Dragons found Theirs and Impressed, things calmed down a bit (or were at least calmer than tunnelsnake battles and rolling eggs), there was another brown about - and another blue! - and then a third bronze. Well then. Would any of these be the right one for Rylyrr? She hoped so, even if it meant she wouldn't see him again for a long, long time. He'd waited a long time for his dragon, and while she might be happy with or without one, he deserved his.

Though she no longer clung to him, now that the tunnelsnake was long gone, she continued to hold tight. She was here, and even if one of those wasn't his...well, she was here.

[ r'ose and sahrawith ]

Contented by the permission and the affection that came from her father, the small green tucked herself into about as small a ball as possible before laying down to rest. She felt safe here, even more now that R'ose had made it over, and she had no plans to move until she was absolutely made to move.

R'ose, for his part, knew what to do and that was to stop screaming internally as he didn't want to wake Sahrawith up. Bowing deeply to the bronze, he touched the side of his head sheepishly as he settled to sit down by his dragon. "Sorry, and thank you? She feels really safe between the two of us, so if it's really okay to have me here too I'd like to stay until she wakes up."

The massive bronze, were he ever to know, would be surprised to find R'ose asking for permission. This was the type of person who usually found it easier to ask for forgiveness than ask permission, but in this case? He was willing to do what he could for the sake of his lifemate.

Erastan and Aspalath

Erastan sat rigid in the small area set aside for the feeding of new hatchlings. Both new rider and dragon favored the more concealed corners but it was a bright brilliant day and more and more dragons were joining them. There was no where to hide. But Aspalath needed to eat.

Erastan took a seat and the poor nervous blue tucked himself behind his partners legs, head poking out to peer at his clutch sibs. He wasn't scared of course, this was just more comfortable.....yep, totally more comfortable. "Maybe we should let everyone else eat first." Aspalath suggested softly.
"No." Erastan responded firmly. "If we do all the good stuff will be gone, besides, the sooner we eat the sooner we can leave."

Erastan had never been a big taker, if he had to communicate he kept his words short and to the point. But he was finding communicating mentally with Aspalath was surprisingly easy and because thoughts were so much faster than words, it all happened in an instant. He dragged a bucket towards him, took a knife and started to trim small neat chunks off the raw carcass pieces. Erastan had been catching and skinning animals since he was 8, a bit of bloody red meat didn't bother him. With each bite Aspalath scanned the area to see if anyone was looking at him, if he met anyone's eyes he quickly lowered his head till they looked away again. A few seconds passed he raised his head and looked again. When he was sure no eyes were on him he scarfed down the offerings without chewing.

Erastan was patient with him, he didn't try and force the meat on him, just held it out and waited. For his dragons sake and the sake of the other new borns he stowed his usual glare for a icy nod if anyone tried to greet him. But they were all consumed with their own bonded so it was easy to stay anonymous and unnoticed. Each time little blue brushed his hand, leaned against his legs or licked his fingers with his rough tongue Erastan felt his heart swell with love for the delicate nervous little creature. Aspalath was his now, forever and always. He would never let anything harm him.

But the boy was also conflicted, he knew what turning away from his sister had meant. How she would see it. But in that moment. Aspalath's life had been in his hands and he had made his choice. He couldn't even turn to look at her. Not yet. He would have to deal with it, but not yet.

Suddenly Aspalath dropped his latest meal squeaked in terror and tried to bury himself half into Erastan's body and half into the sand. "Atttack, attack we're under attack." The blue wailed.

Erastan was on his feet in an instant. spinning back towards the hatching sands now brandishing the carving knife as a weapon. But it was only a tunnel snake and by the time the boy located the source of the scuffle the feisty new blue had dealt with it. However now he was looking at the sands he could not stop himself searching for the face of his twin. She was fleeing towards the waters edge and she was...crying.

Erastan felt his heart lurch sickeningly from his chest to the pit of his stomach. His strong, fearless, impossible sister was crying. For the first time since their adoptive mother had died.

Aspalath cooed gently. Nervously. "I know she is your most important person and I am not brave or big as the other blues, but please don't....I don't want to be alone." Talk about your double guilt trip.

Erastan tried to steady himself, leaned down and wrapped his arms around the tiny quivering blue. He felt Aspalath relax into the embrace. "Never, but you're part of me, so is she. So we can't abandon her either." Aspalath hesitated, he understood, loyalty and devotion. But everything was still so new and frightening. "I don't want to go back out there. There are so many people" The blue admitted.

"It's okay, I'll protect you, and we'll stick to the edges."
Erastan promised, ferreting the sharp knife up the sleeves off his robes. Then he picked up the bucket which was still half full of meat and stepped away from the rest of the new dragon and weyrling pairs.

As promised he stuck to the edge of the hatching sands and the main crowds. Aspalath sticking so close that Erastan had to put some effort into not tripping over him. All of which meant it took longer than he would have liked to reach Zinath but reach her he did.

Once he stood before the green he glared at her, as if daring her to stop him seeing his sister. The scrawny teenage boy wouldn't have even made a mouthful for the adult dragon but he still looked ready to face her down in a death match. His dark serious brows furrowed deeply made him look older than he was but not by much. "Move." he suggested motioning at the wing concealing his twin.

Raelin (HR)

"Fairness doesn't factor in life, Zarike of Brown Pants," she told him rather briskly, as she knew it to be fact. "That's entirely implausible anyway. A mother would never throw an egg at us. A boulder, perhaps, if I earned it. But if you earn someone's ire, you ought to have the stones to survive it."

Raelin had, after all. Little spats in the hold hall, large arguments behind closed doors, a cross clutchmother and her dragonet in the bloodied sands.

"Now, take heed, Zarike of Brown Pants," she continued (was she going to always call him that?), pointing out the fresh and large bronze. "There are still some chances left for you. Are you going to run from that as well?"

Triton - Western Candidate

The hatching so far had been exciting and smooth. There didn't seem to be many hiccups that weren't resolved rather quickly, with only one candidate getting attacked (and it was more of a discipline) and one runaway egg that had been rescued by the attentive mother.

Triton's eyes were still shining as he watched each hatchling come out into the world, each of their personalities shining through, but as they all began to impress, he started to doubt that his would be in this clutch. Granted, it was his first ever, in fact, he had never seen a new born dragon before this day. But some part of him still held out hope that a life changing event would take place on this beautiful island, and he would find his dragon. Or rather, his dragon would find him.

If you wish to join Etansi, you may ask her. But I will not move until she is ready for me to do so, Zinath gently informed Erastan. Etansi, dearest, your twin is here to see you. Would you like to see him?

Cordrath peered down at R'ose, and then nuzzled him too. It is only right that you stay with her, and quite important to her development than you do so. She will need your companionship at this critical stage in her development. Why not sit upon my claws, and keep at least a hand upon her hide, that she knows you are here?

Rio

Rio had only just gotten himself sorted (or as sorted as he was going to get without a bath), when a delightful little green came running at him to pounce, but missed and landed at Esfir's feet before scampering around a bit. He chuckled and shook his head fondly, shaking loose a little more sand as the playful hatchling scuttled off to bond to Hers.

Just a few more unImpressed dragonets remained - would any of them be for Esfir or Ticene? It would be splendid if so! And once the babies had all bonded, he could go and find Alya and her energetic white.

Farellen watched as Dragons hatched and Dragons Impressed, he was surprised to see a white hatch from the egg that had rolled into the candidates but it had wasted no time in finding it's partner, so that was good, Whites were so delicate compared to the other hatchlings, even a small green. While he hoped one was for him, he was still happy for every pair, even the Gold had found her match. Good for her, she was sweet.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Becka was glad the Gold found her match, and not with her, as much as she would never have denied any dragon a match with her, it wasn't on her mind, ever to Impress, let alone Impress a Gold, a gold didn't leave her a choice to continue her career, unlike impressing a Green or blue maybe. Still, she wasn't here to Impress, she was here to do a job. She hoped Tassiel Impressed.. so far he hadn't gotten really much consideration from any of the hatchlings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rokar watched each dragon hatch, watched the Impressions, trying his best to harden himself to being here on the beach but keeping himself apart, not wanting to be in a crowd right now. He sighed wistfully at the new Bronze but also keeping a half interested eye on the others, trying to keep his mind here in the now, not back when he lived at home among the pitying glances and muttered comments and the boats going out and coming in regularly.

[ r'ose and sahrawith ]

"If you're certain, then I'll accept and thank you for the kindness." R'ose was careful as he took a seat on the offered claws, making sure to continue to say thank you to the dragon (and in a way, to his rider for having such a wonderful and kind dragon).

With a hand on Sahrawith's back, she sighed into his touch and against her father. There were quiet and peaceful dreams now, and only the softness of a link based in happiness.

Today was a very good day.

Adar - HRW

The blue flower egg hadn’t stirred yet and a few little, and not so little, dragonet boys were checking things out. All well and good. They can have their time. They’d come to theirs. No worry! Adar’s focus had been drawn by the clutchsire playing and interacting with his children. It was precious. She brought her hands up to her face, only briefly put off by the heat of her developing sunburn. The bronze was so massive compared to the wee ones and he was just being so gentle and careful with them. Aww! Even being kind to his children’s bondmates. What a good papa dragon. Perhaps it was no wonder that none of the babies thus far had been overtly aggressive or mean or anything. Good genes.

The brown and blue hatchlings that wandered together didn't draw too close to the Candidates. They kept tight to one another, with the brown happy to encourage his brother, and the blue more than happy to give his clutchmate the periodic nuzzle or cuddle.

Now... Where were theirs?

The brown found His first. Delicately extracting himself from his brother, he gave his clutchsib a fond and encourage head boop, before coming quickly before his. The brown didn't hesitate. With a triumphant creel, he reached out to press his wedge shaped head into Gorey's stomach, reaching out with his wings, trying to all but climb onto the other and into his lap. He couldn't get close enough, his eyes whirling a bright rainbow of love, adoration, and joy.

Were you kept waiting all these Turns, Goreymine? Tell me your Karhath well worth such a wait?

User Image

The blue, for his part, quickly hurried through the rest of the Candidates. Thankfully, someone had caught his eye, and he knew that that would be the one for him. He didn't want to be alone, he didn't want to be without his most perfect match.

Calling out as he neared, the blue dragonet's fear turned into unadulterated joy as he came face to face with His.

Adar! Oh, Adar! There you are, my most beloved. Your Yinth missed you, and needs! Won't you look at me, instead of them? Today is far too sunny a day to be apart, and I don't want to be alone. Loneliness was a horrible feeling, and being alone among strangers was extra frightening. But with his Adar, he knew neither of them would ever have to be alone again.

Riders
Vosin and Gold Killakeeth- W
The cuddly brown and blue were both the handsome boys to behold. Each impressed quickly and easily. This was how hatchings were supposed to be. A couple more left to go. Vosin gave a stretch to limber herself up for the procession back to the weyr that was about to come.

Ly’bur and Brown Hinburath- HR
Things would be wrapping up quickly now, if he was any judge of it. The blue and brown pair hadn’t wasted any time and quickly found their riders. Now it was just the bronze, hogging the stage, and an unhatched egg. Ly’bur frowned at it, wondering if there was something wrong after all.

“They went relatively fast, don’t you think? Do you think the bronze is going to take his time now?” Makim commented idly to a candidate nearby. Both the brown and blue were quite fetching fellows.

Rinis
They were in the home stretch. She gave a smile of encouragement toward the last bronze. He would surely pick a good rider. Her attention also swung toward the last lone egg. Would it hatch alright?

“What do you think about that last blue one?” Every other egg had hatched. Was it taking it’s sweet time or was there another reason? As much as he was use to the warmer weather of Western, he wanted to get out of the heat fairly soon.
