Personality: Balrog is hot-headed, egotistical, and confrontational. He isn't afraid to speak his mind. Some might call him an a*****e or even downright vicious to a soquili that gets on his wrong side.
And, if you're Balrog, that isn't difficult. He is severely prejudiced against any non-winged Soquili, calling them weak and inferior.
He believes that it is the responsibility of the wind soquili to band together, promote the strong.
History: Balrog arrived into the valley when wind soquili were hardly ever seen, nor had he seen very many of them in his lifetime. He shortly encountered Stormwild, and took it upon himself to criticize her poor choice in first mates (a ground soquili!) and to criticize and pester her until he grew on her. He still certainly touts the dominance of the wind soquili over ground soquili and will certainly not be hesitant to give a list of why.

Balrog's dirty secret is that before he arrived in the valley, he was a part of a very small ground soquili herd. His mother was a ground soquili herself, his father a fling she had with a wind stallion who was gone before Balrog was born. Balrog pictured himself a sort of guardian of the herd, serving as scout and protector. His ego had already begun to develop as he saw himself as protector.
During a particuarly lean winter, the herd came under attack by predators. Balrog had been off scouting to try to find food, and by the time he got back, it was too late. In order to deal with the loss, Balrog's disdain for ground soquili intensified, and he blamed their weakness and inability to fly away from predators the reason for their death - and not his own failure.

Personality: Maelstrom is very much her father's daughter. She is egotistical and between her and her sister, Cataclysm, they truly are twin terrors. They are used to getting their way and hell be had if they don't. She is proud to be a wind soquili, and believes herself to be blessed and privileged to be so. Maelstrom is quite caustic in her attitude towards most soquili. Even a wind soquili needs to earn her respect, but starts on much better footing.
Now, Maelstrom has mellowed out with age, but also been harboring more resentments and feelings of inadequacy.

History: Maelstrom is the offspring of Balrog and Stormwild, and was one of Balrog's "proofs" that offsprings of wind soquili are superior to ttheir land-bound counterparts.
She has stayed with her parents as a part of their small wind-soquili herd, and her sister Cataclysm.
However, after meeting Wild Wind, Maelstrom settled down quite a bit and this also put distance between her and her twin sister. Wild Wind was everything she wanted in a mate - a handsome wind soquili who held the same beliefs as her father and her herd, and she did her father proud when she presented him to Balrog. However, this initiated jealousy in her sister Cataclysm, who was used to being inseparable from her sister, and didn't bring home a handsome mate to the herd.
When conflict arose in the herd, wedges also began to form between herself and her mate, whose opinion began to weaken on the herd that he had joined, leaving her in an awkward position - between the soquili she loved and the family she was raised in. She has always been a daddy's girl, looking up to her father, Balrog.
Furthermore, attention has been taken from herself and her family, even her own twin daughters, with the arrival of new additions to the herd. First Balrog sired a son from a different mother - who was taken into the herd as the golden child. EVEN though he wasn't Stormwild's - the other head of hte herd's - son. Maelstrom had strong suspicions that it was because of his gender. But even when he was displaced by a basket that Stormwild found and believed to possibly be a survivor from a skinalker attack of her own children, the son that emerged from that took the place as the new soquili being groomed for greathood in the herd. Even though there was no guarentee that he was even Stormwild and Balrog's true offspring. Maelstrom has felt more and more distant from the approval of her father - she suspects because she is female and has only born daughters. Maelstrom therefore has a lot of anxieties and frustrations just beneath the surface. She feels she has grown old with the approval from her father waning. Her sister has been more standoffish to her because she feels that Maelstrom slighted her in growing distant from her for too long.

Personality: Windstorm is a pompous young filly, who is truly a daughter of the herd she is a member of. Like her parents (and Balrog and other members of the herd) she believes in the dominance of winged soquili above the non-winged, and the wind soquili as the epitome of soquilikind. Windstorm also has a sharp tongue and the wit to match it. However, if a soquili can stand up to her banter, it earns respect points in her eyes.
Windstorm was raised in one of the proudest Wind herds of the land. Not only was she influenced by her parents, but her grandparents. She rivals Wild Wind in the pride of being a Wind. She has a very sharp tongue and wit to match her beauty (which she flaunts quite often). She will only show respect to those of her race, who think along the same lines as herself and the herd she's part of, or if they don't back down from her banter.

Personality: Ashfall, often called just "Ash", is the spitting image of his father, Balrog: ash and smoke with fiery red hair and bright wingtips reminiscent of white ash and hot blazes. However, where his Father's fiery markings are reflected in his temper - that has only barely begun to be tempered with age and elderhood - Ashfall burns with insight. He takes much more after his mother in his personality than his father: looking before he leaps, and being slow to judge. He will hang back and observe, coming in later after the storm like ash settling to the ground. But like smothering ashfall that he was named, Ash can be quite strong and effective in a fight, even if it is with more nontraditional methods: metering out his energy and wearing out an opponent before delivering his crushing blows. He's also clever and quick with his words, knowing the right buttons to push - be it targeted strikes against a foe, or the right way to ingratiate himself to an ally.
However, the colt is far from perfect, and Balrog's temper does lurk in his chest, just... typically more deeply burried than his father. And he "suffers" from a bit of Balrog's overconfidence that can sometimes come across as cockiness.
History: Ashfall is one of four foals of Balrog and Stormwild final breeding - after they have each reached elderhood and preside over the Thunderbird herd. Much ado came of the arrival of Ashfall and his three siblings. The skinwalker Kumiho, who stole baskets from Stormwild when she had given birth once before, tried to take his and his brothers to house her own wicked foals. But this time, Kumiho was rebuffed... leaving an already dangerous foe scorned and angry...

Personality: Aspen was raised by two loving parents in a long, happy lifemating. He was born after some of the conflict in the herd, and therefore, knew a happy, safe foalhood. He is quiet, usually reserving his words for when he feels it necessary to speak. However, he is inquisitive - observing nature and other soquili around him with a reserved intelligence. He has a long fuse, not easily getting riled up or stirred to conflict. While some of the more talkative members of his herd might miss subtle beauty of nature, or possible danger, Aspen is always very aware of his surroundings, appreciating beauty and recognizing potential danger. As he grew older, he sometimes takes the role of a lookout around the foaling grounds, or scouting out resources around the territory.
History: Aspen is the foal of Belle and Zhuri, two of the first soquili to join Balrog & Stormwild's herd. They sought the sanctity of a healthy herd from a herd that had discouraged breeding in a hungry time. They have been a happy couple since day one, and Aspen is part of their third set of triplets.

Personality: Flurry is a small, light-bodied mare. While delicate and refined, she is quite fussy, and will often prattle on at lenghts about whatever might be going through her head. She can be quick to criticize, but assures you that it is in your best interest to help you out. She rarely knows when to keep her mouth shut, but she can know how to ingratiate herself and put on the charm if need be.
She doesn't care much for physical conflict, and despises getting her hooves dirty, but if pressed, her spirited nature can surprise you.
History: Flurry and her twin brother Frost were displaced from their home, and eventually made their way to the Thunderbird herd where they took up residence.

Personality: Illyana is an energetic, fiesty filly. She's got a good mind between her ears and is quite inquisitive. Courageous and bold, she never seems to be short on personality. She's got a good sense of humor, but likes to hear herself talk and can be noisy and opinionated. She's not afraid to get into a quarrel with a soquili - even if they're bigger than her. She's proud of who she is, and the fact that she never knew her real mother has yet to bother her. She is quite loyal to those soquili that she considers family.
History: Tilyr and Illyana's mother was a young wind mare who was not ready to suddenly find herself with twins. Without a dedicated mate, and not prepared to be grounded, she made the decision to stash the baskets somewhere she knew that they would likely be found. And found they were - by Storm Wild - the alpha of a successful wind herd in the mountains. However, since Storm Wild had already gotten herself into trouble more than once with her mate, the protector of the herd, Balrog for taking in non-winds, Storm was not ready to take the risk with two foals of unknown parentage. Knowing that her first son, a ground soquili, Sequoyah had recently left the herd with several others who were no longer welcome, was leading his own successful herd - she brought the baskets to him.

Personality: Fiacha embodies every bit of his mother's confidence and free-spiritedness with his father's rich Irish heritage and energy. He is bold and very sure of himself, to the point of overconfidence. He prides himself in his aerial prowess. He's a little larger than his slender father, a fact that he enjoys lording over him in a good-natured way. Still a young stallion, Fiacha has a playful tone and a curiosity about the world at large. Still, he considers his herdgrounds as his home base, and is fiercely protective of his extended family. He is eager to prove his competence, and yearns to impress (Something he also picked up from his dad) - to the point of being a little reckless or over-eager to accept challenges.
History: Fiacha is the foal of Hunter Brown and Ethan. When Ethan learned that he had inadvertantly sired foals with Hunter Brown after their moonlit fling, he returned to her to apologize. He felt terrible because he had left her with foals while ironically on his own quest to find his absent father. He felt like a hypocrite and had a big realization of family and his own identity during his journey, realizing that he was his own soquili, even IF his father was the demon that he hadn't wanted to believe. During his trip back, he remembered the night of passion, and the beautiful mare that he had left behind, and how selfish he had been. He returned to her and presented her a Bythol - a celtic symbol of love representing the joining of the mind, heart, and body. This gesture was a romantic one and an apology. Ethan realized he needed to step up and be a better man than his father... and with it, find happiness and family - reuniting with his daughters. Ethan's return and reunion with Hunter produced him and his siblings.

Fiacha encountered a dark and beautiful mare, Dubh Lacha, who also had a love of flying, and the two bonded over that. However, Lacha was a flockmember, with a very strict and not very kind mother, Macha. Macha discovers her daughter weakening her alliance with the flock and she discovers the cause being Fiacha and takes it upon herself to capture Fiacha and to teach him a lesson for corrupting Dubh Lacha's mind drawing her away from the sisterhood. But Dubh Lacha fights with her mother and expresses no love for her nor the flock and is sorrowed that her mother's own heart is so tainted, she disowns Macha and leaves for Bythol to make a better life.

Personality: Sin'Dorei, while she does possess wings, is not very skilled at flying. The wings do not support her weight for very long, allowing her to only make short "hops", like a chicken.
Sin'dorei is a pedigree steed that was born into a pampered life. However, when sold to a two-legger that did not treat her properly, she learned quickly of a hard life. Finally coming to the realization that she could live for herself like the wild horses she had seen, she escaped one night and is exploring a life of new independence. Was she truly treated as bad as she thought when she was in the care of her master, or was she just accustomed to a padded life in the stables?
She is respectful to others, soquili and two-legs alike, considering herself a representative of her breed in these new lands. She is not quite sure what to make of freedom or these strange lands, or exactly how she is supposed to act.

History: Sin'Dorei is one of the elite breed of "hawkstrider" steeds bred by two-leggers for their speed and elegant plumage. While they do bear the wings from their ancestors (winds or hippogriffs is unknown, though the two-legs that bred them claim ancestry to hawks themselves, hence the name), most (Sin'Dorei included) are no longer capable of flight. This makes them more managable by their handlers, but still bears the coveted trait of being winged and feathered horses.
When she reached maturity, she was sold for a high price to an owner who took her from the stables she knew and her family. However, she was not treated with the respect that a steed of her breeding deserved. Instead of keeping her in the manner she was accustomed to, she was ridden hard and treated very poorly. She was taken into dangerous territories,her plumage not properly cared for, and fed terribly. One night, when her owner neglected to secure her bridle to a tree as he usually did, she slipped away, and began her own adventure that led her into the Kawani lands...

Personality: Sea Breeze is an outgoing, friendly mare who brims with enthusiasm and charm. She is laid back, quick to tell a raunchy story or show someone a particular fruit that is juuust past ripe... She feels comfortable around just about anyone, and tends to be the sort to get even the most stoic soquili to warm and loosen up with her smiles and words. She speaks with a slight accent to most of the soquili from the Kawani land's ears. She has a reverence and awe for the wonders of nature and the spirits and gods. She knows while nature can be powerful yet fickle, to appreciate every moment life gives you because you don't know what turn might come tomorrow.
History: Sea Breeze is from the tropical islands to the south. She loves the balmy temperatures and sea air blowing through her mane. She arrived in the Kawani lands with a group of other soquili when a warm tropical front blew through the normally temperate lands in an unusual tropical depression of strong wind and rains. She encountered the Thunderbird herd soon after her arrival who saw her arrival in time with the massive storm as a good omen given their reverence for such storms. Eager to see this new land and bring some of the charm of her island homeland, she decided to stay... for now at least.

Personality: Vesna is a flighty, airy hippogriff mare who revels in the simple, pure experiences in life. She doesn't like to deal with unpleasantries, and will leave responsibilities or burdens aside, refusing to deal with the consequences. She is the eternal spring: beautiful, but fleeting; not dealing with the harshness of Summer.
If she is cornered and confronted with unpleasantness, she is likely to break down until she can escape, and deliberately try to forget the difficulties of her life. She isn't unfriendly or unsympathetic, but constantly runs from responsibilities. She is the definition of a fair-weather friend.
History: Vesna eagerly left the ancestral homelands when the passages opened, eager to see new life. She marveled at the fertile lands - greenery, and had a great love for the Kawani lands as opposed to the barren deserts. But her journey came at a price. She ran into a creepy Kalona who had his way with her, leaving her with two baskets.
Unprepared and unwilling to deal with the consequences of an unplanned mating and cutting her life of irresponsibly short, she left the baskets near a herd of vaguely similar to hippogriff soquili she spotted (the Hatetalons).
She doesn't really consider the affect this had on Banshee and Siren Hatetalon. She couldn't deal with the constant reminder of the tryst with the Kalona.

Personality: Jarilo is also a Soquili of Spring - but unlike his mother who is more a representative of its fragility and capriciousness, Jarilo is the force that melts winter and brings brightness and joy to even the darkest, harshest times.
He is positive, loyal, and has a huge force of personality. It takes a lot to ruin his mood, and he can be the rock when someone needs supporting.
However, due to the innocence and ignorance of his father, Jarilo as well is not very world-wise. But where Mirage is innocent by personality, and would be scandalized to learn of some of the realities of the world, Jarilo is merely ignorant.

History: Mirage is a very pure and innocent soquili, not at all aware of the details of how foals are made and the birds and the bees. Vesna is a flighty, flirtatious and irresponsible mare. The two of them met, and Mirage, naievely assumed that a simple meeting meant a great friendship. Vesna enjoyed his company, but was never a mare to be tied down or stick to obligations, and so Mirage was saddened when she grew boared and distracted and flew off one day. When the wishing star appeared over the land, Mirage paid it a visit, missing Vesna, and asking for a foal. As innocent as Mirage is, that is the only way he knows or knew that foals were made.
The star heard his wish and granted him Jarilo.
Jarilo was such a force of personality and joy - bringing happiness when before there was sadness, and is a dutiful and loyal son. Even though he has wings and loves to fly, he does not roam far from home and his father.

Personality: Lhuysii is a young, whimsical, friendly mare born in the flock. She is rarely seen without a whimsical smile on her face. She sometimes comes across as distant or distracted, with her head in the clouds. Some mistake her for being a little slow or touched, but Lhuysii is actually bright, just with different priorities and manners than most. Her strengths fall more to the creative side, and she rarely is in any kind of a hurry. She can get lost in thought, and sometimes when it seems like she isn't listening - she actually is giving quite a bit of thought and imagination to the words she's hearing, even if she doesn't respond immediately to direct questions.
She is pleasant, sweet, and courteous to her sisters and even usually to the stallions (Although she certainly doesn't question the "natural order" of things in the flock and the stallions' role to serve the mares.
Lhuysii's role in the flock is a Keeper of the Sacred Lore - a simple priestess. It is her duty to learn, memorize, and pass along the mythology and history of the flock. She loves conveying the stories and customs of their beliefs to foals, assisting in setting up for the seasonal festivals, and helping tie the mythology of the flock into the annual celebrations - making sure that all, especially the foals, understand why they do the things they do.
She is artistic and loves color, but integrates it more into festivals and teaching rather than necessarily having much in the way of talent or creating anything practical.

Personality:Melanippe a young female harpy, just barely an adult by the herd standards. However, she is small and slight of stature, and might be mistaken for a sub-adult. While she is not very strong, she is quick and stealthy, taking advantage of her dark coloration. She is an aspiring huntress, preferring to hunt alone on dark nights.
Having grown up a "runt", and a disappointment to her mother (and picked on by her sisters, especially Stymphalia, she has always been attempting to prove her value to her family group and show up her sisters that she grew up with that have more inherent strength and power.
Melanippe feels and acts very derisively towards outsider soquili (particularly stallions) mostly out of her own apprehensions of inferiority. She has the makings of a bully if or when there are herdmembers lower in status than she is. Inwardly, she's a little intimidated by bigger stallions, and jealous of their strength. But she would never let it show.
She tends to be quiet, though can be rather blunt and tactless when she does speak, always seeming to be on the defensive.
Melanippe is eager to join the larger Northspring Hatetalons, hoping that she won't be the lowest on the totem pole any more.
Melanippe is defensive, snippy, and easily riled up. She uses her stealth and wiles to get the drop on soquili rather than face them outright.

History: Melanippe was born to a lucky clutch of three foals by her mother, Gaiana Hatetalon - in her final breeding before she was killed by a skinwalker. However, while this was Gaiana's only breeding with three mares, Melaippe was small, underdeveloped. A runt.
Her older sisters, especially Stymphalia, picked on her. After all, if she was too weak to take bullying from her sister, she did not deserve to be a Hatetalon. Stymphalia's sisters, Adora and Principia, prevented her from outright killing her or causing irreparible damage, but understood the role of testing and trials in building strength. Her mother, proud and strong, gave her less attention than her basket-mates.
As Melanippe began to grow, she had to accept that she would never win fights of outright strength, and to begin learning about the other approaches and roles she could take. She found her niche. While she wasn't strong, she could use her small stature and quick speed for hunting and thievery. While she couldn't take big game, she could catch a number of mice and rats and other small mammals. She had to be careful, though, as sometimes her catches were stolen by her stronger sisters.
