Vith fought on despite the pain and although K'mar didn't have a wing to sting and ache, he still felt it eating away in his mind. Thanks to their years of fighting together they were good at blocking out things that could be ignored, and on they went to sear more Thread from the sky in retaliation.

A bit exhausted from all the maneuvering, Vith and K'mar tried to valiantly chase down a bit of Thread that escaped them. They hopped Between to try to catch up to it - even Vith's rather impressive flame length wouldn't reach it - only to find they'd overshot. A scream of pain from below them made Vith's hearts ache, knowing he could have saved his wingmate from the searing pain of Thread.

But an encouraging word from his Wingsecond lifted Vith's spirits a bit, and when their wingmate returned with minor scathing he did feel better. He'd just have to do better next time.

No sooner had they appeared back in formation than they were blown right out of it. Nzambith struggled against the wind but eventually gave up, letting it push them far out of where they should be, her muscles aching as she tried to keep them at the right altitude at the very least.

"C'mon, Nzambith, let's get back up there and help," Vennodren urged. Nzambith did as she was told, ever eager to please her rider, but she was still trying to recover from fighting the wind. She did flame down some Thread as she went but she was more focused on the exhaustion in her than anything else.

Some of that flamed Thread created an ash cloud that Nzambith and Vennodren flew through. It stung their skin and their hide, but Nzambith didn't flinch. Vennodren did, but he steeled himself to keep going. Nzambith was tired but she was still fighting so he could ignore a few mild burns.

The wind was once again their enemy. Venn tried to coax Nzambith to try, but she let the wind push her where it wanted, which was right into a clump of Thread. The pain urged her Between when Vennodren called for the jump, and when she emerged the cold of the quiet, still space seemed to revitalize her a bit.

    It never is.

    O'len chose not to remind his brown of some of the more painful injuries they had shared since they'd met.

    That's why I'm so bored. Aleyath darted out of the way of an errant strand or two of Thread, half of his attention searching for any handsome dragons that might have been watching his display of agility. We could be doing anything else.

    And leaving people to die.

    Yeah. I guess.

Ce'rys saw the danger, and Astariarth communicated it to their wingmate! Thank Faranth they moved out of the way in time. The little green tasted the air once more, testing the sensitivity of her tongue.

Flaming Thread was an easy exercise at its core- but bad weather conditions could make it frightful. As 'Star unleashed a bout of flame on an unsuspecting patch before them, the wind blew hot char back into their faces. Both Ce'rys and his green spluttered, the man pulling his flying scarf higher. Don't worry Mine... it won't happen again! She tried for optimism, despite the stinging sensation around her face.

As Astariarth battled fierce winds, she felt a twinge in her wings and gave a low rumble. Ce'rysMine... I think I might have pulled a muscle... She borrowed from his clinical knowledge, trying to reassure herself that all would be well.

It seemed she was still able to fly, for Ce'rys had to suppress a boyish whoop as she dodged a threatening piece of Thread. Another wingmate swooped by and flamed it from the sky, much to his appreciation.

3. You're able to Between above the sheet, but it's too far to actually flame. Your wingmates below are going to have to take care of it!


Luck or fate favoured them that moment. As a large patch of Thread threatened their lives, Astariarth moved Between, all fear and anticipation held in her hearts. As they reappeared, another wingmate had taken over flaming it for them, and the entry space was safe. Phew. Ce'rys did not want to imagine what might have happened had their Wing not been quite so well trained.
