Lucian looked away, rubbing his arm as he tried to explain. ‘Marking, as in trying to get my scent on you, this will have two effects.’ Looking down, embarrassed and as if he was just scolded. ‘This will let other sea creatures know that you are to be trusted…also that if someone choose to harm you…they will have to face me.’ Lucian for some unknown reason didn’t like the idea of Joshua becoming mad at him. He could sense the confusion as well as the anger.

Joshua's emotions began to calm, with the anger receding. 'So...This would make it easier to approach others?' He liked the idea of not being treated with suspicion because of his species. 'But why would you so much about my health? I only recently met you.'

Lucian looked away, not caring to answer that question regarding why Lucian did it. He looked up then flew to a branch a sat down on it, looking down at Joshua. Swinging his feet around, he began to sing a lullaby. ‘Don’t you want to meet others?’ was all he asked.

'I do want to meet the others.' Joshua's thoughts were ecstatic. He would be able to meet more seafolk. His joy was such that Lucian had almost entirely distracted him from the fact that the other question hadn't been answered. A small part of his mind stored the question away for later. 'That's a really pretty song. Where did you learn it?' Joshua looked up at Lucian. 'And do you have to sit up there? I'm gonna break my neck trying to look at you.'

Lucian’s smile faded as he stopped singing. The song was his past…his never forgetful past. He didn’t even realize he was singing until Joshua mentioned it. Lucian jumped down from the tree and grabbed Joshua’s hand, cheerfully he said, ‘Let’s go back into the water…the mermaid is waiting for us.’ He started to tug Joshua back towards the water. “Water come come…”

Joshua stumbled after Lucian, towards the water. He wondered what had cause the abrupt change in Lucian. Still, he shrugged and went along with the sea-dragon. Lucian would tell him eventually, if he wanted to. 'Katalina?' He called mentally, hoping she wasn't blocking others out right now. 'We're coming back to the water.' Joshua suddenly remembered that his gear was still at camp. He tugged his hand free from Lucian's grip. 'Be right back.' He told the sea-dragon and dashed towards his camp.

Lucian sighed in relief that Joshua didn’t catch on. He waited patiently for Joshua to return, looking around to see if the mermaid was near. Lucian tried to push away his past and smile big for Joshua, try to keep his positive playful attitude.

Joshua pushed through the foliage around his camp. Quickly, he found his discarded gear. Throwing the tank on his back, he realized something else was missing. 'My knife.' He stifled a giggle at the thought of what had happened to it. Quickly he snagged a new one from his spares. Sheathing it, Joshua grabbed the rest of his scuba gear. He ran back to Lucian, panting slightly. "Okay. Let's go!" He waded out into the water, then put on his mask. Joshua ducked under the water and slipped his flippers on. 'All ready!' He told Lucian, smiling with joy at being back in the water.

((OOC: I sincerely apologize for the long absence.))
I know, Katalina replied airily. I can hear you from here, you know. Seeing that Lucian was looking for her, she surfaced and waved at him, making sure he could see her. Over here, she informed him. She had been listening to their conversation with amusement for a long time. As to the marking, she told Joshua, I have a faint suspicion it's because Lucian likes you and wants to make sure none of our kind hurt you. I like you too. Between us, you're all set.

((It's okay.))
Joshua paused in putting on his second flipper. 'Really now?' He asked Katalina. He didn't really know what to make of that. A sea-dragon marking his was just slightly beyond his ideas of normal. 'Course, those ideas were thrown out the window when I met Katalina.' He shrugged and decided to not worry about it. Lucian's feelings were his own. Besides, it meant he got to spend more time with the pair. 'Glad to know I'm safe in the sea.' He told both of them, finishing the straps on the flipper. Joshua kicked out to deeper water where Katalina was floating.

Oh, of course, said Katalina agreeably, swimming forwards to meet him. Once he was within hearing range, she returned to her usual methods of communication - speaking. Her vision had been beginning to dull, a sure sign that she was overusing her telepathic power. "If we didn't like you, we'd hide from you. As long as you're within our sphere, Joshua, you'll be safer than any other human," she assured him with a cheerful nod to Lucian.

"Are all seafolk loners? Like you two?" Joshua gestured at Lucian and Katalina. "Or do many live in groups?" He wanted to find out more about the side of the sea he'd never really known. "I wonder how many of the old tails are true...." He wondered idly. Katalina sinking the ship-- Joshua broke off that train of thought. He was not going to be depressed again. The feeling of the water helped fend it off. 'I bet the stories are more true than any human knows.' A thought occurred to Joshua. He would be one of the very few to ever learn about the 'mythical' sea world.

"Well, what do you think?" asked Katalina, highly entertained. "Is it more likely that we're weird, or that the groups are weird?" Growing serious, she said, "Most merfolk live in groups - or pods, if you prefer. Like dolphins. I'm just the...odd dolphin out, I suppose. I don't know much about the grouping habits of sea dragons, though." As to the ancient tales, she couldn't tell him. She didn't know.

Lucian stood there for awhile then decided to dive back into the water. Right when he dove, two seconds later he appeared next to them in his half form, a grin on his face. He then began to float on his back, listening to them talk. “Lucian really isn’t exactly a sea dragon…” he kicked his feet to move around in circles.

"Hmm?" Joshua's face showed the curiosity sparked by Lucian's comment. "Not a sea-dragon? But I thought you said you were?" Curiosity turned to confusion as he tried to figure out what Lucian really was. "I'm am so confused now!" He grabbed his head in playful confusion.
