"Understood!" The tools were brought, by a candidate and the journeyman made sure his hands were clean and his own guts were steeled as he moved over. Gut wounds were never beautiful, but now was neither the time nor place to think of the roll he was feeling. Tris wasn't exactly someone he disliked, though lately he wasn't sure the feeling was mutual.

But again, neither the time nor place, and he instantly fell into routine. "Just tell me what you need, and I'll follow." It looked like redwort was done, and the fellis - well, guts weren't exactly the stomach and therefore it wouldn't be an issue. He knew this man knew what he was doing and so the thought had been barely a flicker. A deep breath was issued as he prepared to smear and shove and do whatever else if took to stop the bleeding, stop the dying, and the keening of that dragon.

He could prepare some moist covers for when it was done, but for now? He worked on getting the soiled clothing out of the way, careful not to become underhand as it were.

Vetica was practically out of her straps the moment Shanaloth landed, the green clearly favoring the side where she'd been hit even as the woman ducked under her wing to get a better look at the damage and the sprawling curling burns that had begun to spread over it all.

One of the most horrific aspects of Tristram's role during Threadfall was checking for thread that had survived between. It was rare, but in a case like this, with such a humid and warm environment, he didn't take any chances. When they had begun it was easy enough to fall into a rhythm. "Veikel, ready sutures." From the careful scan he was able to do as he literally sewed the man back together, there was no sign of any remaining thread. He could breathe. ... Not that anyone would want to, just now, but he could. "Candidate, more redwort. Lives depend on it. Move!"

The process was tense and grueling, especially with the pained cries of the dragon, who was not actively spilling ichor at the moment, but watching her wounded rider. "Someone get a Gold down here!"

"Here." The sutures were ready and handed in time, the pair working like a well oiled.....thing that gets oiled. Suture, sew, redwort, cleaning, numbweed. He had all the steps for what needed to be done written down in chapters inside his mind; it was safe Tristram was much the same. So many turns of practice made it so some things could almost be done blindfolded, not that that was a kink Veikel was interested in trying out.

Maybe if someone else wore the blindfold.

His head really hurt, that was why he was thinking like this, and he needed to focus. Someone was coming to calm the keening dragon down and the rider wasn't going to die, and he wasn't hrrking really badly. Not a rough start for the Fall, really.

"I'll handle the clean up if you've approved and want to move on. No need for your hands to stay tied up."

Breathe.

The man was going to live. His little green had brought him just in time. "He's cleared for your care, Veikel. Watch this one. You know the procedures." With the man in good hands, he was free to move on to the next cot. Tristram was hardly the only healer on hand, but this was his specialty. He was used to tough cases.

The dragon was keening softly, terrified out of her mind. And had Tristram the means, he would have calmed her himself. But he did not. He would need to rely on a queen dragon. And shaffit, the next cot called. "Candidate, where is my redwort?" He was going to have to talk to A'ral after this.

rheasilvia & gold eirinth

Rhea had yet to find the perfect solution to ease her love’s fretting each Threadfall. Though as a queen Eirinth knew how to keep a serene and dignified aura in the midst of a tense atmosphere, she could not hide her stream of worries from the woman. So many little ones to reach out to and wish well, so many little steps to prepare...And always the chance that someone would pay the ultimate sacrifice. How she wished she could fly higher with the rest, spread her wings to the limit and blanket her charges rather than the other way around.

Already on high alert to smother the anxious with love, Eirinth turned to soothe a wailing green even before Rheasilvia passed the call on. < He is in capable hands, sweet, brave girl, > the gold soothed, not so much outright commanding the green to calm down as she did press a weighty blanket to her consciousness, swaddling with care as she had watched Rhea done to her own children over the turns. < Won’t you give them the space they need to help him? >

She wasn't eager to send her beloved back up into danger so soon, so that the Healer seemed to agree that it looked bad was alright by Vetica, who had, with great effort, peeled herself from their side to pull the green's head into her chest, stroking her eye ridges silently.

Veena looked over the wound with a serious expression. "Be more careful with her. She'll stand the rest of your shift if you do - otherwise you may find yourself with much more downtime," the Master Healer advised before waving them off.

pency & blue rekamuth (star flame 2nd wave)

Paciseth’s cold look seemed to slip off the blue like water on hide. < Then what is it time for? > Rekamuth asked innocently, now stretching his back legs as he laid out on the ground. < Brooding is terribly energy consuming. Wouldn’t you much rather enjoy what you can before work? Even just the simple and comforting touch of a wingmate? >

This seemed in poor taste, given the background of healers barking orders, kreeling dragons, and the growing smell of ash as it felt harmlessly down. But not even Threadfall could put a damper on his mood. He thought it was quite a valiant trait of his.

Pency glanced at J’hcre just long enough to nod politely and grunt a hello, then pocketed his hands and slouched against his dragon with a forced casual air. His tapping foot belied his true feelings. If he didn’t try to vent his energy now, he’d probably vibrate on his seat all the run through; at this point, most or all of Star Flame might have picked up on his behavior pre-Fall. It didn’t help when they heard the mournful cries of dragons above, and his tapping went double time.

Pency hadn’t chosen to become a dragonrider for the fame and generally had a good heart, but he was no hallmark rider. If this was how nervous he got during the light fall, he couldn’t begin to imagine how it’d go when it got heavier. When the threat of death became that much easier. He wondered if it was possible to get kicked out of a wing through sheer incompetence, or if Western Weyr would hold onto even the biggest idiots out of desperation...

Rekamuth hummed idly, a counter melody to the death song above and the stream of thoughts within.

< Did you know we recently celebrated 9 turns here? > he told the greenrider pair, pleased as pie, gushing nothing but good things to his rider to drown out the cycle of bad thoughts. < I was just telling Mine that we needed to celebrate~ Any ideas? >

Candidate Nikal (open for interaction!)

It was when healers were needed most that Nikal did his best to vanish. He wasn’t always successful—sometimes he was found anyway, sometimes he had no choice but to work closely—but it was a predictable action. Saying he hated Threadfall wasn’t the whole picture. Neither was saying he hated working under familial supervision during Threadfall in the tents specifically. Mentioning his fear of failing at a crucial moment, of having his shortcomings become an actual punishment to someone other than himself, barely scratched the surface. It was a knot of complex emotions that had been building ever since he unsuccessfully walked the tables at the Healer Hall, and today was not going to suddenly change that.

How’s Tai? he asked Gauze. The blue reported from his hiding place that some guy was speaking to her, and when Nikal got a glimpse of said man’s face, he wanted to roll his eyes. Gross. But when Gauze returned, he did slip him a treat before sending the flit out of the way. He didn’t need a spy to know where Veikel was: no doubt off to once more burn the candle at both ends with the other healers when he should have been recovering from his own illness. Only Nikal was sure if his brother kept at it, he’d just set the place on fire. And also himself.

(As always, he tried not to think about the fact that Veikel, he who got lightheaded at the sight of blood, had more spine in the midst of a war.)

R’mor called the riders up, and with a sigh Nikal dipped into an infirmary tent and towards his grudging duty. Not lucky today. He kept his head down and focused boiling numbered as activity quickly picked up around him.

Qiana [WW] - 28 - she/her/hers - Fire Storm Wingsecond of White Amairrith -- First Wave

...pre-Threadfall announcement…

Of course, Phylideth. You can count on us. We will support you in any way. Amairrith puffed up with a sense of great importance, casting her gaze over the assembled wing. It was going to be okay. They had trained for this. This was their duty.

Qiana smiled slightly- not directly related to Dhawsn, though he too could bring a smile to her freckled face. Amairrith had been so proud since their promotion; and working with T’mor, whilst challenging in its own way, had been a test of her love and loyalty to her extended Weyr-family. Every wingmate mattered, each she had come to know- and they would thrive under T’mor’s leadership. Of this she had no doubt- and both she and Amai would be there to ensure they were successful.

“S’no good, Daws.” She shook her head, her smile one of mingled pity and sympathy. Candidacy was restrictive, but for good reason. When- not if- he Impressed, he’d have to commit even more. “Sure. I’ll see ya later, then.” She lifted her hand in a wave, chipper as ever. “See ya on the other side.”

With that all said and done, she trekked back across the bowl to join Amairrith and her wing.

...post-Threadfall announcement…

The tone was sombre and serious, but stirring in its own way. Of course they had a duty. They fought for each other, for the world they had been given to save. Qiana lay her hand on Amairrith’s snout, having finished replaiting her hair and buckling her helmet. Ready?

Always. As Qiana mounted, she lovingly stroked the white hide beneath her gloves. At your signal, Phylideth. The white spoke quietly, tense and ready. It was time.

Arkhesia [WW] - 82 - she/her/hers - Rider of Green Sihrseth

...pre-Threadfall announcement…

A flicker of anger surged, fire renewed with such casual, easy words. And yet Sihrseth knew there was no harm meant, no ill-intention… Arkhesia’s own temperance balanced her in a way she could never be alone. She saw Taeslith as a dragon who would fight in her stead- and as such, deserving of all of her strength and courage.

I will be the fiercest supporter here, just you see. Her mindvoice was charged with anger, but it was not directed at her fellow green. There was nothing to be done about her tail now. The stump of what remained would take time to adjust to, to understand. I’ll recover soon enough. Nothing will keep me out of the air for long.

Arkhesia returned the wave, privately glad Sihrseth had another dragon to converse with. She fretted enough flying one wave instead of a full Fall. Now she couldn’t even fly at all, poor thing. Her smile was genial and soft, well-intentioned for the young woman who would soon be up there, doing what they should. “Winds carry you safely back to us, rider.” She spoke quietly, her voice rather prim and proper.

...post-Threadfall announcement…

“We should make room for the healers and the injured…” Arkhesia ran a distracted hand through thinning curly hair, glancing up at Sihrseth. Sometimes, moral support was important too. She only wished to not be a burden on those who fought valiantly.

Siiiighhhhh.

Y’know, most folks actually sigh, instead of saying it?

Huuuuh. I bet they do. The bored drawl almost perfectly concealed his mounting worry. T’rik laid a hand on his snout, the comfort of his warm-smelling, leathery hide as soothing to his nerves as dry humour was to Kiyanarth.

It’s going to be okay.

Of course it is. How could it not be? A three-legged king is going to show them exactly how to do things. Just you see. He shifted slightly, glancing around at his wingmates. As long as incompetence and bad flying conditions did not prevail, they’d do all right. Yes. Almost quite good, actually.

T’rik’s smile turned a little at the corners, hazel eyes dancing with mirth.

...post-Threadfall announcement…

Pre-flight jitters?

No. That’s dumb. Silly boy. He ruffled his wings for the thousandth time, watching the first wave of the Flame's Fury prepare to fly.

It was a nice speech.

Yes, if you’re one for sentimental tradition. I like mine with a bit more ‘burn everything and let nothing past’.

T’rik chuckled, shaking his head. Better let him be derisive now than later- listening was sometimes a difficult thing for the blue.

Candidate Kyzier
Kyzier was going to rock this threadfall. It would be their first threadfall helping out as a candidate, and they couldn't be more excited. What would they be needed for? Bandage rolling? Bed preparing? Getting horribly in the way? Wait, maybe not that last one. They made a bit of a face, rocking back on their heels, as they watched the dragons take off. Someday, that would be them. Flying in the air, fighting thread, being sharding useful. Rising to the top. Living the dream. All that fun stuff. Harpercraft who?

Until then, they'd make the best of what they had. They stared up at the sky, the image of the dragons soaring off to meet thread burned into their eyes. They couldn't be more proud to be a candidate. Even if candidates were (supposedly) the lowest of the low, it was still a great honor to stand for a clutch. And besides, the "lowest of the low" bit didn't last too long. Someday, they'd have some power, some rank to call their own.

Sighing, they figured they'd do what they were told to do, and began doing the dull task of wrapping bandages and preparing first aid items. Occasionally, they'd scurry off to clean or prepare beds, or whatever they were instructed to do. They balked at the direction, but even they recognized the power of a well-oiled machine. Still, a well-oiled machine could stop and chat, right? They turned their eyes towards a nearby candidate. "Hello, I'm Kyzier. Got your sights set to the skies, too?" They asked, with a laugh.

Eo'ryn of Green Taeslith
Shards, Taeslith hoped she hadn't angered the green. But...although Sihrseth's voice was angry, indeed, the green seemed more frustrated with her situation. Thank Faranth.

Yes! I'm sure you will! Taeslith agreed, voice full of relief, before pausing. Thank you for...supporting us? Yes, I really appreciate all that support. And soon, you'll join us in the air, too. Awkwardly, Taeslith tried to make amends for her verbal slip up, as she offered a sweet croon to Sihrseth.

Eo'ryn, for her part, nodded to Arkhesia, grinning. "Thank you. I'm sure Taeslith appreciates all of the support too." She shot a teasing glance towards Taeslith, who glared right back at her. "Anyways, I'm Eo'ryn, of Taeslith."

They were surprisingly silent as they appeared in the bowl, both well aware that something was terribly wrong but unwilling to draw attention when it was needed elsewhere.

o'len and aleyath
round two, roll 2/5

O'len winced as he emerged from the water, mostly due to the pain that burrowing Thread had left behind, but also because... he was wet. The sensation of soaking fabric pressed against new Threadscore was wholly unpleasant, and a breathy laugh escaped him as he was escorted out of the tub and led, limping, to the nearest cot. Even though he could feel that Aleyath was being attended to, he still spared his dragon a look as he took a seat.

"We're going to start with some numbweed." The healer addressing him didn't waste any time, slathering him with chilly salve. "Then we'll see if you can return to the fight."

The landing was far rougher than Theath ever had done before, but with the ichor that dripped from her neck, leg, and side she was given permission by her rider to do it however sharding she wanted. The dragon was in pain, Euryale was in pain, and as soon as she landed the redhead was ripping off her clothes in an effort to get the burning to stop. Her shoulder looked horrible, she could barely stand on her leg, but all her thoughts were towards her dragon.

That, and not having her husband find her. Theath, don't you dare call for Miryath or A'star. They need to focus. As much as she wanted to see her husband and collapse in his arms, now was not the time. They would do it when everything was done and over, when the Fall had passed for the day.

If Gold return with +28 HP total! Status Effect Removed!

Quickly the pair was swarmed by healers, with Theath being dunked down and cleaned and wrapped in almost record time. Euryale was much in the same boat, her wounds covered and treated and her clothing put back on, and the healer who aided gave the all clear. Things apparently weren't as bad as they'd appeared despite all the ichor - Euryale chided herself since she knew Theath was such an easy bleeder- and soon she was back mounted.

We're almost done, we'll be fine. Don't worry, tonight we'll all sleep together. The green gave a weak agreement as she pressed herself up and jumped Between, taking the pair back out.

roll 1: You check in on your dragon to ensure they're doing all right. Thankfully, your dragon responds that they're feeling fine. All that training and practicing is coming full circle, as your dragon isn't feeling particularly fatigued. If they are suffering from a Fatigue Effect, they get a burst of renewed energy and the status is removed. [+1 Stamina] If your dragon isn't suffering, you are allowed to quote a fellow wingmate (must be in your same wing) who is suffering the effect! Your dragon trumpets at them encouragingly, making them feel better, and giving them a renewed burst of energy and effort. Remove Fatigue Effect from one wingmate!
roll 2: A strong gust of wind suddenly pushes you off course and right into a sliver of Thread! If you're a blue or green, you wind up twisting easily out of the way, flaming it down successfully! [+1 Stamina]
roll 3: Your dragon spots a few clumps of thread being blown about in front of them. If white, green, or blue, they manage to catch a pocket of air and surge forward, flaming down two of the three clumps, before dropping hard and getting the third. No thread's slipping through on your watch! [+3 Target Accuracy!]
roll 4: A small clump of Thread has fallen through! You successfully flame it down. [+1 Target Accuracy]
roll 5: Diving after a small clump, a gust of wind suddenly pushes the Thread back into you and your dragon! Roll a D4 to see if you successfully Between (or dodge) in time!
- roll 5, part 2: 4. Whoops! Failure! Your dragon's neck is hit with Thread, and the thread also wraps around your rider's leg! [Heavy Damage -8 HP]

roll 1: Your dragon is effortlessly flaming Thread. Honestly, they almost seem to make it look easy. Both you and your dragon start to feel more confident, and even start to get a bit cocky. Low Altitude Wing was always the easiest wing to fly. Unfortunately for you.... Roll a D4!
- - - roll 1, part 2: 2. You successfully flame another clump, but accidentally fly into the ash cloud, leaving you with some ash burns [Minor Damage -2 HP ]
roll 2: Diving after a small clump, a gust of wind suddenly pushes the Thread back into you and your dragon! Roll a D4 to see if you successfully Between (or dodge) in time!
- - - roll 2, part 2: 4. Whoops! Failure! Your dragon's neck is hit with Thread, and the thread also wraps around your rider's leg! Heavy Damage -8 HP
roll 3: 2-4. The healers patch you and/or your dragon back with relative ease. They lather you in redwort, and actually make quick work of the wounds on hand. You May Return to Your Wing!
