Devon saw a blurry image of Yani trying to patch him up. "Th...thank you sir. You...didn't...h..have to do...this" he grunted. When the C4 exlpoded, the sound rang through his ears and caused him to temporarily hear nothing but ringing. He saw the chimera getting away but couldn't do anything about it. He could hardly move.

((I love you guys.))
Unfortunately for Jared, he was wearing short sleeves without even his jacket on to protect his exposed flesh from Lonomia's toxic hairs. Before he had even realized what Lonomia was, he tasted the blood that pooled in his mouth. Metallic, rust-scented blood. He stood up, staggered back from Apsalar and Lonomia, putting a finger against his gums only to pull it back red. His ears were feeling odd as well, and he didn't understand why until something wet and warm trickled down his neck.
Red spiderweb trails made their way down from the corners of his eyes before he slumped over, dying from the hemotoxic spines in his arm.
Yani saw him slump over, but couldn't see who had done it. No one was above him or near enough to hit him, and no one had fired a shot, so he determined on his own it had been a Chimera. He just didn't know which one.
"TAIS, administer soonest possible treatment to Jared," he demanded, urgently but calmly. That was his son, after all. It wasn't like he would just let him die.
John waited outside of the slaughterhouse, but none other followed him. He whispered a quiet apology to Panther, then laid her against a thick tree a ways away from the facility, out of the slaughterhouse's cameras' visions.
Then he reappeared in the facility to help the Chimerae get away to safety.

Devon's vision got more blurry as he lost more blood. He couldn't even see his friend get infected with the poison. Oh, if he could move he would administer an antidote to Jared like a good doctor and a friend should.
Devon coughed more blood and the ringing started to die in his ears. His eyes fluttered and he passed out. If he wasn't treated soon he could die from blood loss.

Lonomia scrambled backward as Jared rose, blood cracking his face. The boy had been expecting the horror; it's not like it hadn't happened before. It was just as terrible every time. Everything would soon be covered in Jared Vent's blood; you would never realize just how much you come in contact with until your nail beds are bleeding and you are leaving prints all over everything you touch, everything you breathe on. Most people closed their eyes to hold back the blood from there, too.
The best thing Lonomia could do was rush Jared and further damage the man, which would make his chances of survival next to nothing. However, the thought barely crossed his mind. He decided not to attack their tormentor; Smoke was more important. Smoke was a friend, and friends were far more important than enemies. "Come!" The boy called, hesitating. "Come!!"

Hiccadu's thoughts about the gun were immediately discarded for what TAIS declared priority one: Jared.
Turning from the gun, she located Jared and leaped forward, pounding towards him and in the process almost barreling over Lonomia, whose poisonous spines wouldn't be able to pierce through her armor. Though she was heavily tempted to snap at him- to attack him to rend him in two- TAIS restrained her from delivering a lethal blow (however, damage received from her tunnel-visioned passage was entirely possible) and sent her towards Jared, a vial of liquid dropping down from the cieling as she neared, changing into her human form and reaching up to catch the vial as it fell.
"There we go."
Kneeling down, she snapped the syringe and then located the vein, able to feel, hear, see the frantic pulse of Jared's dying heart.
For a moment she paused, fascinated, as she listened. Listened to the sound of a full human dying.
And then TAIS was slamming sense back into her counterpart's head and demanding her to administer the drug, because if she didn't Sir Jared would DIE-
She inserted the needle into Jared's arm and delivered the dose, her mind floating back to the sound of that fading heartbeat.

When Seiko neared the facility, she could smell a faint breath of tar in the smoky air. She frowned, wondering what could have caused Trent to set off his explosive surprise on such short notice, but was distracted from her thoughts at the sight of the motionless body of a small girl lying behind a large tree. Worried, she quickly dropped down next to the child and touched her shoulder. "Hello? Are you okay?" Seiko asked quietly, without response. She gently lifted the hair off the girl's face and was appalled at her mutilated mouth. Without much hope, Seiko searched for a pulse and found none, although the body of the chimera (as she obviously was) was just now growing cold.
Seiko unhappily abandoned the little corpse and continued approaching the nearly destroyed building, and when she wasn't stopped by anything or any one, she climbed into the fray via the enormous hole in the wall. She crouched warily close to the exit of the wrecked building and added her voice to the cacophony, "Trent? Where are you? Are you alright?"

Trent looked at Seiko, standing so boldly near the facility just after she had been safely presumed dead in the slaughterhouse. He feared for her safety now, as well as trying to get the rest of the Chimerae out of the building. He picked up Jared's weapon and pocketed both it and his own, then ran for Seiko, behind the other escaping Chimerae.
"It's best we left," he called to her amidst the sparking of broken circuits and crumbling cinderblock walls. "I'm fine."
Seiko was the only reason Smoke had agreed to sign up for a job at the slaughterhouse. Otherwise, his own morality would have been slightly disturbed by the facility's function. It was only coincidence that Yani had requested he take the job, and only a miscalculation of Mr. Vent's that had allowed this to happen.
What she had been doing since the last time Smoke had seen her, he didn't know. They would have time to catch up on that later, once the Chimerae were safe.
Yani finished applying the limited first aid he knew to Devon, then had drones shuttle him away from the room and into the care of on-site paramedics. They would patch him up much better than his own skills allowed. Devon would probably get several stitches, blood transfusions, and would be bedded for some time. After a few days though, he would be able to walk around without the assistance of a wheelchair.

((OOC: Popping in to make a quick post and advise that since my midterms are coming up and I am absolutely snowed under with work, I'll be posting le-- okay, even less than usual until mid-Octoberish. D8 Sorry, guys. I'll try to be on now and then, but if you need to, feel free to drag Apsalar along wherever you're going.))
Apsalar had taken damage during the fight with Jared - mainly when she'd hit the floor - but it hadn't been enough to keep her down. The explosion had left her stunned, shocky, but otherwise fine. And she had left Tobart fairly near the door, she realized in shock.
Had he gotten out? Were the others out all right?
With only a brief, impatient pause to make sure Lonomia was also on his way out, she ran smoothly out the door, favouring her sore side a little bit. Hound and the others were already out the door, as far as she could see.
Once outside, she felt a wave of awe - and terror, as well. It was so...open. She had never seen such a thing, and she remained in place for a second, trembling, before forcing her mind back to her first thought.
She had to find Tobart. She'd left him in a situation that she'd thought would be safe, and it had turned out to be quite as dangerous as dragging him back in.
But looking around, she wasn't sure if she could see anyone or not. Used to the dark cages and narrow view, she had very little peripheral vision. She made her way out, moving along as quickly as she could, still dazzled by the unexpected light.
And her eyes turned back to the gaping hole with a sorrowful light in them.
They would have to leave Hiccadu behind. Apsalar couldn't forget what she had seen - the Chimera attacking Devon, meaning to kill. Had she been trying to avenge Panther? No matter what the idea had been, she'd tried to help them.
But as long as TAIS existed still, they had to leave her behind.
She turned her mind away from it as best she could - although it kept returning to the thought, pawing at it like a kitten with a ball of string - and went back to her search for Tobart and a way out, in that order.
