Keleres/WW/open
There was no time to lose! A'ral was rousing them from their cots, and Kel was determined today would be the day. She wouldn't be left behind. She and Mari would Impress, and go through weyrlinghood together, and fight Thread together too… a faint smile spread across her face as she bundled red curls into a tie. Looking as neat and presentable as first candlemark would permit, Kel followed the rest of the candidates being led onto the sands.
The heat was instantaneous through the soles of her sandals. She hopped a quick step, determined to not let it phase her as it had for the double clutch at High Reaches. No- she'd have her wits about her, and put her best foot forwards. Even if it was slightly sensitive and hot.
The first to hatch was a green- but her spotlight was stolen by the arrival of twin golds. Keleres gasped silently as the sight, but her gaze returned to the Paw Print green as she carelessly set upon the shells of her siblings. Oh dear! Oh no! That was no way to behave. Poor things… already, the young woman felt the tension in the air, and winced as a young queen booped the irritable sister on her nose. Hopefully there would be no bloodshed. It seemed Paw Print green was not going to settle for a reprimand- returning with a slash of her own. The fight devolved; the green being all but subdued, it seemed.
Oh, the poor things! Would their parents intervene? Keleres felt useless, a stab of sorrow for the newborn babies. Such distress on such an important day… surely finding their bonded, and finding love, was more important than anything?

Farellen frowned, this wasn't right.... the gold struck first, the green was clearly only defending herself but fighting ... please no fighting....., just go separate ways and find Yours, please babies...
~~~~~~~~~~
Helane flinched as the green hit back, then the gold retaliated again ... she bit her lip as she watched, dreaded seeing Ichor spill. It wasn't FAIR... the babies should be finding their riders, not fighting.
~~~~~~~~~~
Serfie clenched her fists this wasn't FAIR.... the green was only fighting back because her gold sister hit her first, then the green hit again and Serfie found herself cheering for her in her head. Then the gold swatted HARD at the green, sending her sprawl in the sand "HEY!" she cried, "Not fair!" poor paw print green.

Nonami - Western Weyr - Candidate - They/Them
They almost don't notice they aren't alone anymore, until the voice next to them almost rattles Nonami back from watching every little twist and shudder of the eggs -- and the little green that had first graced the sands. They peer up through a curtain of hair curiously, nervously. Yet they couldn't quite take their gaze off the green -- not entirely.
"S-- She is." Nonami nodded, as if to reaffirm this. They tried to smile back, and hope it didn't feel like the grimace that it felt like. "My momma rides a very nice green." Prattling useless facts to a total stranger wasn't something they should be doing, but nerves were popping slightly like a pot set to boil slowly.
The twin golds were certainly a surprise, as they had only seen the two golds from the double clutch -- their only clutch they'd stood for, before this one. Not much of a frame of reference. But they can't help the muffled squeak, more fitting of a mouse, as the pretty green goes on a bit of a tear, and -- oh, there went the daisy egg, and the gay flag egg in her wake. The dragonets looked relatively unharmed, good! But as the one queen twin rounded on the green, they can't quite help the squeak as they start fighting. Fear bubbles in a way that they try to squash down instantly, for these were not the same hatching sands, and that was not the same red-eyed green.
But.. as the green is swatted down, Nonami bit their lip, feeling.. oddly bad for the little baby green. Being overshadowed in gold was not a new feeling for the young candidate, and despite trying so hard to rein in their fear for the dispute, Nonami hoped the little green would find her rider -- and show Pern what she was made of.

TETH
My little love. Oh, how Teth wanted to get to her side and nuzzle, as he'd done her egg so often. It broke his hearts to see such agression in these eggs - did they not know how much he loved them??? How many nights he'd stayed with them, whispering and snooching? Green bean, all eyes are on you now!!!! You're the star, even if it wasn't the way you wanted - but that's how stars have to be right??? No one will ever look away from you now, you're best!!! The oldest, the smartest!!
Was Teth cheering her up or making it worse? Probably worse, but he was trying. They were wrong to hurt you and they know it. I won't forget it, and neither will Mama. This won't stand. He moved a wing a little. This spot here is just for you, if you want it.

Tosk/WW/Orry
Night work was not a novel experience for the young man- but hatchings were. The hum of the dragons began as a vibration deep in his skull. He ground his teeth, rousing just as A'ral came to wake them. Quickly, the man grew alert, almost wary as he put on the very unprotective candidate clothing (tradition did not seem to go hand-in-hand with common sense, it seemed), and joined the throng of candidates with an unfathomable stare.
The Touching could be called many things, but he was not a descriptive kind of man. He vaguely wondered if the eggs remembered individuals, but decided it mattered little at this stage anyway. Instead, he tried not to be too conspicuous, determined to simply lurk and observe. Who was he fooling with this candidacy business, anyway? At least at Rivercrest, he was good at his job.
Oh… there was that girl, who had helped teach him. She wore that bright smile as she seemed to glimpse him, and he turned his stony gaze on the sand beneath the rudimentary sandals. It would be rude not to acknowledge her. “Orry.” He greeted in a monotone drawl, slow and ponderous. At least now he had experienced company, just in case he had a question to ask...

Aryale
That twisting knot in her chest disappated in an instant when Bukichi bumped against her shoulder and she bumped him right back with hers. "Mornin'," she greeted softly. "That green is feisty," and it was all praise - though the assistance of the other eggs was curious enough. Gathering an army of her own? The nervous little blue from Gay Flag egg seemed to be having his own vapors about the whole thing.
So probably not any of them anytime soon. They'd not been ready - and in that sense, their moments had been stolen from them in turn. They too only got to hatch once. Aryale couldn't really pick a side - the fight seemed needless. She sent as many fond thoughts both babies' way instead.
Then she looked towards the other eggs that had been unceremoniously ripped open to send them support as well.
-----
Matotoka
Sometimes a sibling needed to be put in their place, even if it wasn't a pleasant experience for any of them. Matotoka glanced pointedly across the sands where his brother had joined up with his little friend - and their growing group. The dynamic was not entirely lost on him, after all.
So much activity and they still had a few babies hiding in their half-open eggs. Waiting for the excitement to die down, no doubt. No need to compete for a moment, there are enough moments for everybody. Take your time.
-----
Papys
Papys flinched as the little green was knocked down, but quickly sent her and her sisters every good and kind thought he could. Being the littlest sibling is hard - nobody wants to play with you as much because you're small and maybe not as strong. Have a brave heart and bold spirit! I know you all have at least one of those! he beamed, maybe not the best support he could - Papys was a bit of an idiot, after all...but the intention was good.

Jacquol—She/Her Alright, well... A lot had happened in not a lot of time. That big olive egg had hatched into twin golds, which was a wild surprise, and boy were they pretty... but Jackie really had no interest in riding a gold. All that responsibility and whatnot... less so at Western than other places, but still. Talk about a life sentence to staying put. No, she wished them all the best, hoped they'd find just the right riders for them, but she was certain it would not be her—ex-pirates just didn't fit with little queens, and she had a handsome brownrider to run away with one day!
The green who'd hatched first had 'helped' several other eggs hatch, which Jackie couldn't blame her for. Being awake was far more exciting than being asleep, and being in an egg was like being asleep, right? She'd almost completely forgotten the late hour now, too excited by everything to even feel tired. Of course, she still had the sense to feel wary when things turned a bit rougher; one of the golds lashed out at the green for who knew what reason, and the green fought back (as one could expect—tit for tat and all that, and the Paw Green didn't seem like the type to back down without her due)...and was struck down. That got a slight frown from the girl, a tsk of disapproval that she quickly swallowed. She had her opinion on the goings on, of course (and bullying between bigger and smaller children), but she'd been told sooo many times to stay positive, or else. Poor little green. C'mon, stand up! Don't let her keep you down! And there really was no shame in her mind if the green chose to run off, live to hiss another day...
Meztli—They/Them/He/Him Aaaalright, well, that was enough to wake them up a bit more. Suddenly there were, what, six dragonets on the sands? Two sets of twins and two spare greens? This thing was hopping. Their eyes glittered almost greedily as they roved over the still-wet hides of all the dragonets, taken with every shade of color and marking they caught a glimpse of. Lovely, just... so lovely! They almost entirely missed the confrontation between gold and green, so wrapped up in the contrast of their colors and not their actions.
They weren't totally oblivious though, and they'd been at the last hatching, the one where a boy'd died at High Reaches. Almost regretfully they forced themselves to shift from foot to foot, limbering up just slightly and shaking off the lingering shackles of drowsiness. If the babies were fighting, it might spread... but hopefully not. They were ALL stunning creatures, and they really would rather just look at them all than have to run away...

Farellen almost yelled, but held himself back in time. It wasn't right, the green and the gold should NOT be fighting... this was bad... he really tried hard not to tell them to stop, his fists clenched at his sides, remembering the bronzes he'd tried to stop fighting, remembering teeth and claws, then the darkness.... he rubbed at his face under his eyepatch before trying to tear his eyes away from the fight, to watch the little green from the Daisy egg, coming to look at the candidates.
~~~~~~~~~~
Helane felt sick, it was one thing a couple of swats but the green was really trying to hurt the gold now, even if she'd had good cause to, it wasn't nice, she didn't like this at all, her stomach turned and she had to clamp her hands over her mouth to keep from crying out. This was awful.
~~~~~~~~~~
Serfie winced as the green and the gold started to fight, though she was rather happy the green was so ready to stand up for herself against a bigger opponent. Even if that green wasn't meant for her, she would always think of her fondly, good on her standing up to the bully of a gold, Still... she didn't like the fighting. She was forced to look away as a couple more eggs rocked and the tiny green from the first egg brown paw print green had torn open, started to eye the candidates, "hi" she thought gently.

Keris - High Reaches Weyr - Standidate - She/Her
Keris leaned forward slightly, eyes flitting back and forth as she watched the quite.. bombastic start to this hatching. But it was only when the green and the one of the twin! golds began to fight that Keris searched a bit more frantically for Phryana --- and found them more to the side, with a small candidate at her own side. Safe, okay.
The babies, less so. But she could only worry her lip, and hope that the babies would find something more interesting -- like candidates.
The woman leaned back a touch, but her grip on Ulix's sleeve hadn't quite unclenched.
Nonami - Western Weyr - Candidate - They/Them
Tense though they may have been, try as they wanted to calm down, seeing the little green leap on her sister made Nonami jump. Instinct had them cling -- and unfortunately the closest to cling to.. was Phryana's hand. They weren't fighting candidates, but fighting each other was just as bad. Sure, the gold hadn't been in the right, but.. Neither was the green at this point.
