You know your thoughts shouldn't wander or stray.... but you look away for a moment, stretching your neck, and resettling yourself on your dragons back. Unfortunately, things happen quickly. It's not a fun wound, and boy does it ever hurt! Moderate Damage -7 HP

Olliah had been focused on the task at hand, flaming what idle strands they could, and keeping an eye above for any dragons in need. Fianth was looking more ashen than usual--but Lireloth's death had rattled her deeply, and reminded her of those she had already lost. To make matters worse, Rixth fell--and though brave Mictecath had caught him, she did worry so. Sweet Anakumath was next to catch a tumbling green, aiding Hesperith who had taken point.

So many dragons already falling, and only an hour in.

Perhaps they were distracted by their troubling thoughts; perhaps they simply hadn't been paying enough attention. But a tangle of Thread caught the queen by surprise on her tail, and she gave a snarl of surprise. A hop between helped soothe the pain, but a glance behind an Olliah could see the dark ichor stain her beloved's pale hide.

But Fianth would not complain. It was... only a little wound. It was nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Not so tired, though, thank you, that either dragon or rider were unaware of what was happening around them. Another bit of Thread had crept past the higher layers and was headed toward Pern below. Not on this pair's watch!

You want to do more. You want to be more. You're frustrated by the lack of action down in the lower wings, though you do now it's a very important role. You fidget in your riding straps. If this is the 3rd time you roll this in the game you now suffer 3 turns of Antsy You are too eager to get out there and fight. Any successful flaming down of Thread yields double XP but also causes can extra Moderate Damage -3 HP. In your hurry to flame Thread you make rookie errors, such as flying into the ash cloud, flying into your fellow wingmates space and getting burned, over-reaching and pulling a muscle, not sitting right in your straps and getting whipped around, etc.

[Once Antsy is taken, the counter for this effect is reset and you must roll this 3 more times, etc.]

Things went quiet after Fianth's initial injury. For a few minutes, they found themselves in quiet airspace, and had nothing to do but keep an eye on the skies. There was nothing to do but... focus...and think and wdait. Oh, how Fianth yearned to send love to all those above and to remind them that they were not alone. The queen would not, but her hearts ached for each of them, giving their blood, their energy, their flame to stop the great enemy.

If only she could do more to help them... but this was their place, and where they belonged. They would be there to catch and support and sweep up the threads that made it through the line.

50-55. You keep looking up, but nothing seems to be heading your way. Your neck is starting to object, but it doesn't matter. You must be ever vigilant, or so the saying goes. The Queen's Wing is an important position, but it sure can be boring... Part of you wishes you could be higher up, where all the action is. Part of you is grateful you're safer down here.

The quiet continued. Olliah yearned to see what was happening so far above, but clouds periodically hid the riders fighting so valiantly above; and in other cases, she had no choice but to right her head, and give her neck a moment's break. She held her flamethrower, shifting the weight of it against her arm, and waited...

Her vigilance paid off when she caught sight of the wriggling strand. It was thin, small, and pale--but she was able to catch it, burn it, and turn it into harmless ash.

3. Thankfully, it's not as bad as you thought. It burns and hurts, but it served more as a warning than anything else. Minor Damage -4 HP

She had only meant to shift her position. With one of her legs needing moved, and finding herself beginning to slouch, Olliah looked away to resettle within Fianth's straps. She had thought the air surrounding them was clear--but once again, a small strand came down from behind.

Fianth's bellow startled her. The pain was surprising--but quickly, hastily, Olliah thought of space not far ahead.

One, two, three--

They reappeared, and though Fianth gave a small huff of great offense, she was quick to reassure Hers. I suppose I'd rather let it land on me, than for it to fall on those below. What was a new wound? It would heal... even if her foot would smart.

It's a nasty tangle that gets over you and your dragon! Though they pop Between, it's caught part of their wingsail, and may have burrowed into their sensitive stomach and side. Better hope the cold of Between gets all of it! Major damage -10 HP

4. It's nothing but a flesh wound! In fact, your dragon was able to pop Between swiftly, so the damage is, quite frankly, nothing more than a graze. Minor Damage: -1 HP

And no matter how tired they were, both Aedeth and Niobet wanted more to do. Other golds had helped to catch collapsing dragons. Dragons that fell right out of the sky, and where had they been? Distracted? Well, that wouldn't do. That wouldn't do at all. Their time as coming.

As they returned to their wing after their ill-fated attempt to catch Nioweth - thank Faranth Anakumath had been there to catch the green safely - Sylfie and hesperith both were feeling singularly terrible about it. To add insult to injury, Hesperith's wing ached from the hit she'd taken in the process, though it didn't feel quite so bad as it had initially.
