Hound also jumped for real when Red touched him. He was scared, a rare thing. He slowed his breathing and hugged her. "Thanks, but you scared the heck out of me," then he noticed her wings, "You have wings? Lucky."

Red nuzzled his chest when she heard he was okay. She flapped her wings lightly when Hound mentioned them. "I'd give them to you if I could. I hate flying." It was true, she preferred having her paws on solid ground. Ever since one of the scientists started talking to her. He had told her about something called an airplane. Something about a giant metal bird scared her senseless.

"I can't fly, and I don't understand. What's there to hate about it? I run really fast and can jump pretty far. For those few seconds that I'm off the ground, I'm free. Free of what I am, free of fear, free of all that worries me," Hound said as he continued to hug Red. "You should treasure your wings, you never know when they'll come in handy."

Red sighed. "I guess I could fly more and learn to like it." she squirmed out out the hug, feeling his hand brush up just behind her ears. Red turned quickly, tilting her head at him. "What did you just do?" she asked quietly. She had never felt anything like that, it felt... good.

"You mean this?" Hound asked as he gently scratched Red behind the ears. He didn't actually know what he'd done, but her reaction was something he wanted to see again. He didn't understand.

Red laid her head down on Hound's lap, enjoying the feeling. Her long tail wagged quickly as it dragged on the floor. "That feels... wonderful..." Red didn't know what was going on. She'd have to ask Smoke about it later, not realizing it had to do with her canine DNA.

See it, startled Afternoon I had to ask Or dare I, ever know Tell us we are dEmENteD Watch as attention span Hold, so fast Then goes up in s m o k e
I don't think you're nervous enough. It happened to show its own face Search for the s o u l l e s s ends Now put him to rest. You won't find me curling up A place that should make sEnSE Well, excuse me for this better judgment Night is so worth waiting for Fortunately for Devon, it seemed like hell was already being paid.
Unfortunately for any Chimerae still in the facility though, they wouldn't be able to sleep for several days.
"This is all YOUR fault."
The whip crashed down again.
"See what happens when you disobey me?"
The whip was yanked out of a bleeding, quivering body, the six-inch long curved thorn at the end dripping blood, fashioned to rip out a good chunk of meat when the hook was pulled out- like an arrow with a wicked tip.
"See what happens when you ignore me? When you shove me out?"
A second whip- this one laced with the thinnest, sharpest sliver of titanium- came down this time, slicing nicely through the heavily armored back.
TAIS even had to lace the whip with a special acid to get through that armor- same with the thorn. Otherwise it would've been like trying to hack through diamond with a rusty iron pick-axe.
The howl was earsplitting.
"You get punished!" Another whack with the second whip. "You become defenseless!" Another lash. "You are humiliated!"
It felt like the pressure behind the poor thing's eyes was enough to make its head burst.
"DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"
There were no chains. No shackles, no posts to hold her down. Nothing. She tried to squirm- writhe, buck- but TAIS would not allow movement, her hold on her counterpart iron and fast. Not physically, but mentally.
"If I really wanted to, I could make you kill yourself."
As if to prove it, she made Hiccadu fight against her bloody, beaten body and stand up on all fours in her Chimera form, and turn to face the humanoid guard that held the whips- that bore TAIS' face.
"You doubt that I can kill you with one thought? You think I am above that?"
She made Hiccadu limp over to the soldier, and lift up her head to see the soldier pull out a wickedly sharp dagger - obviously one of Jared's toys. Then her head was made to raise itself higher, and Hiccadu felt her massive jaw drop as the soldier slid the entire dagger into Hiccadu's mouth .
Without making Hiccadu cut herself on the blade, TAIS closed the Chimera's mouth.
"I could make you swallow this."
There they stood for a long moment, fear and pain and agony and sheer utter terror cutting through Hiccadu's mind like the knife that pressed against her tongue, and if TAIS wasn't controlling her tear ducts, she would probably be weeping.
Yes, you control everything. She admitted shamefully to herself. You control everything that I am. Please- PLEASE stop-!
TAIS was allowing her to think like that. She knew perfectly well that TAIS could easily make her want to swallow the blade-
But she wasn't. She wanted Hiccadu to feel fear and pain and terror. If she wanted to, she could even stop Hiccadu from feeling pain, panic, fear. She could stop all of that. She could make Hiccadu emotionless, fearless. An empty shell.
But she wasn't, and Hiccadu knew that.
Hiccadu hated it.
Then the soldier gripped the hilt that hadn't vanished, and slid it out from between Hiccadu's teeth without so much a scratch.
"Do not forget who you belong to."
Hiccadu was forced to lower her head, and TAIS made her turn away from the soldier. Hiccadu could feel the pressure behind her eyes lessening- the iron chains on her limps lifting- the punishment was over!
"Yes," she bit out in relief, wanting to weep but being unable to in that form. "Yes- yes yes yes. I'm yours- I'm yours. I am you. I understand."
She bowed her head, shuddered, and began to almost drag herself out of the room, towards a dark little corner of the slaughterhouse where she could lick her wounds in private.
Then, as she moved, she heard something snap behind her.
"Wait."
Then something six inches long sank in right next to her spine, and she let out an angry, painful, surprised bellow as she felt the entire weight of the world bearing down on her.
Slowly, the soldier dragged her back using the hook in her body, streaks of blood covering where she lay.

Hound continued to scratch Red behind the ears just to keep her happy. She was so cute like this. Hound let himself laugh slightly and quietly. He was thinking about what he found to be fun. He didn't have anything he thought of as fun or relaxing. Though he did have his thrill of the hunt.

Red looked up at her brother, love in her eyes. She was enjoying every second of this, not having her ears scratched but being with family. "Brother? You said you needed blood before... Why?"

Hound stopped scratching Red behind the ears and looked away. "Because, without it, I'm a monster. Without the blood I need, I become violent and cruel, crazy even. I become a being who will kill just for the fun of it. But I also become a begging crying screaming being who'll do anything asked of him just for a drop of blood." then he turned to look back at Red and his face was set in an agonized but very serious look. "You remember the one the white coats call hiccadu right? I am her predacessor. I was created for the soul purpose of hunting my fellow chimera and bringing them back to that accursed place so that they could continue their torture filled lives in captivity."

Red shook out her feather-like fur, a few of the feathers falling onto the bed. "Then you need someone to give you some everyday. I could do that for you..." She would work through any pain to help him.

"No. Don't even offer that. I can't stand the thought of hurting you. You're my little sister, I'm your big brother. It's my job to make sure nothing bad happens to you."

Hound sighed, "You're right. I give up. I'll drink your blood, but on one condition," and he waited a few seconds to make sure she heard him. "I will only drink your blood on the condition that you Never call me by my name and instead always call me big brother. My name is a symbol of what I am, and I would prefer if you at least, didn't call me by it."
