Well. It was that time again.

Neither Lilah nor Bayeth could be described as eager to fight Thread, particularly after Bayeth has lost a leg to it, but it was still their duty, and neither one would back down from it. Would terrible things happen? Yes. Would they get hurt? Yes. Would it kill them, sooner rather than later? Almost certainly. Bayeth worried terribly about it, but with help from his rider's unflappable nature, he dealt with it. And while she might be resigned to the inevitable, he would do his best to delay it for as long as possible!

The day's fight had barely begun, however, when bad luck frowned upon them. As the blue flamed a clump of Thread, another fell down onto them - practically right onto Lilah! They went Between as quickly as possible, and when they popped out into open air, Bayeth was creeling with concern. Mine, oh Mine! Are you alright? Do you need the Healers?

It's nothing, Bay, don't worry about it. What were more scars and ruined leathers? She did glance up, wondering crossly who'd let that one get past them, and...of course. Of course it would be M'lem, someone she couldn't rightly be cross with. Hmph.

The next clump that fell through, at least, was smaller, and didn't come down directly on top of them. Bayeth was able to burn it to ash in a matter of moments.

It was hard enough already to try and focus on everything that was going on in the dusklight. The wind surge caught Aresoth off guard and the bronze hissed as a chunk of Thread connected with his left shoulder. Blinking between and coming back out another few seconds later C'ryn checked in on the bronze, getting reassurance that he was okay.

Another clump of Thread plummeted down from above, but this time, someone swooped in to save the day. Bayeth crooned gratefully at the bronze, blue swirling into his otherwise yellow eyes. Thank you, Cordrath! I owe you!

Though steady as could be, not given to bouts of excitability or rushes of adrenaline, Zijianth did find deep satisfaction in fighting Thread, in going into battle alongside his wingmates and doing his duty to the Weyr and to Pern. The slender, wide-winged bronze wasted no time in flaming first one clump, the another, then a sliver here, then a sheet there, and it didn't feel like long at al before he was in need of firestone. A'ryx tossed it to him, but as Zijianth chewed, he bit down on his own tongue.

Hmph. Silly, but it happened.

Refusing to let it get to him, Zijianth dove to catch a strand of Thread, and flamed a bit sooner than perhaps he ought to have - but he did get it!

An especially strong gust of wind threatened to blow them out of formation, but Zijianth fought against it, and kept himself right where he was supposed to be. Just like there had been no wind at all! Nothing to see here...

What was it with the wind? And they were only at low altitude! This time, it caught Zijianth's wings in just such a way that it did blow him off-course, just enough to gust him into a small sliver of Thread. Shards!

Returning from Between, they got right back to work, but before long, a rather nasty tangle of Thread slipped through the ranks above them, and caught Zijianth right on the edge of his wing. As quickly as possible, they went Between again so that he could be rid of it, but Faranth, that one had rather left a mark!

Righting themselves after the hit from the hit from the gust of wind the bronze pair easily took out a clump of thread. They continue to fly forward,

Tossing a chunk of firestone to Aresoth, C'ryn turned his attention to scanning the skies around them, until the pain had a hand moving towards his mouth. Aresoth was quick to take the majority of the pain back, forcing his attention back to the air around them.

Glad to have been spared what might well have been an ugly new scar, Bayeth was cheered slightly, and crooned encouragement to another of his wingmates. They would get through this!

...hmm. All of a sudden, something just didn't feel right at all. Ilah glanced over her shoulder, and lo and behold, drifting down towards them was a strand of Thread, which they were able to blink between and avoid.

Their luck didn't quite last, however, and no sooner had they emerged than a thermal caught them by surprise and pushed them off course, right into a knot of Thread. Yowch! Bayeth hopped Between again to get it off of his wing.
