Lucian tilted his head to the side as he watched the people swim. He wrapped his arms around Joshua’s shoulder and rested his chin on his head. His wings came out and shielded them both. Pulling back, Lucian then tilted Joshua’s chin up so he can look at him in the eyes.

Joshua was thankful for the wings shielding him from the sight of the wreckage. When Lucian tilted his head up, Joshua's eyes were bright with unshed tears. He may have prefered human deaths than mermaid, but he still grieved. Part of the grief was knowing that he had agreed to do this. To do whatever was needed. Reaching up, he began to wipe at his eyes, trying to get rid of the tears before they fell.

Lucian leaned down and licked a tear that fell down his cheek. He wrapped his arms around Joshua’s shoulder again and pulled him to his chest. He laid his cheek on top of his head and began to hum softly. He hummed the song he usually did when his brothers were fighting against each other. He wanted to use some of his power that was dormant within him, but he forgot how to use it, it could have made things easier for Joshua.

Joshua rubbed at his eyes one more time. "I'm sorry." He murmured to Lucian. He then tightened his arms around the sea-dragon's waist. "I'm so sorry." His voice was muffled slightly. Joshua's shoulders began to shake as he tried to keep from crying.

Lucian didn’t know what to do when he seen Joshua start to cry. His heart almost leapt out of his chest. His arms tightened around Joshua and he whispered in his mind, ‘Do you want me to help them? I will do anything to stop you from crying. I don’t know why yet, but when you cry it shreds my heart.’

Joshua shook his head. 'No. I don't want to risk the cove with you and Katalina. It's better this way.' His voice sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than Lucian. 'I don't want you exposed. It's better this way. It really is.' Joshua shook his head again. 'I'll be fine. I'm not hurt or anything.' Grief layered his mental voice.

Lucian sighed and looked back at the water. He didn’t know what to do and it was beginning to frustrate him even more. ‘How did you come across us sea creatures?’ Lucian asked him a question to get Joshua’s mind off the men in the water.

In answer to the question, Joshua automatically glanced out to the cove. It took a second for him to register what he was seeing. 'Right. Your wings.' He took a deep, shuddering breath and tried to steady his emotions. 'I found Katalina when I was exploring the reefs. I don't know who was more startled, me or her.' He tried to smile. Joshua knew he was upsetting Lucian and he didn't want that. 'After I managed to convince her that I wouldn't hurt her, we became friends.'

Katalina dropped in, mentally, to inform Joshua, Don't worry about them. I'm marshalling them over that way. They'll be fine. 'That way' was a small island of sand, with a rocky face behind it. They'd find shelter there until the next boat passed. She dropped out of the conversation again, too intent on making a group of panicky, desperate sailors go where she wanted to spend time chatting.

Joshua was able to muster a real smile, however small, at the news. 'Thank you Katalina.' His voice was grateful. She was helping them. That was all that mattered. He didn't really care how or even less as to why, but she was. Joshua gave a small sigh. They would not all die. The depression threatening to envelope him, pulled back some.

It's no problem, said Katalina briefly. Then her voice softened. I could kill while they were a threat to me and mine, Joshua. I don't destroy the helpless. Seeing that the last of the men was on the sandy little isle she had designated as their temporary place, she swam away, headed back to the beach where she had left Lucian and Joshua.

(((Don't you think it is wierd that they didn't swim to the beach? It was closer to them. D: Sorry, I'm just a knack for details... If I am correct, this beach as civilization on it.)))

SilentShadowDreamer Staying under the water, she moved towards the cove. It was distant - they shouldn't be able to see it well. It didn't surprise her at all that when she turned around, most of the few surviving men were actually swimming away from the cove. Back to wherever they had come from. ((That is why they didn't swim towards this beach. And on this beach, all the cities are farther inland.))

((OOC: Well, I was figuring that A: You were in the air, and B: Sea dragons have better vision than humans. As to Joshua - no, I can't really explain that. But if we're RPing a world where mermaids exist, I think it's pretty fricking plausible that we can have a couple of shocked, scared guys swim towards the shore they came from, as opposed to the one they were going to when this mermaid suddenly made them shipwreck.))
