Rothgar // he/him // Candidate

Rothgar bowed with the rest of the Candidates and took his place among them on the scorching Sands. The young BeastCrafter felt a certain pull toward the HP clutch but he got on well --to a certain extent-- with animals in general so perhaps those first cracks were what drew him. He did not know the pull of Impression, not even with a wher or firelizard, so he could only imagine what to expect. He watched the beautiful greenish dragon emerge before any other and stand tall and proud. That was no green; that metallic sheen under egg bits and drips was a bronze. With a start, Rothgar put the beginngs of a goofy grin away as both hatchling and mother berated someone's bad behavior. He pulled his eyes away and looked around.

Maddeck // he/him // medic, Standidate

It was just his luck that Maddeck would find himself in jogging shorts when the dragons began to hum. His luck still that he was not out in the bowl far beyond the Sands. He was a few minutes late before he arrived, still in his jogging shorts, and bowed to the dragons below before doing anything else. It was reverence and respect that showed in his features. He glanced about the Stands looking for a familiar shock of orangey hair or for a certain rider's face. But his attention was snatched away by an angry mother dragon. What was this, now?

Helaku // He/Him // Western

Okay, that was definitely a bronze. And a handsome one too, from the way he preened and--Rhianth's roar shook him, and he tried not to let it show on his face, but his eyes remained locked on the form of the dragonet whose eyes were now firmly red. He wasn't sure what had prompted the fury from either of them, but he needed to stay alert as the Slytherin hatchling approached the boys. He spared a glance to either side, mentally judging who might need help if the freshly-hatched bronze decided he was out for blood, but he tried to stay peripherally aware of that baby dragon at all times.

He had noticed the large striped egg starting to shake so very hard, but his focus had to be here. Focus focus focus.

Willim

The first thought that crossed Willim's mind when the little bronze dragonet hatched from the green and silver egg was I'm winning the bet! The second thought was Is he looking for me? Then a second egg started shaking too! Willim closed his eyes and concentrated on happy, welcoming thoughts. He hoped there was a dragonet out there on the Sands for him!

Jeri

"Oooh, a bronze!" Jeri cooed, wide-eyed. It was a really good sign that the first dragonet that hatched was a bronze! She knew she couldn't Impress him, but she could still admire him -- and what a handsome, haughty little fellow he was! Noticing another egg begin to shake, she drew herself up straight and tall. "Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts..."

Tokki

Tokki's eyes widened as the first egg hatched and the dragonet emerged. Was it a bronze? It looked too big for a green... Not like he was some kind of dragon expert, but he was surprised both at how big it was, and how small it was. And how self-aware it seemed. Were they all like that? Another egg started shaking, and the herbalist's thoughts returned to following the Candidatemaster's directions and concentrating on welcoming the hatchlings to the world. Would one of them pick him?

Akaris
The young woman was determined to do her best today - minimal clinging, no shrieking, nothing but exemplary behavior! She would make A'ral and R'mor, and Zinath and Junenth, proud. She knew they believed in her, and that Vimiath and Talela did as well. She could make it through this, and not end up on the other side of a lecture...no matter how many genuinely frightening things there were for her to deal with here.

For now, at least, there was only one dragonet parading about, which was just fine by her. Wouldn't it be nice if they could all just hatch one at a time?

"He's very handsome," she noted, for indeed he was, especially from a safe distance. But then he got upset about something, and Rhianth bellowed, and Akaris jumped and squeaked softly and pressed a little closer to her friend. So much for not clinging.

Elyk

It was time. This being his second Hatching, it was with mixed feelings that Elyk quickly got himself ready as soon as word went around that the Hatching was upon them. Did he manage to impress one of the eggs back then? Certainly there were some he couldn't see himself working well together with, but there were some who felt like they might just be the one. He couldn't help but feel a little hopeful as he shifted his weight from one foot to another and watched quietly as the very first dragonet to emerge made its way across the sands to try to locate its own.

Candidate Makimton

He was sleeping peacefully when something intruded upon his sleep. Humming. Quiet humming slowly getting louder. It was time. He hustled himself out of bed. Was it really time? Were the dragons hatching? Where was his robe? Shaft it! Where had he put it? Makimton hunted around for a moment before coming up with the garment. He hurriedly pulled it on and joined the other candidates thronging toward the hatching sands. It was going to be a very, very busy day.

He marched onto the burning sands and bowed to the quintet of parents. Once done, his eyes were only for the eggs and the dragons coming from them. Makim tried to peer around the candidates ahead of him. He shuffled slowly around, trying to find a thinner throng to stand among. Makim finally got a peek at the first hatchling and smiled, nodding. A good strong bronze then. He could hear the sounds of other eggs getting ready to hatch.

He jumped as one of the gold's roared. Now what had caused that?

Candidate Nalacko

Also asleep, Nalacko groaned and pulled the covers further over her head. She'd heard something like this before? But where? It took several moments for her sleep fogged brain to pull out the required memory. Eggs on a beach somewhere. That's right. She'd heard the dragons humming as the eggs hatched, but it hadn't been as quiet as this. Suddenly Nala threw back the covers, her eyes wide. Dragons hummed when eggs were hatching!

She threw on her robe and raced to join the line filing into the hatching sands. As she got closer she started to hesitate. There was so many people here it was intimidating. Was this what she really wanted to do? So many people would be watching her. Including her father. For a moment she almost considered backing out, but the crush of candidates moved her forward.

Nala let herself lurk in the back. She looked around at the candidates around her, hopeful for a familiar face. None presented themselves, and she flinched when one of the adult parents roared. Oh boy. Maybe she'd just back out now?

The reaction from the little bronze's mother was a surprise and Shar glanced over in the direction the red-eyed glare was directed in. One of the Candidates looked a bit sheepish about something she must have thought since Shar hadn't heard anything, but nothing seemed to come from the warning other than the roar and the stare.

"Shards," she muttered to herself as the bronze began to meander around, looking at the boys. Things were starting off a bit tense, but as she had thought, nothing was going to be 'normal' about this Hatching.

"Stand up a little straighter, Riz, he's coming this way," she said, a teasing tone in her voice as her friend was already perfectly postured.

Cedarian
High Reaches Weyr was a far different place than Western Weyr. It was cold, for one thing, especially this late in the Turn; it was also larger, but somehow, stupidly crowded. It wasn't just the Western temporary transplants, but the sheer amount of people living in the Weyr surprised him. On the other hand, it was old and traditional; it was rigid, and part of the man was reminded of the strictness of home.

This is where C'rian had Impressed his brown; this is the hatching sands his brother had found His on. With the hatching now happening, the strawberry blonde man found himself more anxious than he had been at Western Weyr. Was it because his brother was present? Was it because he felt he now had to Impress? Extra pressure to succeed? Part of the pale man simply felt ill with anxiety... but another part of him was defiant.

No.

He... He would not bring this with him. He was Cedarian! He was clever, and smart, and charming, and he... He had double the chances. They all did. If his lifemate was not on these Sands then that was just as well. Perfection took time to create, after all. So, with an attempt at confidence, the boy walked proudly into the large Hatching Sands. He bowed to the parents, even though Rhianth and Fianth's red-eyes and snarls alarmed him, and he planted himself close enough to the eggs to get a good view.

A bronze hatched first --how respectable--but even Cedarian felt a small inclination to keep distance between himself and it. He remembered the posing bronze of Western's last Hatching, and that.... Had not gone well. He remembered what happened to D'mar and G'ryl.... He'd had a front row seat to that bloody affair.

But. That was neither here nor there. Let the lovely beast show off for the world. It had every eye on it, after all... But oh. When it hissed, and when Rhianth roared, even Cedarian gave a hard swallow. Someone must have done something stupid...

Zyamel
The first on the sand was a bronze, and Zyamel could not help but be pleased. Though a part of her was just a smidgen disappointed that the egg clearly was not meant for her, the fact that a bronze hatched first was auspicious for the Weyr. Surely, her mother and father would be pleased to see such a start..

Ah, but the hiss, and the bellow of Rhianth, was not quite as great a start. Well. At least it hadn't attacked...yet. Maybe whatever stupid thing the stupid girl had thought or done would be kept in check with that threat; and if not, she'd wind up in heaps of trouble, for sure. Such was life, though, and maybe Hatching's were better for it. Nobody needed idiots impressing, after all, especially after what Gr'del had gone through to teach them!

Lusialu
Oh...
Oh dear.

Her first Hatching and while it had seemed to be going well it also... It also seemed to be going not very well at all. The bronze dragon had hissed, Rhianth had roared, and the young girl felt herself involuntarily retreating a few steps. Unfortuantely, this meant she bumped right into someone behind her, stepping on their foot in the process.

"Oh! Oh dear. I'm s-sorry!" It came out half breathless, half a squeak, and she felt herself immediately coloring. She hoped her mother and brother and sister hadn't seen that; and oh, oh the dragonets were far bigger down here then they had ever appeared while watching up in the tiers. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts....

((If anyone wants to be accidentally stepped on. Feel free! Snobby boy and Zyamel are all open for whatever, too. The rest may come tomorrow.))

The purple and spotted Once Upon a Dream Egg continued to wiggle and wobble. Finally, with a loud crack, the egg split. A few more shakes, and wing claw appeared, gripping at the shell and pushing it open. With a loud squawk of protest, yet another bronze hatched, spilling out of its egg and stumbling onto the hot sands.

Its eyes whirled yellow-orange. There was trouble out here and he was greatly alarmed! Who needed saving?! Who needed help!? There was worry coming from the Candidates and this dragon wasn't going to sit idly by.

Casting a glance over at the group of candidates to where Shar had been looking, Rizdax couldn't see what she'd noticed but for her to say something meant that it was there. This wasn't the place or the time for fear or a lack of confidence, even though he himself had anxieties about that on these sands he had staunched them down as hard as he could and was standing as bravely and calmly as he could muster. A frown pulled at his face for one moment until Cavera appeared nearby and he reached out a hand as his face morphed into a grin. "You made it! Exciting isn't it?" He pulled her a bit closer so she was close enough for him to protect if the need arose and caught sight of Ielin just past her as he did. It definitely was safer for them to all be together and so he beckoned the larger man over with a grin.

With a suddeness there was a roar that caused his spine to straighten out even further than it was as every muscle in his body tightened up a bit, arms reaching out to cover both Shar and Cavera warily. Who had brought that reaction!? He was about to grumble a bit about it when Shar spoke right in his ear. "I... I am?" Riz responded but he turned his gaze to the green bronze dragon that was walking down the sands and around the candidates before him. She was right, he needed to not worry himself with anyone beyond his reach, she and Cavera and Ielin, Zamistia and anyone else within his reach were important but he needed to give these baby dragons the respect that they were due and this handsome bronze deserved it in droves.

"He's amazing, and he's got everyone's..." he trailed off as another egg burst open and suddenly there were two bronze dragons on the sands.

This was going to be awesome, what an amazing start to an amazing day already! Two handsome and glittering bronzes on the sands, he couldn't wait to see more of the eggs hatch but he gave his full attention to them. "Those two shiny guys are stunning aren't they?"

Ouch! Nyara’s foot! <3

Ruunan

With the Slytherin-bronze still inspecting the potential riders, and Firebolt shaking like a mad… well, egg… there wasn’t a lack of things to watch! To top if off, Once Upon a Dreak broke free, revealing yet another bronze. Ruunan gasped. Oh, Faranth… what if it was a clutch solely made of bronze dragons? What… no… Pern couldn’t handle that much Bronzeness. Not like that.

The newest addition seemed a mite worried, and Ruunan tilted his head to watch it. He tried to send it some thoughts filled with hope- we’re right here, and we’re fine- to soothe it somewhat. He was nothing if not a helpful lad- and these beautiful creatures needed them- possibly now more than ever.

She hopped from one foot to the other, the heat getting to the soles of her feet, her grin growing once more. Ah, this was so exciting! And look- ooof. Another candidate backed right into her. “Oh, steady now sweetie. It’s going to be okay.” Oh. Right. Humans were not herdbeasts. Sometimes it was hard to shift out of that register and tone and function like a normal person.

“Hey, are you okay? It’s all right to be nervous. You can stick by me, if it’ll help. We can do the Hatching dance together.” Nyara chuckled as demonstrated the foot-preserving jiggy, bouncing on the balls of her feet once more.

Rahmi | He/Him | HR

Rahmi had been mid-dream when the humming began and the call to head to the Sands had gone up. When what was going on registered, he vaulted out of bed to dress and head out. It was so early but he didn’t mind. The teen stretched and shook his extremities to help rouse himself further as he made his way to stand among his fellow candidates. Peering around to see where everyone was settling, Rahmi spied Ionan and Tizenia. Sidling over, he flashed a little smile. “‘Morning, Ionan. Morning, Tizzy.”

Oh! The Slytherin egg hatched a bronze! How exciting! He seemed very sure footed, very healthy. That was good luck, right? Flinching at the roar in response to the seeming slight to the baby, he frowned. Too early for being down. And not long after the Once Upon A Dream egg hatched another bronze! Both appeared quite spirited in their own ways! “Two of them,” He breathed. “Wow!”

Solameya | She/Her | HR

Having always been a light sleeper, when the call went up that the Hatching was starting, that the eggs were starting to stir, Solameya had been up and dressed in robe and sandals in no time. At the Sands, she greeted the parents appropriately and found a position amongst the girls to stand. The only indication of her hurry was the fact that her long, dark hair was loose. When Slytherin made the scene, she nodded approvingly. A bronze first, a good omen - or at least a lucky one - by many people’s reckoning. He was handsomely colored to be sure, and he already seemed highly assured of himself.

When apparently offended by some girl’s opinion, and the ensuing roar from his mother, Solameya stood stock still. She felt that roar in her bones. The message was abundantly clear: Best behavior and woe be to those foolish enough to disparage the babies. Seemingly in response to the tension, the first egg of the other clutch hatched too, another bronze at that, one ready for action. Two hatched eggs in and it was already looking quite interesting.

Tarnaria - High Reaches Candidate

This time, she hadn't been distracted! Well, technically she'd been asleep, but then everybody else had, too. Tarnaria had been pleased to show up on time with everybody else, this time much more focused on the eggs than she'd been before. Of course she supposed that, in her defense, she'd been occupied when the cry had suddenly gone out calling for Candidates to flock to a remote beach, and now she was... Okay, sleeping was a bit of something to occupy oneself, but...

She put a stop to the thoughts, watching in excitement as the two bronzes hatched. Oh but they were both so handsome!

Jacomus of Bronze Kraketh; Lady Grey of Rivercrest

With a deep thrumming hum, Kraketh appeared out of between. The bronze looked upon the great caldera that High Reaches called home for the first time since Uridith's eggs had hatched. Please don't get into another fight with a child, J'musmine. The dragon glanced back, amusement flashing in his eyes briefly, before he shifted his wings and aimed for a good spot to land.

"That was only because he picked my pocket! You don't pick a--" Jacomus closed his mouth, then leaned in to where Kraketh could hear him hiss, "You don't pick a pirate's pocket!"

"Oh you should worry more now, then, shouldn't you?" Behind Jacomus, a woman with snow-white hair gave his back a thumping pat. She was bundled up, despite the warmth Rivercrest and by extension Western Weyr held, intent on seeing this Hatching. "Just don't do something that'll embarrass your weyrmate and you'll be good."

Jacomus turned, pointing at the woman, "Don't forget who was thoughtful enough to bring you here."

"Oh, I'm sorry, it's not like I'm the one who's spent most of her life in and around Rivercrest..." Or enough of it... "Instead of hiding in a cave." She shifted, then looked down, humming. "How do I get down?"

Kraketh, in a moment of mischief, gave a very sudden shift, sending her tumbling to the ground.

"OH! How dare--!" She gave the dragon a glare as his rider climbed down. "Is he laughing..?!" A pause. "Can dragons laugh?"

Grinning, Jacomus offered his hand. "He is, yes, and they do."

Tell her she I like her hair, it IS quite pretty!

"He likes your hair, says it's pretty." Helping the woman up, Jacomus motioned to the stands, "And have a good time watching the hatching, Lady Grey. Nemo shouldn't be too long with Pekoe, hopefully."

Lady Grey gave a bit of a bow, "Thank you, Jacomus. I haven't been to a Hatching before, so this should be interesting!"

"They are, yeah... No fun if somebody doesn't get hurt, though." He grinned, thinking of his poor brother. In fact, there he was, already HIGH in the stands. "See you after the feast so I can take you back home!" Giving a wave, Jacomus headed for P'tius. Already there were two bronzes on the Sands, a wonderful sign. This was sure to be an exciting hatching!

Watching him go, Lady Grey hummed, then looked up at Kraketh, "Well, see you later, too." She reached up, smiling at the rumble the bronze gave her as she scratched his chin, then went to find a spot on the stands to watch from.

The hand that popped up in front of her made Shar raise a brow and she glanced along the arm it was attached to back to the owner. Rizdax had his arms outspread, keeping her and another Candidate behind him...as much as he could standing even with them, that is. She scoffed softly and reached up, pushing his arm down that was still in front of her. Yes, the roar of the gold had been loud and intimidating, but it wasn't as if the queen was looking at them. If she was Shar'd be more concerned.

"You look like a mountain wherry struggling to work up the courage to jump from its nest."

As soon as she spoke another egg hatched, this one from the second clutch. Another bronze tumbled out, this one looking less sassy and more intent on the noises. His yellow-orange eyes were trained on the Candidates immediately, focusing on them rather than preening as the Slytherin dragon had.

"Very," she agreed, able to appreciate a fine dragon when she saw one. Any dragon was stunning to her, and although she knew she'd never ride astride a bronze, she did admire their shine and coloration. "Perhaps if you stand up a bit straighter they'll come over to you."

Even as she spoke a little smirk twisted her lips, amusement clear in her voice. Ah, but he was fun to tease.

Helaku // He/Him // Western

Helaku's golden-brown eyes shot over towards Once Upon a Dream egg as it cracked open and spilled another bronze out onto the Sands. Well, it seemed both clutches were coming right out of the gates with metallics this morning! This one looked...much more distressed in the wake of Rhianth's roar than the still-better-keep-an-eye-on-it Slytherin bronze. Was he alarmed by the other clutch's dam? Was he worried about the bronze already on the Sands? Was it something else entirely?

The young man did his best to keep both dragonets in his field of vision, trying not to appear as though he were reaching for them unless they so happened to invite it. He rather thought Once Upon a Dream would be alright unless he decided he needed to go through people to his goal instead of around, but something about Slytherin tickled at a memory he tried not to recall of a certain bronze at Western's last Hatching... No, nope, not going to think about it! Not going to remember it, not going to disturb the precarious emotions of freshly-hatched dragons. Good thoughts, happy thoughts, hopeful thoughts. Snuggling with Spook, the smell of wherhide, the anticipation of perhaps meeting a lifemate out here. That was more like it.

"This will be good luck for both clutches, I hope," he murmured half, to himself. He really wanted this Hatching to go as well as possible for everyone.
