I've seen that done before. Usually on men that can't wear rings for their work (i.e. metal workers) and I've always thought that it's a neat idea. Marriage is intended to be permanent, so why shouldn't the symbol be?

@ Tsuji: Well, I think tattoos can be really excellent if they mean something to the wearer. I like the idea of tastefully decorating your body. I never thought about metal workers getting their rings tattooed on, though it's obviously better than wearing an actual ring. confused
