Heida -- HR -- she/her
More eggs started moving, and that was getting everyone excited! Heida could hear the low murmurs of conversation amongst the Candidates, and she shook her head. Their attention was supposed to be on the eggs and the hatchlings, not each other! She continued to hum along with the dragons and think pleasant, happy, welcoming thoughts at the eggs.
Tarroi -- HR -- he/him
The eggs were really starting to get lively, weren't they? It should be any time now, Tarroi mused, that one of them -- at least one -- would hatch. Idly he wondered what color it would be...
Trude -- Western -- she/her
So intent was Trude on watching the eggs that she didn't notice when the other Candidate came up to her, so when they started speaking she jumped a little. "Oh! Oh yes, it's really hard to stay calm about this," she replied with a small smile. "This... is my first Hatching. I've only been a Candidate for a few sevendays..." Turning her attention back to the wobbling eggs, she began unconsciously bouncing on her toes again. "It's -- it's so exciting!" she half-whispered. The warmth of the sand didn't seem to bother her.

Zelaya of High Reaches—She/Her/They/Them Zelaya had no complaints as she rose from bed and made herself presentable, being sure her robe was entirely perfect before heading out with all the rest. The dragonets couldn't be asked to wait, and it was her—and all the other candidates'—honor to oblige them, if you asked her. The chance to become a rider, to serve the Weyr... that was worth the lost sleep.
She bowed in deep respect to the parents of the clutch before fixating on the eggs, positioning herself front, if not center. She had no fear of the hatchlings, they were as they ought to be, after all. They were the treasured future guardians of Pern. Heroes-yet-to-be. She sucked a slight breath when the first of the eggs split open... one she had touched. One she had been, if not liked, at least approved of by. A strapping brown spilled glistening onto the sands, and she felt a small curl of joy to see him. Not for her, of course, a brown... but he was a fine creature, and would be a beloved asset to the Weyr and whomever was so lucky as to have him as their own.
Finnisa of High Reaches—She/Her Early mornings were not unfamiliar to her, but waking up in the dead of night was still never enjoyable. Thankfully the exhaustion seemed to only dull her nerves, rather than enhance them. and she'd come stepping onto the sands with the rest, her robes tugged on mostly straight and rubbing sleep rapidly from her eyes. The sight of the eggs, rocking slowly in their seats, helped to rouse her further, and turned her sleepy disinterest into a more solemn, if anxious focus.
Silently she sidled into place among the crowd, where she could get a clear view, but wasn't in anyone's way. Well, hopefully. She had no intentions of going anywhere from that spot unless she had to, and so she set about making herself comfortable, as far as she could. A few eggs were wobbling now... but which would be first?

[kaiator - he/him - HR]
A Brown! Shards, though, he was something. Kaiator couldn't help but stare--this was the first time he'd seen an actual real-life dragonet before, not to mention one so close. That red tint was--perhaps a bit concerning, but he calmed himself with a quiet hum of approval instead. Really, the Brown had just woken up himself, if...that was even how this worked. No wonder he wasn't too terribly pleased.
[alisaide - they/them/he/him - HR]
"It's my first too!" Alisaide wasn't sure if that was obvious or not, but they at least hoped they were doing a good enough job of passing for an experienced Candidate either way. "I think we'll be just fine. We picked a great spot, too--did you see how much some of the eggs are moving already?" As if on cue, the sharp crack of a splitting shell rang out, and their head snapped around as they tried to scan the clutch for--oh.
There was a dragonet on the Sands. An actual dragonet, standing proud and tall, surveying the Candidates like they were his domain. And--really, they were, in a sense. "Ohh, there you are." they murmured, their smile spreading into a grin once more. That Brown had come out so--cleanly! Surely that was a good sign! "Just look at him. He's absolutely beautiful, isn't he?"

There he was, the little star of the show - so far, anyway. Kedah's face split in a grin, as she slid into place beside Heida. There wasn't any point hiding from these beautiful babies, as that was the very reason they were there... and Kedah didn't feel like playing at a bashfulness that she didn't feel. One interesting thing, though, was how calm the mother of the clutch seemed to be. Didn't golds normally get a little possessive of their clutches?
Either way, the babies were definitely everyone's current reason for existing. And what a reason! Eager to see more of the little tykes on the Sands, Kedah gave a long stretch, shifting from one foot to the other in a lazy feline movement.
But Fehral was not feeling nearly so confident. The hand squeeze from Chayrel was certainly welcome... yet after so many near misses, how could anyone feel secure? Who knew what this clutch would want in lifemates? After all, they'd only just had the opportunity to touch a few of the eggs. Still, he tried not to project his worry onto the awaiting infants. Squeezing Chayrel's hand back, he stood quietly beside him. "... Guess we know who hatches first," he replied.

Elibrie - she/her
And just as Juhvek said it, there it was, and all of her thoughts about what was and wasn't proper for a girl to Impress vanished from her mind. Oh. Oh. "He's perfect," Elibrie breathed, even as her sister admired him as well. Somehow, there was something even more impressive about seeing a baby dragon than there was an adult, no matter their size or beauty. Freshly-hatched, the brown was like a little miracle, and she was almost immediately a little bit in love.
Something finally clicked into place, and it dawned on her that this was what all the fuss was about. Though she was of course a willing Candidate to start with, she now understood in a way she hadn't before.
Ilzerin - he/him
So that one was first, and what a fine brown that one was. Not about to make the same mistake twice, Ilzerin made sure his thoughts on the quality of the hatchling were clear: that he was the finest brown he'd yet seen, and the perfect way to start the Hatching. He even dipped down in a small bow.
Nashwa - she/her
Aha, a brown first! And he was quite a handsome one, as she knew everyone was surely observing, whether aloud or no. Other eggs wiggled - and one had even cracked - but Nashwa kept her attention on the dragonet who was making himself known.

Talayla of Gold Ageiroth - Harpiath, Zenobiath mention Oh, that Zenobiath. Her words were polite, but the meaning was clear. Ageiroth bristled, but let it go. Fine, if she didn't want Ageiroth's help. Ageiroth could help her weyr--and these weyrlings--in other ways, she was sure. While Ageiroth and her rider watched the eggs, waiting patiently, Ageiroth gave some offhanded sarcasm to Harpiath. Maybe dragons can go senile after all, she mused, in an offhanded manner, but her words dripped with irritated venom. I suppose you must be the first, if you think yourself so wise, you old hag.
Tsunake Not sure if it was clear, but I was using bold to imply that she was speaking to someone other than her rider--but I'm not sure if it looks too much like broadcasting, so I'll switch to italics!
---
Nyrida The candidate watched as the eggs struggled, wondering which would hatch first. Her bets were on Holly, but it was Starry Night who hatched first. A lovely shell gave way to a lovely dragon, but the little brown did not seem satisfied with the lack of attention. All eyes are on you, little one, Nyrida thought towards him, knowing her thoughts would likely get lost in the shuffle. She was not pressing or insistent, but offered up a sense of caring towards this dragon. He would do great things, she was sure. He was beautiful, and the world knew it; she would do all she could to assuage his concerns.
((Kyzier will be coming in a sec but suffice to say, they are super excited and cooing to Ruunan about how cute starry night is. Perfect baby!))

Candidate Heida -- HR -- she/her
An egg suddenly cracked open, revealing a handsome brown dragonet! Heida was delighted, even though the baby looked less than pleased. He hatched from that egg that was so dismissive of her too, she remembered, so she simply sent happy welcoming thoughts to him, figuring he'd choose someone else, someone more worthy of him.
Candidate Tarroi -- HR -- he/him
Tarroi's eyes widened as the first egg hatched. A brown! Now that was a good sign.Although the baby dragonet's eyes were red with displeasusre. The young man swallowed and kept his thoughts happy; he hoped nothing bad was going to happen....
Candidate Trude -- Western -- she/her
Before Trude could respond to her new friend (friend? were they a friend?), one of the eggs broke open and a handsome little brown dragonet emerged. She couldn't help but stare -- baby dragons were a little bit bigger than she thought they would be... "He's... he's gorgeous," she breathed in awe. Hello, little baby. Welcome to the world, she thought at it, wondering who the hatchling would pick as His.

Haveli
Haveli inwardly hissed at the arm wrapped around her, at Mel's unwanted affections, and at Little Boy in general. Her feet had clearly betrayed her if this was how things were going to be and she should have just faced the dragonets alone on the sands.
Again.
No, she needed to be calm, and again her lips curled as she faked her best smile. Mel's arm was gingerly peeled off, though not in such a fast motion as to cause visual distraction to anyone. "Don't talk, just pay attention. Wouldn't want your lovely face to be marred up before you bronze can find you, Little Boy. And you too, Mel. We can't become the trio who is nearly killed on the sands, since I'm not looking for a repeat performance of the last hatching."
Then an egg hatched, and a brown came out, and its words were so painfully familiar. It reminded her of how many of the dragonets had acted last time, how some of the adults had as well, with things like worthy or the like. It wasn't doing much for her already starting to ripple mind state, but Haveli forced herself back to a neutral calm and welcoming and everything else that had been drilled into her. Mother and the Masters were watching after all.
If this brown wanted her to act like she thought he was the greatest thing on Pern she'd certainly give it a try. She had to, needed to, and so again and always her lips twitched into that feigned and painful smile smirk. He was a lovely dragon, for what it was, and yet another egg she hadn't touched. "A lovely, healthy brown. Hopefully someone among our lowly group is worthy of him."
She didn't mean the Trio, but the candidates as a whole. She couldn't think any other way. Happy, positive, fawning. Follow the steps Haveli, get ahead.
She could do this.
----------
Yura
Yura was pretty sure his face was matching his hair in terms of shades of red as he made his way towards where Nyara was. She said she'd saved him a seat and Nevidenth's lovely tease about golds and girlfriends was all too fresh for him to properly process at this unFaranthly hour. They were super good friend, if he could recall, and there was nothing wrong with bronzeriders and goldriders being friends (he'd seen plenty of brown and gold friendships too) and shells and shards he was going to make a certain dragon pay for getting him pointlessly riled up so early like this. "You're awfully chipper for the hour. I wish I had a bit of your energy." She'd also said she drank and Yura....hadn't the thought to try drinking yet. Partly because he was still in his baby teens (his mother's words) and partly because the idea of what injuries he may obtain while drunk had him terrified. "And you should just stick to klah, I think you're charming enough company without the need for wine."
A soft smile spread as Yura properly settled in, and before he could make a comment on what or who would hatch first the eggs did all the talking for him. A lovely little brown was on the sands, and he couldn't help but laugh softly at the words and attitude. Haha, he reminds me of your brother, Nevidenth. Don''t you think? The bronze rumbled some sort of agreement from wherever he was, and the fond memory stayed. "What a beautiful baby. It's so strange to be on this side watching, you know? I never thought I'd be a rider, let alone a bronze one, let alone here at High Reaches." Sometimes he had to pinch himself. "The red eyes are a bit unsettling. Do you think everyone will be okay?"
-------
R'ose
Despite having been told by Sahrawith that he could just go back to sleep (as she wanted to, given their long sweep drill the day before), R'ose was dressed and sitting in the stands. He didn't have any emotional connection to a single candidate on the sands now, all the ones he'd once considered friends long out out of candidacy and even weyrlinghood, but that didn't mean he couldn't come and see the cute babies. He was a weyrbrat after all and hatchings were part of his favorite thing. Baby dragons were cute! And this little brown was no exception! Hey Sawi, maybe you'll find a new love down there? Lots of people say that maybe the reason folks are always so lonely is their true love hasn't arrived yet.
The green snorted rather unladylike in his head, prompting a chuckle. The previous Turn had not been kind to either of them in terms of.....personal things, so new life was always a chance for a new and fresh start. I'll let you know if I see any hot studs come rolling around. Gotta make sure my number one girl is taken care of, yanno?
If you really cared, Sahrawith sniffed, you'd shave that disgusting facial hair. You look like you lost a fight with something and I'm not even willing to try and make a story up for you for it. There was love but also open disgust. He really needed to shave.
Quote: R'ose and Sawi are open for interactions!!
