28. Well, not much is happening. Either the Wings are doing their job, or things are mighty quiet. You know your thoughts shouldn't wander or stray.... but you look away for a moment, stretching your neck, and resettling yourself on your dragons back. Unfortunately, things happen quickly. Your dragon lets out a shriek of pain as you're hit with Thread! You hadn't seen it fall from behind, too far back from where your dragon could see. Roll a D4 for Damage! 1. It's a nasty tangle that gets over you and your dragon! Though they pop Between, it's caught part of their wingsail, and may have burrowed into their sensitive stomach and side. Better hope the cold of Between gets all of it! Major damage -10 HP
Together the white and his rider flew in silence, the sorrow of the loss overwhelming them. They had drilled with Thella and Lireloth since they'd joined Trespassers and now...they hadn't even been there to try to help...
Remi let out a bellow as pain lanced through him, Mi'ra crying out as it seared his mind as well. A massive clump of Thread had tangled along Remi's entire body, making it impossible to even fly. As they fell they jumped Between, Mi'ra directing Remi back to the weyr. He'd need immediate attention.

Sylfie spotted another errant strand of Thread drifting down, and Hesperith swooped after it, but miscalculated - instead of putting Hers into a position to burn it, she got too close, and it wrapped around her foreleg! The pair blinked Between to shed it, but shards, that had hurt!

When they returned, an especially strong gust of wind kicked up, and Hesperith had to fight to keep in proper formation. She muscled through it, refusing to give so much as an inch.

Much as Sylfie hated fighting Thread, at the same time, she felt terrible for not being able to do more. Those in the other wings risked far more, and already today they'd lost one. And here she was in relative safety, compared to others at least, with the gall to resent what she had to do. Maybe it would be different, if she didn't have to rely on a flamethrower that she could never quite bring herself to trust...she would never wish for Hesperith to be any other color, but oh, if only golds could flame! Then she need never fear that there wouldn't be a flame when they most needed it.

17. You see a stray strand writhe out of the corner of your eye. Your rider quickly twists in her seat, and catches the errant strand with a well-timed aim of their flamethrower! +1 Target Accuracy
Back in the action with the Queens, Remi focused hard on his job. He had to for Lireloth's sake. He was just a white and couldn't really fill the hole a brown had left, but he would try! He caught sight of a lone bit of Thread and turned quickly, firing a short blast towards it. Good.

1-5. This clump of thread had its eye on you. It defied all the odds and made it through not one, but three wings of dragon riders actively fighting above! It's up to you to flame it! If not a Queen, you successfully flame that Thread down and turn it down into harmless ash! Take that! Job well done! +2 Flame Length
Oh, this was a tricky clump of Thread. How many dragons and riders had it evaded on it's way through. How many other deft draons had it still managed to pass? Well, not this one. Mereketh had had enough of near misses and tiny remnants of Thread to eradicate. This time, this massive danger? It would threaten no more dragons and to no more harm. Mereketh flamed it to ash, then flew in a tight circle, his own sort of victory dance before settling in to watch again.

The day wasn't getting any shorter. The fight wasn't going to get any easier. Despite the depth of Aedeth's stubbornness -- despite that truth about both of them, actually -- there were limits to endurance and stability. When the wind shifted yet again, battering at Aedeth's wings, Niobet tucked a little lower against the gold's neck, murmuring as encouragingly as she thought, Wind will not break us when Thread cannot.
And the queen snorted, then bugled defiance at a silly little thing like wind, righted herself and held her place.

That scoring had really taken it out of Aedeth, but she was not about to give in if she could still fly at all. With Niobet looking out for her and all the bandaged bits holding fast, she'd be fine. No one needed to know.
