"Well, mutant shadow powers probably would have helped even without being an army brat." Adrian pointed out.

"Yeah, but not that much when you don't know how to use them yet." She said, finishing off her pie and ice cream now.

Adrian opened his mouth to speak, but decided it wasn't a topic to continue with during Christmas Eve, opting instead to start bringing the empty plates into the kitchen once he finished his pie.

"Alright Calista, when Adrian and I are done cleaning up, it's time for cookies, and then bed." Amaya told the girl, who nodded and ran off to finish her movie. "So close to bed time..." Amaya sighed as she walked in to help Adrian clean up.

"How is it that you seem more tired despite dealing with a less needy seven year old and the myriad horrors of the arena?" Adrian wondered.

"I don't know. Maybe all the years of exhaustion from the ring are finally hitting me. Or just that I still have to take Calista everywhere all the time and do all the stuff for my book and take care of the house and bills." She muttered, putting dishes in the dishwasher.

"I hope it's not the exhaustion catching up; you are way too young to retire." Adrian said with a small smile. "Could be your body just adjusting to not being in pain all the time and being put to work doing more mundane work for a change." he suggested with a small shrug. "Either way, no more fighting for us, so who cares I say."

"Maybe." Amaya sighed. Shrugging as well, she stuck her head in the living room. "Bed time. Come get the milk and cookies ready." She called to Calista, now pulling out a tin of cookies.
"Okay mommy!" Calista said excitedly, picking a few cookies and getting a glass of milk out. She also put a few carrots out for the reindeer, smiling widely as her mother took a picture.

Adrian chuckled a bit when he saw the carrots. "That's an extra touch I haven't seen before. No one ever thinks of the reindeer."

With the cookies, milk and carrots out, Amaya sent Calista off to bed. After about a half an hour, she grinned, nodding to her own room. "Santa's presents are in my closet. The sooner we get them out, the sooner we can go to bed." She whispered to Adrian.

Once they were done putting out presents, Amaya fell on the couch tiredly. "Thank you sweet diety, we're done!" She said happily.

"Not quite, you've still got a hyperactive seven year old high on Christmas cheer to deal with tomorrow." Adrian said with a chuckle as he flopped down next to her.
