stormy
Now Stormy really wished she had brought her notebook. Not one of the doodle ones but the one that had people’s faces and bits of information she had gleaned. Would she have searched in candidates, riders, weyrfolk, or other? Freezing awkwardly, she was given a few extra moments in the form of a small flight of angry firelizards swooping over the group near their eggs.
Nope. Just gonna...Edge along this way, letting the other woman become a buffer if they came this way.
“When they’re not angry,” Stormy agreed. She felt a little guilty, standing there as one of so many egg snatchers. It was different when seeing the eggs for sale, more impersonal than dodging an upset mother. Then again, was Impressing a full fledged dragon really that much different? Less handsy, unless you were a deadglow, and typically more dignified, but the act was the same in the end. A lot of things ended up just being about theft, really, when she thought about it.
Her brows knitted as she watched. “I’m sorry, I don’t remember your name,” she said, her voice naturally soft, as though they were conversing in a hall of scrolls.

The momma gold was pretty distraught, but she was no fool. When it was clear that the intruders weren’t going to leave, she called her fair off of their attempted attack and flew with them to perch in a nearby tree. They hunched there and watched with wings mantled and eyes swirling red and yellow, like so many scavenger wherries.
Below, numerous babies still scrambled about, some on a mission, some in hiding, and some just plain confused, but all of them hungry! One particularly small hatchling was just bedazzled by all the noise and movement, wandering from place to place and person to person without seeming to realize that many of them were holding exactly what it was looking for.
It all just happened to click as the baby brushed by one of the big human paws and noticed what it clutched. OH. The little flit snaked its head up to eye the meatroll from one side, then the other. Yes, this is what she was looking for. Hand it over, Syrenthie!

Adi really, really didn't need a flit.
But that didn't change that Something Was Happening, and she couldn't resist that. At first, word of a firelizard clutch - even two - was interesting-but-not-important, but once she got more details, well, it got much more exciting! A good-sized group of High Reaches folks (maybe S'deri would be there?), plus all the Westerners who were deciding to nose in, and who knew who else, it had all the makings of a good time! Add in that a few folks wanted a ride, and it got the bluerider moving.
Excited as she was, she did keep her distance for awhile, lingering near Mazamath to watch. With a whole fair of flitters all her own, she had no excuse to press in and wave a hunk of jerky at the little babies, not when there were so many eager candidates and others. She was perfectly happy to watch, a bright smile on her face, and wait for the proceedings to be over so that there could be socializing! New friiiieeends.

Lusialu
They young girl hadn't expected fire-lizards to start swooping at them. One of the little creatures actually tugged at her hair, surprising her enough to jerk back from where she had been standing. "Ouch! Let go," she tried to shoo the miscreant off, even as she knew why they were attacking. It was hard to say which of the clutches the fair had been tending, but guilt immediately gripped the young girl. Had her excitement gotten the best of her? Wild clutches were coveted, and it wasn't the first time wild hatchlings had Impressed upon a beach... But this was the first time she'd seen absolutely upset parents.
"Oh, oh, I'm sorry," she apologized quietly. She doubted the little flits would hear or care, but it wasn't solely meant for them; what of all her peers and the older riders and strangers who had come? Would she be in trouble for this? Would F'dral and T'nus find out and punish her later? Was she thoughtless? Should she retreat from the little clutch?
So far, none of the little ones had seemed to want her offered meat rolls. The girl glanced around, suddenly wishing her brother or sister or mother were present. Or even Vaali--but where her friend had gotten off to among the crowd was difficult to say.
- - - -
J'lar & blue Loreleth The beach was busier than J'lar would have expected. Dragons, riders, Candidates, and all sorts of folks were gathered, trying to entice the little creatures. J'lar was horribly unprepared, but he hadn't come here for the little firelizards. No, he came here so Loreleth might find some good company.
Thankfully, Brieteth and E'mel did arrive, and Loreleth had to keep from bugling in joy. His grey-yellow eyes turned a brighter blue-green, and he stretched out his neck in anxious greeting as the older blue bridged the distance between one another. Brieteth! The blue dragon's words were shy but full of fondness and delight. The blue dragon immediately attempted to move closer to his friend, careful of his rider (and E'mel, if he were near) but certainly craving as much physical contact as Brieteth might allow. I've missed you, too. Are you and Yours quite well? This trip isn't too much for either of you, is it? He asked worriedly, hoping that he hadn't forced them out of High Reaches.
If they couldn't make it, they wouldn't have. You're all right. J'lar encouraged.
Loreleth, of course, wouldn't be satisfied until Brieteth assured him otherwise. The young blue most certainly didn't want to be an obligation, or upset their friendship simply because he'd bee pining.
Oh! Oh, do be careful now. As soon as the little flits took to diving at the onlookers, he gave a little creel of concern, more than ready to protect his friend if the little creatures took aim at them.
J'lar wasn't worried in the least. He doubted the creatures would pick on any of the dragons, and even if they did, he'd suffered worse. An angry flit was more annoying than an actual threat. Still, the large man shifted his stance, just in case any decided to try to harass E'mel or their dragons. "Hey," he greeted the other. Leave it to J'lar--such a pro when it came to striking up conversation.

Faren had been all too excited to learn about the nests found and grinned as she gathered herself and climbed up on Zenth's bubbly, ever-impatient back. She'd been organizing the supplies brought for the trip... for probably the twelth time since arriving, between lounging naps on the sand to soak in that wonderful sun. One trip between to find some meat, and then to that fabled spot, just in time to watch a fair of wild firelizards scatter and perch in the trees to watch in annoyance.
Faren hadn't seen that behavior in the crafthall before. Most tame firelizards seemed ecstatic for their hatchlings to find a carekeep, but perhaps an interrupted hatching wasn't so fantastic for those used to doing things in the wild. As excited as she was at the prospect of a flit hatchling herself, she couldn't bypass respecting so beautiful and caring a fair as to return for their hatchlings. "Thank you, Zenth. Go and play in the water." Zenth seemed all too pleased at the prospect, and the girl took her meats and approached the fair first, giving the same kind of bow she'd given Zenth's mother. "You have lain a lovely clutch. We're only excited to see them, and we apologize for the inconvenience. May I stay?"

We're already so late though!
The green was all but roaring in his mind, avoiding it out loud for fear of startling any of the new baby fire lizards that were hatching all around as she flew in circles at Liaven's request. He'd wanted to see all the action happening from above, but Sarbath simply wanted to get down and see it up close and with all things, it was making her slightly crabby to be held back and forced to not interact. I don't really need a flit though, I just wanted to see what was happening around and see if they were treating it like a normal hatching for dragons.
Fire Lizards are not dragons, mine. Sarbath's voice cut carefully as she finally was allowed to tilt her wings and descended at last. There was nothing at all like a dragon hatching and she wouldn't have him believe that fire lizards could even come close, especially not given that he hadn't apparently been to a 'real' hatching, or so he put it. Which still had her rankled as her hatching was far and well 'real' thank you, it didn't matter where her mother had clutched her, she'd hatched and that was a hatching.
But she supposed that this could work slightly as a way to show him, so when she landed, careful to settle with no bouncing as she was apt to do with her disproportionate legs, the green allowed her rider to disembark and get closer while she slunk off to the side, not at all interested. Liaven, to his credit, simply wandered forward to watch in silence, pondering taking notes as he'd seen fire lizards and watched the fairs float around the Weyr, but never interacted with one.

karunia
There was one person actively moving towards the fighting flits, and she looked way too skinny for even that job. But with a dramatic cry, Karunia had the most intense slap fest/stare down with a blue that had been harassing what she presumed were a mother and daughter just trying to have fun at the beach before the dual nest discovery brought everything crashing down. Getting a few extra bites and scratches to protect a few people was worth it in her mind, even if it wasn’t exactly dire.
Pausing only long enough to give the pair a thumbs up and a grin, Karunia followed the creature until he hissed and took back to his family unit. “Victory!” she crowed at the fleeing creature before turning to nurse her hand. Well, the cuts could all go mingle with her old scar like chums, but ow. The meatroll went to her other hand so she could lick the excess blood off and wave her wounded one dry. It was then that she saw a young woman coax one of the more nervous firelizards out from its driftwood hiding spot, and her heart melted.
“Oh no it’s cuuuuute,” Karunia cooed, which looked at odds with the more feral blood licking. Tufts of her hair were still disheveled from the bright gold headband securing them, including some of the white bangs. “What’d you name him?”

zallea & green illyriath (not actively trying for flits, just providing interaction)
It was getting good! Zallea pouted at her partner, lounging against the green with her thick arms crossed. Maybe I should—
< Don’t throw rocks. >
You’re no fun.
Illyriath snorted.
Neither of them had come to the beach for the spoils so much as to take advantage of a little time off pretending that they were. The food meant for the “firelizards” was being gobbled down by Zallea. It was supposed to be a dine in and some entertainment, but the show got cut off midway and now it was boring again. LAME.
< Why don’t we have some fun ourselves? > Illyriath suggested, her gaze already locked on a shining hide. Knocking her life partner forward with a c**k of her hip (“Hey, ya fu—!”), the green stood and slinked towards a lone gold, proud as any creature could be. If there was any chance to position herself against a queen, she’d take it—especially when Illyriath was such an impressive specimen herself, scarred and beautiful and strong.
< My. Are flits alone enough to bring a queen? > she asked curiously. < Or are you looking for something else? >
Zallea, who didn’t at all care that she was practically scurrying after her dragon, flashed a toothy grin as she approached...wow, this woman was tiny. Zallea wasn’t a tree herself, but wow. Her first thought was about how far she could throw the rider for fun, though for once she didn’t immediately ask without thinking. Zallea did one better.
“Want an escort?” she offered, flexing. “The flits backed off for now, but I can tell they’re planning. Scheming. You should consider my services as bodyguard.”
