Chase Henrick ~ Ravenclaw ::: First Year ~ Chase's opportunity at studying seemed to have slithered away when he wasn't looking. He nodded at Shina, agreeing with her that the weather was fine. But then again, if he failed, he couldn't blame it on something else. Like the wind making it hard to control the broom or something like that.
"Feel free to watch," he said.
((First years are allowed to try out, says the announcement, though upperclassmen get priority.)) "The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being. His heart withers if it does not answer another heart. His mind shrinks away if he hears only the echoes of his own thoughts and finds no other inspiration." - Pearl S. Buck

With a timid step and a tired smile, Tristain worked her way across the quidditch pitch, her Nimbus 3000 held politely in her tender hands.
She had spent a good portion of the summer practicing with Jayden and his brother, both of whom had already manage to make their respective house teams. She had learned a lot from their advice, and hoped that today would be her time to shine.
She so desperately wanted to make the team, and as a result make her dad proud, and show her brother that she was not as fragile, nor as modest as he always assumed her to be. But perhaps her most secretive intent was her desire for Jayden to like her. She knew better than anyone how much he loved the game, and she only hoped that her interest in the sport would increase his interest in her.
As she approached the small gathering of students, she flashed them all a reserved, but friendly smile before looking expectantly at the team captain."Love to faults is always blind, always is to joy inclined. Lawless, winged, and unconfined, and breaks all chains from every mind."- William Shakespeare

Cathryn Rose O'Malley 13 Years Old┽Third Year┽Ravenclaw┽Chaser┽Single ▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ In reply to the Chase's question, Cat said,"Well, I don't need to try out. Once on the team, you are on the team unless you quit, and there's no other position I want. I'm Cat by the way." With those words, she stuck her hand out to the First Year. "What are you trying out for?" However, she was interrupted by the arrival of another boy, Chase Balford, who winked at her. Her heart gave a flutter as the handsome Fifth Year called her beautiful. "Hello, Chase!" She said to him, mentally scolding herself for being taken in so easily with his charming manner. "I wasn't offering help for you... However, I'll give you a massage if you give me one!" She liked to joke around, particularly with handsome boys... But then, another Ravenclaw joined the group, Shina, if Cathryn remembered right. "Hello, Sina! It is indeed beautiful. Are you trying out?" ▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄ ╔══════════════╗ Injuries/Illnesses: ------ Out of character: I appologize for my poor posting today. Faces she did not recognize were present as well, and a flash of excitement ran through her at the idea of eager participants to try out for her Houses' empty positions on the sports team. Her own borrowed broom (making mentally that it was high time she bought herself one of her own) clamped securely in her grip as she surveyed the crowd she and the youngest Raines now approached. The expected face of Woil stood now-quiet-so-tall but ready, O'Malley was eagerly speaking to everyone as ever, Chase stood ready as well and - to Phi's surprise - Shina and another slightly familiar First Year stood on the outskirts of the tight circle of the Team. Phi flashed a smile to Shina before nodding to the other First Year, hoping to pass forth a confidence. Turning then to Tristain, knowing how important the try outs were for the sweet girl. She banked the Second Year's side and brushed her arm with the knuckles of her broom-holding hand. Smiling grandly with her eyes and offering each sentiment of reassurance. You will do well, Tristain.
Returning her gaze then to Woil, she offered a smile welcome before straightening out her uniform awaiting practice.╚══════════════════╝

Chase Henrick ~ Ravenclaw ::: First Year ~ "I see," Chase said. He really thought about which positions were available to him. The try outs could suddenly get really competitive, considering how there's so many people here. He wasn't quite confident with his beginner flying skills, but from his classes, it seemed that he got quite the hang of it. A pure miracle.
"I'm interested in the Keeper's position," he finally said. Or maybe he should try out for the Chaser's position. "Chase the Chaser". Ha ha. Shina saw Phinelia's smile, and flashed her own in return. Somehow, she felt a bit more bold. "I'm going to try for Chaser," she suddenly announced. She had been trying to decide if she was going to try out or not, but she was here, and Phinelia seemed happy to see her here, and why shouldn't she try out? The worst that could happen would be that she didn't make the team. Well, no actually. The worst that could happen would be not making the team because a bludger broke her arm or somesuch. But this was a magic school, that wouldn't take long to fix. So really, she had nothing to lose. ((OOC: ... ))

"We really need a Chaser." Phi said with a nod, smile reassuring that the girl would be welcomed on the team if she had the skill. "And a Keeper," she said, turning her head then to the younger Chase, having heard him make the light decision. Phi's fingers tingling with the eagerness to throw herself back in the air where she had practically resided with Tristain and all the Raines' guests throughout the summer. Returning to the familiar atmosphere of the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team had her forcing to keep still against the urge to ease from one foot to the other in anxiety to feel the rush of the air and the connection of her Beater's bat once more.╚══════════════════╝

Chuckling low, like firewhiskey crackling over ice, instantly consuming it, Chase nodded appreciatively at Cat. He liked a girl that shared his humor and flirtatious behavior. And she wasn’t that much younger than him, Hildy’s year if he was remembering correctly. Belle’s year. Well Belle had a boyfriend and even if she didn’t it wouldn’t be wise to pull his usual date and release on his cousin’s best friend. So he was a free agent. He had been trying to get Sato to agree to go to dinner with him, but it seemed that his fellow Prefect disapproved of his ‘friendly’ ways.
But, it seemed like Cat enjoyed his candor. Perhaps the young redhead was just what he was looking for as he was finally free to interact with others at school again. ”I don’t know. My massages are pretty good. You will have to do more than just reciprocate. I’m thinking that you’d have to let me take you out to dinner before I go giving out my expert massages.”
Over hearing one of the first years mention that he was going out for Seeker too, Chase turned slightly. ”Ah, two Chase’s going out for the same position. Well, best of luck kid.” Reaching out he shook the young boy’s hand. Then leaning in he ‘whispered’ loud enough for the others to hear as well, so the boy would know that he was joking, ”And since I’m your Prefect I can give you detention for the rest of the year if you beat me out for the job.” He held a face of mock seriousness for a second and then leaned back laughing and punched the boy’s shoulder.
”Just fooling you. Besides,” he smirked and turned to spread his arms as he walked toward Cat and Phi, who had just joined them, stopping a few feet away, gesturing grandly to them, “ANY position on the team is fantastic as long as it means playing alongside Ravenclaw’s two lovely redheads.”
A permanent smile was etched into his lips as his face turned to look up at the sky. He couldn’t wait to get on his broom and in the air. There was plenty to interest him here, but he was psyched for the tryouts and ready to show what years of Advanced Flying had taught him.

Chase Henrick ~ Ravenclaw ::: First Year ~ "You're going for Keeper's position too?" Chase asked. Suddenly, he felt like his chances of making the team was diminishing by the second. There was no way he could beat an upperclassmen way more in shape than he was. He carefully weighed his options: Go against a student twice his size or walk away from the try out. Though the upperclassmen's threat only fired up his motivation.
"Abusing your powers. How delightful to find out that one of the few students in authority is trying to gain an unfair advantage in quidditch," he stated with a hint of sarcasm. Even if Chase Balford made it pretty obvious that it was a joke, it went right over his head. "The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being. His heart withers if it does not answer another heart. His mind shrinks away if he hears only the echoes of his own thoughts and finds no other inspiration." - Pearl S. Buck

Her features then immediately attempted to form mock seriousness as she playfully glared at his hand around her - but the edges of her lips twitching involuntarily before she giggled once more. Offering a warm smile to the younger Chase to reassure him no one meant him any verbal harm or threat - only welcome jokes and kindnesses. "You should be ashamed of yourself, Chase." she said to the prefect, following with the First Year's sarcasm without realizing he had not touched on the joke.╚══════════════════╝

Chase Henrick ~ Ravenclaw ::: First Year ~ Suddenly, the fact that what Chase Balford said was a joke hit him like a bullet train at full speed. Addressing to no one in particular, he asked, "He was joking, wasn't he?" Chase blushed, slightly embarrassed as his obliviousness. "Sorry," he said. If one were to ask Chase, he had no faults whatsoever. However, if an objective outside source were to critique the young man, it could be said that perhaps he was a little too sure of his charm, his lovableness and the belief that he was incredibly funny. He figured that Chase was just continuing on with the joke, like Phi was. He just chuckled at the younger Chase’s comment, believing that they were sharing a growing comraderie.
Phi looked adorable in her mock disgust of him. Reaching out he captured her chin gently between his thumb and forefinger, tutting in mock disappointment and looking somewhat like a nanny chastising a naughty child. ”Oh Phi, darling, I’m so disappointed. Don’t you know yet that I have no shame?” Cuffing her chin lightly with his forefinger as he released it, Chase felt quite at ease. This was his element. He was a people person. He liked banter, just simple companionship. The tragedy that had befallen his family hadn’t change his outlook on the world. Until the day it stopped spinning, he planning on remaining the same old Chase. And love and laughter were his two favorite things.
When the younger man apologized, Chase stared at him as he added up the cumulated misreadings of emotions and his head threw back as he laughed heartily, realizing that he was just as guilty as the kid. “Ah,” he sighed as he caught his breath and his laughter faded, ”No worries, kid. I’d never give out detention for Quidditch disagreements. Just for not laughing at my jokes. Seriously,” his eyes sparkling with good humor and anything but seriousness, ”there are a set of Old Filch’s thumb chains in the dungeons you’re your name on them.”

Chase Henrick ~ Ravenclaw ::: First Year ~ Chase laughed nervously, even though he knew the upperclassmen was joking. He had to be more careful in the future to unsure no misunderstandings. Or else Chase will have to pay. He didn't want to get caught in another problem.
"So... when are tryouts starting?" he asked, trying to change the subject. "The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being. As if Tristain wasn't excited enough, Phi's reassurance seemed to illuminate her delicate features even more so, boosting her confidence and even making her a bit impatient for try-outs to begin.
While Phi dove into conversation with those around her, the second year's attention was drawn to the old, battered broom that the redhead held in her hands. Of course not everyone's father could buy their daughter a brand new broom, but Tristain knew better than most. Phi, being adopted by muggles, would have little reason to expect a magical gift from them, which would leave her to do the shopping herself.
The thought of Phi having to buy her own broom sat uncomfortably with Tristain. She was a great girl, a wonderful quidditch player, and an even better friend; she deserved the gift of a broom, and that was exactly what she was going to give her.
As she made a mental note to bring Colton in on the scheme—perhaps they could make a quick trip down to Hogsmeade this weekend—Trissy began to listen in on the swirl of conversation that seemed to be all around her now."Love to faults is always blind, always is to joy inclined. Lawless, winged, and unconfined, and breaks all chains from every mind."- William Shakespeare
