Rider Vosin's Personality

Vosin has always been a determined girl and a goal getter. You don't get if you don't try hard. She sets her goals, sometimes a bit too high, then strives to achieve them. Vosin may have a difficulty in admitting some goal is too hard for her to reach. She is also prone to having "eyes bigger than her stomach", and it often results with her biting off more than she can chew. Sometimes she needs to be told she's taken on more than she can handle alone. Another habit that can land her in the fires is her tendency to "leap before she looks". When a simple problem may really be complex, she may not realize it. Through it all though her twin is there to watch her back and pull her out of the fires when the situation needs it.

She carries a high sense of responsibility to her family and Weyr. Vosin will often go above and beyond the call of duty. If something needs to be done, she will go the extra mile to see that it is accomplished. She will willingly put in extra hours as needed. Sometimes she may forget others don't feel this way and commandeer someone to help her finish the task. Although she feels that structure is important in life, it’s good to be able to relax a little. She can get a bit wild or rowdy in her free time. Vosin isn't one to settle down happily with a single man. She can be as finicky as a gold in Flight. She has her favorites, but they are subject to change on a sudden whim. Over all she tries to see the best in people in what they can do and who they are.

Vosin can get carried away or be controlled by her emotions or if she becomes super excited about something. She has plenty of enthusiasm during these times, but perhaps not a lot of sense. This tends to lead her toward rushing into things a bit unprepared. As usual its her twin who comes to her rescue. Vosin has learned to make quick decisions; these may sometimes be hasty decisions. She may reach a decision before she has gained all the necessary information. One of these is her belief that she feels she doesn't understand non-weyrfolk. She feels awkward around them, and tends to cultivate an aloof image around them. The one person Vosin will always listen to and hear another side is Vesin. She is more likely to concede or make a compromise if the request comes from her twin. She values her siblings dearly.

Rider Vosin's History

She was born at Benden Weyr with her identical twin sister, Vesin. Her parents were V'ron of Brown Blakarth and Messelin of Green Mumunyeth. Messelin was Searched for a Queen Egg, but ended up Impressing to a green instead. Vosin and Vesin got into the normal amount of trouble for a couple of girls in the Weyr. When they were 3 their first brother was born. A Turn later and the twins had a second baby brother. The girls were very happy to have another sibling to love and show around.

Vosin’s parents were not allowed to really rise in rank under the traditional views due to the color they rode; though V’ron had slightly more opportunities than Messelin. This was why when they had the opportunity, they left the Weyr and took their children and settled near Telgar Hold. The pair preformed basic guard duties, or to those who could afford to pay for their services instant transportation for people or goods. The girls were 10 Turns old when they moved. It was a novel experience for the twins, and proved them new places to see and people to meet. While she found her new life interesting, Vosin thought the Weyr would always be cooler.

The 15 Turn old twins got it into their heads that they wanted to see the world. Some say the whole idea was Vosin's. To accomplish this, they stowed away on a trader caravan. They didn't get far before discovery, however, and were returned promptly. They had to endure extra chores for months and even after their punishment ended the threat not being able to leave the house meant they chose their battles wisely for some time after.

When their parents spoke of their lives before the twins, their standing and impression tales were their favorites. They always asked to hear them time after time, no matter how often they got told. Vosin dreamed of one day riding a dragon of her own. After living in Benden Weyr for the first part of their lives, and hearing their parent's stories after they moved to Telgar, the twins urged their parents to take them back to a weyr for them to stand. They were certainly old enough. For their 16th birthing day, the couple took their family to a weyr to once again join the dragonriding ranks, somewhere they wouldn't be as biased against the color of their dragons: Western Weyr.

Vosin was thrilled to be returning to a Weyr and really looked forward to it. The twins had a good relationship with their parents and their father supported them during their candidacy. The twins settled into candidacy and three turns later Vesin impressed brown Kelilayth. While Vosin was excited for her twin, she was disappointed that she didn't impress too. She did her best to put on a brave face for her twin in her moment of triumph.

Five months later, an unaffiliated queen had decided to use Western as her clutching ground. Vosin was hopeful that this time she might Impress and join her twin as a dragonrider. She stood on the hot sands as one by one the eggs cracked and paired off. Vosin impressed to gold Killakeeth. She was a dragonrider! Like her parents. Like her twin. This was where she was always meant to be.

The young pair grew quickly. When it came time to choose their ranks, Vosin knew she wasn't interested in the typical weyrwoman position. And Killakeeth was not an average gold. She liked seeing new places and the pair chose to become searchriders. Life seemed blissful for the little family. It was not going to last.

When she was 23 Turns, Thread fell. Devastation struck the family hard as first Messelin then V'ron fell to Thread in the first few waves. It was incredibly hard loosing both of her parents so close together, but as the oldest, Vosin felt she had to be strong for her siblings. Western already felt like home, so the family stayed.

Rider Vosin's Dragon

Name: Killakeeth

Age: 8 Turns

Color: Gold
Size: 100' (50')

Physical Description: A burnished gold gold with a pale underbelly and head. Tends to run on the heavier side.
User Image
Adult
Look at the muscles on this one, myVosin! Come, join your Killakeeth and introduce us to these lovely boys.

Personality:
A hedonist through and through, the closest thing to ambition Killakeeth has is a whole-hearted dedication to enjoying herself. While others waste their time pursuing power, glory, or lofty ideals, she cares only for pleasure, a pursuit she could easily follow to her own ruination if her rider does not find a way to hold her in check. Being a dragon, she may have to find some creative ways to indulge herself, but rest assured that she will find them. The most obvious and readily-available indulgence, food, is a great weakness for her, and if allowed to, she will spend an inordinate amount of time choosing what she deems to be the finest beasts to dine on. She will also eat more than her share if given even half a chance, and as a result is likely to carry extra weight throughout her life. Threatening her with that possibility - or insulting her when it becomes a reality - will have little to no effect, however. Why should she care what you think? It's her choice, her life, and she's going to enjoy the hell out of it. You should give it a try sometime. It's awesome.

This is one gold who is envious of greens, and for one reason only: their frequent Flights. Her biology dictates that she will Rise only once a turn at the very most, whereas they get to enjoy themselves several times a turn. It's simply not fair! Any green friend of hers will be pressed for details after every Flight, and she will be quite disappointed if they choose not to share. In an effort to make up for her own limited 'action,' Killakeeth will even pry into - and encourage and meddle with - her rider's love life. As if that weren't enough of a headache, once she grasps the concept of currency, she may even attempt to gamble her rider's marks, most likely in the form of betting, whether it's with another dragon willing to make promises their rider will have to keep, or directly with humans. Killakeeth is not shy in the least, and does not hesitate to bespeak others if she thinks it will lead to anything enjoyable. Human games of chance will fascinate her, too, and if Hers is the sort to play them, she will observe closely and attempt to learn. With time, she might become passable at them and try to orchestrate games with other dragons with their riders acting as proxies.

It should come as no surprise that, as a lover of all things pleasurable, Killakeeth is quite social, and usually great fun to be around, but she has no time or patience for sticks in the mud. Overly serious, rule-abiding, or grouchy types are not welcome to her party! No matter the personality type, forming lasting friendships may be difficult for her, as her priority will always be herself and her own gratification. All that being said, she isn't sunshine and rainbows and oblivious cheerfulness; she is an intense dragon, and under all that carousing there lies a darker edge to her character. The 'tame' entertainments are not always sufficient, and not all of her pleasures are light-hearted: she can enjoy a fight as much as a Flight, and can find a certain vindictive amusement in the suffering of others. Her current friends will usually not be subjected to this, but anyone else is fair game, especially her enemies.

Killakeeth is intelligent but borderline self-destructive, aware of her faults but dangerously accepting of them. She always runs hot, never cold, and her temper is unpredictable. If she loses a game or is denied something she wants, she may simply pout, or perhaps throw a little tantrum, or - if you're very unlucky - fly into a terrible rage. Playing with Killakeeth is its own game of risk, and the rules are always subject to change.

User ImageInspired by the Montpelier Hell Fire Club.

The building now known as the Hell Fire Club was a hunting lodge originally built atop the hill by William Conolly, the speaker of the Irish House of Commons, sometime around 1725. Toward the beginning of the lodge’s construction, workers came across an ancient grave passage and cairn, which would aid substantially in Mount Pelier’s construction–and according to some, contribute to its demise. Eager to "recycle" these newly-found resources, workers took a large number of the cairn’s stones and re-implemented them in the lodge. Many mark the cairn’s destruction as the beginning of Mount Pelier’s paranormal history, as shortly after the lodge’s completion, its slate roof was blown clean off. Some say it was simply a storm’s doing; others speculate that the devil tore it off in a moment of pure rage. Conolly had the roof rebuilt with arched stones, again using ones from the ancient cairn. That rebuilt roof continues to stand to this day, as do the tales of the many perceived 'supernatural' events that have occurred on the hill.

William Conolly died in 1729, and in the coming years his family would lend the lodge for use to the Hell Fire Club. With roots in the 18th century, the Hell Fire Club consisted of and was founded by self-described "persons of quality," many of whom were involved with politics or high culture. Feeling safe and sound among other so-called sophisticates, rumor has it that it was here where Ireland’s elites gathered to engage in some of the most immoral and degenerative acts known to man. The club’s motto was "Fais ce que tu voudras," or "Do what thou wilt." According to persistent rumors, the Club lived up to its motto with widespread drunkenness, indiscriminate orgies, black masses, devil worship, sacrifices, and murder.

One popular tale tells of a stranger who arrived at the club on a stormy night. Invited in, he joined the members in a card game. One player dropped his card on the floor and when he bent under the table to retrieve it noticed that the stranger had cloven hooves. The visitor then disappeared in a ball of flame

At some point during this period, supposedly following a black mass, the lodge caught fire and several members were killed, prompting the club to change locations. Hell Fire’s new home was the Killakee Steward's House, a short distance from Montpelier Hill. By this point, the club’s activities had sharply declined; that is, until 1771 when Thomas "Buck" Whaley revived the group. In its revitalized form, Hell Fire became "The Holy Fathers," and it thrived for another 30 years. One of the worst legends from this period involves the kidnapping, murder, and then consumption of a local farmer’s daughter. Like the lodge, the Steward's House is also believed to be haunted, specifically by an immense black cat with burning eyes, known as the Black Cat of Killakee. This spirit is thought to have originated from one of two incidents that occurred in the days of the Hell Fire Club: one story tells of a priest who exorcised the cat’s soul during a ritualistic sacrifice; the other is of Hell Fire members dousing a helpless cat in whiskey and setting it on fire.

In the 1960s, workers renovating a nearby derelict house started to experience unusual events, including the appearance of the black cat in question. Artist Tom McAssey, who was overseeing the Steward's House's renovation into an art house, said that a locked door swung open, revealing a hideous black cat with blazing red eyes. He would later paint a portrait of that apparition, which would hang above the dining table in the Stewards House for several years.

Why Me?
Isn't it obvious? Vosin is the only one here who knows how to have a good time, and nothing is more important to this gold. Whereas Killakeeth is all pleasure and no business, however, Vosin realizes that compromise is necessary, and may be able to rein in her dragon and impart a desperately-needed sense of structure. This will not be an easy task, however, and Killakeeth is likely to take on the roll of devil on Vosin's shoulder, urging her to let loose and indulge more: you know you want to.

Both are prone to getting carried away, so when they get swept up by emotion or passion, watch out!

Per a crab: "Killakeeth sounds like coy laughter behind the fan, with the rustle of sheets. Her voice has the feel of a hand on the small of your back, a finger beneath your chin to make you look upward. She leave the taste of smoke in your mouth, the scent of the night and of want in your thoughts."

Omurntas' Personality

- Masculine: Omurntas is a man and he’s not shy about showing it. Particularly likes to participate in feats of strength like arm wrestling, or log throwing, or anything else someone can think of.

- Direct: He makes an excellent supervisor and ensures everyone has enough work to do without feeling overwhelmed. Omurntas also has a knack for instructing others.

- Tractable: When not roused to temper, he is quite docile. He can be easily persuaded to do things or to go along with a particular scheme. Omurntas, most of the time, is easy to work with.

- Superstitious: He’s developed a few superstitions in his turns as a farm worker. One is that he must paint a specific glowing fungus on the trees in his orchard to keep the felines away.

- Prejudiced: Omurntas has a deep abiding prejudice against felines and their trainers. He doesn’t believe the beasts can ever be truly tamed. Pirates he also doesn't trust any further than he can throw them.

- Irascible: Typically a mellow guy, there’s a few things that will ignite his quick temper. First and foremost, will be if he sees a feline among humans and the other are pirates or thieves. Either one of these rapidly provokes his anger and outbursts of temper. He’s prone to using his fists when his temper gets the better of him.

- Stern: He is very strict in the care of his orchard plants. Everything will be done by his rules, his way, or you can find yourself another job somewhere else.

Omurntas' History

Omurntas was born the youngest of 5 siblings on the second largest island of Black Sand Hold to a pair of fishermen. He has three sisters and a brother, his brother was second born. Being the youngest, Omurntas got into plenty of trouble with his siblings as he grew; particularly with his three sisters. While he was young, cretchworkers would take the youngest children out to play on the black sand beaches while his parents and two oldest siblings worked on the boats.

As he grew, he wasn’t interested in fishing or boats. Instead his interest lay in the sand, or more in the fertile dirt. He started a tiny garden at the side of his family’s home trying to grow anything he could get his hands on. At first it was mainly just weeds that grew. As he got older more and better plants survived. Eventually it became a beautiful plot.

So when he asked his father’s permission to apprentice as a fruit gatherer, he readily got his father’s blessing. One of his sisters and his older brother followed their parent’s footsteps as fishermen. His youngest sister became a weaver and the other became a cretchworker. Omurntas has five nephews and one niece between his three eldest siblings, his youngest sister doesn’t have any children yet as she focuses mostly on her weaving.

He began his apprenticeship at 11 Turns and learned quickly. Omurntas loved working with the plants and carry for them as they blossomed and then fruited. He loved helping pick the fruits to sell to the main island for the tourists and those sold as export to the main lands.

When he was 18 Turns, he suffered terrible wounds when he helped defend the orchard against a vicious feline invasion. Omurntas spent nearly a Turn healing and in physical therapy. He has scars all along his left side, starting at his cheek and down his jaw, his left shoulder and side of his chest, and left thigh. On occasion he still walks with a slight limp. He was pleased to make journeyman at 20 Turns.

Shortly after he became a journeyman, he started experimenting with fruit fermentation on the side despite his masters disapproving. He’ll sell some for a price. Omurntas has his eye on a young lady. He’s been courting her for nearly two Turns now. Nearly a Turn before Thread began to fall, Omurntas met a greenrider and her dragon when he helped defend the island against rider pirates.
