'Really? Strain how? Fatigue? Or headache? Or something else entirely?' Joshua's attention was now totally on Katalina and demystifying her abilities. Though Lucian was still sitting on him, to Joshua's mind, the dragon was miles away. It wasn't intentional, just that when trying to understand something, everything else became irrelevant. Even if that 'everything else' was a sea-dragon turned human pinning him to the ground.

Katalina shook her head as though he could see her, which she guessed maybe he even could. Not like that, exactly. It's not a physical thing. It's more...more mental. Things go dim. I can't hear the animals so well anymore. Colours are harder to see. I got my worst catch on a fish hook right after I'd been using it. It's just...Strain, like I said, she explained carefully. That wasn't quite right, but she didn't know how else to explain herself.

'Oh.' Joshua was a little disappointed that she couldn't explain it better. Still, he shrugged, figuring she was doing her best. 'I am sorry you got caught like that.' He glanced up at Lucian, perched upon him. "Do you plan on moving anytime soon?" He wondered, his voice nonchalant.

Lucian was playing with his bracelets when he heard Joshua speak to him. He looked down and stared at him for minutes before answering. He was really comfortable, but decided it was for the best if he moved. “Lucian will move.” He stood up and stretched towards the sky. Big blue wings sprang from his back, ripping his shirt in the process. He grabbed Joshua around the waist and lifted him up, setting him on his feet. “Lucian put you there…he will also help you up,” he said with a wide smile.

"Thanks. That was starting to get a little uncomfortable. Being squished like that." Joshua dusted himself off, grimacing. Sand could be irritating at times. 'Hopefully none got down the suit.' Shrugging, he decided not to worry about it. If it happened, it happened. "Hey Lucian? Why do you talk in third person?" As he spoke, Joshua looked at the wings then back to Lucian's face. "May I?" He asked, reaching out a hand towards the wings.

Lucian face turned red, “Lucian…Lu-..Lucian has…” He was to embarrass to speak so he spoke in his mind instead. ‘I can speak with you like this all the time, but when I speak out loud it is harder for me to say things. Since I kissed you, it sounds like to you, I am speaking English…but to me I am speaking my own language. It is also reversed for me when you speak.’ He spread his wings and brought them closer for Joshua to inspect. Nodding his head, ‘Yes, you may.’

'Well.' He thought. 'That's interesting. Just how does that work?' Joshua wondered if Lucian knew how. Reaching out, he touched the soft membrane of the wings. "They're so soft!" He exclaimed in surprise. Really, he'd been expecting a more scaly feeling. Instead, the wings were soft, more like a bat than a snake. Joshua stroked the wings. He paused and put both hands to the one wing. Glancing at Lucian to make sure it wasn't uncomfortable, Joshua ran his hands over the bone structure of the wing. Carefully he put a small amount of pressure on the edge, wanting it to fold in slowly.

Well, it's not your fault, Katalina replied airily, so why should you be sorry? Inspecting the happenings on shore with an interested eye, she told Lucian, I told you he likes to study us. I think he likes us as friends, but also as subjects. That last was said with a trace of sadness - Katalina knew all about being a subject.

'Katalina?' He asked, catching the note of sadness. 'It's not that. I wouldn't do anything to make you uncomfortable.' He tried to defend himself. Though, to him, it was in vain. When she said it like that, it really did seem as though he only wanted to study them. Joshua dropped his hands from Lucian's wing, not wanting to seem like those cold scientists at their labs.

Lucian was shivering with happiness then when Joshua moved his hand, he opened his eyes and stared at him. A frown on his face, he grabbed Joshua’s hand and put it back on his wing. Lucian shivered with excitement again, closing his eyes enjoying his touch. He sent the mermaid a message, ‘Everyone is curious about something they do not know. When I first seen a human, I thought they were exotic creatures…that is until I realize how many there were. I did my share of poking and touching too.’

Joshua looked at Lucian, as if to say are you sure. But he didn't remove his hand this time. Gently, he traced the 'finger' bones. The membrane of the wing was so fine, you could almost see them. He slowly stretched out the wing, gripping it lightly by the edge. Watching the membrane stretch was interesting. When the wing stop extending easily, Joshua reversed the pressure on the wing, watching how the wing membrane folded in upon itself. It really was a marvelous structure. Placing his palm on it, he smoothed the wing until it was extended again. Joshua watched as his touch sent shivers through Lucian. "Are your wings really sensitive?" He asked.

Lucian was in pure heaven, especially imagining Joshua washing his wings with his gentle touch. He always had a hard time reaching certain parts. He spread his wings to the full length for his inspection. ‘It feels nice, sort of ticklish. They get much bigger in my full form.’ Lucian rested his forehead against Joshua’s shoulder, enjoying every minute.

Katalina's weary sigh floated on the air. Both Joshua and Lucian would have heard it. Sorry, Joshua. That remark, as my old clan leader used to say, was absolutely uncalled for, young lady. I guess I'm still a little bitter. That said, she closed herself off. She wanted to think in privacy, and scrambling her mind to keep Lucian out seemed the only way just now.

Joshua smiled at Katalina's comment. 'It's okay.' He told her, not sure if she'd heard or not. 'How much bigger do they get?' He asked Lucian. He'd finished examining the wings for his own pleasure now. Though he was loathe to stop. The wings were so smooth and soft. And it wasn't like Lucian minded. So Joshua kept runningn his hands over the wings. Sometimes he used his palm, other times, just his fingertips. 'Why do sea-dragons have wings?' He wondered. 'It doesn't seem like they're really needed. What do you use them for Lucian? Can you actually fly?' The wings seemed small and weak for that, but then, Lucian had said they got bigger. And looking weak and fragile, didn't mean that they were.
