Lucian settled on the ground and let Joshua go. ‘It seems that she wants to handle it. Shall we wait and watch from the shore line?’ He changed into his human form, now only wearing leather pants. He grumbled a little about having to buy a new shirt now. He landed in front of the girl, that gave him goodies, path and smiled at her when she came near. He then looked back at the boat.

'Alright. Just be careful.' Joshua thought to Katalina. He settled himself to watch the mermaid work. Hopefully, she'd be okay. Joshua tucked himself behind some of the trees to watch. He glanced around to see where Lucian was disappearing to.

Lucian taped Joshua’s shoulder, ‘I’m here, just waving at her.’ He pointed to the girl they meet earlier. He glanced back at Joshua and nipped him on the shoulder. He was debating if he should take Joshua back to one of his homes, but decided that maybe he should wait.

Joshua raised an eyebrow at Lucian. 'Did you just.....bite me?' He just shook his head, brushing it off. 'And I'm not your nanny. I was just curious as to where you were going.' A smile was on Joshua's face as he tried to picture himself as a nanny. A small giggle escaped him.

Lucian’s bottom lip stuck out in a pout, ‘I…don’t…bite.’ He tried to look as innocent as he could and when Joshua turned away again he nipped his shoulder once more, glancing away to look not guilty.

Joshua just looked at the sea-dragon. 'So if it's not biting, then what is it?' He shook his head once more. A small smile was on his face. 'You really are a strange creature.' He returned his sight back to the sea, worry for Katalina making him frown.

Lucian’s smile faded as he spaced out, remembering his past encounters with humans. He knew he shouldn’t get too attached, knowing that the humans will eventually turn on him or leave. Then he would be all alone again. He glanced down at the silver necklace he was wearing. Turning it over, his fingers brushed over the marks he made on the medallion. The marks represented every human he actually became friends with, which wasn’t many over the years. He closed his eyes remembering how some confessed to him, oh how it scared him. He knew he broke some of their hearts when he told them he couldn’t be with them, even though he knew what he really wanted. Most of those turned on him and gave away his identity to hunter. Lucian thoughts went to Joshua, should he try to stay away from him? Or risk everything once again and get his heart shattered. Joshua was the first person he wanted to be around in over 300 years. Lucian shook his head to rid himself of his thoughts. He will have to think about staying or leaving later.

Joshua noticed Lucian didn't answer him. He spun back to face the sea-dragon. "Lucian?" He asked, his voice soft. 'Are you okay?' Joshua saw the medallion Lucian was playing with. He reached out to touch Lucian on the shoulder. He seemed to be spacing out. 'Lucian, what's wrong?' Joshua's mental voice clearly showed his worry for his friend.

Lucian looked up and smiled sorrowfully, his playful attitude diminished. ‘I’m sorry, I was just thinking about something I shouldn’t have.’ He reached over and grabbed Joshua by the hand and pulled him forward. He wrapped his arms over Joshua’s shoulder and hugged him tightly, burying his face in his shoulders. "Lucian thanks you for worrying about him."

Joshua was startled for a second when Lucian pulled him into a hug. Then he relaxed and wrapped his own arms around Lucian's waist. 'I don't like to see my friends sad.' Joshua thought, by way of explanation. He didn't know what else he could say to cheer the sea-dragon up. He settled for rubbing his hands soothingly along Lucian's back.

Oh, I'm always careful, she retorted.

Katalina climbed - well, more like slithered - out of the water onto a large rock. She knew the human at the wheel could see her, judging by his gape-mouthed expression. With a small, satisfied smile, she beckoned him closer and started to sing.

Whoops, should have warned you, she thought to Joshua, still singing the nonsense songs that mermaids liked, close your ears.

She watched the boat inch closer...and closer still...
Then, the driver apparently deciding she was real, gunned the motor.
Unfortunately for him, that was exactly what Katalina had been counting on. She watched, amused, as the boat went smash against the sharp-edged rocks littered around the one she had chosen, and sank slowly into the water.

Lucian stood there then heard Katalina’s voice. His hands covered Joshua’s ears as he watched the scene plays out. A slow smile crossed his lips at the brave little mermaid. He admired her courage. His heart did a flip when Joshua said he was his friend.

((OOC: Hee, post 777!))

Katalina, abruptly feeling too exposed on the rock, shifted uncomfortably. She wasn't going down until she was sure the man was either dead or on shore, but it was...cold, up in the air.
She glanced up at the shoreline, where Joshua and Lucian were. A little part of her wondered if Joshua would think of her differently now. Lucian wouldn't - he knew what it took to survive. But Joshua was...sheltered, in a way.

When he suddenly couldn't hear any sound, Joshua looked up. He made a face as he watched the ship sink. Though, he couldn't blame the captain for wanting to get closer to Katalina. She was very pretty. Joshua heaved a sigh. He didn't like killing, but if that's what it took to save the cove, then that's what need to be done. 'I'd rather human dead than her dead.' He thought fiercely. It might have seemed odd, but it was true. Still, he had to look away from the wreckage. This time it was Joshua who wascovering his face, burying it in Lucian's shoulder. He knew he'd be seeing it in his dreams for awhile to come. Joshua was thankful for Lucian's hands over his ears. It meant he couldn't hear the crew drowning out in the waters.

Katalina slipped back under the water. She looked down on the wreckage of the ship with a quiet coldness. It's over now, she told Lucian. You can tell Joshua that I think some of them could swim.

It was true. Searching the wreckage, she found a few less than usual on a boat that size - that meant that some of them had gotten to the surface again. Which meant she had to find a way to either rid herself of the others or guide them safely to some distant shore.

And if they talked?
Well, so what? Ever since sailors had become a reality, they'd always talked. Did anyone believe them? Not one bit.

Staying under the water, she moved towards the cove. It was distant - they shouldn't be able to see it well. It didn't surprise her at all that when she turned around, most of the few surviving men were actually swimming away from the cove. Back to wherever they had come from.
As long as they kept going that way, they had nothing to fear from her.
