{That was simply awesome. I don't know whether or not to have her find it, or to have one of her co-founders find it and deliver it to her.
I also don't know whether or not to have Ophelia flee to a different city or to have stayed in the one near the castle. What do you suggest...?}

((Well, if she's planning an eventual re-take over of the castle, she probably doesn't want to be too far. Possibly a base situated on the outskirts of town, with smaller divisions in other nearby cities. And yeah, I'd say maybe one of her co-founders find it and deliver it.))

The slums would have made a poor hideaway for one as grandly dressed and politely behaved as Ophelia. As a human, that would also have been the first place any would be killers would search for her. So instead, she had been laying low in the opposite side of the city - protected by defectors from the previous guard and other allies she'd made in her short reign as queen. Unlike Kaistern, she did not just let herself fall into poverty and disgrace. No, Ophelia spent every waking moment plotting her inevitable revenge against those that usurped the throne. She was hard at work in forming a mercenary guild, a career highly respected by the highly violent demonic people - assuming it was done well of course.
One of her guild co-founders and previous bodyguards roamed the slums as he did the other sections of the city, trying to get a better feeling for the situation of each social class and how Ophelia might best integrate herself within the city. Recruiting from the slums might be cheap, but it was also highly unlikely that they would find any truly talented fighters amongst the weak and poor. Something unusual caught his eye, though. An oddy folded parchment of paper laying within the edge of a dark alleyway. He picked it up, carefully unfolding it to see exactly what the letter said. It wasn't long before he rushed off, going on to deliver it to its intended recipient as soon as possible.
{Sorry for the blah post.}

((No worries. Sometimes I have this horrible habit of visualizing and writing things as one would an anime or manga. Which doesn't exactly work all the time for a cooperative writing style as an rp. ^_^;; ))
Kaistern, the gentle demon and fallen king, was no more. He'd retreated into his mind and let his other half have the freedom he so desired. As they days passed and his sorrow and frustration grew stronger, his other half recovered and grew stronger. The weakling couldn't take it anymore, and while he wasn't left with much of anything now, freedom was still freedom. If the weak side didn't have the strength to climb back to the top and kill those that wronged him, then he'd do it himself. He took to the streets, a tattered cloak around his shoulders, his mane an unkept mess, and a furious scowl crossing his face as he wandered the slums while starting to plot a revenge scheme of his own.

{Ditto. I just get an image in my head and I end up puking it out on the keyboard without much organization or revision. That probably shows a lot in my posts. >.<}
As time went by, a new Mercenary's Guild was eventually established - a base/training ground established in the finer half of the city. It offered decent pay to those who applied for membership and reasonable prices for hiring - said prices depending on what kind of skill you need for any given job.
Despite the competence adveretised, though, it kept a most unusual symbol and was ran by an unknown figure only known as the Dulcinea. Still, as time went on, it was gradually becoming more and more renowned for its members' skill, might, and success rate. It wasn't long until there were posters all over the city - even within the slums - adveretising the newest Mercenary Guild for both business and recruitment.

"So how much does membership go for in this place?" Kaistern looked as much like a gruff jerkass hero as he could get. He was dirty, ragged looking, and looked mean. He still had his old scars across his face, and one of his horns had been broken halfway down during the attack on the castle, and the other had a hairline crack in it.

"Depends on how skilled you prove to be." the recruiter replied, promptly listing off the pay rewards for each skill level afterwards. Needless to say, it was nothing to scoff at. Especially not for some dirt-poor slummy like Kaistern currently appeared to be.

"Save the spiel; just give me the job with the biggest prize." Kaistern said cutting the recruiter off early on. "I don't have time to waste on small fry missions like saving a cat from a tree."

The recruiter rolled his eyes, motioning over to a bulletin board where various jobs were posted for Dulcinea's Mercenaries to take. "Take whatever suits your fancy. If you finish your first job well, you're in. If not, you're probably too ******** dead for us to care anyway. You don't get payed directly by the client, but through me or a missive from the Guild Mistress."

((For some reason I keep thinking of the Dolorosa whenever I see Dulcinea. xD ))
Kaistern stalked over to the board, his claws twitching for the tearing of flesh as he looked over the different jobs. As soon as he saw a big one worthy of a warm up (anything too big and revenge just wouldn't be fun) he rushed out to go take care of it. He needed power, he needed respect, and this guild of lowlifes seemed to be the fastest way to get what he wanted. Once he was at the top he'd set his sights on the castle.

{It's kind of hard not to, isn't it? Though to be honest, it's more a joke on the Dulcinea Effect on TVtropes than anything.}
The recruiter wrote to one of the guild administrators regarding the potential new recruit, detailing his behavior and familiar appearance. Among all the guild members, this recruiter was one of the few given a description for Dulcinea's person of interest, and would try to keep a close eye on him as instructed. At least, he would until the slummie ended up working under one of the guild's work administrators.

Two days later Kaistern came back spattered with blood and dragging a bit of a large sack behind him. "Just point me to where I exchange trophies for money." In a fantasy world like this, of course not all species were completely tame. Big wandering brutes between cities and regions was not at all common.

Kaistern was immediately directed to the turn-in desk, where he would be given both his well earned pay and his personal guild insignia for completing his initiation job. He would, of course, be explicitly told that the insignia needed to be shown if he wished to get payed for future jobs. Even if the entire guild knew your face, there was no guarantee that it was really you hiding underneath your skin. (The insignia was no guarantee either, but it helped to keep out pretenders and to weed out fakes)

"So any other perks that come with the jobs? Or am I going to be stuck slumming it from here on out?" Kaistern asked as he wiped some of the blood from his face with his thumb before licking it off.

"As a guild member, you are allowed free lodging within the guilds' dormitories unless you break one of the guild rules. Since there aren't that many, that shouldn't be a problem." He then handed Kaistern a map of the premises. "If you need armor, weapons, or any other supplies, you can get them from the guild quartermaster at a decent price."
