Steele Thompson III

Hufflepuff|5th year|Muggle-Born|Ariana Hawthorne

Why must I be judged upon the purity of my blood?

Steele walked into the class, knowing he had to do well here. He liked this class, but it was by far the hardest. He sat down and awaited further instructions for Professor Amorocho. He then rose his hand to answer, hoping to take the hardest one and that was Dzou Yen. Not many people knew about this man, but he had studied Alchemy outside of class. He only studied outside of the class for Alchemy, Astronomy, Herbology, and History of Magic. So, he came across Dzou Yen during his studies on Alchemy.

"Dzou Yen, he refined the theories of five elements. That really contributed because the use of the elements is copious in this subject," he said to the teacher, then writing down anything the teacher had said.

Will I ever be the same?

Adalaide took out her parchment and quill, wondering why they were getting another lecture in this class. Usually, Professor Angel mixed it up, gave them a few practicals and a few lectures. Their first lesson of the new term had been a lecture, so she'd been prepared for a practical today... but it seemed they'd just be taking notes again. She sighed, tilting her head and looking at the names written on the board. She listened to the answers given by Cameron and Steele, and looked at the remaining names. She'd recognized them all, thankfully... she tilted her head. "Paracelsus was an alchemist in the Renaissance period, who believed that Alchemy, along with Philosophy, Astronomy and the Virtue of the Physician, were essential to the successful practice of medicine. He called these the 'Four Pillars,' and used them to further his own studies. He published several books on the subject." She leaned her face on her hand, her elbow resting on the desktop, hoping she'd earn a decent number of House Points. She wanted to continue making a decent contribution to her house, after all. Between her lessons and Quidditch, she'd earned a fair number of points. She wanted to keep up the practice. It made her feel like she was accomplishing something.

Second Lesson: Famous Alchemists
╚══════════════╝

”Muy bien,” he nodded with a smile as the older Hufflepuff had spoken up amidst taking notes. ”Ten points to Hufflepuff.” He nodded conclusively and allowed his dark, glittering chocolate eyes to roam around the room before settling on a very precise Hufflepuff girl in earthy clothes and a heart and key necklace. ”Very good, Miss Blythe, well done. Twenty points for Hufflepuff again,” he smiled.

He’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to see Slytherin lose the house cup this year.

Third Lesson: Expono Spell
╚══════════════╝

As the professor of alchemy entered the classroom, he ushered a simple wave of his wand to create a flutter of his handwriting to appear on the chalkboard at the front of the class. All around, the flutter of wings from caged pixies rustled around the class. Striding diligently across the rows of desks and chairs, Angel reached the front of his class and turned to meet his students. ”To dissuade the callous and greedy of heart from discovering the truths behind alchemy, and it’s because of those paranoid wizards that we have spells like Expono to help identify what type of man you may be dealing with during experiments and collaborations...

“This spell is quite exhausting and requires a keen sense of mind, but the wand movements and pronunciation are quite simple in comparison. A simple and gentle tap on the left temple of their head with your wand, and then guide the tip down towards the heart (without touching the victim) as you recite the incantation, ex-poe-NU.

"The trick is to imagine yourself in the darkness, you can't see who your facing, but you know they're there, so use every bit of information you've ever seen or heard from them to help shift their body into the form that best represents their motives, their ambition in life, the animal, the color, the feeling that best describes them. All of this, will lead you to an illusion cast over the victim that's intricately tied to the one who cast the spell. It's always hard to decipher the meaning of these illusions, because of that fact. It's very rare for the same outcome to appear when two different wizards practice the spell on the same target, so, you'll have to feel it in your guts to understand. Because everyone's perception of good, and evil, and love and hate is very, very different. Which is what makes this spell very controversial in modern day times.

"Once you've completed your reading on the chapter, you may begin practicing with the caged pixies set up in each corner of the class. I do suggest, however, you either freeze the pixie or try to stun him, to be able to properly perform the spell.”

I'll be your soldier, fighting every second of the day for your dreams.
So don't stress, don't
cry, we don't need no wings to fly.

Cameron listened to Professor Angel's lecture. In case he wouldn't memorize the wand movement, he wrote it down on a piece of parchment although he didn't really have to because the directions were also written in the textbook. As the lesson continued, the Gryffindor began to feel a bit overwhelmed at how tough this spell seemed. Cameron stayed seated quietly when the professor asked for a volunteer. The boy figured it would be better if he didn't mess up with the whole class watching and waiting for something to happen.

As long as you love me, we could be starving,
we could be
homeless, we could be broke. As long as you love me.

Fourth Lesson: Patronus Potion
╚══════════════╝

Entering the classroom with long, swift strides, a callous and purposeful flick of his wand had led the description of a potion appear on his chalkboard while he waited for any students to gather at his class. Once they had, he rose from his seat behind his desk and cleared his throat. ”Once you’ve completed reading the chapter, you may begin.”

Damien turned to the chapter in question and started reading, his brow crinkling, a small frown setting in. This seemed very complicated. He'd have to be extra careful in the brewing process. He gathered the necessary supplies and brought them to his desk, arranging them all carefully so that he didn't need to worry about not being able to fine one. Time could be incredibly important in relation to the brewing process, and he had a feeling that was doubly true in regards to this one. He sighed a bit, moving slowly and methodically. He wasn't as good at this class as Adalaide, but then, she sort of had an advantage, now didn't she? He smirked a bit at that thought. How funny, that his father had always gone on about how those with weaker bloodlines lacked advantages... when the tiny Hufflepuff had been blowing him away in lessons since day one, because she'd been taught. His father had given him pointers, of course, but neither of his parents had ever sat down and really taught him anything. He'd had to work on his own.

Damien grimaced as he eyed the fairy wings he'd grabbed from the cabinet. They didn't seem fresh... a bit too dry, to brittle. But, there was no time to get more. So, he continued on as normal, not being even remotely surprised when his potion was the right color, but seemed slightly duller in sheen than it should. By the time he was done, it was glowing, but only faintly, and the wisps coming it from it weren't quite purple, they were more of a heather color. But, he didn't care, because the color wasn't what had captured his attention. He'd never cast a patronous spell before, never even attempted it... but here, before him, in those swirling spirals of smoke, he was seeing it... a turtle. His brow knit in confusion. Why a turtle? But the more he thought about it, the more it made sense. They were strong, and noble. He liked to think he was both of those things. Their shell was a symbol of protection because he would do anything to protect the people he cared about. He smiled. A turtle. Of course.

                                                          ═════════════════════════════════
'It's natural for a thing like me...'

First Lesson: Desires of an Alchemist
╚══════════════╝

Striding diligently across the rows of desks and chairs, Angel reached the front of his class and turned to meet his students. ”Welcome back, hope your summer was well. Welcome to Alchemy III, I am Professor Juan Angel Amorocho, call me Professor Angel, or just professor is fine. Today, we’re going to learn about the desires of an alchemist during the boom of the renaissance. Now, during the renaissance era is when the height of a prolonged lifestyle sparked birth, along with the desire to be rich and famous. So, of course, there had always been a search for a stone which could convert ordinary metals to gold, immortality for the spirit and soul, and the creation of artificial life.

“Now, unbeknownst to many alchemists, the true reasons behind the study of alchemy was not only for science, but for spiritual ambition as well. Alchemists believe that there is a quintessence, where the Above can be created in the Below, thus, heaven on earth in spirit and mind. So, with that in mind, there was only a very small percentage of alchemists true to the ideal of discovering the truth of alchemy, which is why in ancient texts, it can be impossible to discern which ingredients is being used because of the basic, generic terms used for each items.

“An alchemist must engage his studies with a pure heart if his desire is to achieve spiritual perfection and immortality. Essentially, you can almost call alchemy a religion, and the quintessence, heaven. But you will only be learning practical alchemy in this class, but there is a genuine scientific merriment to the philosophical aspect of alchemy. Which, I can explain very simply with this quote from an unknown alchemist.”

Quote:
“Would to God . . . all men might become adepts in our Art -- for then gold, the great idol of mankind, would lose its value, and we should prize it only for its scientific teaching.”

”Now, I do believe that concludes our lesson for the day, any questions?”

Professor Angel of House Ravenclaw stood from his perched position behind his tidy desk once his students had entered the classroom, at once, he bounded around the edge of his desk more than enthusiastic to begin the day. The motionless chalk nestled beside the board jumped with a sudden shock and began to write.

”Quite possibly the most famous alchemists in history are written on the board. For house points, can anyone give me any examples as to what contributions these historical figures had made to alchemy?”

David walked into Alchemy one of his top classes. He took a seat and began copying notes for the day’s class. It might have been his first day back but he suspected that they’d get right to work in this class at least. Alchemy wasn’t to be taken lightly and that was probably one of the reasons why he worked so hard in it. Aside of it being his favourite class he knew if he didn’t really work at it then he couldn’t be able to continue it after this year.

David took a seat in what had to be one of his top favourite classes. As words began writing on the board David took to writing the names that were there. Once he was done after listening to Professor Angel he raised his hand. “Well we know Nicolas Flamel created the philosopher’s stone and with that the elixir of life. Dumbledore helped him since they were friends and all right? He also told Flamel where to hid the stone.” He explained the more obvious ones. “Oh and I think Dzou Yen did something to do with the elements involved in Alchemy but I’m not exactly sure on that one...” he added sadly he didn’t know everything even with going to the library last year for the first time in his life.
