"Well, you'd be surprised how many of your past superstitions and myths are true." Kaistern said with a small, amused smile. "Come on, we should go tell the guards to call off the search and get someone to clean the mess up..."

"Considering how many superstitions certain species have about humans, I'll assume the answer is 'not many'." Ophelia pecked Kaistern once more on the cheek before they went on to head back to the castle. "Very well." After a few moments of walking, she said with rosied cheeks, "If...if you have the time later, I'd like it if you'd meet me in our chambers."

"You know I always have time for you." Kaistern said returning the kiss on her cheek as they walked, one arm around her slender waist.

{Hmm...sure. ^.^
Also, this somehow strikes me as something that Ophelia would hide from Kaistern, considering how happy he was when he found out that she was pregnant. We could possibly extend things a little with her efforts to hide the issue and Kaistern's noticing something off - allowing him to investigate the matter until eventually a trusted servant blurts out everything or something like that.
I'm thinking of having her chase after a certain macguffin tree that the elves worship or something, possibly an apple tree believed to house important spirits or in fact the souls/essences/whatever of the dead or something. (Which is true, leading to a great if unintentional kick the dog moment on her part) Eating the apples would give the person eating them an extended lifespan or increased magical power or something. Of course, eating the apples is considered an unholy and evil act by the elves - thus permanently villifying herself in their collective eyes should she ever get caught. Whether the effects are permanent or temporary are still up for grabs, though, depending on whether or not we want her to be a 'dead woman walking' or 'saved by sacriledge'. Still pondering that part.
Unless we want an ultimate downer ending in which Ophelia and the baby dies. Or we come up with something different, either way.}

{Well, I've started to get a few more ideas to be honest.
For example, for some reason or another Kaistern could be forced off the throne - either by losing a war or some sort of coup by a lesser relative or whatever. Regardless, it will eliminate the 'royalty' factor and would open up several pathways and plots for us in the future. One of which could involve them finding each other after said coup/revolution/whatever after a long while of thinking the other dead.
(Part of me wonders how other!Kaistern would react upon discovering that he was no longer a King.)
Another being that for once Kaistern and Ophelia could 'switch places' and Ophelia end up rescuing Kaistern from certain peril for some reason or another.
Old character cameos is still a valid option.
It could be discovered that humans can in fact use magic and become witches. However, this would most often mean selling said human's soul to a powerful fey or something.
Ophelia and/or Kaistern going yandere over each other. (Double yandere reacharound all the way!~ lol)
We could put this storyline on pause and explore an alternate reality in which Ophelia's mother succeeded in uniting the humans into one nation, becoming a wicked despot and eventually interacting with the leaders of the magical people. If Kaistern's father is still King or something and we move times around, bonus points.}

((I think I am in love with that coup/revolution idea and them getting separated, thinking the other dead, etc. Kaistern losing Ophelia and the throne (read: his love and his only way of creating his ideal world) could make him basically give up on life and let his other half just take over, retreating into his own mind entirely.))

{I imagine Ophelia would somehow find a way to get back even an inch of the power she once held, perhaps creating her own mercenary guild or private army or whatever in order to try a Coup on the then-royal family of the demons. (Or alternatively some other country or something.) It could be a nice opprotunity to finally work her out of damsel status and work towards the magnificent bastardry that I originally hoped for.
I wonder...should Kaistern meet their daughter/son/probably daughter/most likely daughter before he meets Ophelia? Or should we save that for when we actually get there?
Also, shall we do this or go on with starting to show Ophelia's getting weaker from the pregnacy thing?
Or do we just sidestep that twist entirely, implying that Ophelia became some sort of humanoid abomination so that she and her child could both live?}

((Blarg, now I don't know what to do! gonk This is so nice, but having their kid involved too just seems...I dunno, it worked with the Jaquel family since Rose was more or less all growed up, but a baby/young child tagging along with the great guild/mercenary leader seems...i don't know...I kinda want to retcon the pregnancy plot out of the picture if we go through with the coup plot now. >.>))

{I was hoping it would be far enough to where the child was old enough to reason for herself, maybe adolescence or something. Or demon children could just age faster than demons but slower than humans or something. (Or better yet, the kid could age like a human, meaning that we wouldn't have to do an overly large by demon standards timeskip or something.) The kid could be mostly kept out of the picture, possibly by Ophelia's leading a double life or finding a nanny she could trust or running it from the shadows or something. I don't really want a baby or toddler involved in this either, especially since the thought just seems so...silly.
Though writing it out could work just as good. It could have foundered out or it really could have been her being sick or something. *le shrug* We can work around it somehow.}

((*rubs chin* I think this calls for....something fancy. emotion_dealwithit ))
Dearest Ophelia,
I can only assume at this point that this letter will never reach you. It's hard to imagine that the violence that overtook our castle was just a few months ago, and yet it already feels like an eternity. I never imagined a rebellion of that size had gathered, and I wish we could've been more prepared. And things had been going so well since our wedding too. Yet when the doors broke down, I failed to protect you, and I'm sorry. All I could think about was the day I killed my parents, and wonder if my thoughts formed parallel to my father's. I've been forced to live in the slums since then, and in the small hovel you called home no less. I've searched the city from top to bottom to no avail for you, but obviously had no luck. I don't know what's become of you, or where you've gone, or if you're even still alive. The people around me either treat me with varying degrees of pity or disrespect, while some seem to have forgotten I ever wore a crown at all. I've fallen so low since our fleeting days in the castle that life has taken it's toll on me. Even without the powers of the thrown I once held, I would be happy just to have you by my side again. As a madman wearing a crown, you brought the smile to my face when I would otherwise yearn for nothing but the death of those around me. Yet now, without you at my side, I have nothing. I feel nothing. I am empty, and have no reason to continue. If by some cruel twist of fate this letter finds you, I apologize for my final act and beg of your forgiveness.
In final farewell, Your Beloved Kaistern
P.S. Long live the Mad King
Kaistern returned his tattered quill to the nearly dry ink well that sat at the corner of the old crickety desk. A solemn expression covered his face as he looked the ragged piece of parchment over, letting the ink dry for a few moments before starting to neatly fold it into a paper airplane, making every crease sharp and precise, hoping to make sure it would fly as far over the city as possible before apathetically tossing it out his window. As he watched his last farewell get carried by the winds out over the city, thoughts of Ophelia's smile and their happy days spent together filled his mind as he closed his eyes one last time. His final thoughts as a sane man.
