Katalina looked vaguely amused. "He eats everything," she replied. "I'm sure you could make more." Flipping over in the water again, she watched Lucian ride the boat towards shore with a crooked little grin.

"I could if 1) I wasn't broke, and 2) if my house wasn't burning down this moment...which it is. The towns people decided that they had enough of me. Pay what I "owe" or else. So I left." He watched the boat come in. "I am not exactly welcome here, am I." Joe said without turning his head.

Lucian rode the boat all the way in. Once it was on land, he jumped out of it and looked over his shoulder at the new human. His eyes slightly wide and he stopped chewing. ‘How many humans am I going to meet today?’ He raised an eyebrow at him, challenging him to try to get his cookies back. He began to chew once again, then reached into his pouch and popped open a soda.

Joe's jaw dropped. "Y-y-y-you took a coke too?!?! ugh...what a pain...do you mind handing me a cookie? I kinda made those myself and I can't make them again for quite a while. I would like a taste of one before you hound them all..." He stopped. "Wait...let me guess, you're not human, are you?"

Joshua tried to smother his laughter at Lucian's antics. "Lucian, at least share if your going to steal." This was the final straw. He started laughing. After a minute of this, he began to get himself under control again. He left it to Lucian to explain what he was. "Lucian likes food. A lot." Joshua told Joey, a smile still on his face.

Joe stifled a groan with a laugh, another rarity. "He is..quite energetic, isn't he?" Joe shook his head, a smile on his face. "I don't think I have ever met anyone with more energy than him."

Looking at Joey, Katalina said quietly, "Until they prove themselves unworthy, everyone is welcome here." Turning from Joey, Katalina lifted a brow at Joshua. With a little shrug and amused eyes, she called, "Lucian, let the poor boy have some of his cookies. After all Joshua fed you, you can't possibly be hungry." Looking back at Joshua, she said in an undertone, "I think we may have to bribe him with something shiny."

"Something shiny? I have something...as long as I get it back. It should be on the boat, though." Joe walked over and climbed onto the boat. He started to search for something.

Too far from Joey now to warn him vocally, Katalina resorted to telepathy once again. You won't get it back, her voice seemed to whisper in his ear. That's why I called it bribery. He keeps it. When she shut off the link, the world seemed to be fading in and out, the last warning signal. She'd overdone it. Now she had to rest. With a sigh, she shut her eyes and sank.

Joe stopped, wondering what that voice was. He looked over to Katalina and saw her sinking. "Katalina!! You ok?" He jumped off the boat and into the water.

Katalina could vaguely hear voices, but didn't much care. She was floating in quiet darkness, restoring herself, and the last thing she needed was to be woken unnecessarily. It wasn't like she couldn't breathe underwater. In a far-off way, she thought that maybe she should have warned her companions first. But oh, well. Perhaps Lucian would know what was happening to her, and could calm the humans. She'd awaken soon enough, if not.

"Katalina?" Joshua's voice was laden with worry. She'd just collapsed. He wondered if she'd overexherted herself carrying Joey. 'But she seemed fine....' With a flash, he recalled what she'd said about her telepathic abilities. That they wore her out. 'And she's been using them all day to talk to Lucian and me.' He called mentally to the dragon. 'Is this normal? Part of the exhaustion she mentioned?' Feeling guilty, Joshua made his way over to where the mermaid had sunk. He watched her floating in the water. "I think we should leave her." He told Joey. "As long as nothing hits her, she should be fine. Katalina is a mermaid." He spoke, trying to reassure himself as well as Joey.

Joe looked up and stopped, worry written on his face. "I...I don't know...I somehow feel responsible for this. When I was on the boat, I heard her voice...and...and then she collapsed..." He was sick with worry. Something came to him. "Hey, how come I heard her voice in my head?"

"I think that's why she collapsed." Joshua spoke quietly, not sure how his voice would carry to the sleeping mermaid. "She overextended her telepathic abilities." He sighed. "She'd been using them all day, to keep contact with Lucian and myself during our shore trip." Shaking his head, he told Joey. "It's not your fault. Not at all."

He sighed, glad that it wasn't something he caused, but hoping for her to be alright. He then remembered something. "Ah, I forgot." He walked back onto the boat and started searching. "Where is it...where is it..."
