Apparently, A'rell was right. The firelizards were approaching the pair, and two of them in particular were desperate for a bit of meat. One of them was rushing right for the jerky Camriel held, but his brother wound up slapping him with a wing and a hiss, and pounced on the girl's offered jerky. Giving a little defiant shriek, the blue firelizard started tearing into the meat with reckless abandon. This meat was his, and this person was his, and his, his, his. If the little blue stopped to turn and hiss at others out and about -- perhaps giving Dolmar a baleful glare from where he feasted -- it couldn't be helped. This firelizard was every much a spitfire as Camriel.
The fallen flit had squealed with surprise when he face planted into the sand. Squirming and worming around in the sand, it took a few tries before he righted himself. Giving a small hiss at his brother, he turned up his nose at Camriel, and instead threw himself at A'rell. Giving a plaintive wail -- wouldn't he have pity on him!? -- the brown firelizard tried chewing on the others boots. Food. Food, food, food. Where was the food? Was boot food? If it was food, boots were mighty hard to bite into and the little firelizard needed help. It looked liable to start eating sand or fabric.
((If A'rell feeds the little flit real food he'll Impress. gaia_star ))

Camriel let out a happy gasp as the two firelizards came straight for them. A laugh, as the little blue defiantly slapped his brother out of the way and snatched the jerky out of her hands.
KITH THERE ARE THREE OF US! And her excitement was palpable.
It wasn't until the other flit, the brown, squealed that she turned her attention to him and saw the mildly horrified look on her brother's face as he watched the firelizard flailing to right himself.
"Are you okay?!" A'rell said, in spite of his previously proclaimed reluctance to Impress one of these little flits. He pawed at Camriel frantically. "Tell me you have more hare jerky. Cam I need your hare jerky."
Camriel giggled, watching the little brown gnaw heartily at her brother's boots. "Are you sure? I think he's having a go at your shoes."
"CAM."
The woman laughed again and fished into her pocket for more jerky. "Okay, okay! There's plenty to go around." She'd just handed a few strips to A'rell when her little blue snaked his head forward, hissed at his brother again, and grabbed more. "Oh, we are going to have a lot of fun together, little fella."

Sometimes the world could be cruel and it was about to be for poor Demanthra. For all that Ashlyn spent trying to assure her sister that maybe she would entice a firelizard, there was one flit that had a mind all their own.
There was a commotion around those closest to the nest, and someone shouted "Gold! Gold!" Unfortunately, as a few seemed to dive towards the newly hatched creature, there was a shrill shriek before it cut out. The poor startled creature had poofed Between.....
.....only to reappear directly above Ashlyn and Demanthra. With a cry of hunger, she crash landed squarely on Ashlyn's raised hand -- it had looked like a good perch to her at the time -- before the baby lost her grip and half-fell, half-rolled down the woman. Thankfully, she caught herself, digging into the other's fabric with her claws. Reaching out, the gold snatched some of the meat and began hastily eating. Yes. This seemed good enough to her. A tall, walking buffet seemed like a good idea, and so it was, with another shriek, she demanded Ashlyn feed her more.

There wouldn't be time for fish. No, if Jynnat had been concerned about the firelizards not recognizing what they offered as food, she was soon to be corrected. Sort of. Kind of. Maybe. There was a small scurry of wings, and a small flit half-flew and half-crashed into Jynnat. He wanted to eat and he wanted to eat now. Creeling, and crooning, the little bronze seemed unsure if it should beg or demand food. Food. Where was food? Was this food? Opening its maw wide, it decided to wait for Jynnat to feed him. Surely she wouldn't let him down, would she? Ok, so this one didn't quite know what was food and what wasn't, but he was depending on this girl to steer him right.

Did somebody say jerky?
As miraculous as it was, the strips that A'dras were eating seemed to catch the eye and ear of a particular firelizard. Perhaps she had been first to hatch, and had made her way past the crowds to try to (unsuccessfully) forage. Perhaps she simply had hopped Between further down the beach when all the commotion began. No matter the case, the fates dubbed it to be so, and a delicate, dainty little green suddenly found herself at the man's feet. Crooning ever so lovingly, she looked up with red, hungry eyes, and delicately reached out one long claw to poke at the man. Surely he would feed her? Surely? It wasn't polite to let a lady go hungry, after all.

As the moment wore on, Cal unceremoniously flopped back onto the sands, folding his legs under him as continued to hold out his meager offering. He rested his chin on his hand, with his elbow propped up on his knee while he watched the firelizards flitting about madly. He had a feeling this hatching was almost over. If he recalled rightly, there was only a short window after they hatched for a firelizard to bond to a human.
He looked around, trying to find where Finbar had gone. Well, at least his crew seemed happy. It was a nice morale boost after such a long journey, whether they impressed or not.
---
Finbar knelt down in the sands near the largest grouping of hatchlings. Though still holding out the handful of fish in the hopes of tempting one of them to him, his attention was increasingly drawn to the small creature's larger cousins instead. He'd been so focused on the hatching before that he barely noticed, but shells there were a lot of dragons around. As he followed a quick little blue with his eyes, he caught sight of one in particular that grabbed his attention.
"Woah. It's white." he muttered, standing up as he turned towards the smaller dragon. He'd been around a fair few dragons for his job, but he'd never seen one like that before. It was stunning. Could firelizards come in that color too?
