Hinburath was determined not to let a bronze, brown, blue, or green get the chance to save him. He flamed each piece of thread perfectly as he kept a close watch out. He was watching so closely that he noticed another dragon of his wing about to be thrown into Thread. Look out! The brown made a graceful twist through the air that brought his open maw and flame to bear upon the Thread. He released a blast that smote it to ash.

Show off, his rider mocked him teasingly. Hardly Ly'burmine. Just giving them a good bit of gossip for when this is over. He hummed proud of himself.

Round 2: Day 2 Rolls

You are able to twist and accurately flame down the clump they were going to fly into, saving them from Threadscore! Quote a Wingmate that took Threadfall Damage and nullify it! You saved them from the pain! +1 Flame Length
3. 12- You try to flame down some Thread, but your flame comes up short. Whoops! Hopefully your Wingleader didn't see that. Nothing to be done about it now except eat some more firestone, and try to catch the next clump!

I hate to say 'I told you so,' but...

M'yk received no verbal response, only the mental equivalent of an ice-cold stare.

The brown was feeling mighty pleased with himself after his spectacular saves. He was already plotting how to start some rumors about himself. Hinburath got so caught up, that he startled at his rider's mental command and flamed way too early for a patch of Thread. Sorry, he tried to not let his rider realize his distraction had caused him to miss again.

Ashlyn and Gyafrith will be flying first wave

The pair kept their attention on the job as best they could, though they did hear a roar from who they knew was Zetigeth. Neither of them was surprised, not when one of their family had been hurt. All the more reason to concentrate, so they could do all they could to keep others safe too. Though, while they weren't looking, a small strand of Thread went unnoticed. That was until it hit Gyafrith's wing and he let out a small roar of pain. He quickly popped Between, to take care of it, then came back out, flaming down all that was in their path.

We have dealt with worse than that,Gyafrith thought to his rider.

Yeah, like that Thread we popped into a bit ago. I will make sure we get something for your wing too, when we land though, she replied.

Round 2, Part 1 (Mid Alt)
+10HP from Weyrleader speech
1) 2. As you're flaming down some Thread, a gust of wind suddenly pushes the remaining cloud back at you and your dragon. You've no choice but to blink Between to avoid it, and appear higher up, missing the clump. The rest of the thread falls down towards the lower altitude. [+1 Between Accuracy]

2) 20. You appear from Between and find the space you were hoping would be clear now has a large sheet of Thread being guested towards it. You've only a moment to decide where to go, and both you and your dragon pick a spot and hop Between in an attempt to avoid Thread. Roll a D4 and take whatever damage or XP you're given!
4- You not only manage to blink out of danger, but you blink back again, flame half of the clump, and blink away again only to appear a safe distance away. It's an impressive display of thread fighting power! Good job! Word will be going around the lower caverns tonight! +2 Extra Between Accuracy

3) 3. Flaming down Thread, you find yourself getting blown right into the cloud of ash! It stings and burns, but you're pretty sure no Thread was alive in the cloud. [If a green, or blue take Moderate Damage -5HP but gain +2 Pain Resistance.]

1- 1: You critically fail! You either appear between directly in the clump of Thread and take Major Damage for -8 HP =or= you could wind up getting lost Between, and die, having not properly visualized where to jump. Death -- optional. Taking the damage

5) 16. The wind is fierce and fighting you. Greens, and blues will struggle against it, trying valiantly to keep in formation! [+1 Stamina] Browns and Bronzes can feel the strain, but it's nothing they can't seem to handle. [+3 Stamina]

Round 2, Part 2 (mid alt)

Demanthra and Monath will be flying first wave

It seemed that the green pair was getting a moment, with no Thread currently in sight for them to go after. It was probably for the best, it gave them a chance to breathe and regather themselves. Demanthra's eyes drifted above them, to where the Wings were busy fighting. What would it be like once they graduated and could be among them. It meant they could do more, but also would lead to more damage as well. What had happened to her mother was proof of that and the pair had more experience than she did with Monath.

We will do all we can to make them proud, Mine. It is a nice thought to want to do more though, keep Pern safe,Monath thought.

It is, yes. For now, we better get our minds on the here and now, since we are helping down here as well, she thought back.

Round 2, Part 1 (Weyrling Wing)
+10 for Weyrleader speech (only needed 2 to get back up to 14, minus three was nullified by Weyrlingmaster)

3) 8. There's a patch of Thread that has your name on it. You dive towards it, and aim to flame it down. Unfortunately, your dragon and you weren't paying any mind to the direction the wind was blowing! If white, green, or blue, you are successfully able to weave out of the way. +2 General Agility If this is your third time or more rolling this as a white, green, or blue, you run out of luck and fly right into the ash cloud and remaining Thread. Moderate Damage: -7 HP If brown, bronze, or gold you're not able to get out of the way. Not only do you hit the remains of Thread, but the burning ash, and char. Ouch! Moderate Damage: -7 HP First time rolled, so no damage

4) 11. Oh crap. Your dragon sees a sliver of Thread and hastily flies to catch it. Unfortunately, their aim is off, and you watch in despair as the silver tangles drifts past, only to tangle with your dragons outstretched wing. Fardles. Minor Damage: - 2 HP

Round 2, Part 2 (Weyrling Wing)
1) 5. You've got a moment to focus and breathe. You glance up at the higher wings, considering what it might be like when you get tapped into an actual fighting Wing. More action, sure, but a lot more opportunity for harm. Mph. No. Focus. Right now, you have to focus!

Ash'ilMine, I would like some more firestone please,Iptoneth requested to his rider. He was raring to go, to take out more of the silvery threat. And since they had enough firestone this time, with no bag issues, he wanted some stone.

More firestone coming, old friend,Ash'il assured. He reached into his bag, getting a few pieces it. It felt good not having to worry about it being empty like when they were in the low altitude. He tossed them to his dragon, waiting for him to finish. Unfortunately, he winced when he felt a pain in his tongue again, knowing it came from Iptoneth.

Ummm...Mine...the bronze began ruefully.

Yeah, I feel the pain, thanks. Here you were making fun of the bags of firestone, this is the second time you bit your tongue. You know, it isn't firestone, right?Ash'il asked.

Of course I do, give me some credit. I was just a little eager, that's all,the dragon responded.

Round 2, Part 1 (High Alt)
+10 from Weyrleader speech (only need three of it to get back up to 42)
1) 20. Your dragon asks for a few more pieces of firestone to chew. Unfortunately, they wind up chomping down on their tongue instead of their stone! This is going to distract your dragon for the next two rolls. [Tongue Bitten Effect! Your dragon is distracted by pain. No XP will be earned for the next 2 rolls. Any successes will be nullified. Should you roll a prompt with the possibility of damage, take the max damage allotted for your size/color automatically but it will also end the Tongue Bitten Effect immediately.]

2) 17. As you fly, you find that you're getting into a heavier patch of Thread ahead. You've got a bad feeling about this.... You warn one of your wingmates to let a patch go! Thankfully, they listen, and sure enough, the wind changes! It would have blown the pair right into the patch. As it stands, the wind blows the Thread back, and your wingmate are able to flame it down without injury. [+2 Instinct] Negated by tongue bite

3) 6. As you're flying, the wind picks up again, trying to knock you out of formation

-If 36'-46', you're able to fight the wind with relative ease. Unfortunately, the nearby Threadfall gets blown into your side and haunches -- and you were too big to move out of the way. Ouch! Moderate Damage -8 HP

4) 19. Ouch! You had successfully flamed Thread but the gust push the ash back into you as you fly! The hot ash cloud burns as you fly through it, but you're made of tougher stuff than that! The focus is Thread, not pain! [+2 Pain Resilience]

5) 5. The air is thick with Thread. It's at its heaviest up here, and you are literally surrounded by silver tendrils. You roar defiance before spitting forth a great flame, scorching the deadly threads before you with ease. Flame Length +1

Round 2, Part 2 (High Alt)
Ashlyn and Gyafrith will be flying first wave

Gyafrith was working on flaming down any Thread that they encountered. He had just managed to torch a patch of it, when he felt the wind licking at them again. Before he knew it, he was being blown into the fresh ash cloud and a cry of pain came from both him and his rider. When they managed to get out of it, the blue was worried about his rider, knowing the burn was not doing well for her.

It might be best to head down to the healers, to help our wounds. Let A'dras know and Papa,Ashlyn thought. It seemed rider and dragon were of one mind on the need to get down there. Neither of them wanted to take any chances, no matter how close they were to the end of their shift. They had heard what had happened to Aly and Tarmath, they didn't want to be joining them that way.

On it, Mine. Gareth, Mine and I need to head to the healers. We have some wounds that concern us. We shall try to return before the end of the first wave, but if not, we will see you down there. Zetigeth, can you pass on to your's the same,he spoke to his rider first, then to the two other dragons. Once the message was passed on, he blinked into between and back to the Weyr.

Ooo, more Thread for me to get. That one is sooo mine,Monath declared, as she weaved over to a piece she saw.

My Moon, I appreciate your excitement, but easy. Would prefer not to fall off you,Demanthra thought, feeling herself being slammed into her riding straps. She winced lightly, glad that they had held so well, so she didn't slide off with that move. She was glad that V'mel was hard on them, making sure they were always prepared for anything. As Monath calmed down, she could feel a looseness in her straps. So she reached over and tightened them, so she wouldn't have any issues with them.

Sorry, Mine, I would never want that to happen, she whimpered softly in her mind. Demanthra filled her with love, letting her know she wasn't mad.

They stop you from falling of your dragon, and you're grateful that V'mel had you spend all that time making them! Unfortunately, once your dragon straightens out, you realize they might be a little loose. Whoops. Better tighten those up! If this is your 5th time rolling this you feel the leather actually tear on an important support strap! Oh no! You can't fight Thread like this!! You notify V'mel and immediately return to the Weyr to get your spare straps. You know you're trouble.... what an amateur mistake! Lose Your Remaining Round Rolls! Your weyrling is out for the rest of this Round as they take care of a strap emergency. They can come back when the next Round is declared. First time for them, thankfully.

Look at all this thread up here, it is so thick. No matter where we turn, there it is. No wonder Mom had such trouble up here,Ash'il thought to his bronze. He was trying to keep his partner's mind on something other than the pain in his tongue. He gave him a few firestones, to help, making sure he didn't bite his tongue again.

Well, we will show these silver tendrils who the boss is. They mess with our family, they mess with us,Iptoneth replied, roaring to match his words. After chewing the stone this time, he sent fire flying at the Thread all around him with no problems at all.

Ashlyn and Gyafrith will be flying first wave

(at healers)

Ashlyn and Gyafrith made it back to the Weyr, getting a few of the healers to start looking over their wounds. Ashlyn winced in pain as they began working on her back, feeling them doing all they could with the redwort. Gyafrith was getting similar treatment, but as usual, the blue was more worried about his rider.

Please make sure she isn't in too much pain. We got some thread burns and ash burns. We want to at least get to help our Wing a little more, but her health is more important right now,Gyafrith thought firmly.

I will be alright, dear heart, but thank you for the concern, she assured him. She knew the healers were doing their best, having been an apprentice before her blue had picked her.

1) 18. Thread falls, and a sneaky strand winds up chewing on your wingsail. You pop Between to ease the pain, and come out flaming. It hurts, but it's small tubers compared to what it could have been! +1 Pain Resilience]

2) 3. Flaming down Thread, you find yourself getting blown right into the cloud of ash! It stings and burns, but you're pretty sure no Thread was alive in the cloud. [If a green, or blue take Moderate Damage -5HP but gain +2 Pain Resistance.] [If a brown or bronze, take Minor Damage -2 Damage but gain +1 Pain Resistance.]

3) (at healers) 6. 5-7. The healer looks at your wound and starts trying to patch you up. They're not being particularly gentle on you, but you can tell they're quite invested in making sure your wound (or your dragons) heals right! Unfortunately, that's going to take some time. Demanthra and Monath will be flying first wave

Monath, there is some thread ahead of us!Demanthra alerted her dragon, seeing it was way too close.

No worries, I will do everything I can to avoid it. I am not letting it touch you,Monath assured her rider. She made a beautiful twist in the air to get out of the way of the incoming Thread. Unfortunately, a honk of pain issues forth from her as she rights herself.

Oh Monath, you poor thing! That feels painful, we should head down to the healers. Your wings have taken a lot of abuse, I don't want to chance making them worse,Demanthra thought to the green. She knew the other wanted to take care of more Thread, but they couldn't chance it.

Okay Mine, I won't worry you. Aviroth, Mine and I need to head down to the healers. Mine doesn't know how long it will take, so if we don't get back before our turn is over, we will greet you when you and your's comes down safely,Monath spoke to Demanthra, then to the brown dragon belonging to Master V'mel. Once that was done, they blinked out of sight, back to the Weyr.

(will be at healers next post)

Round 2, Part 1 (Weyrling Wing)
+10 for Weyrleader speech (only needed 2 to get back up to 14, minus three was nullified by Weyrlingmaster)
1) 12. You've been fighting for some time now, but your dragon seems to be feeling fine. This is what they were meant to be doing -- flying, and taking down The Enemy! Tired, who's tired? Certainly not them! +1 General Stamina

2) 13. Are you feeling lucky? Well you should! Free reply! Respond to this post with any action pertaining to Threadfall, and gain a little luck. [+1 Luck]

2) 2. As your dragon weaves to catch Thread, you're thrown hard against your riding straps.

3) 14. Your dragon tries to pull off a rather elegant maneuver to avoid a tangle of Thread, but banks too sharply. There's a sharp pain as something pulls... Ouch! Moderate Damage: -3 HP

Incoming thread, Mine. I am going to jump between to see if we can avoid it,Iptoneth announced to his rider. A second later, the pair had disappeared between. Without realizing the wind had changed, they popped back into a sheet of Thread.

Ahh!came Ash'il's cry of pain, feeling the Thread wrap around them. Iptoneth disappeared back into between, to freeze any that clung to them. 1...2...3...4...and then they were back, the Thread frozen.

As fun as that was, let's not do that again,Iptoneth suggested in a pained voice, but tried to lighten the mood. Hopefully they could keep it together for the rest of this fight. He didn't want to have to tell Ariath's rider his got hurt badly..not if he could help it.

Ashlyn and Gyafrith will be flying first wave

(at healers)
The blue pair remained patient, wondering if they would be able to do anymore fighting today. As if in answer to their question, the healers finished up putting salve and numbweed on their wounds, before patching them up. They had been very effective and had now given them the clearance to rejoin their wing. So they quickly put their gear back on, Ashlyn checking all of her straps. Then climbing back on her trusted blue, they blinked back up to where their wing was.
