The wind came back and Nzambith held her ground once more, but this time the force was too much. Nzambith grunted softly but flew on, the workdragon she was, but Vennodren felt her pain. He'd keep an eye on that and if it got worse, they'd head back to the Weyr to get it checked out.

Shaking off the strain, Nzambith and Venn finally got to work. A huge patch of Thread fell directly before them and Nzambith didn't need to be urged by Venn to flame away. The Thread burned up quickly and they flew on, ready to continue.

o'len and aleyath roll 1a/5
It felt routine, if a little windy. Aleyath spotted Thread, he blinked Between, but when he reappeared, it was gone. For a second he thought another member of his wing had taken care of it, that was until he heard the shriek from below.
Oh no.
Don't think about it. O'len's words were businesslike and almost bolstering, but the brown could feel his rider's instant regret, a sharp sting in his chest. He had to try to keep on track, despite their poor start.

There was more Thread everywhere it seemed, so on and on they flamed. It wasn't until a large clump sailed by that Vennodren realized a bit late that they hadn't refreshed their firestone since they began. Nzambith attempted to flame the Thread, but her flame fizzled out about halfway there. Whoops.
"Here you go," Venn called as Nzambith turned back, mouth open for more firestone.

Chewing on the stone, Venn and Nzambith flew strong and steady, eyes ready for the next clump to fall. It always got him a bit anxious when they were flying up in the high altitudes and no Thread fell. It was almost like a huge clump was going to come and Venn found himself looking over his shoulder more often than not.

Well, that was a rather rude awakening. The moment K'mar and Vith joined their wing for the first time in Threadfall and the wind nearly knocked them out of position. Vith strained to hold their spot but grimaced as he felt something in his wing twinge. Great...that boded well.

I felt it. Don't worry, we'll keep an eye on it. If it gets bad we'll go back real quick. Nothing to worry about!
His rider's confidence chased Vith's embarrassment away and the brown gave a little trumpet of renewed vigor.
Despite their poor showing at the start, O'len and Aleyath did a decent job for a while after that. They darted about scorching Thread, until, well, Aleyath's flame was less than effective. At least no one in their immediate vicinity was horribly injured this time.

Recovering from the early mistake was hard, but Vith kept his focus as they flew. Being in the High Altitude wing was difficult to start in as you went from being cold on the ground to being high-intensity instantly and perhaps it was a bit extra hard since it was their first flight ever. Yes they had trained for this, but that had been years ago, and true they had stayed in shape between then and now on their adventures, but Thread didn't fight like humans did. It just fell. Wherever it wanted. Which was right on top of them.
Before Vith and K'mar jumped between, a voice called out to them and a dark blue streak flamed his way towards them, saving them from the sheet of Thread. It was just as well, because the spot they had picked to return to after their journey between ended up getting swamped by Thread not a moment later.
Thank you, Loreleth, Vith said, sending a massive wave of appreciation with his words. The blue was small, but he was a fighter.

Tiernoth flexed her wings, hovering for a moment to try to work out the sore muscle in her wings as she crunched on a new mouthful of firestone. Yet neither her nor her rider had been paying attention to the wind as it blew a stray clump of thread into her rider. Her hearts near stopped hearing his scream, fearing the sear through their bond as it ate into his riding helmet, bit into his shoulder, arm, back.
An order Between had her snapping to comply, waiting a beat... two..... three....
Four.......
Before the pair returned, the little green's eyes a pure white as she was visibly shaken at the pain lacing through their bond.

No, I'm fine.. Zi'aso's entire body felt as if it had been dragged through the fire, his ear ringing from shock and pain. His fingers probed the side of his face, bring back flakes of frozen red before a gust of wind carried them away. Keep on, we can keep going. Tiernoth wasn't apt to argue with him, wanting to fight in place of better dragons who currently could not.. But her hearts were heavy with guilt over an injury to Hers that she had caused.
3-8. A particularly nasty tangle of Thread falls through the Wings. Unfortunately, it is doomed to tangle upon one unsuspecting rider! Damage Individual Moderate Damage: -7 HP
It was like the wind was conspiring against them. Still feeling a bit shaken from missing a clump earlier, Aleyath pressed hard to stay in formation, concentrating more than he had since his first battle with the enemy.

After that spectacular save from his wingmate, Vith felt like he had to do something helpful now. And it seemed their chance was finally upon them! A large sheet of Thread fell and K'mar spotted it before Vith, but it was with one mind that they soared forward. Vith let out a breath of fire and seared the silvery death from the sky with one movement.
"Ha! There we go!" K'mar crowed, Vith's chest swelling with pride. Protecting ships and moving goods was fine, but this was what he was made for. K'mar could feel Vith's satisfaction and he had to admit, this was much more fun than crossing swords with someone.

Emboldened by their success, Vith turned and opened his mouth as K'mar tossed a bit more stone into his maw. Crunching away, Vith searched for the next Thread to flame, but was so focused on his search that he chomped right down on his tongue, ichor mixing with the taste of the stone. Shards!

The pain from the bitten tongue made Vith distracted, and a strong gust of wind blew them off course, buffeting them into a bit of Thread. A quick jump between solved the problem before it got too bad, but it was clear Vith was exhausted.
Easy, Vith, Take it easy, take a breather, K'mar instructed, not wanting his dragon to push himself too hard. Vith took K'mar's words to heart, letting his body rest even as he kept in formation as best he could.
