn’t remember if she was supposed to be staring at the golden mother before even thinking about the eggs. Still, she’d singled out an egg who’s shell she’d found particularly interesting and she was going to head to that one first. It was hard to miss the whispering of the other girls about the golden egg though.
Daesilena waited patiently in line, truth be told she didn’t mind waiting. There was a very real and very large possibility that she did not impress after all so what was the hurry? Not that it bothered her to know she might not impress, if truth be told she was still a little scared of everything the Weyr and how large and frightening the dragons seemed to be. She knew a lot of people laughed at her for that fear, but they didn’t come from where she did. From what she could tell a lot of the candidates had lived with Dragons their whole life.
When it was her turn, Daesilena did exactly as she was told. She walked right up to Lestenna and Uridith with a passive expression in her slow walk without directly looking at them because this was a lot to take in for her. Uridith was the largest dragon she’d ever seen and Lestenna was a weyrleader after all! She bowed once to Lestenna and once to Uridith before turning to V’kenti and Takarath to bow to them as well. They were here so she would greet them too; it would be rude not to do so. Then Daesilena went to join the others who were not around the eggs.
The Emperor Egg had been her target but when the Gold queen had started to move she’d stopped and frozen before they were all told to do so. She’d just reached the egg and the tips of her fingers where on it's shell. And then it took all she could for Daesilena not to recoil and run off the sands when she felt the pure rage that the Emperor egg had. She could clearly see the egg shaking as if it was about to burst and the tiny dragonet inside would spill out. Still, Daesilena was still unable to move until it was safe and she stood there she was looking at the beautiful pattern on the shell and wondering what had angered it so. She dared not speak to it directly for fear it might just crack open.

Ichta promptly had a heart attack and died.
Okay, maybe she didn't, but it seemed the golden mother had stepped in to put a certain excited little grey egg back in it's place and Ichta had been moved out of the way somewhere in the process. She remained frozen, watching the gold as she went about her tasks, and....walked off with one of the eggs. Was this all about the red egg?
Well.....Uridith would need to be completely off of the sands and it even took a moment after Lestenna allowed them their freedom again for her to right herself again and dust the sand off of her tunic. That had perhaps been the scariest thing to happen her entire time at the Weyr so far and oh her poor little nerves. But she'd known that these were all options and...she could do this.
Maybe. If she told herself a lot. BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE. Oh wait, she had none.
There was definitely now an empty space in the sands where the red egg had sat, and Ichta moved towards it, almost curiously, to visit the other eggs that had been left with the Devil's absence. She sat in the sands next to The Death, placing a hand gently upon it.
Well, that was quite the party, wasn't it friend? Was it fun to be up close?

Empress Egg The sullen pouting of the dragonet within the egg quieted slightly as Alumet fussed over it and explained her own situation. Yes, that was exactly what was going on. Didn't that bad egg know how to share? It had been waiting for so long, and then its sibling just stole everything. That wasn't right or fair... and it was upsetting its clutchmates. A little ashamed of itself for distressing the Moon and Star eggs, the baby within tried to extend a tendril of comfort to its siblings whom had been wronged by it. It wasn't trying to be mean. It was just so unhappy with what had happened.
But then Mother made everything ever so much better! The egg rejoiced within its shell, for now all could go back to normal. It had had its little tantrum, and all was forgiven. Surely others might come up to meet it? But let Alumet stay just a little longer, please? Still in need of reassurance, the awareness within brushed against the girl who touched its shell. And if, perhaps, a touch of smugness permeated the egg when the Devil was relocated, well, that was to be expected.
Tower Egg How now, Luiciand? Why not put this anger to better purpose! A moment's indignity can be assuaged by what can be accomplished. Surely Luiciand would rise to the top, would become more than a mere pawn for a Gold dragon's will? Focus on the future, forget the here and now. This was but a moment in time, and would soon pass.
Death Egg At Ichta's touch, the egg quivered in excitement. Yes, oh yes, wasn't that so amusing? It found the entire situation terribly humorous, and it was very pleased to have more attention. Tell Death of your troubles, Ichta. It knows that all things change in time, and there is a little humor in every situation. Its siblings are nothing to fear, dear child.

Amila was far too used to lesser animals. One moment, she was distressed by the Star, the next, an egg was moving in the back and her mind seemed to click to an autopilot-like state. She shifted to shield the Star and it's Sun briefly, before watching the impressive gold mother move to calm the egg's wrath. What in the name of everything was she saying and why was the egg so upset? Once it seemed clear, the Candidate decided to approach the Emperor calmly, kneeling and putting one finger on it gently.
"Be kind. What if you scared some of your siblings little one? I know you must be excited but surely you understand nobody's going to hurt anybody? It will all be alright. But be nice.
Her tone was gentle, but firm - she knew the gold could easily hurt or worse, kill her, but Amila... Wasn't really thinking about that.
At all. Instead, she was focused on her task.
"Be. Nice."

Asheryn was one of the Candidates who had run cheering out of the room when it was announced the eggs were ready for Touching. She was so excited, but she tried to tone it down as they reached the sands. She couldn't help bouncing a little, standing still a hard thing for a ridiculously excited Candidate. Once reaching the sand, she bowed to the parents and their riders.
Then it was off to the races, so to speak! She approached the eggs with a little caution mixing in with her excitement. The first egg her fingers reached out to stroke was the Moon Egg She loved the rose hue of it and she wondered about the life inside. What kind of dragon would this egg become? She giggled quietly as she sensed a feeling of excitement from it. "Are you as excited as I am?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rhey was less vocal about his excitement, but it didn't mean it was any less than those cheering around him. But beneath it there was nervousness. He knew his father and Owara would be proud of him no matter what happened, but a small part of him wondered if L'mul, a green rider, would be disappointed if his son didn't Impress at all. Logic told him that couldn't be true, since L'mul had married a woman who had been a Candidate and didn't Impress.
But logic couldn't always touch cold fear. But! On the heels of that thought was the Touching! Dressed appropriately, Rhey bowed to the parents and their riders before making his way to the eggs. He felt jittery, but felt drawn to the calm aura that seemed to radiate out from the green Heirophant Egg. "Hello, little one," he murmured.
Yes, I'll stay, thought Mallan to the Devil Egg, drawing closer, even kneeling to get closer, he was heedless of the drama from Empress, oblivious until he felt himself yanked backwards, tumbling in a ball, away from the egg. He was about to yell at someone when he became aware that his attacker had been Uridith, yeahNO, he closed his mouth and watched as she removed the red egg, oh no but it had wanted him to stay....
Shaking his head clear and getting to his feet, the hot sand starting to scald his hands and his backside stinging from the tumble. He looked about him, others obviously moved and disturbed, he was a little confused but wasn't going to let this ... Drama... Stop him. He moved towards another egg, one close by. The Death Egg was a pretty pink egg, hopefully the gold mother didn't decide enough was enough and chased everyone away, he wanted to meet all of the eggs, but this one was now, such a nice egg, he hoped it hadn't been too disturbed by Uridith's relocation of its sibling.
His breath caught when he felt the power that pulsed from that shell, never having imagined such a thing possible in his wildest dreams. It did not feel like a threat, however. No, this was.... reassuring. Was it strange, to feel comforted? Before he could think much longer, Lestenna's voice cracked like a whip across the sands, and Goran froze. He watched the egg tumble, felt his breath catch when he realized Ichta was right in the way of its path.... and shards, the great golden mother lowered her head and gently set things right again--though it scooped up the brilliant red egg and tucked it closer to her.
The sudden blast of anger from the egg he was touching made him reel back with alarm, but his eyes soon narrowed with understanding. Anger was something he battled daily. Anger could lead to great strength... such strength, for the egg to rock itself so! But it could also wound terribly, and there was no going back from that.
Easy. He thought to the incensed Emperor Egg, refusing to remove his palm just yet. All will be well. You are strong. You will rise above this.
Death Egg Yes. The egg did have troubles. For instance, right now it was trapped in this small, confined space. Surely there were better things to be seen out there? But enough about Death. Death wants to know about Ichta, and what brought Ichta to it. Does Ichta know of its sibling? The one that was taken away. That is one of its very favorite special friends. At Luciand's dismissive thought, the dragonet within flinched slightly in reproach.
Judgement Egg It seemed that the little dragon within the egg was weighing, Reenav, somehow... searching him out to see what he was made of. Yes, it was a bit of an outsider. It was over here, and there weren't that many eggs nearby. Perhaps that was what gave it its mettle. What of Reenav?
High Priestess At Luiciand's touch, the egg was almost completely silent. This was not an egg that postured or preened, not for anyone. Not even for you. Its sibling had clearly made an impression on this Candidate, and the High Priestess considered him, sounding him out for any potential weakness. What did he think of what was going on?
Death Egg Hello! Mallan had met its sibling, then? A fine example of the species, to be sure, and ever so amusing! Death had so much to laugh about, especially how easily trapped Devil's admirers had been. It was a pity that it had been moved, for Death had been leaning against it, and now it stood quite alone.
Chayrel hung close to Fehral as the two of them entered the great heated cavern. His mouth had gone dry as he stared at the eggs, their colors bright and inviting. He felt extra-small with Uridith and Takarath looming over the clutch, and though he bowed and murmured his thanks, he kept his gaze averted. How many times had he failed to Impress? Would these eggs hold his missing piece? The negative thoughts hung over him like a cloud, and he tried hard to shove them away.
He was supposed to be happy. He was supposed to be cheerful. He was supposed to think positive, charming thoughts at the dragons within the shells. And yet...
Fake it 'til you make it, he supposed. Happiness, cheerfulness, and positive emotions weren't common feelings for the black haired boy. But he would try, today. Glancing over at Fehral, he gave the others hand a quick and sudden squeeze before purposefully moving away. His skin was dark enough, and he was hot enough on the Sands, that maybe the hint of color upon his cheeks would be missed.
No, today was about the eggs.
The drama between Uridith, the Empress Egg, and the Devil Egg had not been missed by the boy, or anyone within the Hatching Sands, he'd wager. He had greeted a few of the smaller eggs, and had been glad to be out of the way. The Devil Egg had made him nervous, especially as one by one Candidates had come to settle near it. So it was, Chayrel had decided to avoid it, and the other larger eggs of the clutch. He couldn't help but prefer eggs a bit smaller in size -- like him.
So it was, he found himself drawn to the small white egg of The Magician. He found himself unsure what to think, what to say. He didn't want to offend the egg, and wasn't even sure if the egg would listen to him. Hello there, he thought, trying not to feel defensive or uncertain. Dragons liked confident sorts, didn't they? Maybe that as his problem. I hope you're . . er, doing all right in there.
Mph. Chayrel couldn't help but feel awkward about this entire experience.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Cahlusi had held his breath when the gold had moved over to the Empress egg. It had not escaped his notice that his sister was there, and his heart had leapt into his throat. He'd almost taken a step forward, but Lestenna's command to freeze had kept him well rooted in place. He knew that dragons weren't prone to hurting people, no matter how aggressive they became -- but to see such a large creature towering over his sister, his protective instincts couldn't hep but kick in.
Thankfully, though, Uridith seemed to calm the eggs down, and removed the Devil from its position. While it seemed unusual, he was glad his sister seemed to be content where she was at, and he allowed himself to relax. He'd be sure to have to talk to her about it later.
Now that the Candidates could resume touching their eggs, the young man walked over to The Wheel of Fortune Egg. The vibrant mottled blue color drew him like a moth to the flame, and he let his fingers reach out to stroke the shell. "Why hello gorgeous," he quietly drawled, greeting the egg with a genuine smile. If there was a hint of flirtation behind it, the man couldn't help himself. He was naturally the sort to be complimentary to anyone... eggs included.
~ ~ ~ ~
When the Candidates were allowed to resume touching, and the drama had subsided, Shinnikan prowled around the eggs. All of them looked so appealing, and already their stories had to be something good. From the drama on the Sands, to the foreign feelings of the hatchlings enveloping the group, Shinnikan was both amused and entertained.
The tall man finally settled next to The High Priestess. He gave a smile to Luiciand -- he didn't know he other well -- before turning his thoughts to the egg. He reached out to stroke its pretty shell and couldn't help but wonder what stories this egg had to tell... or if it was one who preferred to listen instead. Quite a bit of commotion today. Hopefully you're not too riled up by the days events.
