Well, then wouldn't the real question be why there has to be a meaning to life? We're here already, who says we need a purpose?

for us to live and enjoy life, nothing more, because life is extremely short.

enjoy what you have, we only live once, if not, we do not remember. we live to keep our race going. we live because we are too much of cowards to end what is enjoyed. the feeling is what we live for.

ehh...the meaning of life....hmmm. I would have to say the mean of life is to live how you want, where you want, and with whom you want. i guess I'm saing that the meaning is to reproduce and continue your bloodline.

now that I think about it...that really doesn't fit the bill, and neither does 42. what is the ultimate question? "How many roads must a man walk down?" (Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Arthur Dent's question to the mice.) doesn't work either.

Malekhi
I would like a nice general census on

"THE MEANING OF LIFE!"

What is it all about. we all have our own idea's and theories, so i would like to hear yours..

dont be shy, be honest! biggrin

I believe that the meaning of life is actually a test. We are put on tjis earth because the "Big Man" wants to see which ones are worthy to go onn to paradise for all eternety, and which ones will be a threat to that paradise. So every killer, rapist, murderer and evil soul in the world will ultimately go to a place known as "hell." That's why the Christian religion always refers to heavne and hell, although I really believe that when we die, we just get reborn again into different bodies with no memories of our former selves. Like recycling.

Wait, so do you believe that we go to heaven/hell when we die, or that we're reincarnated? Please clarify your statement.

Ooops. I should have said that first we get to go to heaven/hell, experience it, than get sent back to earth. Those that deserve to stay do, and those that have broken the rules have to go to earth and retake the test. Is that any better?

What is the meaning of life...

Perhaps it may be easier if we first understand the question and set the perameters? "meaning of life" here actually means "purpose of life" since you can find the "meaning of life" from the dictionary[search "life"]. Next, we look at: the meaning of who's life. For our purposes, lets say our[humanity] life. As well, by asking "what is" the meaning of life, it is assumed that there is meaning. With these in mind lets have a look.

What is the purpose of our life then?

Purpose by itself has to be decided by something or someone. Like a watch. The designer made it and said that its purpose is to tell time. But, customers don't neccessarily have to follow that purpose, instead they can use watches to say....make a long chain of watches and use it for decoration. If something has a purpose then it must be given by the one who made it or decided by the one who uses it.

Thus by the above statements and definitons, one can conclude that the purpose of our lives is either:

1. decided by itself
2. given by the one who created us

If it is decided by itself then it means that it is decided by us who has life. By this answer, the purpose of life is what you decide it to be.

If it is given by the one that created us then it would be the one of which we are wired to do. Like...the purpose of a watch is to tell time and thus its machinary was designed to do exactly that. If this were nto true, then whoever it was sucks at designing. But by this answer, that means that there are two things we must consider. Is there someone who created us[thus life] and what is this purpose he designed for us? [assuming that there is a someone]

For those of you who do not understand the answer "42", drop what you are doing now and go get The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
