Wanna Get to Know Me?
Depsite being well into his middle-age years, R'mis will always be a young man at heart. He's spirited and determined, ready to jump into any call for action or adventure and always up for some good old mischevious fun. Once you get past his gruff exterior he's just an overgrown child waiting for his next chance to go and play. Of course just like a child he's quick to action, frequently failing to think things through before jumping the gun. He's impulsive and short-sighted, and that frequently gets him into trouble that he struggles to get himself out of.
He's also quick to anger, often flying off the handle over small things. If only he could stop and take a breath to level his hot head. He's quickly bothered by things not being done how or when they should, or by people who can't just say what they mean and be clear. Which leads to him being often very abrasive, as he doesn't believe that there's a place for sugar coating when thread may fall. Better to be honest and to the point than be careful of someones potentially thin skin. He's honest though, to a fault, as there should never be a reason to lie. It leads to distrust which leads to death when you must be able to trust the person flying wing to wing with you with your life.
He's very astute, using his observations of the world around him to shape his decisions and judgements of the world around him. That candidate over there? She's obsessed with her appearance, to the point that she often shirks her duties and pushes her disliked chores onto younger candidates who are easily pushed around. She might make a good goldrider, but she should certainly be watched while they are weyrlings. He knows who to trust and with what, the best people to go to if you want something done, and who to entrust secrets to.

Are you sure? It's been a long story
R'mis was born in Keroon Hold to a family of beastcrafters who specialized in raising runnerbeasts. He was always expected to follow suite, but he always had other plans. Runnerbeasts were great and all, but he wanted to see the world and make a name for himself, and no one can do that covered in dirt and feces. For as far back as he can remember R'mis longed for open spaces for him to just stretch his legs and run until he collapsed. He was always sneaking off and shirking his duties and responsibilities in favor of seeing how far he could get before someone even noticed he was gone. It wasn't long before his father got sick of pointlessly arguing with the boy and gave up on him. While he didn't disown the boy, he refused to ever speak with him again, leaving his care and education to R'mis' mother.
At 10 turns of age [and after two years of desperate begging] his mother relented and allowed him to apprentice at the Runner Hall in Keroon. He would prove his worth he promised, and walk the tables by age 20 or he would give up and return to his family and take up the family craft. He kept his promise, working hard and running harder and by age 18 he walked the tables. Although his father and brothers chose not to come, his mother was thrilled for her son and spent the following weeks showering R'mis with all the tiny trinkets she could manage.
With his newfound freedom as a Journeyman came new opportunities. Carrying messages with much heavier importance to even more important places and people. On more than one occasion he found himself carrying messages to High Reaches Weyr. And with that under his belt came the teenage tradition of bragging and boasting and making himself so much more important than he really was. It wasn't long before he found his way into the beds of multiple partners, each and every one enamored with his [much embellished] importance. Perhaps he's left a trail of children he doesn't know about, but that never occurred to him, either at the time or even now.
At 26 turns he carried a message to High Reaches Weyr, congratulating the Weyrwoman on Zamiath's latest successful clutch. While waiting for the reply [and fishing about for any other letters to run] he met a pretty young kitchen drudge who he just couldn't resist. Everything about her made the young man's head spin and he couldn't resist spending his nights with her. Perhaps it was this whirlwind passion that kept him dragging his feet for that one extra night. If it weren't for that things for R'mis may have been vastly different.
He awoke that morning to a sound that he had often heard described, but never quite prepared himself for, the humming of hundreds of dragons preparing to welcome the newest clutch. Eagerly he piled into the stands with everyone else in the early morning drizzle. It was quite the spectacle, even if Zamiath's age showed in the colors of her latest clutch. While it produced no golds or bronzes it was R'mis' first time seeing a hatching and he found himself at the edge of his seat. So it wasn't too hard for him to fall clean out of it when the little blue hatched and made his way into the stands, deliberately ignoring those boys and girls on the sands to stomp his way past, around and even over those who stood in his way. Soon after that came the keening cry and the pressure in his head that matched the angry tone. Reralmis! That is such a mouthful. I will call you R'mis. R'MIS! MINE! Get down here and feed me. Your Houth is tired and hungry and you are in the wrong place!
Finding himself in possession of a dragon was a shock, but more shocking was the amount of responsibility and lack of freedom he had. There was nothing he wanted more than to graduate and get out of dodge. But he soon found himself saddled with even more responsibility. Though Houth had driven all thoughts of a warm bed filled with passion out of his mind, R'mis' actions had far reaching consequences. The kitchen drudge he had been so quick to bed had been quicker to hunt him down and let him know that she was with child and had no intentions of going between just to free him from the responsibility. She would have the child and she would see to it that he was a passable father if it killed her. Of course the strong-willed woman won out. And perhaps being a father wouldn't be too bad. When he had time to play parent of course.
By the time he and Houth graduated he found himself more than content to settle down at the Weyr, which the blue approved of. There would come a time that they would be needed and Houth would be ready and in his place. Which is exactly where they were when Thread returned. R'mis and Houth were quick to jump to action and encourage others to do the same. For years R'mis had sated his wanderlust with trips around, still filling his roll as runner while remaining loyal to High Reaches, albeit on dragon back now. And each time they were away Houth had the keen ability to find potential riders to bring back with them.
