"Thanks Zar." Akila pet him twice before collecting the papers and handed them to Markus, "They aren't the actual documents. I couldn't take them, or he would get suspicious...so I copied them."

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Markus smiled slightly. "Good idea." He told her, taking the documents. He began reading them over, murmuring the odd phrase to himself in surprise. The tiger that should be....isn't....

"What do you think it means?" Akila asked quietly, beginning to think they only saw one piece of the puzzle.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Markus glanced up at Akila, startled. He'd almost forgotten she was there. "Hmm? Oh." He glanced back down at the papers with a frown. "I'm not sure. I feel like I'm trying to see the picture of a puzzle while pieces are still missing." He was quiet for a minute, then added. "If I didn't know better, I'd almost think Clorogne was the king's brother. Not the king himself. It would certainly explain things. And if they're twins, who would notice? But the question is - Does the king have a brother?" He seemed to just be thinking aloud now. At some point while he'd been talking, Markus had risen and begun pacing. The tiger that should be....isn't....

"And any of his birth records would have been in the castle." which was coincidently burnt down.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Markus' black wings began fluttering in annoyance. "True. Grr. We need someone who would actually really remember when the king was born and what happened then. Aleera's old enough, but she already told me she was in a neighboring country until about five years ago so that's no help." He grumbled curses under his breath as he paced. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Akila was silent for what seemed like a very long time, when she suddenly felt the need to smack herself in the forehead, "Suzie!" How could she have forgotten!?

Markus paused in his pacing, looking at Akila. "Suzie......?" He asked, indicating for her to explain.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Markus brightened. "Great! We'll have to check into that. I don't think she'd trust me though, so I need you or Aleera to come with me. Which means we can't leave right away." He added, slightly disappointed. He hated having loose ends. "Next time you get a good break away from Clorogne, send Zar for me and I'll come get you." He reached out to stroke the bird who pecked his finger. "Ow!" He stuck his finger in his mouth, glaring at the bird. "See if I give you a treat." He muttered to the bird. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Akila patted Zar's beak, "Hey! Be nice." she pet him once, before looking back to Markus, "Yeah, okay." She nodded that she understood, and finally stood up on her own.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Markus chuckled lightly, clearly already over it. "Nah, it's fine. I should have known better really. They'll listen to me most of the time, because I'm a cousin to them. But if their proper master or mistress is around, they'll listen to no one else. Tolerate no one else really." He glanced around the rooftop then back to Akila. "Yeah. Let's get you back before Aleera skins me for stealing you. Wanna walk back or fly?" He asked, opening his arms to her. "No tricks this time, I promise." He told her, grinning. The tiger that should be....isn't....

"If it's no tricks...I'll fly with you." Akila smiled a little nervously and stepped towards him again.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Markus smiled softly, gathering up Akila carefully this time. Zar took off, flying around them. "No tricks." He told her softly. "I promise. And don't I always keep my promises?" He jumped into the air, rising. He didn't go as high as before and flew carefully. Now Akila could appreciate the lure of flying. It was a peaceful flight, now that Markus was behaving himself. The tiger that should be....isn't....

"Always." Akila nodded, and held onto him, but this time, instead of a death grip, it was soft and feathery. She watched below them as if she were in a daze. Maybe she was, it's hard to tell sometimes with her. Her head always in the clouds.
