Kinyegele

What? Oh! "Right!" Kinye nodded once at Karone's instructions, kneeling down again to offer the little bronze hatchling another morsel. The little flitter stared it down with a contemplative intensity, rump wiggling slightly as he crept closer....and closer.......CHOMP! Kinye flinched out of reflex, even if those little teeth had avoided her skin and fingers altogether.

She didn't blame the little guy for being hungry, though. "When do I...stop feeding him?" she asked nervously, even as the little flitter began to sniff about her hand, looking for the next offering which came quickly.

-----

E'mel and Blue Brieteth (Naturally ineligible)

E'mel hadn't really had much of a desire to go see the hatching firelizards - as much as several others stirred to go to their opportunities. Brieteth was tenuously nervous at all times already, and the mere idea of one sent his beloved blue scrambling into fears that he was not enough. It was as far from the truth as possible, but E'mel had found he rather liked keeping his best buddy content and assured so he'd not even considered it. Out on their ledge Brieteth had been moping, head and front legs half hanging over the edge in a usual show of sadness. He'd lost a noticable amount of weight during his month with the healers and even now was barely getting his proper form back. The lazy moping helped, in a way.

Before he could reach out to offer a nudge of optimism, however, Brieteth's head shot up like most of the boys did when a pretty thing took to the sky. Oh? E'mel waited patiently to see what would happen as the little blue scrambled up to his feet, all but leaning off the side of his ledge as though it would get him closer to whomever he was speaking with. Loreleth? he asked, knowing no other dragon elicited such eagerness from his lifemate as the younger blue did.

If you are going, we will be there. Brieteth answered, though he pulled E'mel into the thought as he spoke it, looking imploringly towards the young man. Maybe he should have asked first. E'mel stepped out onto the ledge to offer a fond pat on Brieteth's nose, however. "We'll just stay back and away from the firelizards, then," E'mel answered, then quickly went to change up a bit. It'd be warmer on the beach than High Reaches, after all.

----

Brieteth had all but forgotten about the firelizards in the last five minutes, but seeing them had made the little blue carefully set himself between E'mel and the growing crowd. Peering curiously over what heads he could see over, every time one of the little shells cracked, the blue leaned closer into his bonded who in turn would pat his side. "I don't even have food, buddy. They won't want me, I promise," he assured, but Brieteth looked at him with a faint, deep-throated keen.

For all of the excited hub-bub about the beach - several other dragons that made the view not so straight shot - it took a minute before E'mel nudged Brieteth's side and nodded towards where J'lar and Loreleth had landed. "I'll stand so J'lar is in the way, hmm?" he offered. Little more was needed as the paler blue half-jogged away from him to bump his head against Loreleth's in greeting. I missed you.

R'tansky of Bronze Atalith

From his spot upon the sands Atalith let out a deep croon before reaching out towards Lila. The bronze had taken quite a liking to the young woman and he wanted to try and help reassure her just as his rider was. You are doing wonderfully. He tinged his words with reassurance. A flit would be lucky to have you.

Once she had knelt R'tansky knelt beside her. Dark eyes moved to look away from Lila for a moment and towards the others around. He was very much aware of looks he was getting. He was an unaffiliated rider after all and many others like him had flocked back to weyrs after Thread had returned...he had just not been able to make himself do that.

"Well if it starts to get too crazy and you want to leave just tell me." He didn't know what she was going entirely, he had never been addicted to Felis, but he did know about it being too loud and just wanting to get away from the people. He did hope that she managed to impress a flit before she felt she needed to leave or it got too much. Perhaps having a little flit to care for would help her confidence.

Bukichi

A firelizard clutch... Two firelizard clutches? Bukichi could feel his tension thrumming tightly through his body like a string, watching the small creatures emerge from their shells. Just like Humble, he reminded himself, watching those sharp teeth greedily bite at the proffered meat. Small predators, but... Aryale was at his side. She'd invited him, after all, and a simple hop through the bone-chilling cold of Between... and here they were.

He was watching the gathered company, taking in the excited faces, the dragons crouched nearby. Dark eyes darted back to the clutches, then to Aryale. "Meat, huh?" He murmured. "So you just feed the little things until they're too stuffed to do much but sleep?" Made sense. They were babies, after all....

Not that he was even sure if one of the babies would find much interest in him, anyway. Still, if nothing else, this was gaining firsthand experience.... though firelizards were nothing like baby dragons.

N'ran of blue Khukith

N'ran waved the bit of meat in front of the hatchlings, but none of them seemed interested. "Maybe I need a bigger piece of meat?..." he muttered to himself. He abandoned the small bit he had and tore of a much larger piece from the meatroll. "Here flit flit flit," he said, slowly waving the gobbet in front of their cheeping, hungry little mouths. "Come and get it..."

Azrael of Brown Eldwinth

Hmmm...

Azrael turned his head to look at the brown where he was laying outside of his tent. The man was in the process of playing his violin, practicing the songs he used during his act. The green firelizard Minuet was perched on his shoulder her head moving to the rhythm of the music and as it stopped she gave an indignant squeak and turned slightly red laced eyes towards Eldwinth.

"What?" While he was curious Azrael was hesitant when it came to his bonded. Long legs carried him towards the opening as he watched Eldwinth turn his head away and look off into the distance. The little blue firelizard Forte was lightly tapped with the bow to stop him from eating pages of music.

"Eldwinth..." His tone was deeper as he spoke, eyes narrowing as he watched the brown.

There is a firelizard clutch happening on a beach somewhere. I was just thinking that it would be nice to enjoy a day on the beach... There was a scoff as the man turned to walk back into the tent and go back to his playing. The last time you were on a beach you DID enjoy it, if I remember correctly. There was a smirk of some kind heard in those words as Azrael paused in his movement, his back rigid.

"What would I do with another firelizard? I already have two."

Another assistant is always nice. Perhaps one better trained then Forte. Besides there is always a chance you may get to see her again. Eldwinth turned his head to look at his bonded as he stood still, wondering if his words would even work. There was a sigh and then Azrael moved to put his violin away. He emerged from the tent carrying the case as well as a bag of jerky.

"Very well. It would be nice to have another competent firelizard for an assistant." Forte creeled for a moment before he contented himself with going to his nest with another piece of music. Minuet alighted from Azrael's shoulder and moved over to the blue watching him closely. "Please make sure he doesn't destroy much while we are gone my dear." A sweet crone answered him as Azrael moved to secure everything to the straps and then placed himself upon Eldwinth's back. The last thing he did was pull up the black bandanna that covered the lower part of his face forgoing the bandages at this moment.

Eldwinth took off once everything was secure and then they were going.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Appearing over the beach Azrael paused some as he saw the people that were there. This is a bad idea...

You haven't even tried. Eldwinth circled for a moment before he landed upon the sand, eyes watching everything that was going on. Azrael slipped from the straps and sighed softly very obviously not fitting in on the beach with his black pants, though the light gray shirt didn't make it too hot. Freeing his violin Azrael moved a little to the edge of everything and sat down cross legged, placing some of the jerky in front of him. Once this was complete he did his best to ignore everyone around him and slowly and softly began to play his violin.

Aryale (Also very not eligible, but I don't even have to say it but :V I feel like I should)

Humble had taken a liking to Bukichi and the whole thing had sounded like a good opportunity for him. Luckily for Aryale, she hadn't had to work too hard to get him to come along.

"Mmhmm," she confirmed as she idly tore the meat she'd gotten from her dad, who had taken a spot farther up the way and really out of sight of the little things, into pieces, slowly offering chunks to Bukichi. "I think it's because their moms usually feed them and then they bond to her, but instead it is to us because we're feeding them," though that there were no wild firelizards standing post made Aryale idly ponder if perhaps they'd had a green mother.

Or a gold would come sailing out of the sky and latch to somebody's face.

Still, she bumped her shoulder into Bukichi's arm in silent assurance. He'd be fine.

Candidate Helane

Helane loved the beach, it was one of the biggest things she missed living in High Reaches weyr, was the closeness to the sea, she might not be ON the sea, but paddling in it for the fun was a breath of fresh air for her. She was so happy today and was laying on the sand, letting the waves lap at her feet, eyes closed soaking up the sun when two of her fellow candidates rushed towards the group, grabbing food before running off yelling something about flits.

At first Helane wasn't going to go, news of the recent Flight had her a little down as she was aware she wasn't going to attend that hatching, it wasn't until she realised, perhaps she could prove she could actually be responsible enough by raising a Flit, surely if she could raise one, her worthiness to Stand would show through, maybe......

So she grabbed some cold meatrolls and ran behind the girls, hoping to Impress one of the little creatures, she'd never had a pet, never really thought of owning one, it hadn't been practical on the boats, but here, stuck in one place, perhaps they could be company for each other when Helane was left alone. She was excited now, she could maybe earn the privilege of Standing again, and gain a new friend in the process. She sat near the clutches, practically vibrating with her effort to keep quiet

Wione had taken her time meandering over to the center of the action, waving to Keleres as she slid down behind her and took off with more intent towards the crowd. The beach was thronging with youngsters (or at least those candidates who were younger than herself still) and other, more eager riders, and the noise of their chatter was compounded upon by the sudden swell of creeling and fluttering wet wings. It was chaos, really, there on the sand; wonderful, glorious, vibrant chaos! Honestly she wouldn't have been surprised if a party broke out at this rate... though then again, given that the main of the people present were from High Reaches, maybe not.

Still, who couldn't smile at the cute little hatchlings? She knew that Findith was watching as much as she could through her eyes, and she could hear the green's whine at the sight of the first few already gorging in the arms of some of the lucky folks who'd arrived earlier. "Excuse me, pardon!" She chimed to those nearest her, squeezing into the crowd with the flash of an apologetic, friendly smile to those on either side of her. A hand thrust into her pack to rummage for the tightly packed bit of slivered wherry, gently breaking it further into smaller, soft and mealy bits to hold out in her palm for any more than came trailing by.

For some long minutes she focused on attracting the eye of one of the hatchlings and little else, not even looking up from beneath the tousled blonde curls of her bangs when she felt a little thrill of delight from her green—who probably had only just seen one of the little firelizards and gotten worked up. "Come on then, come on...!" She called to one as it wandered by, lightly bouncing the meat on her palm to try to catch its eye. Odds were the poor thing wouldn't hear her, not over the hubbub... but she heard something then, breaking softly over the dull roar of the crowd in musical strains. An instrument was such a clever choice, sure to help the player get more attention (and lending more fuel to the gather-like atmosphere if you asked her), and she looked up, blue eyes roving the faces of the crowd to find the brilliant soul who'd—!!

He was directly across the pit of hatchlings and wiggling eggs, and she had no idea how she'd missed the man unless he'd arrived after she had, as stand-out as he was. Still, there he was... fate and chance indeed! Without hesitation, she nudged the person kneeling beside her, shoved her bit of meat into their hands, and then levered herself up, weaving away through the masses towards the other side of the group, a literal skip in her step and an even wider smile on her lips. She came up alongside the man, from the right, casually wedging herself between him and the next nearest person, and then, heedless of any eyes upon them, or the still-scrambling rush for the firelizards, leaned in to plant a kiss upon his cheek through the dark cloth there.

"Of all the beaches on all the islands in all of Pern, looks like this is the one to be on today. A treat for me, I'd wanted to hear you play since you mentioned it before." She idly let her gaze move back to the eggs, reaching out to snag some of his own meat to hold in offering towards any hungry babies. "I'd been thinking to get one of these, so that you didn't always have to send your two to find me... It's good to see you!" She was familiar, she was forward... hopefully he wouldn't be bothered by it. He certainly hadn't been the last time they'd met.

Frankly, it was a mess. Flits were all over the place, crawling around on their individual quests for sustenance. Some ignored the humans altogether, or at least appeared to. One in particular was very adventurous, moving as mindlessly as a fish in its obsessive hunt for food. It crawled underneath a squatter, dodged around a foot meant to stop or distract it, and turned up its nose at the offering of one person who forgot that firelizards needed meat.

Useless!

A few had turned to follow it wherever it was going, but it ignored them. It seemed the little thing preferred to stay wild… and to prove it, it pounced onto a pantleg that seemed especially threatening. It wouldn’t be able to do much damage to Y’mar, but it could do a LOT of damage to, say, a meatroll…

———

WHY SUCH NOISE?

That’s what this little flit would have said if it could speak. It was still curled in upon itself among the remains of its and its siblings’ eggshells, too overwhelmed by all the cooing and laughing and other noises the Big Things were making. It wanted to keep hiding, but its hunger was steadily getting too strong to ignore. Peeping one yellow-white eye open, it looked around its immediate surroundings and then darted over the rim of the nest and underneath a clump of seaweed-encrusted driftwood.

Food was nearby, so close, it could smell it! The firelizard drooled a little as it peered out from its hiding place to see where it was. Someone was holding it out calmly and quietly. Maybe… it was safe?

Tuelarua’s jerky received a quick chomp, and the little hatchling ducked back under its driftwood haven. Perhaps if she held it a bit closer, it wouldn’t have to come so far out of that safe place to take another bite?

O'len and Brown Aleyath

Aleyath was always up for a beach visit, visions of O'len's youth at Black Sand Hold having danced in his head since he was a hatchling, so when Kree popped into their weyr with reports of a clutch of flits ripe for the taking, the brown perked up immediately, his request to see if they could nab one more of a demand.

You don't even like firelizards, O'len said, his mindvoice amused.

Y...es, I do. In truth, Aleyath only wanted one so that he might pretend he had stolen it from someone else. Another treasure spirited away by his dexterous claws, rather than forced into his life like the one that was already here.

    Well, if you insist...

    - - -

They landed at a speed that wasn't the most accommodating to those around them, spraying sand in a wave as they skidded to a stop.

There! Go. Aleyath bounced as O'len slid to the ground, allowing Kree to perch on his shoulder without issue as he watched his rider carefully advance across the sands, a meatroll in his hand.

P'tius and brown Lennoth

A rest day was a welcome thing, and as much as P'tius liked being up at High Reaches, he DID rather miss the warmth of the Southern Continent. When Lennoth landed, he found a spot to simply relax and enjoy the sun, how it felt as it warmed his skin and hair, how it made it necessary to take off a couple layers, the sound of the waves on the shore...

P'tiusmine, wake up, there are tiny cousins afoot!

Stirring where he'd falling asleep, P'tius sat up, stretching and yawning. "What's afoot, now?" Then he heard the chirps and excited sounds of other people. "Oh."

You have some meat in your bag, don't you? Go offer them some![/sienna]

"Are you wanting somebody tiny around to make you feel even bigger?"

Lifting his head, Lennoth gave a little sniff. I know not what you talk about. Then he turned his multifaceted eyes to P'tius. You should hurry, you know, before they fly off.

Shaking his head in amusement, P'tius got up and dug through his bag, "Fine, fine..." He sighed just a bit, finding the meat he'd brought along. With careful steps, he went over to where everybody was gathered and crouched, holding the meat out temptingly. Perhaps a flit WOULD look his way... It was surely safer than dragon hatchings, after all. What damage could something so tiny do?

PostPosted: Wed May 08, 2019 3:29 pm
Bukichi had gotten over his apprehension of Humble... though it had been extremely unpleasant when he'd yawned one day and she'd taken the opportunity to shove her entire snout inside of his mouth. He accepted the pieces of meat, frowning at her as he listened. "Do they stay with their mothers, then? The wild ones?" He paused as two blue firelizards emerged--with one having enough bravery to leap upon an offending pant leg, while the other seemed more happy to hide.

A quick glance reassured him that his sibling was not present... and hopefully wouldn't be for at least a sevenday. If Matotoka had been stupid enough to let his guard down before, he certainly wouldn't be now. That was enough to make him smile a bit grimly to himself, though the bump drew him back out of his thoughts.

It was probably best that Aryale hadn't mentioned how protective a golden mother might be...

Haveli

Haveli was on the beach, mostly because as a candidate she was brought along with all the others, and partly because she needed a break from the Weyr. Plus the chance of a firelizard wasn't too hard to pass - her sister had a dragon, so settling for a smaller version wasn't such a bad idea. She had some food to give, if any lizard wanted it, and slowly she picked her way through the crowd.

One simply did not run on the hatching sands.

---

Mirce

Meanwhile Mirce was thinking of running back to Ocy and heading to the Weyr. Several people had managed to attract some cute firelizards so it wasn't like they were out there on a lie - but she felt awkward. She knew all these faces, minus the ones from Western, but they didn't really know her. There was no need to be that afraid, right?

Plus fear wouldn't help attract a new friend.
