Joshua winced as Lucian made a face. 'Sorry.' He thought. 'That's the first thought of any human to a guy that's only half human and lives in water.' Joshua hadn't meant to offend Lucian. Offending those he'd just met was not exactly high on his list of things to do. 'Sorry.' He thought again, trying to make sure Lucian wouldn't get mad at him.

Lucian let out a laugh at Joshua’s face. Still petting the mermaid with his other hand he poked Joshua’s stomach. ‘You can always apologize with food.’ He grinned hoping Joshua would agree. He wasn’t mad at him, but this human seem skittish.

'Food?' Joshua thought. 'What do you eat?' He realized that none of the legends, stories, or myths he ever read, spoke of what they ate. And sea dragons were harder to find stories of. Joshua skimmed through possibilities in his head. 'Kelp, seaweed, and fish are probably the most likely. Though I suppose he could he plankton or something else.' Joshua had forgotten that Lucian could hear his thoughts, even when he wasn't trying to 'speak' to the dragon.

Lucian made faces again, ‘Nonono…I want chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and donuts and hotdogs and fried…anything fried really and ice-cream and fudge and…’ he stopped, knowing he was probably going to annoy the human. ‘Ummm…’ Lucian ducked his head a little from embarrassment. He laughed slightly trying to make the situation better.

Katalina didn't move when Lucian began petting her. Although she wasn't particularly touchy-feely as a rule, she didn't mind being petted. It even felt nice, sometimes.
Laughing - partly with relief that Joshua had kept his questions to himself, partly with amusement at Lucian - Katalina said, not in bubble speech this time, "Sea dragons can eat anything. Their stomachs are probably made of stronger stuff than your knife. Don't touch the earrings," she ordered Lucian humourously. "I'm sure I can find something else shiny for you, if you must have something."

Joshua laughed. He couldn't help it. The sea-dragon, mythical mysterious creature of the deep, wanted city food. He continued laughing, trying to not forget to breathe. Finally, he calmed down. 'I can't get those foods.' He told Lucian, his voice still amused. 'I could get some human foods for you, if you wanted to come back up to shore. But I can't get fancy. I live on my own in the forest. I could probably also catch some fish or something.' Lucian's embarrassment only seemed to further amuse Joshua.

Katalina's gaze went from Lucian to Joshua. She was amused, too, though her face didn't show it. "Once they're on human food, they're hooked," she warned Joshua. "It's like with land animals, only sea dragons don't go through the big...what are they called...the big blue boxes with the wasted food in them?"

"You mean garbage's?" That was the only thing Joshua could think of that fit the description. He chuckled. 'Okay, so maybe human food isn't the best idea.' He watched Lucian for his reaction to the subtle no. He didn't want to disappoint the dragon but not wanting to be Lucian's 'drug dealer' overrode it.

Lucian’s lips turned into a pout. He was hoping to get a free ride from the human, but it doesn’t seem like it was going that way. He sighed, letting bubble float to the top. He looked at the mermaid and started to scratch her head while thinking of another plan. ‘Ummm…’ He decided to not say anything. He wasn’t to sure if he wanted to tell the human and mermaid that he poses as a high school boy. Lucian continued to pout, not knowing what to say. He doesn’t like no’s… it irritated him.

"Yeah," exclaimed Katalina. "Yes, those...gar-buh-jes," she said, carefully sounding out the word. "But it's okay because it doesn't make them sick," she added. Glancing at Lucian, she added slyly, "I'm sure he has...other ways to get human food." She referred, of course, to a human form. Only the youngest of sea dragons didn't have one, after all.

'Really?' Joshua's curiosity was piqued. 'How would you do that?' Katalina seemed to know a lot more than he did. Joshua almost groaned and slapped his forehead as the thought passed through his mind. 'Of course she knows more, idiot! This is her world!'

Lucian tilted his head and studied Joshua, his thoughts were sometimes scattered. He was getting loss in the conversation, ‘Man do I need to start paying attention and stop looking at anything that is shiny…’ He glanced back at the mermaid and smiled at her, returning the shy look and nodding his head. Lucian then swam over to the human and rubbed his cheek against his. Maybe if he acted all lovey dovey, he could get free food off of him…change his mind maybe.

Joshua froze as Lucian rubbed cheeks with him. He looked over to Katalina. "Is this normal for his species? Or is it just his personality quirk?" He asked, pointing to the sea dragon. Joshua didn't really have much to base his ideas of sea dragon-human interactions on. Most stories that even remotely connected the two seemed to have this god-like presence of a sea-dragon. This particular dragon was acting like a three-year-old trying to butter up his parents.

Lucian continued to rub cheeks with Joshua, even giving a sort of purr like whimpers every now and then. He wrapped his arms around the human’s waist and stared up at him with bright blue eyes and a pouty lip, a ‘take me home’ look about him.

Joshua stared suspiciously at Lucian. He was acting like a child who wanted something. 'No.' He thought firmly. 'I am not turning into a crack-dealer or something.' He had to look away though, Lucian did the puppy look a little too well. Joshua tried to hide the fact that he liked the attention. Unlike most people, living on his own had not made Joshua dislike contact, but rather, he enjoyed it more. Simple because it was a scarcity for him.
